Can someone answer ?'s about my SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.2? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me concerning SPB MS on my AT&T, stock ROM/Radio Tilt.
In my SPB MS I have 4 icons at the bottom: Now, SPBMenu, Contacts, and an X to close out of SPB MS. I noticed that all of the skins and themes for SPB MS have 5 active icons with no X and say.
Would this mean that none of these skins/themes are compatible with my SPBMS?
Is there something wrong with my version? (It says 2.1.2 and not just 2.1 like all of the posts)
Or is there something else amiss??
Thanks in advance!
Christopher

Most custom skins for Mobile Shell have left out the close button because you can close Mobile Shell by swiping your finger from top to bottom. MS v2.1.2 is a minor update to v2.1 but you should be able to use most custom skins with it. MS v2.1.1 messed up a few of the custom skins so SPB work with customers to resolve the problem.
If you are familiar with replacing files on your phone then you should be able to use a custom skin, just be sure to follow the directions in the post you download it from.

Actually, I am not familiar with replacing files; I've never performed this act.
I will make an attempt tonight though
Thank you for reponding

While we're on the subject, how can I transfer my thumb cal into the Now screen of the Mobile Shell?
When I tap a day on the Now screen, it goes to the factory Tilt calendar; which sucks
I'd like to tap a day and go directly to the Thumb Cal I have.
Thanks!
Christopher

That is not currently possible with mobile shell. Hopefully SPB will change this in the future.

Dang. That sucks. Are variations of the Thumb Cal added as Icon tabs in the skins?
I'm guessing this is the case

I've never used the program before and really not sure about all custom skins.

HTC home or SPB mobile shell?

Hi all, i wanna ask if i should install mobile shell onto my kaiser? really luv the page of mobile shell but heard it drain out the battery and slow down the ram...is that true?
i want something to display my battery % without clicking in as well a clena calender on interface...pls let me know which software provide it.
thks alot!
p.s. the Kaiser really smooth runnign so far + the radio rom really much improved comapre to my previous Trinty.
Yes it's true!
From my experiences, everything you've heard about the SPB shell and other apps (Diary, Weather, etc.) do in fact drain the battery! There is also a noticeable slowdown in performance with these running.
With these installed and enabled on my Task Window, I go from 100% charge down to 60% in about 3 hours. I was obviously tethered to a power plug or car adapter.
I've opted to go with the native HTC Home plugin and will work this weekend to customize the weather, the CUBE, icons, and all the other goodies.

I am in the same boat as you and I was just debating myself on the same thing.......
I had used many SPB software and had SPB MS/Backup/PhoneSuite on my P3600i prior to the Kaiser. But HTC Home gave me substantially similar functionality (except for SBP Backup which I installed on my Kaiser), I am very hesitant in installing SPB software if they are not needed, especially when the Kaiser is so stable without MS/PhoneSuite.......
I use HTC home plugin and the battery life is good.
For battery indicator, I suggest "batti"
http://pda.jasnapaka.com/batti/
It is very light, very small, works well, customizeable
For calendar, you may look Calendar+ or TodayAgenda.
Btw, do you use SPB GPRS Monitor as well?
I am considering of using it, but thinking of memory drain.
hey all,
thks for all da infos~~~i think i will keep my HTC instead. Since it's really smooth runnin dun wanna slow down by any softwares.
Kaiser is soooo much improved on speed .......previous i hv problem with mapking R12 (the speed , the reaction.....just so dead slow) now really kickin off!
i m luvin it!~~
ps. For the Batti software....seems it's similar to the preinstall one...anyone?
No, it is not the same
Batti gives you "line" indicator at the very top of your sceen.

but i got the line indicator now as well.....hmm.......
I immediately switched back to Mobile Shell. Don't get me wrong; the default design of WM6 is fine but the clock is way to large and some tabs really bug me (like quick-choice for the sound profiles).
My phones need to have a clean interface so now I'm only running the default install of Mobile Shell, Owner and Calendar. Loads of room on screen to spare for new/cool apps.
SPB Shell is the way for me.
My experience is that with HTC Home plug-in battery drained faster than with SBP Shell. I also find Shell easier to use with fingers. An more configurable.
I have cLaunch with large iPhone icones attached to one of the Shell's tabs - works very nice.
Quick question for you Mobile Shell user
I like the PHOTO tab in the HTC Home where you can put 9 pictures for speed dial.
And I saw SpB shell can have that too.
But from the screenshot in the website, it displays about 5 pictures ...
Actually, how much can you have with Mobile Shell?
Thanks

Yea...I didn't find this to be true at all in my case. The native HTC plugins don't drain my battery at all.
I've now removed all SPB apps and am running just the HTC Home plugin. I now got the CUBE to animate so I'm really excited! I'll work on more CUBE and Home plugin customizations.

