Would it be possible (in the future..) to use TMC on TomTom using this device and a rom update?
Thanx!
John
Does anybody use Destinator or TT with TMC in US? I'm wondering if TMC is even possible on Kaiser.. not sure how the traffic updates work.

You would need some form of addon TMC FM receiver similar to the Garmin inline version for its dedicated GPS units.
Only other way of receiving TMC reports is via your data connection (3G,GPRS) as in Gamin XT.
So there's software that allows to emulated a hardware TMC thingy and gets traffic info from the web?
Let me clarify my question... I have iGo 2006 (gps software), and it's trying to get TMC updates from hardware (asking for a COM port). I do have unlimited data.. so I need something that will grab traffic info from the web and give it to iGo.

Yeah, Garmin pulls it from the Garmin webserver.
Hmmm, its asking for a COM port? I wonder if iGo either sell an addon receiver or have plans to in the future. Unless this is a generic package designed for Pocket PC's and its a function that is unavailable on Windows Mobile.
I'm trying to set up traffic on igo 8 and TMC search returned negative results. Does anyone know if Kaiser supports TMC?
.....And yes I have searched the forum for this.

No, Kaiser doesn't have an FM tuner or interweb capability. And yes this has been answered before here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2211591&postcount=12

Thanks for the speedy response.
that being said is there an alternative that anyone know on how to configure traffic with Igo8 or to automatically reroute if im using google or something in the background.
You can use TMC with IGO but it would require you to get at bluetooth TMC receiver och a bluetooth GPS with integrated TMC but the ones I´ve found are quite expensive and not easy to find.
oh ok thanks cause i still been searching all over the net for one.
From another thread in the Kaiser accessories forum:

If you are in the UK, don't forget TMC is a paid service... unlike the rest of the world.
Okay I emailed the people over at GNS about the bluetooth TMC Transmitter that plugs into a cars lighter plug.
This is what I asked...
When will the GNS TrafficBoxplus FM9BT-C be available for sale, and is it compatible with the HTC Kaiser (AT&T Tilt), Igo 8 and TMC signals in the USA?
Thanks.
This was the reply I recieved.
Dear Mr. Gerado,
thank you for your inquiry. The ramp up time for production of the GNS TrafficBoxplus FM9BT-C will be in the end of october 2008. The GNS TrafficBoxPlus FM9BT is compaible with HTC Kaiser and works also with iGO8 (manual configuration). The GNS TMC receivers support the TMC service in the USA. But it depends on the navigation software (maps), if the received USA TMC data can decoded and used in the navigation software.
Best regards
Gerd Sept
So it looks like in November or so I will be ordering me another "toy" as my wife called my gadget pr0n..

It has an FM receiver with RDS decoder but not the TMC hardware. I have tried to but the radio on and then starting IGO and searching for the TMC receiver but it doesn't find one. So no possibility for it.
Thanks marco 899.
Does you have any suggestion about a good bluetooth TMC receiver i could use with igo 8 and htc diamond ?
Bah! That seems a bit stupid. If its got a GPS unit and an FM radio they might as well include the TMC bit as well. Or they could have at least used a GPS chipset that includes the TMC stuff.

It's all about licenses. TMC needs a license from GNS. That's why leadtek stopped producing gps receivers with builtin TMC.
I only put my original head phone on usb port and I found a TMC with diamond via IGO's automatic finder. It's fine but the reception of TMC's chanels doesnt work. I think that it is possible to do a bridge between FM radios ...

There is no need for TMC Hardware. TMC is done by some special RDS-Messages. Diamond is able to receive RDS 'cause it will show up the name of current station. So it will receive RDS-TMC, too.
You only need a software that will get the tmc messages and decode them to, lets say, opentmc and that's all.
are there some examples for an openTMC software?
If it turns out that waiting for the software TMC support takes too long I have an alternative proposal:
- it would be possible to buy a TMC receiver for a mere ~$100 and
- log the TMC messages in country. All of them.
- start a website
- write a program that periodically downloads the content of the website via 3G
- and feed a COM port that Igo or other navigation programs can read.
As far as I know (please correct me if you know an existing solution) there is no such site online.
How does it sound?
i have read this thread for Diamond and then i have found this other thread for Blackstone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511838

Thanks dibbutz for bringing this to my attention.
It does work on the Touch Diamond, better than the TMC on the £1,000 Garmin in my Volvo.
There are three things that you ought to be aware of.
1) You need the headphones plugged in to act as a aerial.
2) It only works with a good signal, don’t expect it to work indoors without fiddling with the aerial.
3) The HyperGPS program remains working even when the program is closed. The only way to unload it is to do a soft reset. (Could have battery implications).
Internal TMC on Diamond is possible !!!
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512630
It works !
Hi,
Does anybody knows about TMC in touch Diomond?
It has built-in FM Radio, so it looks that maybe it can receive the TMC messages.
Regards
PiotrWu
No, it can't...
