I haven't found any answers so I've decided to "ask the audience".
To my understanding the Rogers Canada network uses 850/1900 for it's 3G primarily 850. Is this true?
I haven't found a mention of a North American release date for the GSM Diamond. Anyone know the date? I don't expect it till around Christmas.
I'm looking at an Australian Diamond that uses the 850/2100 bands for 3G. Will the support of the 850 band be enough to function on the Rogers network or does the phone have to support both bands for 3G to function on the network?
only gsm 850 works on my diamond. i think its 1900 for 3g
I have an European Diamond which works on the rogers network but I get GSM/EDGE but to my horror no 3G
Looking around only on a few sites can I find any mention of what works and what doesn't the closest information I could find is from this link:

and they go back and forth so I'm not sure what to believe and I don't think I want to buy another Diamond just to find it won't work either.

Can anyone confirm or deny and of this?

I have the Australian version (850/2100 MHz) and it supports the Telstra 3G Network. Can't see why it wouldn't work on other 850/2100 MHz 3G network.
To my understanding the Canadian Rogers network is a 850/1900 network.
Does the phone need to support both bands or will one suffice?

I had an EU/Asia Diam and I never manage to get 3G connection. Sold the phone and bought a Rogers branded diam and by default I see 3G connection all the time on the top network status. But now I'm thinking of going back to an EU/Asia version unless I can flash my Rogers branded diam with a better ROM.

Is there a version of the diamond that will get 3g with att us ?(850mhz band) I have seen the update that gives the 850 band but I was told it isnt for the 3g. I really want a diamond but not having 3g is gonna be a real deal breaker for me.

really? I just read where the fcc just passed the us version of the diamond for the 850 band on hsdpa. Anyone else can confirm they are getting 3g with there diamond in the us?

No I did not, I have the UK version. The Australian version isn't available for another few weeks.
no it is out now but only in certain telstra stores...

I know I'm on the 850MHz band as that's what Telstra NextG uses (with HSDPA). As I said above, radio version is 1.00.25.05 and ROM is WWE 1.93.405.1. All this info is in my signature as well.

I just got my Diamond Touch today and it came with the

O/S: CE 5.2.19965 (Build 19965.1.2.3)
I'm only getting (E)dge on AT&T
No (G) or (H)
My upgraded TILT/TYN II connects to G3 and H at my location here in Los Angeles.
I hope someone figures out a way to get at least a G3 and 850Mhz radio.
Does it just need to be unlocked ??

In another thread somone posted that Telstra uses 850mhz for its 3g network and 2100mhz for its joint 3g venture with 3. I'd be happy though if they used 850/900mhz for 3g in the uk though
I am totally confused here, Everything that I have read says that there is no way that the diamond's that are currently out there has the 850 band hsdpa. No software update is suppose to give it the hsdpa band because it lacks the HARDWARE. I know that the gprs band of 850 is able, is it possible that you are connecting to some other band of 3g in your area? I really wanna buy a diamond but I dont wanna be stuck with this phone and not be able to use 3g in my area (us) PLEASE SOMEONE ELSE SHED SOME LIGHT HERE. There are people in this thread that say it dont work and then there are people that are saying it does, thanks for any help
Not true. It's not a hardware issue, it's radio issue.
After you get the diamond and flash that radio there is a setting to change the band. I don't remember it though T.T
can someone confirm that i can use the diamond on us 3g band (850) by just a new radio and setting?
She's probably getting the 2100mhz HSDPA band in AUS unless she's edited the radio, the phone is only capable of 900/2100mhz HSDPA right now. Here's the killer... The Touch Pro just passed FCC... And no HSDPA/UMTS/WCDMA whatsoever. No 3G.

hoping you can give some advice here, I'm currently with vodafone Australia and looking at buying a diamond.
Currently they are available locally as the Telstra HTC touch diamond (competing network) or via grey import models.
I understand through numerous threads that there is no quad band model as yet and that telstra uses 3g on the 850mhz band, i think but am not sure that vodafone uses 2100mhz for 3g.
I'm confused as to which handset im better off with the telstra one or a grey import.
To make it more confusing I'm going to USA and Sth America, shortly and want to make sure it roams on 3g.

