I can't seem to find the FM radio in my new Telus diamond. Is it there and just no program or did Telus completely remove it? If it is still there, any suggestions how I might access it?
Thanks
telus stripped the FM radio..
A Little Off Topic
I have had a Telus HTC Diamond for 7 days and the battery sucks.
According to HTC, the device heats up normally and the battery does not last as long as Touch.
On my Touch with a Seidio 1500 m amp battery, I could have EVDO connection (and bluetooth) on and download/have Exchange push on for 8 hours and my battery would be at 30%, with Diamond, I turn EVDO connection on 4 times over 8 hours (Bluetooth on as well) and my battery is pretty much at 0.
According to Telus, should exchange, I have another friend that agrees the battery is normal to last so short of time, does anyone else with CDMA Diamond have much better battery experience.
I am considering returning device.

Actually, Telus only removed the software used to play the radio. Install the latest ROM from Juicy and you'll get the radio! It actually works VERY well! It supports RDS data streams from the radio station, manual tuning, auto tuning, scan, presets, headset and speaker out, and all the other goodies you'd expect from a decent FM tuner.

Hi. Has anyone got any experience for which radio they like best in UK on Orange?
My priorities are as follows...
1) Half decent phone / internet reception
2) Quick GPS lock
3) Good battery life (this is still fairly important!)
Thanks... if you have any pointers that would be great / save me the work!
Drunken thanks in advance...
James
look in the ultimate radio thread.
I don't think there's that level of detail on here to find it out. I'm using 1.65.24.36 gps is quick. phone is very good including great speaker phone mic pickup which was crap with my old radio (it was a 1.27 one from official vodafone rom).
I'm not sure how it stands up to battery. It depends how much you use it...
with 3g on (HSPDA enabled) constantly it's below 9 hours.
Would love to know how other orange uk users get on.
FYI I think the radio in the new official 6.1 rom is 1.65.16.25.
Also I used 1.64.08.21 which is supposed to be a good one in general but my phone vibrated to death.

I've since tried the 1.71.09.01. very good reception but complaints of battery drain. I didn't use it long enough to find out about the drain. I've also tried radio from the new official rom which is actually 1.65.16.25. seems ok so far. slightly worse reception than others and this might be an indicator that battery life is good
I am about to buy a Rogers Diamond. Having owned 2 different Windows Mobile phones from them, I know they probably managed to limit the heck out of their Diamond so I was wondering if anyone that has a Rogers Diamond could tell me (us?) if they decided to limit software installation, GPS, internet etc etc.
If so, is there a fix?
If there's no english one I'll get the french one. Any flashing to standard english ROM possible right now?
Thanks in advance, can't wait!

PS: Gecko is coming soon, hopefully before Christmas!
well i got mine today, few board members got it as welll before me.
I haven't played too much with the phone yet, but up to now they dont seem like they played too much with it...
if you want to know:
ROM Version: 1.93.631.8 WWE
Radio Version: 1.00.25.06
ram: 192mb
flash size: 256mb
you can flash to anything you want as long as you HARD-SPL your phone, causing it to SuperCID.
You don't really have to worry about backing up your rom because you can find it here, a board member already got it for us to play around with.

No. Memory. Card.
What the heck? I had a 4GB one anyway, but it makes testing apps and transferring music so fast!
Rogers Diamond
I got my Rogers branded HTC Diamond yesterday and so far it'll let me install any apps I want. Internet works through wifi and 3G. I can't find a way to turn off 3G connection. GPS works but acquiring sat lock takes like 5mins compared to my old EU/Asia Diamond which locks to sat in 30sec.
ROGERS 3G
Just want to share this. But I'm pretty sure this has been tackled in the forums already.
Rogers branded HTC Diamond doesn't have the option to turn of 3G through band selection. I found this registry hack to enable band selection and now I can turn 3G off.
Rogers default registry - OFF
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:0
Registry tweak to enable band changes
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:1
Now you can go to >start>settings>phone>band tab and change band settings to your choice. I switched mine to just use GSM instead of auto which always connects on 3G.

I'm having issue with gps sat lock taking so long and I suspect this radio version is the culprit. I might unlock and flash the radio on my phone. I've been reading this forum religiously for past 6 days now trying to understand how to unlock and flash my phone. The more I read the more I get confused.
I have the same radio but am not having any problem acquiring satellite lock. By the way, this radio is already posted in the radio thread at the top of the Rom Development forum.. so I don't know why someone said it was not seen before.
I hope someone can find or make a backup for the first splash screen (Rogers red, VGA). We have backups for the OS, SPL, and radio so far.
Hi, why do you want to disable 3G? I thought it was a benefit?

I know. It's just that sometimes I would select something which needs internet connection (ex; quickgps) accidentally and it will try to connect through 3G. My friend got billed by Rogers a hefty $3000++ for internet connection which he never used because he thinks he accidentally run internet in his phone and unknowingly left it. I like the option of enabling 3G only when I need it. Plus I read from this forum that 3G connection is one of the battery killers of Diamond.

