Im thinking this because many people who were early adopters with the UK/Euro HTC Diamonds are frustrated with a battery that lasts little more than 12 hours, some people (if they dont push email) a day. Others, particularly those who had the later Diamonds (inc the operator branded ones) are reporting 1.5 - 2 days of usage.
If this is a real problem the HTC should have a recall on their hands. Im hesitant to send mine back (First UK batch) though, even though mine lasts little more than 10-12 hours while pushing email.
What do people think the faults are, the hardware, the ROM or the battery itself?
My Touch Diamond lasts for barely a day, which is amazingly irritating, I've heard most people go on about them getting 2 days, which is what I would have expected considering my old HTC Wizard could get 3 days if you pushed it.
I have a strange battery- li-ion polymer - is there any issue with that? I had a Diamond from first generation , I bought another one , I sold the first but I kept first battery (li-ion polymer). The second one had li-ion battery.
i think it is down to how you use the phone.
i can get 3 days easy if i dont use it alot but i can
also kill it in a day sometimes if im busy.
I think it's all about a one-time calibration. Many notice an increase in lifetime of a battery charge after some use. I made the same observation.
Since I installed a new Hard-SPL, a new radio and a new ROM the battery meter falls rapidly with even the smallest use. I think (hope) that once I discharge the battery nearly to 0% the meter knows how much charge the battery really can hold.
I read somewhere that it's quite impossible to determine the exact charge level of a Li-Ion battery if it's constantly charged und discharged a bit as measurement gets off more and more with each incident.

No doubt... Yesterday I ran down a portable PC battery from 100% (think it was about 1.5 hours of use). At 0% it kept going for 30 minutes (!!!) before starting to flicker and shut down.

i sent my diamond to the repair center because my battery last only 10 hour without using the phone....in Idle mode, with only the phone on, bt,gps, wifi off.
I hope htc recognize some hardware fault....
the repair center is slow.....about 1 month of waiting..
I think the battery just generally sucks, mine isn't a first batch i don't think (purchased + recieved on T-mobile (MDA Compact IV) a week ago) and i still get poor battery life!
mine lasts about 2/3days
im a light user...don't really bash the phone
but im in hong kong in a couple of weeks
will treat myself to a beter battery while im there
got mine yesterday, and yeah, the battery is horrible
i hope it will improve with a bit of time... i'm still going to add tweaks, and probably flash it too

well the newer ROM's are generally much better than the older ones, so if your diamond shipped with an old ROM you may see a considerable improvement.
kolbac Im waiting for your response considering you are the first one, who actually send the phone back. Im also considering this. Im havin 10-12 hours standby aswell. First EU batch. bought in june.
I did send my Diamond back, although for another matter but battery-live was poor too. The new one I recieved back is what I expected in the first place: stable operation and a battery-live of at least two days, most of the time even longer.

Hi, don't know if in your country take the diamond to a repair center is fast and simple.
Here in italy is a pain in the a**.
There is only one authorized center in all the country and that is in milan, and you have 2 choices:
ship by yourself the phone to the "contact center in milan" or take the phone to a repair center near you and then they have to ship to milan.
So u spend alot of time in this chains and you don't have a direct contact with the technicians.
plus now there was the summer holidays so the workflow is slow.
For sure with only 10-12 hour of standby the diamond isn't usable for me so in my opinion you should take it to a repair center.

i have started experiencing problems with my hima in that it shuts down now at around 20% battery automatically. didnt have this problem before. it started happening one day after i flashed a new rom. im using the same programs i used before. the only things that have changed are its gotten really cold now(could that affect the battery performance?) and i flashed the rom from a different pc than i usually use. any1 make anything out of this?
This has been a problem since WM6..its common..try using different Radio roms and search around the forum for more info
i was using wm6 before this started happening... there were no problems then. and i didnt flash the radio rom when i upgraded either. its the same radio. its like one day the phone decided it would stop working at 20% :S
i once saw the battery @ 3% on wm6... and it was still working...

