whats up guys?
I seem to be having a problem updating my rom
I have tried numerous ROMs from the site, but for some reason it always gives me a error when I attempt to download it.
Has anyone heard of this problem or can hand me any advice?
Thanks A lot
-Chris
What's up 2 u.
Have you read the Wiki or any of the stickies? If not, before you go any further, and make a paperweight of you device, you may want to read a little. You can't just slap a new ROM on there. You first need to prepare the phone. Lucky for you your device failed instead of breaking. Seems the phone is smarter than the owner.
"...the phone is smarter than the owner"
there is no need to be condescending, a simple answer leading me to the right direction would have sufficed.
I would thank you for your help, but I cant thank a person with a attitude as demeaning as yours....now my advice to you would be to grow up.
ciao

i got the same replies for some of the "senior members" on here, it's normal.
You say, you get an error while "downloading?!". do you mean, downloading the roms from the mirrors or an error while flashing the rom. If it's during the update, what error exactly?
I flashed my phone the first time last tuesday (NoThrill Rom, Hardspl, new radio) with the help of the wiki. To save you the work searching the wiki pages
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserROM_FlashingFAQ
1.) How to backup your old Rom for warranty return http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1586817
or download the right rom here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs
2.)Read through the HardSPL threads (if you don't understand it, read several times) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions? and choose the right HardSPL version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
(Searching for JumpSPL?? it's in the attachment of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061 )
3.) Read through the rom flashing process http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserIntroductionToROM_Flashing
4.) choose a rom here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Cooked_ROMs or from the rom developement board in the forum and flash it
5.) Check if you need a new radio (read through the thread for your rom) if you experience any problems
This is how i've done it. Took me about 5 or 6 hours for everything. If you have any problems with the flashing, all problems are known and there are threads about it
Good Luck with your phone.
Hey, thanks a lot.
Its a communication error during the update.
You have been really helpful with those links, I appreciate the time you took to reply.
have a good day.

The link's on that Thread are dead. They dont work anymore ***. Lol
Can't we all just get along? Let's keep things nice-nice, okay?
Anyhow, chaos36 it's really important to read up on this site before posting. All the answers are readily available (with some time and patience).
Here's a quick guideline ...
1. Your first stop should be here (the wiki)
All the information and links to get the most out of your device
2. How to SIM unlock your phone, look here.
3. How to flash any ROM other than your carrier's, here
4. Enjoy!
But just a bit of friendly advice for you in the future. Read and search all you can, then if you can't find what you're looking for, read and search some more before posting.
This site is a great place for developers, hobbyists, and enthusiasts. It's not a "helpdesk". But as long as you help yourself first, you'll find a lot of great (nice) people that will help you along your way.
Good luck and have fun!

Alright, this is a good example (one that we've all seen over and over again here) of how not to jump into flashing your phone without reading everything thoroughly.
Stay in the bootloader screen, keep your USB cord plugged in and reflash your original carrier's ROM. That will get you back to factory specs.
Then, don't try flashing anything else UNTIL you read everything I mentioned in the previous post first, at least a couple times through.
Just some advice

Ok i got a cingular 8125. So to download it i go to Cingualr.com?...Sorry for being so noob and do you got AIm will be much easier for you to help me there ty.
I'm actually about to hit the sack. But you can get the Cingular ROM here. Just download and install it and you'll be good.

Taurus pretty much held your hand and walked you thru it. You should be fine after this point. And if some of the links arent working, just let some of the mods now and they will take care of all that stuff. So good luck with the flashing.

