I have an AT&T branded Kaiser (8925). I spilled a tiny amount of soda on it about a week ago and ever since then the keyboard hasn't worked. It has come to life several times, but I think there is either still moisture or maybe some sort of syrupy residue left over. I have tried following Mike Channon's instructions but I am probably being legendarily thick. I can't seem to release the locks with the plastic stick. I don't want to force or be too rough as i'm afraid of damaging the phone. Could someone please help me? I would greatly appreciate it.

see this, good luck
i couldn't have explained it better my self HOWEVER, you don't need to take the screws from the hinges off (they are kind of a pain to put back on) you can just slide the screen half ways after taking it apart and guide the data cable trough there.
i have taken my kaiser apart 3 times already, (don't ask)

I'm wondering if anyone has managed to take apart their kaiser -- beyond just unscrewing the back cover. The "Void" sticker by the way is very easy to take off and put aside for easy replacement later. However, I can't get beyond the specially shielded antenna area. Anyone taken it apart and want to share their instructions?
Hi
You don't need to, it's already been done on the FCC website:
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas...mFrame=N&application_id=409381&fcc_id='NM8KS'
Regards
Phil
But I like to take mine apart to put the screen protector on so I don't have any non-protected space. The FCC doesn't guide me through taking it apart. I was hoping someone around here had managed to do it, but I guess the phone isn't popular enough yet.
LOL, applying screen protector cant be that big a task, can it? Be careful of turning the "screen protector" into the "other parts un-protector"
*Shrug* I did it with the Hermes every time. It was nice frankly -- and yes, certainly a bit OCD-style unnecessary. But it looked nice, hard to tell there's a protector on it at all. And as long as one is careful, it doesn't hurt anything -- my Hermes is still kicking after a year of doing that. So again, I'm guessing no one has been able to take it apart yet... it'll happen soon enough.
I dig the fact that you went through so much trouble to protect your Hermes BUT at this point no one has had the balls to take apart there $1,000 Kaiser just yet. I'm sure pretty soon there will be some pictures detailing the steps
It is VERY easy to take a tilt apart
My Screen got cracked so I ordered a new one for $47. The website also has the instructions for taking the tilt apart to replace the screen. You can get the instructions here:
http://e5hopa.bay.livefilestore.com..._TILT_8925_KAISER SERVICE MANUAL.pdf?download
I replaced my screen in about 30 minutes.
why do people keep posting threads like this, are the others not good enough?
I tired searching but this is such a random problem, I didn't really know what to search for. So if you know of another thread - please let me know.
I was at my mall yesterday and saw that they had just gotten in new plastic covers for my Tilt. I was excited and wanted to see one on. They insisted on putting it on themselves. Major mistake... when she was taking the back piece of the cover off, she popped the case away from the phone. There is now a gap between my keyboard and the outer case by the camera button and power button.
I have tried for a couple of hours to get the piece back in where it should be to no avail. I still have a warranty on the phone so I don't want to just start disassembling the phone, is there some kind of trick to popping it back on without taking it apart?
I know that I will probably have to just let the tech at the store take it apart but I really hate to have him do that just in case I do need to use the warranty.
Thanks in advance!
I was trying to get to work and finally got it. There is a trick to putting that piece back. The keyboard needs to be pushed down right by the side and then it clips in. Thanks for taking a look!
Hi guys. So a couple months back my AT&T Tilt screen cracked. Here's the story.....
One day I was at school and I had my Tilt in my pocket. When I came home I turned it on and the screen was cracked! (Refer to pictures at the bottom of this post).
It appears to have a couple of hair line cracks and a couple other weird ones. The phone still works normally. I've actually inserted my SIM card, turned the phone on, and made a call with it when the screen was cracked! Also if I turn it on the usual things happen. If I slide out the keyboard, it makes the noise that the keyboards open and vice versa. It's just the screen (or so I think). What should I do? I've heard about buying a new screen on eBay for around 50 - 60 dollars, or sending it in to a place like this.
http://www.missionrepair.com/Mission_Repair_AT_T_Tilt_8925_LCD_Screen_Repair_p/222-4037.htm
I just want to fix it and then sell it on eBay. I only used the phone for about 1 week and now it's just been sitting around for 2 months. What should I do?
P.S. Don't forget to look at the pictures below.