That's the ideal situation and it fortunately still works this way for me.
Which ROM and which radio version are you currently running and which ROM did work till 3%?
i was using c_shekhars 7.0b rom at the time n i flashed 7.0c after that. this problem didnt start immediately after installing 7.0c but after quite a long time(many recharge cycles later). I have never upgraded radio rom ever since i got the device n its 1.10.00. Just flashed one of sonblacks roms from pdaviet.net and its going fine till yet. I hope the problems gone although havent had a chance to let the battery drain yet.
Thanks, this is the most detailed report of what actually happened in this subject that I've seen so far. And it looks ike proof of what I already expected: that it's not part of the logic in any given ROM but more likely a symptom of a slowly dying battery. If it would have anything to do with the ROM, it should happen to all with identical devices and all directly after burning the ROM.
It is however true that WM5 and WM6 are more battery hungry than WM2003 and it's likely that these operating systems respond more critical to battery problems. Together that would indeed mean that you'd notice battery problems much earlier. So if battery life is your primary concern it's likely that going back to WM2003 would lengthen both your battery life and the time you can use it per charge.
I can't find exact reports on the production period of the Himalaya, some say the first ones were spotted as early as 1999 (probably mistaken device identity) and I'm sure that I haven't seen them in the shops from late 2004.
This type of LiIon battery probably has an average lifespan of 300 full cycles so indeed the first unlucky ones should drop out by now. If that happens to you right after flashing a ROM it comes natural to blame the ROM.
Beware! I've seen at least one report of someone who bought a "new" battery that performed even worse than the one that came with his Hima. LiIon batteries have a long, but still limited shelf life when not charged regularly. And I personally noticed when buying camera batteries that quality does have a price tag, buy from reliable sources, read return policy.
I'm currently studying if there is a way to bring down WM6 battery drain but can't make any promises if I'll ever succeed.
One last point: I once thought that the sudden burst of energy consumption that flashing a ROM is could be the culprit, but abandoned that thought. So far none of the developers and ROM cooks in these forums, who all regularly flash, reported battery problems that I'm aware of. Now I tend to believe that most of them charge so regularly and hardly ever discharge to the limit that this behaviour actually increases battery life.
I agree it must have something to do with the battery dying. Ive just set my device to stay on with bluetooth enabled and audio files playing. battery is at 28% right now. i hope it doesn't die at 20%.
nope it didnt keep on going. died at 20% so i guess no turning back for the battery now. will have to try and keep it fully charged all the time :S anyone know how much a new battery costs?

it wouldn't hurt to try radio 1.17 and you still can see how long it lasts in its current condition. These batteries are widely available on Ebay, from very cheap up to very expensive triple sized with extra extended back cover. See for yourself if you trust an ebay seller or if you prefer to shop locally with ebay prices in the back of your mind.
Beware, original HTC batteries are relatively rare on Ebay, if the offer doesn't say "original" be sure it's a clone.
I once bought bad clone batteries for a camera, they came with "3 year guarantee" but the seller disappeared in less than a year.
ok can i upgrade the radio without changing or affecting the rom n all my saved files etc? would it change anything in the OS? i most probably wont be buying stuff off ebay coz might be too expensive.. wat with all the shipping costs etc amounting to almost the same as the batteries cost. you said once a guy bought a new battery with worse performance. is there any way to check battery performance at the time of buying(ie any softwares)?
..
Hi,
I'm using Tofclock WM6 and radio 1.17 - works well and the PDA shuts down somewhere around 3 % !
So long
HonkBB
most of the regular people on this forum use radio 1.17 and none of them has so far reported battery problems.
It doesn't prove anything, I've never seen a red car with a flat tyre (true) but I still can't conclude that red cars for some mysterious reason never have flat tyres. There even might be some causal explanation:
-psychology of ppl buying red cars
-I see a lot less red cars than blue, black, white, metalic
-more women than men drive red cars, women are perhaps more careful about buying fresh tyres in time.
Conclusion, it never hurts to try
do i have to hard reset my device after flashing the radio?
From my experience its the battery.
With my previous battery, my hima was shutting down at 20-30% and i couldnt switch on the machine until i charge it.
I bought a new battery , I've experience using my himalaya to 1%, and it can still turn on.

what you discovered is called in science:
ILLUSORY CORRELATION
Maybe, you're right - but we don't have enough statistics to prove if there is really no correlation between radio rom and the battery problem. So lets carry out a poll with users using WM6 and the different radio roms ... then we get exact values
so long
HonkBB
I'm not a noob in science but I intentionally try to avoid terms like illusory correlation.
A poll doesn't make much sense in this forum, look at n (=number of replies) in other polls.
It does not make sense that battery life in WM6 is much weaker than the 2003 since it is on Flash (persistant storage) and hence the ROM is not functioning most of the time which per my understanding is the cause of battery draining. Hence with the WM6 the battery life should be the same as 2003 if not better right?

