Please, I really need some serious help... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Ok, here's my story: I dropped my phone in my toilet (yes it was clean). I immediately pulled it out and pulled the battery. I dried it over a seven day period with the rice in a bag method in a warm window. After I was completely sure that it was dry, I inserted the battery and proceeded to try and start my phone. It started up and I thought I was in the clear! Not quite... When it starts up, it boots to the normal AT&T screen and then proceeds directly to the Green Windows 6.0 screen. At that point it chimes (dead battery chime) and then dies.
I've tried flashing roms and radios to no avail. It will flash a new rom but, when I start it up, it does the same thing, goes to the Green Windows 6.0 or 6.1 screen, depending on the rom, chimes and then dies again.
Right now I'm running the stock AT&T rom with the stock radio (1.27.14.09). I can get into Bootloader mode (RGB screen) and I can do hard resets. Funny thing is, I can get into bootloader without using the soft reset button on the bottom. All I do is press the camera+power buttons at the same time and it goes into BL mode.
My BL screen has:
KAIS1*0
SPL-3.56.HARD (No, Not original)
CPLD-8
My Startup screen (first AT&T splash logo) shows:
R 1.27.14.09
G 22.45.88.07H
D 1.62.00.00
I can connect it to my pc via usb and the pc will recognize it as a CE storage device and loads the drivers for it but ActiveSync doesn't recognize it nor does Windows Mobile Center in Vista. All this is done in BL screen. My PC also recognizes it if it's turned on at the AT&T screen but does not have enough time to load ActiveSync before the phone dies. I can also connect it to the wall usb charger and the Amber LED light that states that the phone is charging comes on but NEVER goes green no matter how long I leave the phone plugged in. Same with the USB port on my PC. It never goes green.
I also ordered a new battery from AT&T to see if maybe that was the problem but that doesn't do anything either. So that ruled out the dead battery idea. I also tried the battery from my Wife's Tilt and it does the same thing.
Please, PLEASE help me! I am at a loss here and don't know what to do anymore. I even tried MTTY 1.16 and 1.46 and they do nothing but reboot my phone with CMD> task 8. It won't even format my phone with "task 28". It goes through the motions on the MTTY screen on the PC but it does nothing to the phone.
Again, please help me out here. I am willing to try anything just get some life back into my phone! Any suggestions are welcome and I hope that some of the wiser board members can hear my plea and help a guy out!
Thank you in advance!
P.S. I can't return the phone to AT&T due to the water sensor behind the battery being tripped. Says "VOID" in nice fuzzy pink letters...

in my eyes you don´t have a software problem but one with your hardware. so it´s useless to flash other roms. when you get a hardreset without pressing the reset button this button seems to be switched. put off the cover and clean the contacts in order to repait your device.
a manual how to open it you will find here in this forum

Ewww, I was afraid someone would say that... I'm not technically inclined to be able to do that. I WILL break something when trying to open it and that's the last thing I want to do.
I'll see what else I can try though. Thank you for the advice!

youre spl is FU, best thing todo if you cant revert is go here and call out for jockyw2001

Lol i was hoping that maybe jockyw2001 or GSleon would see this thread...

PM jockyw2001 one of them and make them aware of youre trouble. I belive thats okey since they say so in tread. I dont think you are in deep at all.

I guess it won't hurt?

Might anyone else have any insight as to what might be going on or what I can do?

The powering off problem sounds like dirty contacts to me. Have you tried a Qtip/Cotton bud and some specialist contact cleaner (an electronics hobby shop can supply this) on the battery contacts of the phone? It doesn't take much for the connection to be a problem even though they may look clean, the sightest bit of tarnishing can do it. If anything further is needed then if you're not technically adept, either find a friend who is and reward them appropriately for their time or take it to a phone repair shop. It's important for the phones longevity that its properly decontaminated/cleaned as even if it's dried off as described, corrosion can still set in over time and that'll cause problems. Time and/or money spent cleaning it properly now, will likely save you much more on component replacement down the track.

i've got the same problem, except no hardspl installed but can and have reflashed. i dont know if this phone went into water, i got it from someone.

using "info 8" command on MTTY, i turned up this result:

IPL and SPL = brick

Well today I tried to just do the IPL and SPL flash from the tmobile rom. Apparently, thats a bad thing. Thank god for Warranty. Bricked it almost instantly. That will be the last time I try that.
Nope -- sorry. Warranty won't cover bricking/flashing your phone with anything other than an official ROM.
Your best bet is to try to get it back into bootloader and reflash. If that can't be done, you've acquired a really expensive paperweight.

