Hi All,
I got my Touch Diamond from Orange 2 weeks ago and a mate at work liked it so much he wanted one. His contract with orange was due for renewal yesterday so he asked for the touch diamond as a upgrade. They told him the Touch Diamond was not available has it has been shelved or put into quaratine were the words they used because of software issues.
I've just rung orange myself if its true and customer care could not answer the question or if it was getting recalled, nobody had heard about it in the call centre.
I told them HTC had released a new ROM for it but i could not download it because my phone was bought from orange and i must wait for the orange update. I asked if it would affect my warrenty if i downloaded the official HTC ROM update they said it may affect the 6 month orange warrenty but not the 12 month HTC warrenty you have.
Has anyone else heard if orange have shelved the phone?
Thanks,
Mick.
Its still on their web site!!

Sounds like the opeerative has mis-understood the situation to me.
They are having problems putting the Orange Bastardware on it. It sounds like it is this process that has been shelved, rather than the phone itself. Orange would love the phone to be branded to buggery, but as they can't they are having to release them with a stock HTC ROM on them. Get your friend to try again - if necessary speak speak to someone higher in authority.
Alternatively get him to upgrade via their website.
If the phone has been shelved then it shouldn't be available on their website, yet it is.
Thanks Teppic i'll tell him to try that.
I still don't know what ROM to try or if i should wait for orange ROM. If i tried one of the ROMS on this site and something went wrong with the phone in the future, would i still be able to put the original ROM back on?
A email from a friend that works for Orange retail, suggested that he has 30 for sale in his store.
With regards to Flashing back to orange ROM and SPL (this is possible) but in past experiance, if you have ornage care, then I would not bother... I returned many a Orange branded Nokia or HTC with no comeback

I try to change the language from english to italian through a coocked rom upgrade.
I screwed the device
I sent it to support center in italy (I bought it in UK)
The sent it back completely upgraded to the very last rom and in ITALIAN!!
lol, nice. One question though. Did you check the S/N to make sure they sent you the same one back?
the IMEI changed...so I think they just kept the cover and replace the whole logic board!
Same thing happened to me a few months ago.
I upgraded to a qtek rom on my m3000 (thus voiding warrenty) and
after a few days i was surfing the internet and it just died on me.
Could'nt get it to boot anymore etc. So i returned it to orange shop here in town and stressed that i didn't want a refurbished one.
In the end Orange couldn't get it to work either apperantly because they switched the mainboard and send it back to me with the latest orange rom (back then) installed.
Hello,
I have recently had my handset replace by Orange's own insurance. The phone I had was the SPV E650 (HTC S710) which woirked fine, apart from the screen started switching off...
As they had no E650 left on that day, they sent me the TytnII. No complaints here, it's a free upgrade!!!
The only problem I have is that the default Orange software does not support Second Line on the 1 SIM like the E650 did.
I have looked around for a few ROMs that mgioht support this, but also looking for it to be quite stable.
Alot of Duttys ROM's seem to receive good feedback for this model, but i don't see any with the Second line support listed.
I know warrenty replacements might be an issue, but i will be backing up the ROM.
Normally I could just call and cancel the line 2, but this is a business line that Orange pay for (lowley employee, please don't blame me for wanting to earn money...).
Does anybody have any suggestions, as the only other option would be to have it swapped back under exceptional business circumstances.
Many Thanks in advance
Scotty
Hi everyone
I have the above as a works phone and cannot really SPL the thing. I have read all new ones are pre-loaded with 6.1?
Does anyone know when Orange plan on releasing a 6.1 update, or if a copy has got out into the wild, or if the new phones have been copied and if there is a some way I could update?
Many thanks for any comments from you techno gods out there....
htc has some website that you can look on to see if your company has a rom update. I'm from the states and htc hates us so we don't have that option. (unless we actually bought a kaiser and not a tilt) So I am not versed in the HTC website format.
orange not released an updated yet but you could use the latest HTC rom and put that on your phone but you will need to hard spl it first, i recommend 3.28 as im using it and everythings fine.
The rom is ruu_Kaiser_htc_wwe_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_28.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_ship.exe you can download from this site
if new to changing roms then you need to do a bit of re search on this site and also you'll need to load SSPL-KAIS first on your phone before the Kaiser-HardSPL3.28 and then finally the rom above. all available on this site somewhere.
At first it seems complicated but after 20 or so flashes its a dodle....

