Stuck on g1 screen - can't boot recovery, no bootloader - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I flashes a signed-spl to my phone via update.zip, now the phone will not load in recovery, nor bootloader mode.
I have place a working .nbh (for BL mode)
and a working update.zip (for rec. mode) on my miniSD
if somebody could please assist me in getting this thing running again, that would be great. thanks!

I have exactly the same problem. Can anybody help?

Which spl did you flash......original, engineering, hard, or haykuro (danger)?
Please tell me you didn't flash the danger spl without installing the latest radio first....

Sounds like you got an expensive paperweight!

Time for a new phone

i flashed spl-signed
whatever that is.. my phone was giving me a android.process.aboot (OR SOMETHING LIEK THAT) with an option to force close it only. I figured the SPL would help this situation.

No offense big guy but just downloading and flashing something that you had no idea about probably wasn't the best idea. Where did you get this mysterious SPL from? Perhaps we can help you trace it that way. It sounds as though you bricked though since you have little to offer in the way of retracing your steps so we can help you. What guide did you follow, what radio did you have?
What made you figure that an SPL upgrade would fix your force close error? Did you research any of this?

Yea just like what DirectMatrix said "What would make you think the spl would solve a FC issue".

well i know that the SPLs allow installation of unfamiliar ROMs and allow them to work.. i did this before with a different one and it did the trick. that is why i repeated this process.
To be perfectly honest, this SPL was in my downloads folder and had worked before.. so i flashed it. I have attached the SPL so maybe somebody can check this out? I appolagize for my newbess and impulsiveness lol.
And i believe the radio was NOT v2 =[ i know thats bad..
THE ROM I FLASHED THIS ON TOP OF WAS JFV1.51_CRB43-ADP

The only SPL I have in my SPL folder that is that same file size is the haykuro danger SPL, so if you didn't update to the latest radio (2.22.19.26I) then I'm sorry to tell you, YOUR BRICKED!

Yea thats the same spl I have on my pc that is the "danger" spl. Yep if you flashed that without having the newest radio then you are bricked my friend. And spl has nothing to do with allowing installation of unfamiliar roms. What that spl does is free up more space on our phones to be able to install the hero roms which are larger.

The md5sum of the SPL you posted is the same as Haykuro's danger SPL. What's quite worrying is that you had a 1.5 ROM but not the 1.5 radio, if you had the new radio you would not have bricked. I wouldn't be surprised if you had a few dropped calls on 1.5 ;-P You didn't read, flashed something you didn't know about and bricked. My sympathy for you = nil.

new thread idea
I was thinking on my drive home, maybe we should just start a thread titled
TO EVERYONE: FLASH THE RADIO BEFORE YOU FLASH THE DANGER SPL FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME!!!!!!
Just start the thread, have it stickied, and have it closed before anyone can post anything in it. Then people wouldn't even have to open a thread, they can just navigate to a forum and have it slap them in the face. Then of course the next logical step is just to start a forum with the same title, then all they have to do is get to the website.....the sad part is people will still brick..
My sympathy for Mr/Mrs. oraeanast ended quickly when I read:

Dude, you gotta calm down a little and try to understand where we're coming from. MODS, I know this is off topic but I feel I have to get this off my chest...>big breath<
[RANT]There are literally hundreds of places within this forum that tell you to flash the radio before the SPL. There are notes and warnings all over the ROM threads, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of posts regarding:
n00b: "I think I bricked"
person trying to help: "can you get into recovery"
n00b: "no, I was trying to flash the new SPL so I could get Hero"
person trying to help: "did you install the radio first"
n00b: "oh no, what's that"
Not to mention you, yourself, mention in your first few posts that you didn't know what it was, you just figured you'd flash it because you thought it would help with some kind of force close. When you do something like that, n00b or not, you are gonna take some flaming from the forum. Sorry this is just how these things work. There are thousands of people on these forums that spend weeks reading before they do anything to their phone, and there are just as many who read for 20 minutes and just start doing things. The very nature of a open forum of this type makes it difficult to have organized data. Everyone seems to understand that but some are unwilling to put in the time necessary to gather all the proper resources and data. Unfortunately, you seem like one of these poor people.[/RANT]
My only comfort to you now is go here and give your phone a proper burial....

