just wondering if anyone suffered same or better still working with same setup
I have tmobile diamond and talktalk as isp
I have def been able to send and recieve email through talktalk but now can't send can only recieve
I have tried another web based pop3 account and also now can't send
can receive all email just not send
any ideas why please
is it tmobile causing problem? have i somehow stuffed some settings?
could i have sent via wireless link to my ISP - if so why wont that even work now?
I have experienced something similar. I am also with T-Mobile.
I tried everything with no luck. In the end, I had to delete the email account and recreate it. All is well since then.
seriously... it cant be that simple..
hmm just tried - was charging phone via usb at the time and it worked...
via hspda it wont work..
disabled hspda connection, and reconnected via usb and it sends again via active sync i guess
again disconnect usb, disable hspda, forcing a gprs connection and.... wont send..
hmmmm
deleted and recreated again whilst not connected via usb and still wont send..

I have been trying to solve this issue again - it re-appeared for me
So, I think you can change the port by adding : and portnumber on the end of the server name eg: smtp.server.com:80
I have tried this with my SMTP server but with no joy.
Can any experts help!?
I think I have to blame T-Mobile for this problem. Is anyone else with T-Mobile? Is your email working? What are your connection settings and email settings?
Thanks...
Well, I have been playing some more with this... I have re-setup my mail again and all is once more well! I have no idea what is going on, but I will see what happens now...
i deleted and re-added the email again today - still no send, but can recieve..
calld t-mobile who advised talktalk is a 'supported' email
they resent the settings, again recieve no send
the guy wanted to talk me through settings but i had to go.. thing is it cant be the account settings as it works perfectly via active synch - i did forget that whilst on phone to them..
i'm going to call again and point that out - it has to be tmobile..
@the jones are you also with talktalk for email? not that i think they are an issue as my web hosts smtp server also wont send..
I am not with talktalk. I am with fastmail. I discovered that I couldn't send over WiFi either but since setting everything up again all is well - so far!
ok on phone to tmobile now - the lovely hannah rechecked internet settings
proved can send via active sync so email settings correct
internet works and can recieve email
resent settings numerous times
also cant send via wifi
got transfered to a nice scottish lady who talked me through settings and changed the smtp address to smtp.t-email.co.uk and now it works - obvioulsy with this do NOT tick out going server requires authentication
anyone else on tmobile this should resolve any email sending issues - some isp wont allow you send when logged on via another isp connection - allegedly this is what was causing my problem..
its working for now anyway

Great! Any chance you can post up all the generic settings, connection settings etc. I have tried that as the smpt server in the past, but it didnt help. Wonder if I have some other problem...
Thanks
sure...
erm.. actually we created a new gprs connection too
start -> settings -> connections tab -> connections -> advanced tab
click a button called select networks.
then click new
start creating a new one - we called it 'email gprs'
then we had to name it again 'email gprs'
select a modem - 'cellular line (GPRS, 3G)'
access point name - general.t-mobile.uk
username: user
password: one2one
leave domain blank
click finish
go back into the advance tab and check that programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:
email gprs
then go and define your email settings
so for talktalk
pop3 address mail.talktalk.net
username will be your talktalk email address @talktalk.net
password = your usual talktalk mailbox password
smtp address use smtp.t-email.co.uk
untick outgoing server requires authentication
and that is all we did about an hour with hannah, 5 mins with the second person and its sorted - for now
@thejones i see you are on a 93 rom - mine is only a 37 fresh out the box from tmobile 2 weeks ago, how did you get yours on such a recent rom- did you flash it yourself? and is there any benefit in changing now i just got my email working
I flashed it myself. I downloaded it from the HTC website. I think its a much better ROM. Faster than .37 even with all the tweaks.
I am with T-Mobile but I have a standard Diamond rather than a Compact IV. My wife bought it for me