I'm using iGO8 and on my now sold EU/Asia Diamond it worked pretty well. Now with the Rogers branded HTC Diamond it takes like somewhere from 3-5 mins to lock to a sat. It sees the satellites but just wouldn't lock to them. My old diam got 1.00.25.05 radio in it and I'm thinking of flashing my phone with the same radio but keeping the Rogers ROM since there not that bad and as quick and stable as some cooked ROMs out there.

$3000?? But I thought they max out the data plan at $100 if you go over. I'm on my first month so I haven't seen my first bill yet, but apparently I have used up a lot of voice call minutes even though I hardly used the phone to call!!! I leave my data on all the time so that I can check email every half hour.

I don't know. He doesn't have any data plan with rogers just voice so I guess he is like pay as you go for 3G.
And just like me with my old iPAQ PDA phone I get billed for data usage every now and then for something I've never used. The most I got was 40 bucks. Didn't bother complaining since my time getting on hold by customer service is worth more than $40.

Hi, I am about to buy the rogers diamond. Since GPS is my must have function in a smart phone, could you tell me what gps application is used in your diamond?
Do you know if iguidance 3.0 works in rogers diamond?
Thanks
FYI
I am using Tomtom 7.91 on Diamond, it has about 2-3 seconds lag, very annoying
I'm using iGO8. So far great that is if it locks to a sat signal. Nothing wrong with iGo8 but I think it the radio version that came with Rogers branded diam.
hpod06: when you say 2-3 sec lag, do mean that your position on the gps is 2-3 sec late from actual. If so then same here. And same with my other iPAQ gps phone. So I think it's not the gps apps thats causing this delay but the gps chip used by phone. Well the lag doesn't really bother me since gps apps announces your next maneuver before hand. Just need to get use to it.

I'm using Radio 1.00.25.08 on Roger's in Toronto...been quite happy with it's performance.
ROM v: 1.93.831.1 WWE
HTC Touch Diamond P3700
Avoid rogers diamond!
I had to exchange rogers diamond to iphone even though I am always not a apple fan.
For whatever reason, the performance of rogers diamond is unacceptable. i.e. Multiple applications running concurrently would just hang the system. It's like a single thread system
I called the customer service, and the customer service manager didn't explicitly deny the problem when i pointed out, which imply this could be a common issue to the rogers diamond. As I have been reading all the diamond review, bad performance seems a always an issue. Some said, it's being significantly improved after upgrading to the new firmware, but at least this is not the case on rogers diamond. Regardless the underlying reason, i highly doubt rogers did a real integration test on diamond!!
dear all...
i deceided a few weeks ago to change from nokia to the htc touch diamond. a friend of mine has an htc touch hd and i really liked it. the touch display was my favorit. i don't like apple products, so the iphone was never an option, also i don't like samsung products (mobile ones) because i had a samsung mobile and had a lot of troubles with it.
well... since i have the touch diamond, i also have troubles with it. in the first three days i wasn't able to phone -> the phone hangs up and if i tried to dial a number no one can hear me and i didn't hear the one i called. i gave it back to the shop for repair -> after two weeks i got it back and was told there was an software problem and it is now fixed. ok... well it was fixed, but new problems were upcoming. first of all the battery -> it's not possible to pass a day from morning to the late evening with charging the diamond only once... first i thought this is my biggest problem but then i revealed that an other bigger problem exists which actually effects my job. i'm not reachable because my mobile losts connectivity as soon as it goes to standby. when i activate it over the power button it searches for an gsm signal but it doesn't find one. it doesn't matter if i'm in my flat or if i stand with the mobile near to the radio mast. it only helps if i turn the phone function off and on.
my friend told me about the opportunity that this forum exists where people working on developing roms and other nice features for various mobiles and i should take a look at it. well.... i registered here, read the howtos and guides and flashing bibles and tried nearly all available roms here to improve the behaviours of my diamond, but i don't succeed, well this is the time, where i capitulate and ask for help... my provider can't help me... they said that the mobile is not so often sold and they don't hear anything about customer complaints...
info about my acutal-configuration:
mobile: htc touch diamond
spl: 1.9.30-OliNex HSPL
rom: 2.07.Gen.Y GER
radio: 1.09.25.23 (htc because mobile is still security locked)
protocoll version: 52.51.25.26H
provider: A1 mobilkom www.a1.net
location: EU/AT/VIENNA
can anyone give me suggestions what to do?
can anyone help me to make my diamond a mobilephone it should be or give me an advice what i can do?
i also think about resetting the phone to factory defaults (at the moment i'm searching for a guide) and give the handy back and pay the upgrade price for the touch hd... my friend doesn't have any problem with it and i don't know any other way out of this situation... at the moment i have a multimedia device with wich i can't phone and couldn't be reached which in my opinion is absolutly not acceptable.
kind regards
unlock it and use bsb rom
losing GSM signal when the phone is on standby? I'm just making a guess here, but I believe you might have a problem with the ROM and or just only the radio. unlock it and flash a new ROM and or a radio to see if it works
as for battery life, the Diamond battery is very bad, and the radio you use is directly related to the battery life, some radio sucks battery out dry pretty quickly, but normally, this phone requires a charge once per day
I just noticed my Tom Tom only tracks 8 satellites anymore, and I read somewhere else that a guy thought that the number of satellites the phone tracks is a function of what radio you are running.
ie: the newer radios don't track 12 satellites anymore.
Why do I care? Well, I've found that I can't get a fix as well in low-signal areas as I used to be able to.
I'm running Radio 1.79.09.01.
Newer radios intending to reduce battery consumption