I have watch videos...read instruction etc, etc, all I could on ATT Tilt/Kaiser flashing...I still don't have a clue. Do I do some type of CID unlock 1st....then is there a Jump SPL and than a Hard SPL. Is any of them two done from the boot loader screen. I can fix most electronics but I don't understand.. no you-tube video...i saw it on flashing the kaiser....sound quality bad for the hard of hearing (me).
Goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
Download Jump SPL and Run it. Then the hard-spl. This will then allow you to flash the custom ROMs on your Kaiser.
Regards,
Carty..
I just went through this a few days ago trying to flash my first custom rom. I have to agree it is incredibly confusing and contradicting, which is why I'm taking the time to post this. Just read as much as you can about it and don't try to flash the rom until you understand. I am no expert on this by any means, but this is what i did on my tilt to flash HardSPL. I tried to make this as simple as possible just so you see the exact steps I went through, but i highly recommend reading the thread linked in the previous post by Carty above and the other link I'm posting at the very end.
1. download JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061.
2. get the hardSPL version you need for your rom. I used v3.56 from the link Carty gave you in the post above, because the rom I am using was based on the official att 6.1 rom. You may need a different one for the rom you want to flash I don't know too much about this yet. Leave the folder where you unzipped the hardspl files open on your desktop so you wont have to look for it later.
3. connect your phone to the PC, and transfer JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe over to your phone with activesync. Remove your microsd card if you have one on your phone (very important).
4.run JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe on your phone, it should go to a bootloader mode with the tricolor screen and underneath it will say USB.
5.Unplug the phone from the PC, wait about 5-10 seconds and plug it back in. Activesync should NOT be able to recognize your phone. If it does, something went wrong so start over.
6. Finally you can run the KaiserCustomRUU.exe from the hardSPL folder on your pc desktop and follow the instructions. It will load the HardSPL on your phone.
7. if you want to make sure it loaded, shut down your device and when your are turning it on press both the power and camera button at the same time, it will go into bootloader mode and show you what SPL is on your device. mine says SPL-3.56.Hard after I loaded the hardspl. You are now ready to flash a new rom.
This wiki helped me the most:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
Read as much of it as you can, especially the "SPL questions?" link, that was the most useful for me.
I hope this helps
All good advice! I just loaded the HardSPL on my phone for the first time and it worked perfectly.
Now all i need is a work connection that doesnt block my attempts to download ROM's!!!!!!

Unfortunately this is the Kaiser forum and you will get even less help here.
Post your questions in the Diamond forum and people will help, when and if they are able. And in the meantime, read and search and try to figure it out for yourself, All the steps and instructions are there.
Sometimes people, unfortunately, mistake this site for the HTC free support line, with 12 techs waiting at their PC's to help. Then they get irritated that no one answers their requests for help on a timely basis . If people won't or can't answer your questions then you need to figure it out on your own.
The bottom line is, if you don't know what you are doing, then you shouldn't be messing around with your phone. Sorry

And what I said was that this was the Kaiser forums and not the Diamond forums. Putting Kaiser Spl's on a Diamond will brick your phone faster than throwing it into a bucket of water. So I gave him a link to the Diamond forum and Diamond Security/CID/Sim unlocker.
How is your question related to the Kaiser forums ?
Will it work on my TP/Excalibur? No as phones have different hardware to which is why h-spl's are device specific.
The best way to help yourself and not get a brick "expensive paperweight" is to head to device subforum and do some reading, as last thing you want is to be creating a thread named "Help"

Since I cannot find anything helpful in Diamond forum, I dig around in other forums to try to rescue my phone and make it usable.
Which is a recipe for diasaster...seriously, if you are gonna do something as stupid as to try to make something SPECIFICALLY for another device work on yours, then you do not deserve to own a Diamond.
Hi. I flashes a signed-spl to my phone via update.zip, now the phone will not load in recovery, nor bootloader mode.
I have place a working .nbh (for BL mode)
and a working update.zip (for rec. mode) on my miniSD
if somebody could please assist me in getting this thing running again, that would be great. thanks!
I have exactly the same problem. Can anybody help?
Which spl did you flash......original, engineering, hard, or haykuro (danger)?
Please tell me you didn't flash the danger spl without installing the latest radio first....

No offense big guy but just downloading and flashing something that you had no idea about probably wasn't the best idea. Where did you get this mysterious SPL from? Perhaps we can help you trace it that way. It sounds as though you bricked though since you have little to offer in the way of retracing your steps so we can help you. What guide did you follow, what radio did you have?
What made you figure that an SPL upgrade would fix your force close error? Did you research any of this?
Yea just like what DirectMatrix said "What would make you think the spl would solve a FC issue".

well i know that the SPLs allow installation of unfamiliar ROMs and allow them to work.. i did this before with a different one and it did the trick. that is why i repeated this process.
To be perfectly honest, this SPL was in my downloads folder and had worked before.. so i flashed it. I have attached the SPL so maybe somebody can check this out? I appolagize for my newbess and impulsiveness lol.
And i believe the radio was NOT v2 =[ i know thats bad..