I spent a good bit of the day today researching this issue, but i have run into a brick wall - please help me out if you have any ideas.
The issue is that i can't access my gmail account via messaging on my at&t tilt except via a WIFI connection. If my phone is hitting my local wireless router i can send/receive fine, if my phone is hitting 3G, Edge, or HSDPA i receive 'Error Synchronizing" - "Cannot connect with current connection settings".
So, i read as much as i could on this issue and found a few common suggestions - all of which i have tried with no avail.
1) When i click settings -> advanced -> select networks - both are now set to MEdia Net ("programs that.. connect to the internet" and "programs that.. connect to a private network")
2) I have unchecked "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" in my MEdia Net proxy settings
3) I have tried removeHiddenProxy4CWS_0522.cab and checked the registry setting as listed here to ensure that EnableAutoDetect is set to 1
4) I have set "network connection" under advanced in my gmail settings to both "The Internet" and "MEdia Net" with the same results
5) I do have pop3 enabled on my gmail account (it works fine on the phone when connecting via WIFI)
6) I have tried both via pop3 and imap settings for my gmail account setup
7) The connection being used is set to wap.cingular (not isp.cingular)
Please keep in mind that this gmail account works perfectly fine in messaging so long as i am connected to a local wireless router, it is only when going through AT&T's network that it does not work.
Is there any chance that AT&T has changed how they are forcing the use of their proxy? Am i wrong to assume i should be able to download my gmail through their network?
(p.s. thanks for any insight or help you might provide, i have managed to get my tilt flashed with dutty's latest release as well as my radio flashed, but i am having no luck with this issue)
note: during these issues with gmail, my live.com email was working successfully - you can always setup forwarding on your gmail account for a temporary solution
In your isp settings does it say "isp.cingular" or "wap.cingular". I had the same problem until i changed it to "wap.cingular". When it fails to connect it pops up a bubble window with a warning that it failed. Click settings, isp settings, next until you get to the setting that says isp.cingular. This is all granting that you're in the USA.
Problem confirmed for me as well. Cannot connect to gmail via the messaging app unless connected to wifi. I'm using MediaNet connection using wap.cingular when not connected to wifi.

yes, mine is set to wap.cingular.. i switched everything to use the MEdia Net connection (not the My ISP one) - which was already set to wap.cingular.. thanks for the suggestion though, i left it out of my list - if anything this can be a consolidated spot for common causes.
FYI, it actually started working on its own since my initial post (after not having worked all day).. the only things i have done tonight are the following:
1) did a send/receive via a WIFI connection on the gmail account
2) setup outlook 2007 on my PC and synched my contacts/notes/email
3) upgraded my radio from default .11 to .17 (perhaps .11 radio restricts proxy settings?) (*soft reset - may have played a role?)
i wish i had tested it between each of these steps, but i wasn't really doing these things to try and fix the gmail issue.. hopefully it will stay working
Here's a silly question - had you tried simply soft-resetting the phone? I had the same problem for a bit, was absolutely driving me nuts, and all it took was a soft reset to get it to connect and work fine ever since. Maybe for future reference...

not a silly question.. i had tried resetting somewhere amongst my attempts during the day with no avail, but obviously i reset during flashing the radio rom, so who knows, maybe that did play a factor.
all i know is it is still working today from work, so that is a big plus.

try everything in the list, and try a soft reset as well.. if that doesn't do it you may want to try and update your radio rom to .17 since you are on .11 as i was..
I had the same problem and had to enable SSL for incoming and outgoing mail under the advanced settings in the Outgoing mail server setup page. Once I did that everything has worked perfect since then.
Hope it solves your problem aswell.
I've never had an issue with Gmail and wap.cingular...except HTML messages still not working.
The SSL thing is most likely it. If you read google's instructions for setting up the account it clearly states that ssl with authentication has to be enabled.
Gmail
For those having issues with Gmail, has anyone looked into Mobipush? This service allows you to use your device's Direct Push Technology to get your Gmail sent to your device in real-time. I had previously mentioned this in another thread. All you have to do is turn on POP or IMAP access in your Gmail settings and setup your device as per the instructions on Mobipush's site. I've been using the service and it seems to work great...and did I mention its free?
here's the link...
http://www.mobipush.com
I use Java for my Gmail account its very nice and fast with 3G. I have never tried setting it up on an account inthe built in Messaging App. I use Pocket MSN for my primary Hotmail account. Just download the Gmail IMAP software from Google and try it out and see what you think.

i had the same problem with bellsouth as my email provider when using outlook email but i got it to work on xpressmail - i still dont know what was wrong...
Same problem, I think
Gmail app loads and maybe 1kb comes down but then after a short time it errors saying that it needs a data connection and to look at the FAQ. This only started happening after upgrading to ATT ROM AKU 0.4.4. Worked on my stock ATT TILT no problems.
mobiPush looks good. I use Seven's extended beta. http://community.seven.com/forum/main.php They now support Gmail IMAP. It works great, and I like how it fixes Gmail's imap problems. I'll have to check out mobiPush to compare the two.
Funny, I was able to get G-mail to work fine on my first Tilt and I got the new one (red light of death issue) and now my G-mail won't work...