That sounds very logical. You should also expect that WM6 would be much smarter in power management than WM2003, based on the 3 years of extra development time. But it's just not what WM5 and WM6 users experience. Nobody so far reported in these forums to have experienced better battery life than with WM2003. Several people reported drain problems. It quacks like a duck, it walks, swims, flies like a duck, it looks like a duck but logic tells us that we should call it a dog?
No, there is a "logical" explanation, from MS developers point of view. You can read all about it on
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/08/01/446240.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/08/03/447404.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/08/10/450186.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/08/11/450591.aspx
So the main culprit seems to be the unattended mode. Fits like a glove to my personal experience:
-testing my device, navigation software on, all connections (BT, IR, GPRS, GSM) on, backlight 100%, constantly recalculating routes, it almost takes me 4 hours to go from 100% battery to totally flat.
-accidentally leaving some animated tasks open in the background, unattended mode while I thought it was suspended (asleep, standby, what's in a name) drained my battery once in about one hour!
But there somehow is another culprit as well. I have no idea what it is but even after a clean reboot my device stays alive almost 4 days on 2003 and "only" 3 days on WM6. I don't care, after draining in WM2003 I need to restore a backup while WM6 allows me to leave it on backup battery in a drawer for a couple of weeks without dropping a single bit.
I wish I knew a way to tell WM6 to use as much power while sustained on battery pack as it uses on backup battery.
Hi all, i've got an HTC Elfin.
My friend wants to exchange my Elfin with his Diamond (and some cash).
Of course i'd be interested, the only thing that makes me unsure is the diamond's battery...
I heard that it isn't very durable and on pdadb i've seen that it's only 900mA, against the 1300mA of mine.
Is this really a problem? How long does your battery work?

My Diamond lasted threw the 10 hour work day when it was new not so much anymore tho. how ever I have 2 email accounts set up as "as items arrive", weather updates every 30min, twitter updates every 30min, facebook... and so on... so lots of data being used which kills the batt.
Lol my battery are Very ****ing durable
Ehh.... My Battery can last like 3-5 Days if u got tha right Rom(Custom Os) and Right Settings it all should be very nice and my diamond is soon like 3-5 months old if i were u in that situation i would do it
I have the stock from verizon, my battery dies in about 4-6 hours of standbye. 4 if i talk any or use the Instant messenger.
I hate my diamond, if i had not paid so much for it, i would junk it and buy...anything.
my old Diamond would get a solid day or two. Sometimes 3 if i didn't use it to much.
Custom ROMs definitely improve battery life, and it is simple to unlock and flash a rom to the phone, much easier than on this Evo4g lol.
I now have all the radios turned off and the phone in airplane mode. A full charge, lasted me close to 3 weeks. I simply let my son play with it and it keeps him entertained swiping the screens and everything.
Have had my Diamond for about 6 months now and using energyrom. I get about a day and bit on a full charge. If I do a few conversations and get on a wifi a few times, I will need to charge before the end of the day. Not the greatest battery but that's what car chargers are for!
Hey guys,
I bought Galaxy S on Oct 2. In various threads I have seen people say they get 1-3 days on 3G with some gaming and all day active data connections.
In bangalore we have only EDGE(2G) and I use my phone only for calling(15-30mins) and texting(25-30) with some minimal Facebook access....I allow my battery to charge all night and start my day around 8:30 in the morning and my battery doesn't even last till midnight....its somewhere around 20% at night.
is this normal or should I visit the Samsung service center ?
Also can somebody suggest me a good site which ships additional batteries to bangalore ?. I tried spider-foot.com and their shipment has reached me even after 20 days.....
I'm currently in Bangalore too. But my SGS's battery life is most certainly worse than yours... Beginning to wonder if this is a local issue ?
Same issue here.. Blame the Network Quality in India?
Even i faced the issue initially.after one month i find it okay. May be i am consoling myself.
I never felt the advantage of having 1500mah battery.
God bless sgs users
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
when i was in india, i was a heavy SGS user and i did get through the day on a single charge.
i had push updates on for gmail, exchange mail, twitter and facebook. #i never logged in to gtalk though.
half an hour of calls and a lot of browsing....
so from 8 to 6, i would still have close to 40% battery remaining....
The battery on the SGS has some calibration issues or I dont really know, there are times I get good battery life and times I lose 1% per hour of idle, sometimes I reboot my phone I either lose or gain anywhere from 15-30%.. pretty random.. But with 2.1 I had a constant battery life though.
my biggest fear is that now with 3G being rolled out this one day wonder will become a one hour wonder
Come on guys....we pay 28K and dont even get a freaking day of juice!!!
Whats the use a superb device with no power......should have bought the N8 instead.....