intrested in finding this website.... t-mobile staff didn't seem to know anything about a 6.1 update when i recently e-mailed them.
T-mobile maybe releasing the update in July or August is the official response to be timed with the release of the Vario 4
Bump!
If the phones that currently ship are coming with 6.1 is it possible to lift the rom and put it on my phone?
Thanks for any info....
My Kaiser that arrived on Friday has 6.0 on it not 6.1
It's on the Three network
Don't know about 3, but orange are I believe. I heard they took the phone out of sale for two weeks to make the change?
Surely on this doyen of PDA knowledge, someone can give me an answer. Aren't there any orange staff reading this?
Orange are rubbish - why would they give a ****?
Im disappointed in Orange. They are supposed to be releasing 6.1, but it never seems to happen... They say keep an eye on the download site, but the rom never arrives!
I wish they would sort this out... I love the phone, but a bit fed up that the vibrator never stops sometimes when I get an email!
S
actually if you compare orange to at&t orange is the better provider
for instance i broke my universal (spv m5000) and they deliver the next day. on 15 quid admin cost wereas at&t charge extortionat prices for this
they have a better 3g coverage great customer service
the only reason im dissappointed is because they **** about with there roms thats why its take a while to get them out i rang orange about a week ago and they said 5 months
but at least if it dies you can get a fast delivery of a new one
I wish they would hurry up!!
Do you know if they ship new ones with 6.1, or still 6.0??
S
They are shipping new ones with 6.1. There are several people on differant forums reporting how much quicker their replacement phones are to their old 6.0.
Can the new rom be lifted and put on to a version 6.0 without spl. ANYBODY??
Orange might never release the damn thing. I ask you, if its OK for new phones why not release it?
had my tytn II now for a couple of weeks and can say its 6.1. afaik all tytns now shipped by orange should be flashed with 6.1 but be wary in dealerships as they may still be clearing old stock running on 6
Mine has a small fault... I was just going to ignore it, but if the Orange Care replacement will be 6.1, then I might report it after all...
Anyone had an Orange Care replacement of a 6.0 for a 6.1??
Thanks

Behave. You will get bad experiences with all networks, your infinitely superior network included.
As for 6.1, not in Orange stores yet. I work in Orange retail, theres certainly been no recall to update them. The website is listing them as out of stock when the retail allocation is still OK, so its possible the business website has pulled them to update them to 6.1 - even though on the spec sheet its still showing as ver 6.
hhmmm sound promising. the only ****er with replacing is the fact i have to keep the back cover which has started to deteriorate. and some of the clips have snapped of the back

Tell them the covers broken, you'll have to pay the admin fee regardless, a broken backdoor impedes normal function of the phone if say...the battery keeps falling out. Or something.
Generally though, handset replacements are refurbed kit which will obv be reflashed, so its feasible that it'll have 6.1 but I wouldnt hold out for it.
ill wait until the phone kicks it. at least the admins so low. atnt charge eq 200 quid for replacements and orange uk pay 15
lovin it
just had to have a replacement phone off orange care last week my replacement still as only got version 6 on it
This is very interesting as my phone had no orange customization on either. BUT!
If you look through the handbook ( ON the CD )
Check out the themes and wallpaper shown there?
Also look through the programs that are listed there..
ORANGE downloads
ORANGE tv
ORANGE music.
None of these are on your phone.
Now i`ve spoken to orange on 4 occasions about this. I thought i was a one of and some how they had managed to forget to install said items. But like the man at orange said there should be at least an orange logo when starting up.
So now i`m confused. i`ve just got back from the post office as i`ve sent mine back.
Please can any body tell me if they have an orange diamond with the above items on.
I suspect Orange rushed it out ahead of the iphone 3g and probably didnt manage to get there customisations ready.
I only have the orange logo on the back. Nothing more but is that a great loss?
Mmm spoke to Orange again after seeing the comments on here. Now they are telling me its a generic phone and comes with no orange customization on it. The lady said that the missing stuff could be activated with a pin number from the data and fax team!! This i doubt but who knows?
Spoke to someone in an orange shop and they say theres are all branded with the orange menus etc!!
Mine was Orange packaging but that was it. The phone seems pretty much stock HTC
Mine too is orange-peeled, so to speak.
The interesting thing is that the pdf guide that comes with it, details all the orange customisation and programs. So Orange must be planning to put their stuff on it.
Mine was from phones4u if it helpls
I would advise those thinking about getting this phone on Orange to do so ASAP. Clearly it was supposed to be branded, but was rushed out to combat the iPhone launch.
Mine has no Orange branding except the logo on the back of the case. I'm not too worried though as I would only have had to get rid of all the branding!!