I love SPB Mobile Shell, I was using it with my original TyTN. However, for some reason, it kept freezing my TyTN II device whenever I key locked it. I also noticed my device was sluggish with it. I am NOT a fan of the HTC Shell one bit. It takes up the whole screen. So, now I use iLauncher for my shortcuts to programs or as my shortcut phone calls to contacts.
I hope SPB Mobile Shell comes out with a new release which corrects many of these issues.

Use Batti for Battery Display ALL THE WAY! (Since Blue Angel...)
I got my TyTN(Hell it is hard to type it right) yesterday and i find the HTC Home application very neat. Compared to SPB Shell, I think i will use the HTC Home and forget about installing the resource exhaustive SPB applications(not too bad but still)
SPB Shell needs some refining before i will consider it again.
I used Mobile shell on my 8125. Loved it. but i find that everything i used it for is now built in to my TyTN II. Weather, photo speed dial, program shortcuts, time, phone ringer settings switching.. There is no need for the now screen with the HTC home plugin.. I did use spb menu but now that my new device actually has a start menu button this really isn't needed any more either. So i saved myself a ton of ram and skipped on Mobile shell.
I did install diary though. It is still the best calendar today plugin for me. I disabled all the tabs except the calendar tab and have it setting just bellow HTC home.. works well. And you know what? it is actaully very fast and doesn't use very much ram if you disable all the tabs

Making the Kaiser Finger Friendly

I don't know if everyone else has incredibly small fingers, but I had trouble using the on screen keyboard with my digits without pressing the wrong buttons all the time. Secondly, I found navigating with the Kaiser when docked in a car or a holder to be a complete bind. Trying to do something like a telephone call was way more difficult than my old Nokia 6230i
I just wanted to say that I am now finally happy with my Kaiser after doing the following 4 things:
Installing KaiserTweak and modifying settings such as TouchFlo sensitivity and backlight settings
Installing PointUI for finger based navigation
Installing PocketCM Contacts - This ties in nicely with PointUI's interface and filled in a feature that PointUI desperately lacked
Installing PocketCM Keyboard to stop my fat fingers pressing the wrong buttons.
I can now use my Kaiser completely from the screen without having to revert to the stylus or the keypad, which is very useful when it is docked somewhere like in the car.
I just wanted to let others know in case they were having the same problems as I had.
Regards,
Rob

I wasn't aware of those products and they are definitely worth considering. The Resco keyboard appears to work in a very similar way to the PocketCM Keboard with a couple of added features as far as I can see.
also something to consider is the big start menu and long endkey.
and i use finger friendly friends instead of pocketcm contacts because it is alot faster.
the spb mobile shell works really good spb also has a onscreen keyboard that works pretty sweet
I've been sold by FFF. The speed and on screen keyboard accuracy is the best that I have seen for finger usage. If anyone has any other finger usability improvement programs they'd like to suggest free or to pay for I'd be interested in hearing about them.

iContact is also very good. Takes of very little device memory unlike PocketCM and it's very easy to use. This one is free and is in the develop and hacking section. No need to install it either...just run the .exe from your phone.
i had FFF before until they promped me in registering... but i remember reading somewhere that the software was free during this time of development...

It's easy enough to find the blue and black style cab's here: http://www.pointui.com/Home.aspx
so let me get this straight this is something just like spb mobile shell?
i thought it was like a plug in allowing the navigation of the device it self to be more finger friendly...
is there anything like that?
here is my combo.
touchpal pro (keyboard)
thumb cal (calander)
PocketCM (Contacts)
Asus Launcher (Start Menu)
Touch Cube (Quick Access to stuff)
THis will keep you finger frindly.