Just depends on how good you are with practical tasks. The Kaiser is not an overly difficult dismantle, but these things are fiddly sometimes. If you have never done this sort of thing before and your not a practical sort of person, then send/take it for repair.
If you are pretty practical with small delicate equipment and have looked at the Service Manual and dismantling guides then replace the LCD.
(If you have not seen the Sevice Manual and guides then - www.mikechannon.net)
Mike
Fix It!!!!!!!!!!!
Its still a usable phone. Find a screen, send it to me and I'll fix it for ya. If you attempt it, be careful as some clips are a pain in the ass to pry off. couls ruin it even more. How much you selling it with the screen cracked like that?
wow thats one hecka cracked screen..what do you carry in your pocket along with the phone, a glock? maybe a nine..grenades???
Actually I carried nothing in my pocket. I must've sat on it or something!
Hey FLiPinoy9oNe6, how much do you charge to repair the Tilt screens?
Hey FLiPinoy9oNe6, how much do you charge to repair an AT&T Tilt screen?
it was a joke lol cause you just said you had it in your pocket and ive read posts where people "mysteriousky" had there screens crack which is impossible unless high pressure has happened which is usually sitting.stepping.dropping.throwing...lol
I cracked my att tilt in the exact same spot and the same cracks formed... weird.
Its an extreamly easy fix, only takes 30mins, order the screen online got mine for like 40 bucks, and get the screw drivers needed. Its simple and kinda hard to mess up just follow the disassembly instructions or video which are all free online.
My trackball is broken or has dust in it. It doesn't move left unless I push it in while going left, and sometimes clicking it doesn't register.
Has anyone attempted opening the G1 to clean or replace the trackball? I was looking at the Dream pdf and it seems like quite a task.

Blow the dust out with compressed air, should fix it. Or just spint it vigorously for few minutes. I don't see track ball breaking that fast (it's not BB for crying out loud ). That happened to me few months ago and a little air fixed it.
Good luck
it isnt too bad to open up the phone and clean it, but dont unless absolutely necessary. Lots of connections that can be prone to damage, and some tape that needs to be carefully removed and reused or replaced.
I've tried moving it vigorously many times, which didn't work.
So I used my air compressor and blew air into it, and that didn't work.
Then I tried rubbing alcohol with a q-tip, and that hardly worked.
I have opened my phone, wow!
I have a bronze G1 and the keyboard is not viewable, found someone in hong kong selling them for 5 bucks so i bought the black keyboard pad and replace it. It was a pain and mind you, my background is totally different than most peoples. I have worked as a Electronics Tech for most of my life and have taken EVERYTHING apart as long as i can remember. That thing has some of the smallest connectors and tiniest screws i have ever seen.
Yes it can be done, the hardest part your going to have to deal with is the splitting of the internal case, they sent a small plastic tool with the keypad and without that i would have probably destroyed the phone in the process. If you can find a small plastic or wooden tool to do that part its not to bad and you do not have to go as far as i did.
If however you do not have a background in taking stuff apart and putting it back together again. AVOID doing so!!
Your phone will NOT SURVIVE most likely. First time took me several hours even with the G1 PDF which looks great till you have to rely on it. Only issue i had was i didnt get the camera connector plugged back in so everything using the camera force closed, that was my clue. So i had to open it up a second time, everything works now and love it but it was not the easiest thing i have ever worked on truth be told.

