Hi guys,
I've searched the forum and can't find any previous posts on this issue, but would apologise if it has been addressed somewhere already.
I got an XDA Ignito last week and ever since have been trying to install Tomtom 6 (which I bought specifically for the new phone) However, I always get No GPS device found as an error. I've checked all of the setting over and over again and know the gps is working because google maps can utilise it.
Has anybody else tried installing TomTom 6 on an Ignito or touch diamond or got any advice on how I might get this working?
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem when I installed TomTom.
You may need to tell TomTom which Com Port to use.
1. Go to "change preferences"
2. Go to "show GPS status"
3. Then click "configure"
4. Choose "other NMEA GPS receiver"
5. Set baud rate to 4800
6. Then choose "com4"
Tom Tom 7 is out there, albeit not strictly legally. Works a treat on my Ignito, seems better than TT6.
Might be worth a try.

Depending on the version of/locked files (Search forum) TOMTOM, you might need to configure it each time.
In 6.02 and below you need to select the NEMA (or whatever its called).
In 6.03 they have a selection of inbuilt GPS device. I Found 6.03 much less hassle to be honest.
how do i get 6.03 please
how do i get 6.03 please
to get tomtom 6.03 update go to the following site and follow their instructions...
http://www.tomtom.com/support/solution.php?GID=3&PID=1401&SID=0&CID=215&Language=1&FID=6736
NOTE: you will need reactivation of your maps after this upgrade to 6.03
please if anyone can help

Are you outside with clear view to the sky? Wait 15 Minutes there! It WILL work.
You're on the right track with GPS on COM9 if you are not using version 6.03. If you get as far as "No valid GPS signal" message then that means your GPS receiver is tracking satellites ok and you're just not getting a GPS fix. I had the exact same problem as you.
1) Just restart your d810 (stylus into the small hole on the underside of your dopod )
2) Start your TomTom and use the same setup as you did before with NMEA.
3) Select GPS on COM9
4) When you get the "No valid GPS signal" message stand outside where there is lots of open sky (if you're in the city... tough luck it would be really hard to get a GPS fix there).
5) Be prepared to wait for up to 15 minutes until you get a GPS fix. Mine took more than 10 minutes.
Got it working plus more
Thanks guys you have been a great help
i updated my tomtom software it was easy
as advised i went to here
http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17
installed home software
then went to this site and followed its instructions
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=6736&Lid=1
and installed tomtom home plus on my computer
tomtom home is excellent for anyone that does not have it, its free and a must have.
tomtom home then updated all my software and gave me free some cool new stuff.
after this did as you said went outside three minutes it was up
thanks i hope this helps others
now if i can only try to see if i can modify my 838 to do this aswell
i know the 838's don't have gps connected inside unit but has anyone opened one up and connected it.
I currently have 4 brand new dopod 810s and 4 dopod 838's i will have to sell some as we just got given them and some people oready had them before we got given them.
they were given to you? wow! give them away too. throw one my way

Are any of you guys with optus? I really want to wait for the official GPS rom from dopod but i dunno what these guys are doing, there has been all these claims of new roms coming out but no substance.
Which rom updates are you using? Any problems with the aussie networks?
Viperx,
Im using this rom. its the offical rom, but it hasnt been released on the dopod asia site for autralian customers as yet. I think I downloaded it from this forum ftp, cant recall now. works great with 3 so far, haven found any bugs. The only thing I fixed since the update was the bass (again that was found on this forum).