Yea thats the same spl I have on my pc that is the "danger" spl. Yep if you flashed that without having the newest radio then you are bricked my friend. And spl has nothing to do with allowing installation of unfamiliar roms. What that spl does is free up more space on our phones to be able to install the hero roms which are larger.
The md5sum of the SPL you posted is the same as Haykuro's danger SPL. What's quite worrying is that you had a 1.5 ROM but not the 1.5 radio, if you had the new radio you would not have bricked. I wouldn't be surprised if you had a few dropped calls on 1.5 ;-P You didn't read, flashed something you didn't know about and bricked. My sympathy for you = nil.
new thread idea
I was thinking on my drive home, maybe we should just start a thread titled
TO EVERYONE: FLASH THE RADIO BEFORE YOU FLASH THE DANGER SPL FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME!!!!!!
Just start the thread, have it stickied, and have it closed before anyone can post anything in it. Then people wouldn't even have to open a thread, they can just navigate to a forum and have it slap them in the face. Then of course the next logical step is just to start a forum with the same title, then all they have to do is get to the website.....the sad part is people will still brick..
My sympathy for Mr/Mrs. oraeanast ended quickly when I read:

Dude, you gotta calm down a little and try to understand where we're coming from. MODS, I know this is off topic but I feel I have to get this off my chest...>big breath<
[RANT]There are literally hundreds of places within this forum that tell you to flash the radio before the SPL. There are notes and warnings all over the ROM threads, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of posts regarding:
n00b: "I think I bricked"
person trying to help: "can you get into recovery"
n00b: "no, I was trying to flash the new SPL so I could get Hero"
person trying to help: "did you install the radio first"
n00b: "oh no, what's that"
Not to mention you, yourself, mention in your first few posts that you didn't know what it was, you just figured you'd flash it because you thought it would help with some kind of force close. When you do something like that, n00b or not, you are gonna take some flaming from the forum. Sorry this is just how these things work. There are thousands of people on these forums that spend weeks reading before they do anything to their phone, and there are just as many who read for 20 minutes and just start doing things. The very nature of a open forum of this type makes it difficult to have organized data. Everyone seems to understand that but some are unwilling to put in the time necessary to gather all the proper resources and data. Unfortunately, you seem like one of these poor people.[/RANT]
My only comfort to you now is go here and give your phone a proper burial....

My sentiments exactly... You've BRICKED your phone, not had a small glitch that we can fix. Its called brick for a reason because your phone is now only useful as a BRICK! Its not reversible at this time, nor would I suspect it to be reversible in the near future. Next time, read, read, read, read, read... and then read some more before you try to flash some mystery signed-spl.zip that you found on your computer...
yea i made the same mistake a few months back your fones at a better place now...No more updates, no more wipes or backups just ~peace~

Ok im new here and i don't really understand much about whats in these forums like 'flash' and 'hardSPL' i have no clue what all this stuff means so could someone please explain it to i would appreciste it so much.
to flash - means to copy a new rom (Read Only Memory) to the read-only part of the phone.
When flashing to the phone the phone checks for the security signature of the new rom, since no-one can re-produce this security signature, hardSPL bypases this check to allow un-signed roms to be flashed to the phone.
All these answers are already in the forum mate, i was in the same boat as you 2 months back..... get reading , and use the search function.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/ is a great resource as well.
Thanks Guys now i can finally start understanding thanks
Hi,
I'm new to forums so apologies if I sound inexperienced!! I've got an HTC touch HD that I got from the carphone warehouse in the UK (connected to o2). It's currently got windows 6.1 but I'm wondering if it's possible to install 6.5 on it. HTC are telling me no but I've heard others have done it.
If it's possible can someone direct me to the download file and explain what I need to do to complete the install?
Many thanks

Install HSPL (up) and instal rom. There are many here. Sorry for my English I do not know good English. It is not difficult when I was able too.
It is possible, read the sticky threads, they will point you in the right direction.
But be aware you lose your warranty with WM6.5 on there. Just make sure you read up and understand before taking the plunge And welcome to the forum.

The warranty-thing is not really true: if you don't read the steps etc, and your phone gets bricked (just software), HTC will not replace it for you.
This is where you need to start. Read this Guide carefully and then read it again for good measure. If you have any further specific questions then ask them in that thread and you'll get helped.
I have tried to downloade an ROM.
When its start to load the hole thing just stop. It stands on 0% for longe time to i unplug the USB.
I have tried everything.

Post your problems in the Dummies Guide thread please. You'll get help there as this one will probably be closed soon. Please also give more details of the errors, ie what error code you get and whether you have used uspl or hspl.
As above, please post in relevant thread and myself or someone else will assist you. ClydeB1 has already provided link to thread.