Yeah, I love the scroll speed on this app. Can anyone tell me why other apps and Windows Mobile itself has to be so sluggish when little 3rd party efforts like this and Pointui work so much faster??
i have already tried FFF and didnt like it much. SPB contacts work the sameway and the buttons are bigger...
i am still interested in the touch keyboard...
I tried PocketCM but it didn't work as well as I'd hoped. The problem -- for me anyway -- was that if I wanted a letter like "r" I'd have my finger over it but it's so sensitive that the act of lifting my finger would trigger an adjacent letter and I'd get that instead.

spb mobile shell 2.0 vs Dutty...

anyone care to chime in on this??? Is it worth going to the spb? Can you install over top of latest Dutty? Looks pretty cool!
Dutty is a rom..... SPB MS 2.0 is a program. It'll run on any rom.
Yeah I know that it is... I guess I was meaning how does it compare to just running HTC home? Worth the buy?

You can download a trial for it. Mods please move this thread the Kaiser Software forum.
but this has nothing to do with dutty's rom..
for me its worth the buy...read more on the spb website
sorry..
Guess I should have posted over there sorry..
SBP products run great and are essential for any phone but I only use SBPdiary w/HTCH on my Today screen. Most of their products run great in the background, SBPTime for powerful alarm clock, stop watch, and world timer. SPB Phone Suite excellent calling features that can run in the background as well.
I typically enjoy HTCHC but from time to time I wish I had the artistic and technological skills to create something different
I have a Tilt, and I tried installing both SPB Shell 2.0 and SPB Pocket Plus 4 on Dutty's April 1st rom, and they worked but did one weird thing, when the phone would boot up the signal would go in and out, flashing there, then not there, then there etc., it would do this for almost a minute before finally locking on a signal.

I would say that the SPB Mobile Screen 2 program is awesome! I have been using it on top of Dutty's Light rom and it works great. Real smooth and responsive, lots of customization options as well as nice fit and finish which is hard to find on a WM6 product.
If you want a free version you can always check out .... to find all the crack codes for almost any software package out there.
As far as the downsides go, it eats battery faster than normal, it does not run on your today screen which bothers me and you can OK through it and go back to your today screen. That problem is slightly solved by SPB making it your default app when you start up the phone and bring it back from sleep which elevates most of the issues.
I just flashed my phone and am going to try giving HTC Home Live a chance, but if I do not think it is customizable enough I am going straight back to SPB... Before I forget to mention, SPB has one of the best opening screens I have seen so far, it has a email, missed calls and text messages right on the front, as well as weather, call options, clock, and the best part a calendar with dates and your schedule all in an easy to read form.
I hope this clears up something for you. Hopefully you wont have to pay for it, but if you do, I would actually say it is worth the 30 bucks.

Try Pointui as well, you might like it and not buy spb mobile shell at all. The last time I tried this was when it just came out in Alpha stage and it did quite well and was fast with the original, slow wm6 OS that came with my Tilt

Ahh, so that's what's causing it, I was going nuts trying to figure out why that was happening with them, thanks dwny! It does level off after a minute or so like you said and then it's fine, I was thinking it was screwing with my signal or phone, but if it's normal and not a problem, I am putting them back on. I am so glad you posted this, I was missing my SPB stuff, HTC Home just isn't cutting it for me. I had hard reset the Tilt and reloaded Dutty's Rom, and left off those programs because, like I said, I thought it was an error.
Edit-If I shut off the weather, will it stop that behavior? I don't use the weather on SPB MS, It doesn't have the weather for my town of Redwood Valley, I use Weather Bug and Weather Watcher for that. It's weird, I didn't have this issue when running MS or PP on Laurentius's ROM's. I take it that the signal thing is only visual, ie.the signal is actually okay, but while it's updating at boot up it "shows" it as going in and out, no?