My sentiments exactly... You've BRICKED your phone, not had a small glitch that we can fix. Its called brick for a reason because your phone is now only useful as a BRICK! Its not reversible at this time, nor would I suspect it to be reversible in the near future. Next time, read, read, read, read, read... and then read some more before you try to flash some mystery signed-spl.zip that you found on your computer...

yea i made the same mistake a few months back your fones at a better place now...No more updates, no more wipes or backups just ~peace~
would like to thank DirectMatrix for directing him to my **Obituaries** thread

damn - there is a wiki
there is a Noobguide....
there is a thread called "How to flash HRAD-SPL....
and 1000 threadds more with INFORMATION!!!!
Please read and then ask.
Because when you don´t even know how to find out what Hard-SPL is then stay away from flashing. Because it is dangorous and could brick your device!!!
Thanks...

Quite frankly, since I have success flashing via USPL/nbh method, I doubt I'll ever even think about the hard-spl way of life, simply because I really don't want to fark anything up and brick me tele-phono.
And he's right. If you aren't able to figure out on your own something that's explained about 100 times, you need to keep reading before you consider trying to hard spl your device, or even flash a new rom.

totally confused....about JUMP-SPL and HARD-SPL

I have watch videos...read instruction etc, etc, all I could on ATT Tilt/Kaiser flashing...I still don't have a clue. Do I do some type of CID unlock 1st....then is there a Jump SPL and than a Hard SPL. Is any of them two done from the boot loader screen. I can fix most electronics but I don't understand.. no you-tube video...i saw it on flashing the kaiser....sound quality bad for the hard of hearing (me).

Download Jump SPL and Run it. Then the hard-spl. This will then allow you to flash the custom ROMs on your Kaiser.
Regards,
Carty..
I just went through this a few days ago trying to flash my first custom rom. I have to agree it is incredibly confusing and contradicting, which is why I'm taking the time to post this. Just read as much as you can about it and don't try to flash the rom until you understand. I am no expert on this by any means, but this is what i did on my tilt to flash HardSPL. I tried to make this as simple as possible just so you see the exact steps I went through, but i highly recommend reading the thread linked in the previous post by Carty above and the other link I'm posting at the very end.
1. download JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061.
2. get the hardSPL version you need for your rom. I used v3.56 from the link Carty gave you in the post above, because the rom I am using was based on the official att 6.1 rom. You may need a different one for the rom you want to flash I don't know too much about this yet. Leave the folder where you unzipped the hardspl files open on your desktop so you wont have to look for it later.
3. connect your phone to the PC, and transfer JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe over to your phone with activesync. Remove your microsd card if you have one on your phone (very important).
4.run JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe on your phone, it should go to a bootloader mode with the tricolor screen and underneath it will say USB.
5.Unplug the phone from the PC, wait about 5-10 seconds and plug it back in. Activesync should NOT be able to recognize your phone. If it does, something went wrong so start over.
6. Finally you can run the KaiserCustomRUU.exe from the hardSPL folder on your pc desktop and follow the instructions. It will load the HardSPL on your phone.
7. if you want to make sure it loaded, shut down your device and when your are turning it on press both the power and camera button at the same time, it will go into bootloader mode and show you what SPL is on your device. mine says SPL-3.56.Hard after I loaded the hardspl. You are now ready to flash a new rom.
This wiki helped me the most:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
Read as much of it as you can, especially the "SPL questions?" link, that was the most useful for me.
I hope this helps
All good advice! I just loaded the HardSPL on my phone for the first time and it worked perfectly.
Now all i need is a work connection that doesnt block my attempts to download ROM's!!!!!!

Unfortunately this is the Kaiser forum and you will get even less help here.
Post your questions in the Diamond forum and people will help, when and if they are able. And in the meantime, read and search and try to figure it out for yourself, All the steps and instructions are there.
Sometimes people, unfortunately, mistake this site for the HTC free support line, with 12 techs waiting at their PC's to help. Then they get irritated that no one answers their requests for help on a timely basis . If people won't or can't answer your questions then you need to figure it out on your own.
The bottom line is, if you don't know what you are doing, then you shouldn't be messing around with your phone. Sorry

And what I said was that this was the Kaiser forums and not the Diamond forums. Putting Kaiser Spl's on a Diamond will brick your phone faster than throwing it into a bucket of water. So I gave him a link to the Diamond forum and Diamond Security/CID/Sim unlocker.
How is your question related to the Kaiser forums ?
Will it work on my TP/Excalibur? No as phones have different hardware to which is why h-spl's are device specific.
The best way to help yourself and not get a brick "expensive paperweight" is to head to device subforum and do some reading, as last thing you want is to be creating a thread named "Help"

Since I cannot find anything helpful in Diamond forum, I dig around in other forums to try to rescue my phone and make it usable.
Which is a recipe for diasaster...seriously, if you are gonna do something as stupid as to try to make something SPECIFICALLY for another device work on yours, then you do not deserve to own a Diamond.

did I bricked the phone?