Tried setting up gmail in Messaging App
I tried to set up my gmail account too, just to see. I set up gmail pop3 at gmail settings. I went through messaging App and set up incoming with
pop.gmail.com:995 and outgoing smtp.gmail.com:465 Nothing seemed to work, says unable to connect with current settings. A few have already said that it worked fine under their messaging app. What settings are you using if you have it working? Please post your incoming and outgoing settings please.
Thanks, Kevin
I had this when I upgraded to Dutty's new rom, and I was panicking like mad. I tried everything - but nothing worked apart from wifi sync - so I went to bed. When I got up I tried to sync and worked right away...
So I dunno if you've been hard at work at this non stop - best thing to do is seemingly to let it settle, same thing happened for me when I upgraded again to V3 Dutty's (which is awesome by the way) - gmail started working after a little while (this time I did nothing)
Hi People
This is my first post so go easy on me!
I’m having problems sending mail using smtp on my tytn II. (error message says check network coverage and account info is correct). I have both wifi and HSDPA connections and I’m pretty confident I have all the account setting correct as it works on my old HP4150.
Everything else works fine i.e. web, windows live, exchange and as it works on my old HP this proves account settings are correct and my ISP servers relay SMTP. Anybody experienced any problems like this or have any advice.
Ta
During your setup of the email account, there is an option ( I think under advanced server settings or ??) but you choose which connection the phone should use (i.e. Media NEt, My ISP...whatever) make sure you have it set the a real Internet connection.

Yep, it's set to "internet connection" I’ve also tried the other connections types and they all have the same effect i can receive mail via pop3 fine but can't send it!
I've also tried disabling wifi, and just using the HSDPA and vice versa.
What is so strange is it works fine on my old HP4150!

isp = demon.net and their smtp address is post.demon.co.uk and i'm using i'm using a 3 contact sim.
when you added the emal account did you enter the details yourself or did you ask the device to scan for the settings for itself?
Did you get the device from 3 or was it on another network before?

You know things are getting bad when you start replying to your own posts!
Anyway i've just setup a google mail account for pop3 use and that works fine. Which kinda points to my ISP mail account settings but doesn't explain why they work fine on my HP4150!
Ok, but that doesn't answer the question I asked.
Anyway the second comment does. I would check the SMTP server as that does nto sound like an SMTP server to me, that looks like the incoming server personally.
Otherwise I wonder if its worth trying the generic 3 smtp server? If they have one.

The 3 setting were done automaticly by the network wizard, the email account details were setup manually and the device is HTC sim free and unlocked.
Ok. Thats simple enough.
Does the demon email account need SSL or anything?

Not to my knowledge and i have tried switching in on and off and it made now difference!
I'm really not getting anywhere with this fast! I've done a hard reset just in case any other programs are settings were causing problem and i still can't get it to work!
I've also managed to setup my pop3 account on a N95 and that works fine just like my HP4150 does, it has to be something on the tytn!
I used to work for Thus/Demon a couple of years ago, strangely enough. Their SMTP server only accepts incoming connections from Demon IP ranges - you can only send if you are connected using a Demon connection. i.e. this would only work if you are connected at home over wifi.
I just tested this from my work computer and this is still the case - I got an SMTP 550 error saying the service is unavailable from [my work IP address]. This would explain why you can't connect over HSDPA, but wouldn't explain why you can't connect over wifi at home.
You could try downloading PocketPutty and try using telnet to connect to post.demon.co.uk on port 25 - it should give you a more meaningful message than simply telling you your connection is not working.