Be careful with Point UI, it's tricky to uninstall (there is no uninstall for it in the "remove programs" page), and it leaves pieces of itself of it allover. I tried it too, and it has a ton of potential, but they really need a way to get it off the phone, right now it's an exercise in frustation.

you tried htc home customizer w/ quick launcher?
There are many customized icons, clocks, backgrounds, and weather views. In addition w/ quick launcher you have an extra row of tabs, which you can change to go to any program (and icons of course).
I stuck with HTC embedded inside Ultimate Launcher.
Ultimate Laucher is not that complicated if you look carefully a little bit of patience and you'll get the hang of it, moreover you could just copy your Ultimatelauncher.ini file as backup to have the same setup each time in case you like flashing roms a lot.
For HTC Home there's HTC Home Customizer, lots of icons to download.
I've tried most of them, but i always end up with the simplest setup I guess I got tired of fancy sliding and multiple clicks, the fewer clicks to find what I need does it for me.
Btw, there's another nice today app I'd like you to see it's rlToday Check it out

why yes, on any non-touch screen WM 6.x device... in other words, a smartphone, not a Pocket PC. In a way, you answered yourself: this is WM Standard, and Kaiser is WM Professional.
Ah, that explains it then. It's a shame it's not also available on touch screen devices, as I think it looks really clean - nicer than the usual HTC Home app I think. I've tried other home screen clocks and styles, but havent found one yet that I really like (other than this one unfortunately...!!)
Thanks anyway
I use SPB Mobile Shell as it looks slightly more usable than HTC Home which was not bundled with phone initially.
I use SPB mobile shell too,it´s more better than HTC home. And for big clock on today I´m using Pocket digital clock.

SPB Mobile Shell 3.5

I've been doing custom ROM's for years. I just got a replacement Fuze because mine had the oily rectangle under the digitizer.
Totally stock 6.1 phone with ATT 5.11.00.00 ROM.
I said...."what the heck...I'll go see if the SPB Mobile Shell has improved"
Absolutely gorgeous. I disable TF3D and run the SPB MS 3.5 and it is pure SWEETNESS!
For anyone that is afraid to flash their phone...this is a great option!
For all you diehard ROMMERS you need to give this thing a look. SPB MS 3.5 is MUCH improved from version 3.
You may find out that there is no need to use a custom ROM when you see this in operation.
Very fast and very intuitive. You can master all the features in an hour or so.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I'm using it with Timolol's ROM and it's working good. There are two issues however - I had to delete PositionFix shortcut from Windows/Startup in order to SPB MS display properly. Second problem is conflict between SPB MS and Rhodium dialer - if SPB MS is active, you cannot access call history and contacts from Rhodium dialer.
i used SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 until the trial period, might buy it but waiting if the fuze owners will get an official release of winmo 6.5.
I'm using SPB MobileShell 3.4 on SSK 2 ROM - works great
I haven't noticed battery drain running 3.5 on Scott Crosler's SSK from this may. Really love the new interface. Can't think of much they could change at this point being long time user of versions 2 and 3.
I really liked the 3.5.
I was using it on my WinMo 6.1 Touch Pro.
But there was a huge battery drain and every time I used the S2U locking program and Inesoft Calendar, I always got tskmgr.exe, calnot.exe, and replog.exe errors.
I gave up on it.
I may try again when there's an update, but probably not.
It would have been nice to have been able to keep it.

I wondered that myself, actually. Left the phone on my desk at 90%. Bluetooth off; wireless off; any email-pushing/pulling off. Within 30 minutes, it was at 50%. I hadn't even used it. Since I've removed it completely and using the stock HTC/Sprint thing, I'm back to being able to go all day, talking, pushing, pulling, bluetoothing, without having to charge the battery.
the new 3.5 is fabulous! Normal battery drain for me but I have been running shell for the past 3 versions. Maybe because I am using a clean (no HTC mods) and with Titanium turned off the drain is fairly low. Only 14% reduction in 9 hours of use.
Things they could add to the next version:
Ability to add more than one city to the weather app.
Slide Show option for the picture frame widget.
Skins, skins, skins...
My phone has been unplugged for nearly 24 hours. It's at 71%.
I am currently running NRG's 23016 ROM. TF3D is disabled.
The 23071 and later based 6.5 ROM's move the Start menu to the bottom. This conflicts with SPB MS 3.5's buttons on some pages. Anyone have a fix? Thanks!
I contacted SPB to see if they have a media player with album art in the works. I'll let you know the answer as soon as I get it.