Hi
Hi,
I set GPs Program port COM9, hardware port COM 0.
I selected other NMEA GPS receiver and other bluetooth GPS receiver and selected GPS Device on COM9, but it says NO GPS device. What should I do. I'm really frustrated. any help will be appreciated.
cheers
Maulik.
Has anyone got TomTom 6 up and running with a Vario III?
I just got both of the above today, and from my research on here I understand I got to Change Preferences > Show GPS status > Configure > Other NMEA GPS receiver, then I set the GPS baud rate to 4800 (correct?) and COM port to COM4.
The result is always "No valid GPS signal!".
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Works fine here with the settings above, tried it with baud rate 57600
and that works too Is the orange / red light flickering at the top?
Also try it outside of course!
A CD came with My Kaiser installed TomTom 6 on it added Canada maps works like a charm, quick sat signal, no issues so far working great as I drive
Works for me here. But i always use the "internal GPS device" setting.
Ok. First your tomtom is detecting the internal GPS (So that's good)
(if it was not detectig the GPS receiver you would get a message saying "GPS device not found"
Second, I suggest using a simple application to show you the available satellites - if indeed it is receiving any. Give it plenty time and a clear view of the sky. This is a lot more important the very first time you are trying to receive satellite data. Once you have achieved it once it is a lot faster on the next occasions. I use GPS test as a very small application. It auto detects the ports, needs no difficult setup and all it does is show available satellites. If the app shows a few then tomtom will as well. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1582825&postcount=5
By the way, not all versions of tomtom have the option to choose "use internal GPS" as the above poster suggests. If it's there use it but otherwise other NMEA is fine.
Mike
I have just installed Navigator 6 to my TYTN II and it has asked me what type of GPS I have and which port it is connected to - Can anyone help me select the correct one to ensure it works.
Thanks
Whichever that generic wired option is then 9600 then com4
V 6.32, I think, has support for "built in GPS".
This way it automatically turns on the built in GPS and configures it.
No need to configure it manually.
Just get the Navigator.exe off of the ttn.cab file hosted on this FTP and you should be fine
FTP
im trying to download the tomtom cab whats the username and password? sorry if its a dumb question!!
Cheers
i got the download of the HTC website and installed and its asking for some maps.
where do i put them for it to see them?
CLEARLY you didn't do a search. This is on the WIKI.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
on the bottom of the page.
Wolfie, I'm not sure where you are getting your cab from, but you don't need username and pw.
Sning, right on your storage card will be good.
im trying to download from the xda ftp site. it asks me to login? any suggestions?

Thanks for the help guys, turned out I had installed it properly and it seems to be working fine although it did take a while to locate a signal. I had also messed about with the GPS settings by mistake but had put them back to what they were before and then did a reset using the button underneath (not sure if that's a hard or soft reset that is talked about).
I would suggest that anyone having problems go back in to tomtom software and configure the unit as mentioned by others i.e. Other NMEA Receiver; Baud Rate 4800; and COM 4 then go into the show GPS status and leave the system on a window ledge or something and it will find a signal. My device also does sometimes say no GPS device when first switched on to tomtom but this sorts itself out once you use the GPS status.
Hope some of this was helpful or may be I was just rambling
After calling TomTom and HTC I understood that TomTom6 won't work properly on the Diamond. Calling my supplier I got the message that it will at least take 2 months before there will be navigationsoftware which will support the Diamond. Meanwhile you don't have an usable GPS. I don't like that and hope that you will share proven settings/tweaks that enable navigation software like TomTom, Garmin, Route66 etc. Please also share solutions for issues like battery drainige and others. Tnx.
There is mentioned how to configure TomTom 6 at least 3-4 times at Diamond - General section of this forum ... what about trying to search or should I do that instead of you ?
Other NMEA GPS receiver
Baud Speed 9600
Com 4
do you mean to tell me, that it is not working on my diamond.?
strange i used it yesterday and everything was fine............
OK, i've already searched the forum on this issue (went through all 12 pages of results for the words "tilt" and "gps", and while some others seem to have had this same problem, once they get down to the actual problem, the thread seems to end.
the problem is that ever since I upgraded my 6.0 wm version to 6.1 via the official att rom, my gps does not seem to work at all. and by this, I don't mean that I just can't get a lock on any satellites, but the gps itself doesn't seem to be working at all. i've loaded gpstest and after scanning through all the com ports (skipping com4 which is where it should be), it cannot find any gps device. I have downloaded the quickgps updates and the only other thing of note I would say is that I didn't load the att bloatware with the update. and because it started the moment I upgraded, I don't believe a hard reset would do much (would like to try everything possible beforehand so I don't have to reload everything)
now, if i have skipped the thread that gives the answer to this question, I would very much appreciate a link/response on this, as it's been bugging me for quite some time now. thanks in advance
Did you update the radio as well as the rom? Most 6.0 radios are not compatible with 6.1 roms. See the Ultimate Radio Thread for more info.
radio version is 1.65.21.18, and according to the wiki that should be a working radio for wm 6.1. lists this specific radio under the section "KAISER Radios These Radios were ripped from Kaiser WM6.1 ROMs. "
What program are you trying to use with for your gps? TomTom, Googlemaps?
I think I mastered getting a gps fix and I don't think you will have a problem if I help you.
Please provide
1) what gps application are you using
2) baud rate
3) are you using anything to open your gps port before you attempt to run the program?
4) did you change anything in external gps settings?