I'm hoping that they forget to brand the Touch Pro when they eventually release it. I'm really tempted by the Diamond but the lack of SD card expansion is putting me off.
Ever since Orange were constantly accused have having no handset selection they have released key models with no branding quickly and then followed up later. It's clearly a tactic to compete with the iPhone. What are the French handsets from Orange like?
Same here - no branding apart from the logo on the back cover.

Stupid question, but why would you want Orange branding on it, other than to access Orange downloads, TV and Music (and these will ony be links to the various sites and would probably be easily obtainable from elsewhere)? As an Orange TyTN II owner I can tell you that their customization slows the phone down. The best thing I ever did was flash the stock HTC ROM to it.
I was toying with the idea of getting the Diamond, especially after reading the comments about it being unbranded except for the logo on the battery case, but the lack of SD card slot is a deal breaker for me, so I'm holding out for the Touch Pro, especially if they again release it unbranded.
Personally I think you might have made a mistake sending the phone back in order to get one with Orange Bloatware on it...

Mmmm me too i thought it was a fault but now looking at the posts i wish i`d have kept it.
Oh well i`ll see what my replacement one is like when i get it...
mine doesnt have any orange software on it either and thank god. orange software has always slowed the system down.
mine doesnt have the remote desktop mobile application that the manual detail - iv also seen a youtube vid showing it. anyone else got this?
No branding? Here's hoping mine doesn't have it either when it comes tomorrow.
Better not do any firmware updates by entering you Orange Serial Number too, as im sure those will be branded.
Stick to ROM updates from this forum.

Would appreciate that you let the gang here know, considering yours is part of the second allocation of stock.
just spoke to Orange CS who said they are getting stock in today, i'll be ordering mine later so i'll let everyone know what it comes with (hope there's no bloatware on it!)
a fast "search" for "orange" could give you this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407474&highlight=orange
and 2-3 more, orange related. please use search,
thank you for keeping it (the forum) clean of clutter!
I got this diamond upgrade last Friday.
Today I was told that Orange recalled all HTC Diamond due to a system problem. Is this news true?

i still have mine
must say orange CS have tryed to call me twice in the last 2 weeks...
and i keep missing the calls...opss
Did they ask you to return the phone and are they replacing with new one ? . Is this official news ?
They haven't asked for mine back.
I received mine on the first day of launch and I was pleased it didn't have any orange crap on it. If they are recalling then it must be to flash em with the late arriving orange ROM.
(UK)
I've had mine a few weeks now (having got it through Phones4U rather than direct from Orange) but haven't heard anything from either company regarding a recall.
Something to look forward to!

They are probably trying to trick people in to sending them back so that they can put the Orange Bastardware ROM on them...
Maybe its to fix the crappy 3g reception
This news is rubbish ill be happy to let you know.
Its more likely someone misinurperting what happened at our warehouses.
We tried to load Orange software on them, they failed quality checks and we reloaded generic software on them so they could be released for sale.
There is deffo no recall!
I would know!! Believe me! lol

About as good as the T-Mobile software maybe. Orange send thier Diamonds out without the value-added crapware. Have T-Mobile put thier crapware on thier Diamonds? I would be well p*ssed of if I got an MDA Compact IV to find out that they had replaced the cool-looking black 3DTF interface from HTC and replaced it with a corporate in-yer-face pink and white one.
Edit: Just watched a YouTube of a Pink and White themed MDA Compact IV - nasty
A friend last night told me about the recall, as he works for an indpendant phone store. They have had the unbranded diamond recalled because they are over heating and going pop.
Im just waiting for orange to call up now and ask for it back.