running into the same thing, hope that NRG continues with the 21864 ROMS cuz i love spb... you using mskip's mods as well? very essential...
also u may want to update that signature
FIXED!!!!!!!!
Use Total Commander or File Explorer and goto your \Windows\StartUp folder.
Do you have a link called "ShowcaseSuite.lnk" ?
You can click it from Total Commander and it will give a message that says "e-Natives Suite has been Terminated".
Go back to SPB MS 3.5 and BANG!!!! Da' ***** is gone. SWEET!!!
You can delete the link from your \Windows\StartUp folder and then it won't come back(It is cooked into NRG's ROM).
Now you can use the SPB launcher. Extra SWEET!!!!!!!
I have a problem with notifications when using SPB MS3.5
When a notification pops up, lie an alarm, or new SMS, the notification popup itself is hidden, and the only way to display it is clicking on the top bar, selecting the notification icon and then it's displayed, along with the softkeys.
Anyone has a solution for this? I want the notifications to be displayed on top of the MS3.5 window...
Thanks!
MS3.5 works well with WM6.5.1

I have used MS3.5 with RRE ROMS, Exquisite 3.5 and Timolol 23081. Works just fine.

The overlay of the WM6.5 taskbar on MS3.5 is probably because a version of Showcase by amarullz is installed or burned into your ROM. Deleting startup links to either PositionFix.lnk or ShowcaseSuite.lnk to terminate Showcase is a drastic measure...but I used to do it as well until I discovered the following:
If you want to prevent the WM6.5 taskbar from overlaying the MS3.5 home screen, try the following registry edit (depending upon which version of Showcase is burned into your ROM).
Look for the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\e-Natives Technology.
If you have a folder named WM65xFix, you have an early version of Showcase_X. Open the folder...you should have a key called "WindowClasses" that has "Manila;RESCO_EXPLORER_CLASS" as the text value. DELETE the text "Manila;" (and add "RESCO_REGISTRY_CLASS" separted by a semi-colon if you use Resco Registry Editor). Soft Reset. This should take care of the overlay problem.
If you have a folder named Showcase you have the latest version called "ShowcaseSuite". Open the folder...you should have a key called "SUITE_PositionFix_WinClasses" that has a text value of "Manila;RESCO_EXPLORER_CLASS". Delete the text "Manila" and the semi-colon. (Add the value for Resco Registry Editor as above if you use the program) Soft Reset. This should take care of the overlay! NOTE: If you want the "X" icon to CLOSE the program rather than minimize, change the dword value of the key "SUITE_CloseOnTap" to the value of number 1.
Finally, if you have the older version of Showcase_X burned into your ROM and want to upgrade to ShowcaseSuite, terminate Showcase_X as described by nimrocket. Reboot. Use Remove Programs (if you can) to uninstall e-Natives Showcase. Reboot. Install ShowcaseSuite. Make registry edits.
If you don't see Showcase in your uninstall list, again terminate by removing PositionFix.lnk from your startup folder. Reboot. Re-Install Showcase_X available from here (same as link above). Use Remove Programs to uninstall. Reboot. Install ShowcaseSuite. Make registry edits.
HTH!!!
[edit] Added two .cab files as attachments. If you aren't comfortable making registry edits, use ONE of the attached .cab files depending upon which version of Showcase you have installed.
Use the WM65xFix.cab if you have the older Showcase_X installed. Use Showcase.cab if you have ShowcaseSuite installed. [/edit]
Thanks for the registry info.
Personally I couldn't see why I would want another task manager running at all when SPB has a very nice one built in that is every bit as finger friendly as Showcases.
Deleting the Showcase link doesn't cause any grief and is much easier if you don't plan on using the redundant Showcase tools. But if you want Showcase then the regedit may be for you.

You are right...and Showcase is not without a few issues (that don't affect you when you use MS3.5 and the 3D email viewer) I use Showcase because I also use Resco programs. WM6.5.1 changes the layout of the screen because of the "thinner" top bar. This causes programs such as Resco File Explorer to not display properly. I also like ShowcaseSuite because I can use it to make the "X" button terminate programs rather than minimize...so far it's the only WM6.5 tool I know that can accomplish this, but hopefully others will be developed now that WM6.5 is official!