That might explain a few things, Thanks, We use demon as our work ISP to and i've only tested my HP4150 and N95 at the office and at home. I do get the 550 error in the rejected email from demon also! But as you say you would expect the tytn to work on wifi and i have tried it with phone turned off.
Well if its any consolation i've never managed to send a single email since I bought my device. I'm on T-Mobile in the UK and my ISP is Nildram, and I can check email from any POP3 account just fine, but when I try to send anything I get the same error message as you. I've tried every conceivable combination of phone settings, connection settings, SMTP servers and NOTHING has ever worked. Thought I was missing something obvious but now im not to sure!
That makes me feel a little better! I think i'm gona do a bit more digging and see if i can find a work around.
I was thinking of maybe trying a newer radio rom to see if that has any effect.
What IP address does it say after the 550 error? You might not want to share it here for security reasons but www.samspade.org will let you do a whois on it. This will let you know if the device IS actually connecting on the demon connection, or if for some reason it is not.
Sorry I've made a slight mistake, The 550 relay not permitted email only occurs if i switch off "outgoing server requires authentication" there are no IP address attached to this.
With authentication on a window pops up on completion of sync saying "The message could not be sent check network coverage and that account info is correct"
I've just tried to use pocket putty and to be honest i think it might be a bit out of my league! I tried to open a telnet connection on post.demon.co.uk port 25 and just got a black screen!
Hi, I have used this site for around 2 years, and often found answers…..however, this one I cant get round…I hope someone can help..here goes :-
Have tried the following on all of these ROMS
RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe
SwiftBL-WWE-Diamond-ROM-v2-0

When trying to sign into MSN Messenger I don’t even get to the “enter Name/PW” section, it simply says “There was a problem signing you into messenger. It may be the service or you may be in a place with bad reception. Please try again later”
When trying to add a mail client (hotmail) I enter my ID/PW and then it says it has found the settings for Hotmail. I press next and it says that again it cant connect
When trying to sign into Windows Live it says it cant connect
I have evoked IE and opera to ensure I have internet connection
If I turn on WIFI, all connect perfectly.
I have not only tried the different Roms, but also tried other versions of Windows live cabs with no luck
Can anyone help?
I've only tries the TLR rom but i have the same issue, cannot connect using GPRS or 3G but connects fine using Wifi or via ActiveSync. Im also on Tmob
its to do with T-Mobile, they have limited the connection you get when dialing from the handset.
I had the same problem. You can phone T-Mobile and see if they can sort it out for you.
Cheers,
re Phoning T-Mobile
I did phone T-Mobile, and they said its not to do with them. I used to have the MDA Compact III and that works with MSN etc, and if i turn that phone back on with my tmobile chip, it works, so guess it isnt T-Mobile, unless they can block specifc requests from specific phones?

I can now sync my hotmail fine.

wahoo - thats fixed it
Thanks alot James, i will no longer throw the phone out of the window

Have a t-mobile mda compact iv(t-mobiles diamond version)you cannot do this fix on it because the internet connection is disabled by t-mobile from altering manual,it says it is preconfigured and manual setting is disabled.very clever of them

Nope, followed the instruction to the letter!
Also when I was using the standard T-Mobile ROM this following worked...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2422579&postcount=14
But now I’m using a custom ROM, I cannot get it to work...
Just a quick update, I too got it working!
You got to turn off 3G in the Comm manager, reset, then remove proxy setting, reset again, then syncronise via GPRS, then switch on 3G in the Comm manager, then reset then it should work!
You can probably reduce the number of soft resets, but that is what I did so left it in there...
As my hotmail and messenger is now working, im not going to fiddle with it. But if someone is still having issues could you try disabling HSUPA. Keep HSDPA enabled.
I know that I have disabled this somewhere along the way and it might be playing a factor in getting the above mentioned apps to work.
For people who have custom ROMs only it can be found in Settings > Connections > Advance Network Icon.
Post back here if you have any success for others to try...
Everything is working for me straightway whether it's the stock or the latest htc rom. I didn't have to fiddle with any settings.
I found this issue about 3 weeks ago, internet completely stopped working so i contacted T-Mobile and they said they were having issues and it would be fixed within a couple of hours, since it came back up some sites worked, some things wouldnt, my push email wouldnt work. Ended up unticking the proxies and it started working again perfectly have found i've had to do this with every ROM reflash so i think they perhaps have changed something at their end which is causing some issues.
i've been getting the same problems for about a month, funnily enough its only when boss changed account from normal to web and walk (had a 800 phone bill as thought wnw was enabled on the account already!)
tried disabling the proxy and it still fails sync'ing, the weird thing is that it does actually sync SOMETIMES.. ie i wake up in the morning and it has randomly synced once or something. so god knows what tmobile are up to
I have the MDA compact IV, Im using Dutty ROM V 1.5. had the same problem with MSN messenger and hotmail, contacted the T mobile support but they could not help me.
Now everything is working following just disabeling the proxy
But Im still not able 2 make the MSN 2 work on my laptop when I connect 2 the internet using the mobile phone! is there a fix for this problem?
when I try 2 connect I get this error: we were unable to sign u into windows live messenger, possibly because of a problem with your internet connection. please tru again later.