Since updating my HD7 to 7392 the battery is dead at 8pm despite me hardly using the phone at all.
Previously, even with lots of use I never got to the critical warning before plugging it in at 11pm.
Sick of this WP7 **** now. Phone still 16 bit colour as well.
Phone is o2 UK but debranded using petbede's method, then official NoDo and official 7392 installed over the top.
Didn't regret not getting the iPhone 4 for a few months but I'm starting to now.
So no-one else affected?
Well, I'm now restoring back to 7390. If this doesn't fix it I'm gonna get rid of this damn phone and god knows what I'll end up with.
Has anyone noticed trade in values for the HD7 have gone to ****? I'll be lucky to end up back where I started on an iPhone 3G.
Have you bothered to recondition your battery? As in charge it full, drain it all the way, then recharge.
If so, contact HTC for a replacement battery. The 7392 was only security patches, nothing is related to battery life.
But if you are too lazy to do that, go ahead. Have fun with your new/old IPhone 3G.
Ive noticed my battery dies alot quicker now to but I totally forgot that I updated my phone until now.lol

Thanks but it's literally gone since I did the update. Previously it would last me the whole day.
I'll try a few sets of charging and draining, but it will be interesting to see what happens now that I've rolled it back to 7390.
I understood it to be the same as you, 7392 is just a security update. But something about the process of installing updates seems to cause battery issues.
I really don't want to go back to an iPhone as when I use my wife's 3GS it seems very dated compared to WP7. But I'm sick of the hassle of WP7 at the moment!

no such issues..... how do u test the screen for 16 bit... my screen looks crisp and hd still...
I noticed this last night.
I charged it fully before going to work at 8pm then time it came to 12:30 i had used over 3/4 of the battery just by web surfing and sending 8 sms.
Mine is a o2 HD7 but running the euro htc rom, i always let it run out and recharge to full.
Im thinking more and more of binning WP7 just a shame my device has afew knocks to it otherwise it would be trade in. Looks like its heading to the back of the draw.

Exactly the same as me, I'm running the unbranded euro HTC rom too.
Did your battery problems start after installing 7392?
One of the reasons I bought into WP7 was the hope of getting the updates and things improving. Never considered the possibility that updates could make things worse.
Ive only been running the update for a week and the battery wasnt that gr8 before hand but last night opened my eyes to how bad since this patch.
I would do a hard reset and see if that helps but as MS left out a way to back-up SMS im a little stuck.
How ever im feeling that wp7 is all its cracked up to be, looking at whats coming in mango is good but i feel the battery may suffer.
Since downgrading back to 7390 my battery life has returned to normal!
Hammered the phone with a good hour or calls today and even now the battery is not dead, it will last till going on charge at bed time.
What the hell is going on with 7392 then!?!

No just downgraded via standard Zune option.
Just saw this update for my phone out and then saw this thread. Are others having the issue with the battery? I will gladly hold off on this update if it really does drain it that much.
Any other confirmations?
I can't imagine the Security update causes this, perhaps a new Radio is downloaded with the update?
I'm on Unbranded Euro ROM and the same OS version 7.0.7392.0 with Radio Software 5.54.09.21_22.33b.50.10U, can someone post their Radio from OS Version 7390?
P.S. I haven't actually noticed any Battery drain since the update. I cahrge every night from about 11pm - 7am and my phone will last untill I put it on charge again at the same times.

I just uptaded, I will post results tomorrow
battery
First day experience of mine,Battery is dead after 7392 update 15 minute talk 20 sms in 7 hours!I am going to downgrade tonight back previus Rom!
Yeah, I feel this thing too,
The battery are more faster draining than old in my HD7 (O2DE Rom).
Just play few game for a hour and my battery is lower than 20%.
I'm in the same boat...
After the update, not only is my battery draining faster, but my reception actually seems worse (subjective).
I hope we can find out why and get a fix for this sharpish as it's driving me nuts having to carry my charger around with me (quite a heavy user)...
So does anybody who's rolled/rolling back fancy posting their Radio versions to compare?

Just purchased one from Newpower. Seems OK - I haven't installed it yet as it is to be a standby in case it is needed. Yes it is expensive and beware - there will be import duty and tax to pay on top. I had to pay approx $28.00 more for this in the UK. Bill Kelly seems to be the owner/boss at Newpower who does the voice in their excellent video on their site and DVD provided with battery. Following my initial enquiry to express my doubts as to the quality etc he e'mailed to say that the battery comes to USA (Dallas) and is 3rd party, manufactured in Orient, and he needed my business (ordered only one battery).
Anyway the battery is marked Cameron Sine Technology - so try to see if you can buy it for considerably less from elsewhere. Where else would provide a special opening device / tool least likely to cause damage.
I noticed that the link to aliexpress indicates that the "genuine" battery was no longer available between 24 to 27 February when I checked. Send an e'mail to Bill Kelly and ask about shipment to Pakistan - it was not listed in the shipment list when you pretend to purchase for some reason.
I found 3 suppliers on eBay from Hong Kong, Wisconsin USA and Bischofswerda Germany with wildly varying prices and no doubt trustworthiness.

