Hi all,
My Vario 3 was in my pocket and the keylock wasn't on so buttons where being pressed at random.
Looking at the screen there is now a permanent white column to the left. It doesn't matter what program I display, it's always there, I've rebooted the device and the thing won't go away. (see attached photo)
Any ideas what may be causing this?
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried hard reset?
same thing happened to my Hermes, went away after a hard reset.
Thanks for the replies,
By hard reset I'm guessing you mean to remove the battery, wait a while, then put battery back and boot up?
I did that a few times and it's still there...
Any other ideas?
PS. I've attached another image showing the white column against the WM6 bootsplash screen

No, hard reset is something different. Check my signature to see what a soft reset and hard reset are and how to perform them.
Just performed a hard reset and it's STILL there!
hard reset means that you will lose all your data...
are you sure you did that?
if you did that and the screen is still like that, then maybe your screen has become faulty, which means you will have to change to a new screen if that white bar really bothers you that much.
I think it costs around £70 to £80 for a new screen.
If you have insurance with your service provider they might just give you a new phone.
Yep, Hard Reset wiped all my data clean off.
Yikes, so it could be a column of dead pixels!
try going into bootloader mode. if it is still there, then maybe your screen is to blame.
What about trying to realign the screen?
@Elisha
Yep. Still there on bootloader screen
@Mikulec
How do you realign the screen?
if it is hardware related, you will need to get a new screen. you can get it here: http://cnn.cn/shop/tytn-iitilt-screen-p-2032.html
or from fleabay: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Full-Original-LC...ryZ20336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thanks, I assumed you meant you could somehow move the screens x-axis, I've tried calibrating the stylus but to no avail
Looks like it is hardware related then.
you could try a new ROM but if bootloader screen looks like that too, i doubt the new rom will help any.
Oh well, I'll make do for now and then maybe look into upgrading to a new handset in the not too distant future.
btw, What's the next in line to the Kaiser? Raphael?

Thats a good question, some say yes and some say no, the Raphael has less hardware buttons and not ahve tilted screen. So make your decision.
Maybe u can wait a little, nvidias chips look awsome, look at nvidia tegra.
Mikulec,
Wow! That looks great! No tilt, but hey with those specs I could plug it into a hdmi monitor and forget about the tiny screen altogether! I'm sold!
Thanks to all that have helped diagnose the problem with my Kaiser!

I recieved my tilt from Amazon roughly aweek ago. Everything was going fine up until not to long ago. The screen stopped registering any screen taps from the stylus or my finger while everything else worked just fine. I reset the unit a few times hoping to resolve the issue. Nothing. THEN I made the big mistake of hard resetting the unit. Now i get to the calibration screen and no further. Anyone got any ideas? Any idea where I can take this to get looked at? i was contemplating sending it to Amazon as defective but ive already flashed the HTC Rom to it shortly after recieving it. Am I completely screwed? Help!!

you could try reflashing the original ROM
Yeah, I tried that shortly after making my original post. Still nothing. I'm curious if the cable for the digitizer came loose somehow (no idea how though) or if it is an actual hard ware issue.
I thought something was wierd when it was working though. When I used the stylus the taps were very inaccurate recently. More so towards the upper hight hand corner of the screen. Calibrated it a few times hoping to correct it but it was always slightly off still. Then it just stopped working all together.I thought it had something to do with my screen protector but after removal was still a no go.
Luckily I am still able to make phone calls thanks to the slide out keyboard. Not sure if it rings or anything when I recieve one though. Still stuck at the calibration screen Any other ideas?
What size star key is needed to disassemble the tilt/tytn II? I may try taking a look inside to see whats up.

If you're stuck at the calibration screen after a hard reset, how are you able to receive calls? Surely the reset hasn't completed?!?
Also, if you have reflashed to the original ROM, and thats now stuck also, then it has least got the correct ROM image on the device, thus allowing you to return it for a replacement.
Still a little confused about how you're able to use it at all though...
i honestly though it wierd myself. after flashing back to the original rom. at the calibration screen if i slide out the keyboard, press the talk button , close then reopen the keyboard, it lets me dial out using the number keys on the keyboard.
I can actually make out the home page behind the calibration screen as the screen reorientates itself.