So, my husband wanted his firmware changed.... I made everything I did for my phone and everything was smooth. I mean I checked it is a pvt phone and that the radio is the 2.22.19.26I, so the last one.
I flashed the haykuro SPL downloaded from here putting it as update.zip in the sd, and doing alt+s in recovery mode. when the phone restrts it staks for minutes on the first g1 screen, and the only way to go out is to pull the battery out.
so what's appened? what I should do?

Can you boot into recovery?
if you cannot boot into recovery holding home and end or camera and end with looping g1 logo, yes you are bricked.
If you can go back into recovery in any way shape or form, then no you aren't bricked.

Who in the hell made you moderator. Of 42 posts, you will be absolutely amazed how much space you are taking up telling others to SEARCH. Have a looky here
Anyway, knock it off with the "search you fool" crap; leave the moderating to the moderators. At least if you're gonna show your butt, leave a constructive post wherein the confused member can find the help and read the rules.
Here, let me leave you an example.

This community is about sharing; knowledge, expertise, insight, and much more. There are over 6 billion people on this planet. Do you think it might be possible that XDA is going to get people who think they can just pop on and ask questions without following board protocol? Of course there will be. You don't have to insult each and every one....and yes, flaming is insulting.

Flashing with out a HardSpl,

It seems that it is possible to flash the HD2 with with out HardSpl, Is it possible to do this with the Tilt2/TouchPro2's ?
Anyone interesting taking on this project ?
I will offer up a donation to those make this a realty..
This is worth reading, it is possible to flash without Hardspl, but it is on the HD2, Here is the thread discussing it, hopefully this will be possible on the tilt2 in the near future.
HD2 ROM Development
[SSPL] HowTo flash cooked ROM without HSPL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606713
Credit goes to bebe for developing this for the HD2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=270777
I don't know. HSPL is superbly easy, and if your device is too broken to see what the SPL is, you don't have to worry about the repair center seeing what SPL is loaded. If it's still a usable albeit somewhat borked device, just find the stock SPL/ROM/radio and flash that mofo befo' shippin' it off. Hell, you're in USA and on AT$T, too. Phone insurance for thew win, dude. Went from kaiser to rhodium for $125, and free after customer service fu*ked with the wrong mofo.
I never see the point of anything but Hard SPL. I like that I never have to worry about bricking my device, no matter what I flash.
Flashing ROMs via SSPL is has always been reported as unstable. For that reason no-one has created SSPL's that allow ROM flashing in the past. Cotulla must have found something new, or everyone got lucky.
A more practical approach might be the USPL aka SplXploit (assuming that's not what Cotulla did). stepw has plenty of information regarding it on this forum, as does itsme on his personal site.
It's not going to be easy, and will require a lot more hacking ability and time than I have.
Dave
Bumping causing solving this will making trying new roms a whole lot easier ....
BTT it seems that is a good bit of success of flashing without Hardspl, but it is on the HD2, if it can be done on the HD2 then is should possible on the Tilt2 / touch Pro or any other HTC phone..

HardSPL takes about 3 minutes, and you only have to do it once. So I don't see how being able to skip it would make it "a whole lot easier".

If you had taken the time to read the link i provided, you would have seen this..
This is an easy way to flash unsigned OS images to the HD2. It should not void your warranty like HSPLs do, because it does not change your SPL. I know for a fact, that repair centers are advised to check the SPL version number on the device.

I don't see how that makes things a "whole lot easier". It looks to be about as complex a procedure as installing HardSPL, except it has to be done every time you flash, whereas once you have HardSPL:
1) Flashing via USB requires fewer steps
2) Flashing from MicroSD is possible
3) You can flash radios
So tell me how it is a "whole lot easier" when the initial step is approximately the same complexity, and subsequent ROM flashes do not have the reduction in complexity that HardSPL provides?
The problem with the HardSPL is that it many people are having problems and they do not respond to support requests anymore, even with donations. That is why were looking to do it without HardSPL.
sounds like a coup is about to happen!
I wonder if anyone has even though about doing a port of this for the Rhodium... It would be great because it wouldn't void warranty (as far as I can tell) and nobody and use HardSPL for crap anyone because the tick system isn't checked and donating doesn't work.

What would be the stability of a ROM that was flashed after hardSPL was installed with softSPL?