Define "brick". You aren't saying what it does or doesn't do (ie: what exactly happened to make you say its bricked). You also haven't said if its CID unlocked (I assume it is since your sig seems to indicate you were running WM6). You also aren't saying if this is a G3 or G4 device (the IPL/SPL you list in your sig would indicate G3, but you have to be sure of that).
Try turning the phone off (if it still powers on and off. Or remove the battery if you can't get it to turn off, then put the battery back in once its off). Then plug in the USB cable, press and hold the camera button, then press the power button to turn it on (with the camera button still pressed). If you get the rainbow screen with the USB indicator in the lower left, you can then try using that to downgrade to a 2.x ROM (T-Mobile 2.26 shipping one is good) or all the way back down to the Button 1.05 ROM.
Provide more details and one of the gurus may be able to assist. And details of exactly what you did to get to the point you are at would be very helpful too (either to assist you, or to help others learn not to do whatever it is that you did if it is truly "bricked").
It will not turn on. It is a hardware issue. And according to HTC within the warranty, the only issue they will not cover is any physical damage caused to phone. I had it boot to os then it just turned off. Never to turn back on again.
Basically I extracted the IPL/SPL from the TMobile 2.26 os. Tried just flashing those but I dont think i set them correctly in the nk file. As for power, It gets none. So i cant even get it to turn on.
Its a G3 fully unlocked. Ive been working on writing my own version of WM6. I might wait now after this little deal.
Well, after getting my replacement today, I tried to power it up and it wouldnt. Took the new phone and battery to Service center. Apparently what happened is that the battery shorted out and killed the phone. Battery was covered under accessories warranty. So hopefully tomorrow i will be up and running.

Kaiser 4 Colours of Death Again - HELP!

I've just got my phone repaired 2 days ago due to same problem and its dead again. It's showing me 4 colours bars, unable to boot or switch off. Please see attached photo.
Technician Notes on the Service Repair Job Card says " Reconnected Flexes, Loaded New Software and Passed all tests."
Whatever Flexes means? Hardware circuit board problem? Anybody knows whats that?
Its going to be another 2-3 weeks wait for Three Sydney to repair it....sigh....
I'm unable to find similar reported problem online. Anyone, please advice. It died when it shows nothing on the screen with blinking green light. I've not done any flashing or mod of any kind, its a 4 month old phone.
the flexes are what connects the screen/other hardware on the sliding face to the main board on the part that does not slide. Seems like your kaiser is putting itsself into bootloader for some reason. if you have knowledge of mtty maybe running some mtty commands would tell us more of why it seems to like to erase its on memory lol... there is a whole section in the wiki on mtty and I thread I believe also try contacting POF or OLI they have vast knowledge about the works of the kaiser
Thanks for the tips austinsnyc, after leaving it on with the bootloader screen for the whole night until it drain the batt completely, I was able to boot up again while charging.
I'm still interested to know why would it suddenly just go to bootloader screen, i'll read up on mtty.
Cheers,
JK
lol, you might have been fine if you just did a soft reset. but still that doesnt solve the issue of why it went into bootloader in the first place
Thanks for reminding about the soft reset, I tried that when it happen for the very first time I had this problem. That didn't help either and I had to send in for repair.
Whats the purpose of the bootloader anyway? In what situation would it appear normally?
you can manually place your device into bootloader by holding the camera button and then reset. a device going into bootloader out of the blue is usually never a good thing........unless maybe there was a situation where the camera button was somehow held down while your device restarted.