Where'd you get that radio from, the latest I've seen are 1.70.xx.xx and the 1.71 eMO radio? It seems as if over time HTC has reduced the power supplied to the GPS circuitry with newer radios. In many locations (such as where I live) this is false economy because then the GPS has to work overtime to actually get a lock and maintain it, often with sluggish/intermittent results. I think their intention was to extend battery life but it's a bit like saying we'll introduce a fuel flow limiting valve onto a car to improve economy. It may work OK in ideal situations such as on the flat but give it a hard work scenario like a hill (or areas of the planet with lower overhead Navstar satellite density) and it just falls apart not getting enough fuel (or in this case power) to do it's work properly. I've tried 1.71 and 1.70 series radios with HTC original WWE WM 6.1 ROMs and found the GPS performance poor compared to the 1.27.12.32 version I currently use on my WM 6.0 ROM. Unfortunately this radio won't work with a WM 6.1 ROM so you have a choice to make.
My bad, that was a typo... I'm running 1.71.09.01 for a radio.
Thanks for the info. I've been thinking all along that they have been dialing back on actual talking capabilities of the radio in favor of internet/data capabilities. I remember my phone holding a call much better when I got it than it does now. That is, I drive a lot and I'm on the phone a lot, and this phone drops calls all over the place where it didn't used to.
Its come to the point that I use my MPx for important phone calls while on the road, because it doesn't drop nearly as much as the Kaiser does, and it gets better signal for longer in remote areas. Kinda sad that a 5-year old phone is a better phone than what we've got now.
Anyone have any other info on the changes in radios as it effects satellite, data, and phone reception? Obviously I started this mainly about the satellite reception, but now I'm curious.

Glad that my points have been helpful although I've gotta say my experience doesn't substantiate your claims regarding voice call reliability - it only relates to GPS performance changes. It wouldn't surprise me if they'd cut back on general radio transmission power because that seemed their intention as far as GPS was concerned. It's really not something I can comment on as voice calls/reception was acceptable for me with the WM 6.1 ROMs as well as my current WM 6.0 setup.
I wish I had my own underground radio lab! I'd crank up GPS, voice, and data, battery be damned.
I hear ya on the GPS stuff... I went searching and didn't find anyone else asking the same kind of questions though.
I have an cooked ROM since over three months and there where
never any problems with it, but the fast emptiness of the batt, but I have an allways full charged replacement batt and two dockingstations with extra batt loader.
But my device is getting hot the last two days... but not the batt, I think its the CPU inside.
I first uninstalled everthing unnecessery, then made a soft reset and now a hard reset, without installing anything new, but again its getting hot.
What could be the Problem?
Attached the screenshots of the device and ROM Informations.
The Rom I use allways worked fine, till before two days it began to heat the device.
I like my Touch Diamond, I got used to it, it would be a pity buying a nother one, also because I dont have the money for.
Please if you have any suggesttions, help me.
Yours cincerly,
Robert
Try changing your radio.
Good Luck!
Could it be your GPS and/or WiFi is on, and the Diamond is constantly looking for a signal/connection?
Radio / Wifi / BT
Hi,

Only Phone is on and it conects to 3G when starting Browser.
But also with "EVERTGING" OFF" it heats the device.

Hi,
thnaks for the link!

Funny what???

Does not solve the heat problem
I did install the new radio as suggessted,
made a hard reset also,
but device is also getting hot.
Any iDeas what else i could be?

Which is the part that's heating too much ( Eg. Lower back !! )
Which oart heats...
Backwards down under the battery, where the IM Card is insertet.
Seems to be a defect. On charging the dvice discharges... It seems to to like this.
Yours,
Robert
Addition:
If no SIM is insertet and no USB Cable is connected it doens not heat
Strange:
Usually heating is because of the following reasons -
1. Your GPS/Wifi is on
2. You're running Android
3. You're running too many applications
Check all this first.
If negative then it will be something with the radio.
Keep trying different radios ( although be careful not to flash a 2G radio onto a 3G one )
If this too fails , its something with the chip.
FYI , heating is kinda normal for all the diamonds , mine does heat sometimes but i dont take it as a big issue.
Try different radios . if that doesnt work then its a chip problem. My diamond too heats like crazy but im used to it now.