This same worked for my trackball, thanks
last year i recommended a colleague to buy this phone (mi a2 lite)
A few days ago, he told me that his son dropped him on the ground and broke the screen. he went to a shop and was asked for € 75.
later, he went to youtube and noticed that it's not that difficult to change it yourself. I searched the screen on the various e-commerce sites and found many. He would like me to help him buy a decent one so that he then undertakes to assemble it himself.
Do you have any to recommend? there are a lot of them and I wouldn't want to waste too much money. He said he needs the screen and any glue needed to attach it.
Many thanks in advance : Highfive:
(I translated everything with google translate to avoid too many grammatical errors ...)
I recommend watching the video in this link to disassemble. Also, Google for other A2 Lite tear-downs to get a good feeling for what you are going to do. As far as which screen to buy, I don't know which is the best but I bought this one. I am happy with it. The only other recommendation I have is to buy the screen AND the frame. It's only a couple more bucks for the frame. Then you just transfer the motherboard, etc... to the new frame/screen. No need to glue anything back and no need to worry about heating up the old screen to remove it.
A couple pointers:
* Be careful removing the fingerprint ribbon cable - it can rip easily (but a replacement can be purchased as well from China).
* Be careful removing the earpiece. I pried it up wrong and it split in half. I had to buy another from the UK which took about 3 weeks to arrive.
*When removing the tape that holds the battery in place, wind it slowly but firmly. If you go fast it will snap and then the battery will be hard to pry out.
Overall, I didn't think it was too difficult. I just had a problem with the earpiece & battery tape. Not bad considering I don't do this everyday.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot for the answer!
I watched the video and read the answers in that other thread too.
As soon as I catch my colleague, I will tell him all these things. I must also remind him that the phone has this middle name (redmi 6pro) so that he can get better information.
A little thing I didn't understand is that he told me he had seen a video showing how the screen was changed. And he told me how it has to be heated for a few seconds in order to detach it. Instead, in the video link in that other thread, it shows how to detach all the components until you get them all on the table. But, the only piece that had to "warm up" is the fingerprint reader.
Clearly, you suggested that I watch other videos on google and since this colleague of mine is not very well versed in the internet and the various ways to "retrieve information" I will have to help him both in recovering instructions and then ... ordering the necessary "pieces".
He told me that in addition to detaching the screen, after heating it ... there was only need to detach a cable or two that connects the screen to the motherboard and the game was done.
There is a thin thread that binds my future skill in recovering assembly and disassembly instructions ... the cost of the components and hoping that he has grasped the concept.
(I hope google translator has translated everything in a decent way xD )
If you follow my advice and replace the screen & frame, you won't need to heat anything to replace it. You just transfer the contents (motherboard, earpiece, etc...) from the cracked screen/frame to the new screen/frame.
The fingerprint reader attaches to the back cover and that gets replaced onto the new screen/frame...so it never has to be removed in the first place.
I found what I did was the best method for me. I tried replacing a screen on a Samsung Galaxy S4 years ago. Heating up the screen wasn't easy since I only had a blow dryer. I ultimately completely destroyed that phone trying to heat/pry the broken screen off, even though the video made it seem very easy. I didn't want a repeat of that so I choose to just transfer the components to the new screen/frame.
this is the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNuRf7uOADc&t=437s
I finally found my colleague and told him about this other method.
I showed him (from my phone) the video posted in the other thread.
His response was:
"oh my god how do I put it all back together?
I would be confusing for sure. In the video that I have seen, just heat the front part and then I will only have to detach and reattach only 2 cables. "
he told me that he doesn't have that tool that looks like a hairdryer. But he would like to use a kind of hot metal counter that is used to pack the products in plastic. He would like to put the phone down a few seconds and then take off the screen.
I, if I had been in his place, I would have certainly opted to disassemble and reassemble everything. I do not trust very much to unstick and glue such delicate components.
But I've never tried either, so I have no idea how to make him understand that it's not as easy as it seems.
Assuming, that I have to buy him a screen that allows him to do as he says, which one should I buy? In the sense, I noticed for sale the famous screens with or without frames. But in your case, which one should I opt for?
I hate the fact that I have to take on this big responsibility of having to help and choose what to do.
however this forum is beautiful. As soon as I can I would like to follow him more to read the various topics ...
thank you for the advice not to heat the screen but to follow that method of detaching and reattaching the components but I may not be able to convince him ...
Reassembling the phone is no more difficult than disassembling it. In fact, it might even be easier.
Who is going to do the actual work? You or him? If it's him, let him do whatever he wants...his way. If it's you, then just get the screen & frame and swap components over.
The rest is up to you guys now. He asked you for help/advice. Tell him to let you help/give him advice or he's on his own.