After scouring the rest of the 'net it appears that;
telstra uses 850mhz hsdpa,
vodafone and optus uses 2100mhz umts,
optus will launch 900mhz hsdpa in the near future.
I gather from this that no matter which australian carrier network i use i will not be able to use one carrier or another does someone have any further insight on this?
I think I read on Whirlpool that the Telstra handsets should work on any network - except Optus' 900mhz.
Im with Telstra (work sim), so just went with the Telstra handset.

I guess my real issue is that I want to make sure I'm getting the highest possible data speeds in whatever country I'm in and I'm not sure what difference there is between the carrier frequency's being used. I get the general impression that only telstra has 7.2mps (theoretical) speed at present, but if i go with a handset that doesnt support 900mhz and i end up with 2100mhz am i missing out on vodafone hsdpa......

I was in the same boat when trying to figure out which Diamond to get. I jumped ship and ordered a DIAM130 (Telstra ver.).
Its my understanding that the Optus 900MHz UMTS will be for use in regional areas, whereas 2100MHz for metropolitan. A quick search of the net also indicated that 2100MHz is the dominant UMTS band throughout most of the world, with the exception of the U.S. which uses 850/1900 I believe. So I figure the DIAM130 would be the best bet if you want some sort of 3G connection whatever country you may be in.
If I'm mistaken, can someone please correct me...
EDIT: Looking back at your posts, I'm not sure if you realise this, but the DIAM100 is 900/2100 MHz UMTS and the DIAM130 is 850/2100 MHz UMTS.
Yep, I think the Helstra one with 850mhz/2100mhz looks like the best bet. It would seem that all the carriers in Oz use the 2100mhz in the cities and 850mhz or 900mhz in rural areas.
The US and Sth.America seem to use 850mhz and Europe uses 900mhz/2100mhz.
The whole reason this came up was about 2 weeks ago I went into a Helstra shop and HTC had a marquis with their own staff, they actually stated do not buy a Helstra handset wait until October 1 when the other networks will have quadband handsets. I put this down to them not knowing what they were talking about.
I cant wait any longer though and I think I'm off to JB HiFi to pickup a telstra one, whirlpool forum users have been picking them up for between $750 and $800.
I bought my Diamond from JB (telstra phone bought outright) and I use it with voda prepaid.
I can access the GSM network fine and their 3G network as well. But I force my phone to use GSM only, apparently 3G drinks more battery power.
I am on the vodaphone network ( work). I bought a diamond from a H/K supplier & have never had anytrouble using the 3g network in any of the main capital cities.
Unless you intend to use 3g A LOT in the country areas of australia, then a presumably cheaper grey import DIA 100 will do the trick.
only would suggest that you upgrade to one of the great ROMS available on this site from the generous chefs!
sorry but i think telstra are ripping off the aussie customers with the 130 model.

noticed your'e using an older radio version than whats currently available.
at the risk of telling you to suck eggs, i would suggest you try the 1.00.25.08 Radio rom as the increase in signal phone strength & GPS strength was unbelievable!

2100 MHz Optus, Vodafone, Three, Telstra(use Three's) - DIAM100, DIAM110, DIAM200, DIAM300, DIAM130
ALL Diamonds have the 2100MHz frequency!

I have a grey import DIAM100 running on Three and it has not missed a beat.

sorry to disappoint, I used to think the same, but see this and this You are right - it uses HSDPA, but only on the 2100 network, outside of that network the phone will show "E" for "edge" .(which is GPRS).