eBay replacement..
Hi ya'll... As most of you been experiencing, I have been having a lot of battery issues.
The battery levels drops in big dumps... Charge takes too long ( overnight for full charge) but doesn't last more than 3hrs... Charges too quickly (less than an hour) but also dies out within 30mins. When charge gets below 25% screen starts flickering and then it continuely reboots!
Anyways I finally decided to get a new battery, I went with eBay seller "Fashcover" item as it was $30AUD shipped and it also had all the tools required (actually had a lot more than needed). So after 2 weeks I finally received it, it only takes 10-15mins to replace the battery.
Pretty much all the markings are similar, the electric connecting wires are of different color combinations & it's 1-2mm smaller than OEM in width!
So far I've been able to use it for 4hrs straight, still have 30% remaining... Atleast now the battery slowly goes down instead of the jumps! But still battery life isn't anywhere near iPad minis!
Battery doesn't last long on 100% charge, it drops to 99% within a minute or 2 of disconnecting from charger..
You guys with the 8.4" seem to have quite a few problem compared to the 10.5" version, like display quality and now battery issues, or is it just a lot more people with the 8.4" or something.
And as far as i have read, after charge the battery dropping from 100% to 99% when the charger is unplugged or shortly after is normal so dont worry.
Below is a battery recalibration guide, for some of you it sounds like the battery is really faulty and needs replacing, it`s a shame you have to pay for it when it`s still in warranty.
John.
You can calibrate the battery like this before you decide to buy a new one
Fully charge the battery with the phone on and when the phone is fully charged, unplug the charger and turn it off.
When your phone is off, plug it into the charger and let it charge to 100% again. The green LED light will indicate when this is done.
Next unplug the charger, turn on your phone and set the option to ensure that your screen doesn’t turn off, if you have this option. Then reconnect to the charger and wait for it to charge again to 100%.
Once charged to 100%, unplug the charger again and do not charge until the smartphone turns itself off after reaching a 0% battery level. Once off, fully charge it again and it should work properly. The screen setting can put back to normal again (meaning turn off after a certain amount of time).
phones with oled displays should not show static images for a long time as it can cause burn-in

this is the issue with almost all the tabs. people dont really accept it but this issue is there. there might be few exceptions but overall, the battery life SUCKS steel balls covered with goo and horse **** with toppings of slime and pig ****.
i have had enough issues with this ****ty tablet. i so loved this tablet that i spent almost twice its price on just repairs. but it was not meant for me may be. i had to sell it in scrap.
i have already warned people about its battery. there is a reason people get iPads when they want tablets. i have never owned one, but i have used one. and yes Android tablets, especially Samsung tablets SUCK!
my advice would be to sell it off ASAP, and instead get something else. you will face more issues, i can promise you that at least in battery life. rest its your choice.

its not that there are many people with 8.4, it might be, because of its smaller size but its not entirely the case. the truth is the battery in this tablet used by samsung is of worst quality even when compared to their lower end tablets. this was supposed to be Samsung's FLAGSHIP tablet but they ruined it with battery.
& yes 100 to 99 when u plug it out, thats understandable, but how can anyone explain a brand new, out of the box tablet, go from 99% to 63% in JUST SETTING UP THE TABLET WHICH TAKES LIKE LITERALLY 3 MINUTES???
"THAT'S" the issue people were facing.
and this is the reason you will not see samsung marketing it anymore now. even on their youtube channel. even samsung knows it was a full flop.
i personally know, 3 people other than myself who got this tablet. and all, including myself, had this issue. and NO we all didnt get these from same seller or even same country. and they were of different batch.
I always wondered if company's send b-grade products to country's with not the best consumer protection for faulty goods.
And 99% to 63% in 3 minutes is not normal, but it is possible that the tablet just needs the battery calibrating and there are a few guides out there, if the battery is still bad after that then return it or get it repaired.

I got one off ebay. It was not as wide as the stock battery but it plugged up and I have had no issues since! Getting around 6-7 hours SOT with web browsing and watching videos. With games, I get about 4 hours sot. Hope this helps.

No issues with battery on 10.5 inch. Not sure why. only the 8.4 models seem affected by battery.

When it`s $70/£45for an T800 10.5" battery with tool-kit, or i can get a splurge for removing the back cover for £1 and a replacement battery for £8.40, which would you choose.