HELP! Mangled USB port, Boots to Bootloader, and can't reflash using SD

WTF... I had one of our VP's bring me his Tilt and the thing is just booting to the bootloader screen and says Serial at the bottom.
KAIS1*0 MFG
SPL-1.0.OliPof
CPLD-8
But that's not all... When I plug in a USB cable it changes the 'Serial' to 'USB'. However, the USB plug on the bottom of the phone is mangled up with bent pins, so I'm not even sure it's making proper contact. I've tried straightening them out the best I can, but they still look slightly bent to me. Anyway, here's what I've tried.
1. If I reboot the phone without the USB cable it goes straight into bootloader mode (I see a quick "missing image file" message or something like that then the red/grn/blue screen).
2. If I reboot the phone WITH the USB cable connected it boots up fine into Dutty's ROM, but it never makes an ActiveSync connection. Like the PC doesn't see it.
3. I copied a new ROM (named it KAISIMG.nbh) to the SD card and followed the instructions posted by vip_snoopy. But when it goes into the bootloader, it won't load the new ROM (nothing happens at all).
4. I downloaded MMTY, but when I launch that application, it doesn't give me the USB option even though the phone is connected and I see USB at the bottom of the bootloader screen. Arrrgh!!!
This sux! Trust me, I've searched this forum, Googled and found some posts related to this, but nothing has worked and I can't find a solution. With the mangled USB connector and the phone not letting me load a new ROM via the SD card, it seems I'm stuck. I'd like to get this phone back to the point where I can at least attempt a warranty return. Either that, or fry it out so they can't see the Oli SPF or ROM installed. At least then I can tell them the motherboard died or the device is fried or something...
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'll rip this thing apart and use the screen, keyboard, etc. for spare parts. Luckily this is a work phone so it's nothing out of my pocket. Although, it sux b/c I had to give my Tilt to the VP and now I'm temporarily using my old Treo 700w (yuck!) until I can get a replacement.
Thanks!
same proble with 2 different TILTs
both device are AT&T TILT, no problem with miniUSB connector.
Both devices are with original ROM
R 1.27.12.11
G 22.45.88.07H
D 1.57.00.00
when turning on bootloader, the serial appears, and while connecting the cable it turns to "USB" but no sync or USB recognition.
I unistalled and installed the activesync 4.5 and have no proble syncing other devices. (no driver problems)
did anyone heard about this problem?
many thanks!
I have a friend that got a Tilt and within a couple of days the pins inside the mini usb were messed up. He had to have it exchanged. Also, somewhere around here there is a thread because this is a known issue. I think your VP used a car charger or something.

must have been me....
@egypt 123: But what you describe is exactly what happened to my tilt. I did manage to reflash the thing from the SD card tho before a warranty exchange took place.
It took me serveral tries to get it to flash from SD. so I thinking is must be either a *****y card or you didnt follow instructions exactly. My was the later.
Good Luck

Dropped my Tilt in a pitcher of beer. Suggestions needed.

Ok. As I stated, I dropped my AT&T Tilt in a pitcher of beer. I dried it out and it went to bootloader mode. I was able to reinstall the stock rom from the HTC website, and all functions worked for two days, then it went back to bootloader mode again. Now I can't get the rom to install. It starts installing but I keep getting connection errors before it completes. I think the USB port may be screwed up.
Anyway, I know there are threads about rescuing your phone from bootloader mode, and I may or may not continue to mess with it. But what I really wanted to ask is which phone you'd buy to replace your Tilt if you had to buy it out of pocket. I'm not due for an upgrade, so I'll have to pay full price. I really liked Windows Mobile and my favorite programs were Garmin and the three S2 programs.
I got the stock rom to install AGAIN.
We'll see how long it lasts. Still, I need to be looking for another phone. On the AT&T website it says a replacement Tilt would be 400 bucks and a Fuze would be 500, wtf. I paid 99 for this refurb Tilt. Man I hope it stabilizes.

You could always buy a used Tilt from the Marketplace, Since, you know, you seem to drop it in beer a lot.
Typically in my Personal and Professional Experience, Electronics don't survive Swimming very well.
Update
Ok. This is frustrating. I have downloaded the latest HTC Rom twice. Both times I was able to install it, and every function worked perfectly for about twenty-four hours. Then, both times, while downloading my email, it went into bootloader mode. Any suggestions? Do you think another Rom might be more stable. Here is what the page says:
KAIS1*0
SPL-3.56.0000
CPLD-8
It says "Serial" at the bottom, but it changes to "USB" when it's plugged in.

I suspect it has something to do with being dropped in beer......
Did you immediately remove the battery? Did you clean off the beer? Did you let it completely dry before powering it back on?
Perhaps its hungover. Have you tried dropping it into a glass of aspirin?
I found a way to make my phone somewhat live-with-able.
Ok. My phone works exactly like it used to except it gets stuck in bootloader mode periodically. I installed the fixed Hard SPL that is supposed to address this issue but it probably wasn't designed to correct beer damage. lol However, I found something that allows the phone to boot up normally. It's this. It was one of several suggestions in the WIKI, and this way you don't lose all of your programs and stuff. The phone powers up normally if you leave out step three.
1. Connect via MTTY as described above (Type the following commands without quotes).
2. Type the "set 16 0" and press enter. This removes the RUUNBH flag.
*********************LEAVE OUT*************************************
3. Type "task 8" to format the device. Yes you will lose all your data - if this is a problem, leave out this step, but if the problem isn't fixed afterwards, you'll have to add it back in.
*********************LEAVE OUT*************************************
4. Type "task 0" to tell your device to reboot.
5. If the phone didn't reboot, manually reset it now.