I don't know how it works on Windows but in Linux I have to transport MSN through HTTP mode when I'm connecting over T-Mobile . Is there a way to do that in Windows?
Similar issues here. When the proxy setting was enabled, I couldnt connect to either hotmail or gmail. When I disabled, gmail started working fine but so far I have only managed to sync with hotmail once!
I wish there was an easy fix for this because its a pain in the rear!
OK, so this problem I think is new since I flashed my ROM to 1.93.
I have 2 email accounts. Work email is on an exchange server and personal IMAP email. I can send emails through my work account but not through my personal account.
The settings for my personal account are correct and the SMTP server allows connections through any port, so that isnt an issue. Does anyone have any idea? I have no problems using this IMAP account anywhere else.
Thanks
I had the same problem when connecting via my t-mobile hsdpa connection. Thing is it worked fine over wifi! If this is the same for you, try disabling the 'enable proxy server' option in your networks internet connection settings, that worked for me!
If the disabling proxy setting option does not work ensure the personal email is connection though you operators connection.
Thanks for both the suggestions.
I did not have the proxy setting disabled and I also have checked that the connection is through my operators connection.
Still no joy though!
Any more ideas?
outgoing mailserver
The outgoing mailserver from your provider doesn't wrk with any connection other than the one from the provider itself. (like so many providers) If you use wifi at home you are connected with your provider and outgoing e-mail will work fine. Try to find a free e-mail provider that supports the outgoing e-mail server on any connection. For example www.phreaker.net. Their outgoing e-mail (and incoming) will do the job on your phone. I'm using a vodafone e-mail account, works 4 me, incoming and outgoing. I just use it to send e-mail when i'm on holiday.
If your outgoing server needs SSL, you have to go into Advanced Settings and enable it manually as well as specifying the connection to use for outgoing emails.
Well, I have deleted the account and set it up again and it is working once more. I use an SMTP server that accepts connections from any network so that was fine. One thing I have noticed is that to send immediately, I have to do both a send and receive, but the receive happens first. Is there any way of being able to just send immediately?
So, I had the same issue rear its ugly head again!
After some more searching, found this.

Seems to be the answer!
I just got a Diamond, put in my AT&T SIM, and let it automatically set up the connection for me. It set me up using wap.cingular. This delivers very fast internet, BUT, it won't stay connected to my exchange server for more than a few minutes (I have it set to sync as items arrive, and leave activesync always open on the phone). I tried doing a hard reset, then manually entering my settings (isp.cingular, [email protected], etc.) which works for exchange (it stays connected) , but when i run speed tests I end up only getting about 200k. Any ideas?
anyone with the DIamond on AT&T
Is there anyone else out there with a Diamond on AT&T using an exchange server connection? If so, would you mind sharing your data connection settings?
I am using the stock setup for AT&T. All I had to do was turn off the proxy server and it works fine.
do you use an exchange server connection? When you say you use the default setup, do you use wap.cingular or isp.cingular?
You shouldn't see either if you let auto setup configure the exchange server for you. The auto setup will check proxy server for you in the process. You should then be on MEdia net
(modem tab), with wireless.cingular appearing in the dimed box for name of the proxy server.
found the setting, I changed it and will report how it works. Thanks

the auto setup will turn the proxy for medianet on, since it's needed for it to send mms.