So long as the SPL you have (Hard or Stock) matches closely with the original one HTC intended for that ROM, you will be fine.
HardsSpl DOES NOT WORK FOR me AND NOBODY WANTS TO HELP ME

Please see the HardSPL sticky thread, which is the correct place for this, and where I have tried to help you.

HardSPL takes about 3 minutes, and you only have to do it once. So I don't see how being able to skip it would make it "a whole lot easier".

So you are saying that even if I donate for hardspl it won't work?
90% chance that if you're having problems installing HardSPL, this approach is as likely to (if not more likely to) fail for you.
The only issue I've seen with HardSPL is that on some phones (such as stock Tilt 2s), you can't install it without first installing enablerapinew.cab (or something like that, I forget the exact name). This is mentioned in the HOWTOs for HardSPL, and would likely affect this approach too.

G1 Bricked (Not able to fastboot)

Hi everyone really sorry for opening a new thread for a G1 brick.
My G1 has stuck at the T-Mobile screen and on pressing Camera+Power i cant get into fastboot to restore using the .nbh file.
I am not able to get into recovery using power+home key also.
There has to be a way to get my dream back....
please please please help
JTAG or go for a replacement. I'm guessing it's a DangerSPL brick, right?
Danger SPL
Yes dude....
i have done this so many time.....
this time i forgot to update the radio first and this is stuck....
Someone should have a solution for this....
I read many thread which say use it as a paperweight...
I am not loosing hope....
XDA Member will have some solution.....
Maybe you should try to keep current on developments.
There is NOT A SINGLE REASON to use the deathspl.
As for your "poll"... what do you expect to learn from something like this? Do you realize that any numbers you get will be completely MEANINGLESS?

Sure there is as its one if the few full engineering spls. And I don't think your latest development will ever be quite as user friendly (however some more configuration it will be very close)
The real user friendly fix/patch for 1.33.2005 (those that know what they are doing can decide if any benifit of the spl exists) is an assertion statement in the recovery script to check the radio version is not one of the two common 1.x ones.
(the evil patch is to make the assertion somehow also autoinstall the lattest Rogers e911 patched rom if the user has the 1.x radio. Because atm the rogers rom appears to be very safe from the user messing up the boot chain.. actually we may need to "perfect" the spl a bit more I think it will let us erase hboot)
I am still a newb to the android scene - and do believe I as well made the same mistake - and have bricked my G1.
If eveything I've read is accurate, I can purchase a donor phone - broken screen, or other issues - so long as the mother board is still good.
Swap out the new mother board for the bricked one, and have a working phone again - right ?
Have an opportunity on a donor phone - have no issues pulling phones apart, and putting them back together
But just want to make sure I understand the basics
Thanks in advance for any replies
Motherboard only option ?
Is replacing the motherboard the only option left ?
I am not sure i would be able to do that
Worst day of my life i screwed up big time
Any help is appreciated.
Some tool to recover back to original.
I can understand there is no way to repair as I am not able to get into recovery nor fastboot so cant adb also...
youtube
i checked the below video bt this is kinda a complicated and nt a solution for me

There is no tool to get it back except by the options listed above. If you are not going to switch the mobos in the G1 then you won't be able to do the other option either. There is no software that can bring your G1 back after a deathspl.

hey,
i had the same prob.
only thing,
mine bricke in cause of a radio update,
i tried all which was in my head,
and all i can do
but after some nights spending to my phone i found this:
i copied my nand backup to root of sd,
and connected it to pc
first he told me, device not known
so i tried to boot the modified recovery,
and *tada* i was in recovery mode,
plz try and tell me if it fix your problem,
for mine it did
best regards,
psycho
Mine is also due to radio update dude, before flashing spl the radio has to be flashed i and forgot to do that.
Will try out your suggestion, just hoping that it work and my g1 is back to life.
Ne ways appreciate your suggestion.
Please let me know if you were able to get into recovery mode prior to putting the files on the sd card.
And if you could tell me the list of files (if u had nething other then the nand update) which you put on the sd card, i can replicate the exact process.
Thanks,
Chinmay
Hope
Is there any hope to get the G1 back to life from the Death SPL Brick ?
You should read instructions carefully man. Its not that hard. You should always verify that you have a compatible radio before flashing DangerSPL.
There is a method to recover your device and it involves a lot of time and patience. Google "JTAG".
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
"JTAG".
me too, my G1 Bricked (Not able to fastboot). but i wanna know if the JTAG method work 100%.please.