5+ for top100 best answers lol
like one of the previous posters said, if you can take the thing apart and let it set and clean all of the surfaces with a contact cleaner, remeber like soda, beer also leaves a sticky residue that takes forever to truly harden.
my 8925 went into a pool after being pushed in and it was shocking me, it sucked but after a new battery and doing this it worked fine again but it took a week to fully remove/dry everything out.
Thanks.
I'm probably not skilled enough to take it apart. But I've let it dry out. I left it on a vent for three days. It works just like before, but it's still getting stuck in bootloader mode occasionally when it's turned off and then back on, despite installing cmonex's 3.56 Hard-2 spl and the most recent AT&T rom from HTC. I can easily use a Mitty "task 0" command to get it to boot up normally, so it's more of an annoyance really. I just have to make it a few more months until my upgrade. I guess the Fuze is still the best thing AT&T has out, right?
Also, I ordered a new non-oem battery off ebay, 1600 mah. In cmonex's patched spl thread, someone claims that bad batteries contribute to phones getting stuck at the bootloader screen. We'll see. It hasn't arrived yet.

Viper's Guide to Water Damage

Viper’s Guide To Water Damaged PDA’s
This guide is to help anyone that has accidently left their phone in their pocket and went swimming,Went to answer a call and it fell in a puddle..etc, etc. I’ve worked for a major telecom company and have run into this situation so many times. Decided after dealing with this issue and reading so many myths, baking, rice…etc that are hit or miss and potentially very dangerous. Here’s a little guide that many people use with success to revitalize their wet cell phones.
Step 1: Immediately take the battery out of the phone and SHAKE any excess water off.
Step 2: Dry your phone first using a towel, wiping up anything that did not get shaken off. Now get a blow dryer on low heat and position it to blow on your phone about a hand, two hands length distance. Do this for about an hour or 2. Your phone should get alittle warm. If for any reason its hot to touch stop now. Let it cool off and increase the distance between the blow dryer and your phone. Also note, any ports that a covered need to be opened and memory cards, sim cards as well.
Step 3: after all visible water is gone or dry, place it in a small container (Tupperware works) slightly bigger than your phone. Now loosely pack your phone with cotton balls in your container. This works better than rice because it will not leave a white residue and it helps protect and keep your phone clean. You will let it sit overnight, at least 24 hours.
Step 4: Check on your phone, some of the cotton balls should be wet or moist. Inspect the phone, rotate it around and really look for any water. If it feels dry as a bone put the battery back in and fire it up. If it didn’t fire up check to make sure the battery is charged. If so then it may need some more time to dry out. DO NOT plug the phone into the wall charger and try to fire it up.
Step 5: If your phone did not fire up after 24hours BE PATIENT! Give it another 2 days then give it a go. It should fire up by now. If it doesn’t at that point use your wall charger. If at that point it doesn’t work, you need to consult some repairs.
Hope this helps

well, this is why I love my tilt: my dad dropped his iphone in the pitcher as well, and lo n' behold > it died instantly

Black Screen Help

OK.. so I am an idiot.. I will admit it right away. I downloaded an HARDSPL from a link on another site. The zip was named RHODIUM but inside the SPL exe's were named raphael. I didnt look at the name, ran the update and it said it completed successfully.... and now the Rhodium has a black screen. I waited for 15 minutues and pulled the battery.. now I can't get the thing to power back on. I have tried the Verizon hard reset, the bootloader key sequence.. nothing works.
If I hold down vol up and vol down and press the power button I get a green LED at the power indicator led but the screen is still black. When I plug it in to the USB cable, I hear the USB failure sound for windows 7 and nothing happens.
Does anyone have an idea how to get out of this??
That sounds really bad. I would consider posting in the HardSPL thread itself. There are some very clever people who may frequent that thread, and may be able to help. I take it you have downloaded the proper Rhodium HardSPL and tried it, despite the USB error sound? Also in Device Manager it may show you what the error is, worth a try.
I don't know if you can flash HardSPL via SD card but that may be one option.
Good luck I suspect you're gonna need it
Sorry to say, but if you can't access the bootloader at all, your device is very likely a brick. It's really difficult to fix a damaged or destroyed SPL by yourself. There were some tools made a few years back to help recover from destroyed SPLs, but AFAIK they aren't compatible with the TP2 or most other modern devices, and you have to be security unlocked (which I can pretty much guarantee you aren't).
IMO the best thing to do would be to take it back to the store and play dumb saying that it "just stopped working", in the hopes that they'll give you a new one, but there are no guarantees it'll work. Otherwise, if you're not into lying to the store, you could try sending it in for repair and paying the large fee of replacing the mainboard on a device with a voided warranty. Best of luck to you either way