I suspect the Telstra branding and web interface can lead you to believe you are on the Telstra NextG network, regardless of whether you are connecting with a phone capable of 850MHz or 2100MHz. My DIAM100 (Same hardware) on 3 behaves exactly as you describe when it roams onto Telstra GSM displaying "E" for "edge".

well i just went for it, and bought the diam130. ive gone the hardspl, radio 05, swift rom. all seems to working.
got if for $760 outright at jb hifi pitt st mall sydney store. no stress haggle said to the guy whats the best price he said $800 i said how about $760 he goes "done".

correct. The DIAM130 on Next G will show a 3G icon whenever it is on 850 Mhz, occasionally this icon changes to "H" HSDPA when a data connection is active.

Well, for one, the phone gets a HSDPA signal in Mandurah - where there is no 3 coverage (only ever get Telstra roaming there if you're with 3). Also, as others have said, if you are on 3's network, the network shows up as "3Telstra", which it does not on mine.
I am not sure if this was posted before, maybe I missed it when searching, but are there any specific settings that I need to tweak to make the Diamond US 3G version work with T-Mobile's 3G network.

^^^2nd. Can't be done, this phone will never work on T-Mobile's 3G network.
I just confirmed with T-Mobile that in order to use 3G on their network you will need to have AWS 1700 AND 2100. This phone will definitely work with AT&T!
My friend has a unbranded X1, but don't know if can be compatible for the 3G network in Canada or USA? Anyone knows? Or North American ROM needs to be flashed on to enable 3G compatibility with the Carriers in North American??

This is a very vexed issue. Please read the thread on 850Mhz 3G connection.
The short answer is:
1) "unbranded X1" is irrelevant. Use Start>Settings>System>Device ID to find the actual device version, ie. X1i or X1a
2) if your friend is lucky and the Device ID is X1a, then the device is capable of connection to the US/Aus/S America/S Africa 850Mhz 3G band
3) if the Device ID is X1i, then no such luck. This is a hardware issue, not firmware
Both will connect to the 2100Mhz UMTS band which is commonly used in cities, so if your friend never ventures outside cities the X1i should work OK for 3G
I have a question on this, when SE 1st released info about X1, they mentioned that it's Quand band GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS/3G 850, 900, 1900, 2100. Why when they released it, they had to make 2 versions to support different networks? I think that this is stupid, they can do that for branded phones but not for SE unbraded phones, exactly like HTC and the HD, Diamond and Pro. We pay a lot of money for these for so at least give us full functionality... especially that these phones are more of business phones, so it's expected that people travel with these phones....or am i wrong about that?

yeah that would be great to know.. Im in LA and i was looking to get one. I know that ATT 3G works both 850 and 1900, but depending on where you are there's one band stronger than the other.

Please read and search before asking...
You answer is HERE (google search, first link displayed for "wikipedia rogers 3G": the band has always been there waiting for you to read it under "Services": Rogers 3G 850MHz) so you need the X1a, the X1i won't pick that band

I'm also on ATT in Colorado (Windsor/Ft. Collins area) and get 3G almost all the time. I've been all over the state and have got 3G service just about everywhere, only rolling over to Edge from time to time.
Oh and I've got an X1i.

yeah, I don't get any 3G in canada with my X1i.
I live in Vancouver BC, always in Edge.
I have had an occurence once, but only once! =[
I get HSDPA in the Dallas\Ft. Worth Area, and in Lawton, OK. Everywhere else I go I'm on Edge. And this is with a X1a on ATT.

Nobody in the US uses 2100MHz, AFAIK, and I'm pretty sure Canada follows the same frequencies.
1900, on the other hand, is supported by the X1i, which is used by AT&T, Rogers, and Bell.
The downside is that if you're unfortunate enough to use T-Mobile, the network uses 850MHz only, and you're stuck with EDGE.

i'm not for sure, but, i don't believe you will. if i recall, T-Mo USA uses the 1700/2100 bands. by the way, which HD model do you have: the T8282 or the T8285?

so have you tried your phone with a T-Mo 3G sim? i recall reading that T-Mo must grant 3G access to 3G subscribers (certainly could have misinterpreted what i read). it's my understanding that both the T8285 and T8282 models have active 2100 bands. this being the case, you'd think one could at least get 3G service on the 2100 band.