1.) well, initially i've just been trying to get gpstest to recognize the fact that i have a gps device at all, but i generally use google maps as my main gps program.
2.) for baud rate, i've been setting at 4800. admittedtly, i'm not sure what the baud rate does, but i've always read that that is the correct setting with few that say otherwise (i've tried multiple settings just to see if they work, they don't)
3.) i can't get anything TO open the gps port, as in gpstest skips com4 when searching for a device, google maps just times out trying to locate a signal (outside, clear view of the sky, before the upgrade i could get a signal sitting in my apartment on the first floor)
4.) i haven't changed anything from what it is at default (gps program port: com4, gps hardware port: none, baud rate: 4800, manage gps automatically is checked)
very much appreciate the help

sorry about the delay, I was at work and having issues posting a response with opera on this site because it stated I didn't have the proper tokens? No idea...
Anyhow, it appears you have all the right settings which is good. But you are definitely needing a better program to launch your gps. So stop using gps_test, as I offer you HTC_GPS_Tool, attached cab is at the bottom.
1) install cab to main memory
2) open googlemaps>menu>options>gps settings>set manually> com4 > Baud 4800 > click ok> menu select use gps
3) close googlemaps
4) open quickgps and download updates
5) open HTC_GPS_Tool>set com4> baud 9600 (yes 9600) > Click Open> "Hot Start" should be selected below it > let program run for about 45 seconds or more > DO NOT MINIMIZE OR CLOSE THIS APPLICATION BY CLICKING X OR OK
6) open googlemaps by going to start menu as it is the only option to select the application with GPS_Tool open (unless of course you have a hardware button shortcut for it)
7) You should have no issues getting a gps fix on googlemaps within 30-40 seconds for the first time.
8) However if you do receive issues restart this process and at Step 2 change Baud to 9600 in google maps but it shouldn't be necessary. These steps shouldn't be necessary everytime you want to open your gps port. However, if you encounter issues you have HTC_GPS_TOOL to help you. Always remember to update your quickgps outdoors if you plan on using it. Finally, leave your external gps settings alone.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask via pm or back in this thread, that is if mods don't lock it because your question was answered?
i just got done following all of the instructions (i already had htc gps tool installed in my quest to find something that works), and google maps came back and said that no gps receiver was found, even after setting the settings manually exactly as you said.

it was enabled, just disabled with kaisertweak and am going to try the process once again
ok, we're making progress now lol. after disabling agps, htc gps tool started to actually give me scrolling text like it was working as opposed to the dialog box being completely empty. I goto open google maps, and at first get the same "gps device not found" message, but then for kicks I changed google maps to get gps settings from windows, and now it's past the initializing gps and is finally seeking satellites now. it might be because of a cloudy day today, but neither gps tool or google maps has gotten an actual fix on any satellites
thanks very much for the help so far, can't believe i didn't think of something so obvious to try
just went to grab some lunch, figured i'd try to get a fix on the way, google maps by itself got a fix in less than 5 seconds. thank you very much for taking the time to help me out, i am in your debt