I agree, sounds like a loose connection somewhere
Could be grit between the screen and frame
One of my friends had an XDA Orbit and he had this problem. It turned out it was a crumb or piece of grit wedged between the frame of the phone and the screen causing the screen to be permanently pressed at that point. He used some fine implement (maybe a pin - can't remember) to dig it out. If this was the problem with your phone that may explain why it suddenly started working viz the bit of grit became dislodged by itself.
Cheers,
Ashley

Hi everybody
I did a hard reset to my phone this morning, everything worked fine, i took the phone with me to work, and there, I discovered that the touch screen would stop responding.
I tried soft reset few times, didn't helped.
Then I tried Hard reset which also didn't helped - I am now stuck on the Align Screen thing.
1- what can I do to solve it? I have tried blow trying my phone gently for a while in case some moisture got inside somehow. I also tried to clean the edges of the screen with a business card.
2- will att help me with this? I bought this phone on Ebay few months ago. the phone is less than a year old. all I got is the HTC imei and unlocking code.
Any help?

Not sure if this'll help you, but I had a similar problem, and what was causing it was the screen protector had slipped and was squeezed between the casing and the screen itself down one side - one I removed and replaced the screen protector, it worked fine.

I had a similar issue yesterday. I am using Dutty's v2 ROM. My problem started when I tried to enable TouchFlo. I could not get the TouchFlo to work and I did not have a lot of time to play with it. After 30 minutes, Goodlink locked the phone and when I went to unlock, the touch screen did not work. I did a soft reset and that did not help. I had to go back thru and disable TouchFlo and do a soft reset. This fixed it for me.

HELPppppp!
if you already did a hard reset, and its still not responding, it most likely is a hardware problem.
First...
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FLASHED THE PHONE BACK TO THE ORIGINAL RADIO AND ORIGINAL ROM!!!
Second...
Call AT&T. Tell them you have a tilt cell phone and you need to warranty exchange it because the touch screen stopped working.
Third...
Tell ATT that you already hard reset, you already soft reset, and you have already factory reset the phone. Then tell them you have NO additional software on the phone, no installed programs, and have changed nothing.
They will ask you some questions, get your imei# and etc. etc.... then they'll make sure you still have a warrantly remaining. If THAT phone still has a warranty remaining, you should be able to get it exchanged.
Let us know what happens. It DEFINITELY sounds like a hardware issue.
I would go for the business card trick again, it surelly sounds like you have something between the casing and the screen. Perhaps you should try with an other "object" to clean between the screen and casing.

I tried fingernails, business card, everything. not working
Installed 2 different tweak apps (KaiserTweak , PocketTollMan) to disable the touchflo. Both can not be controlled at the relevant areas without the touch screen. God, it's getting complicated.
Should I open the case around the screen and make sure everything is clean?

Help.. my Kaiser just died on me.. Just an hour ago it was working fine, then it went to sleep mode and it wouldn't wake up.. so the only way was to take the battery out.. I took the battery out and then it wouldn't load pass the Smart mobility screen. It just stays like that.. I tried taking the battery out for 30 minutes and it still doesn't work..
What happened to my kaiser and how can I fix it>?
What ROM are u using? and have u recently used clear temp?
If the answer to the above is Duttys and yes...
then Hard reset...no other way
There is an issue with Duttys hybrid and clear temp.
Did you purchase this from AT&T?
What has their tech support said?
Is it still under warranty? If so I would return it for warranty replacement.
This sounds like something failed in your hardware causing a software failure - if it is hardware you are going to want a new machine.

I've had my Diamond for a couple of weeks and the accelerometer has worked normally until now. But now it seems to have stuck - in Teeter, the ball is fixed in the upper left corner and will not move, and apps like Opera and the photo viewer does not react to rotating the phone anymore. I've used the cool Sushi Profile Switcher v.0.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406769) and have
shaken the phone a lot. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is it possible that I've physically broken the g-sensor? - I've hard-reset the phone but it didn't help.
Thanks in advance for any answers
Jon
Use the Bubble level program which visualizes the angle of your phone. It offers the ability to calibrate the phone. Maybe it helps.
You can find the program here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408056&highlight=bubble+level
Maybe there is a reason that HTC didn't build in a profile shaker... that would be something :|

That's not true. it only calibrates it in the app itself. As soon as you leave the app, your gsensor has the same calibration as before.
Thanks for the suggestion - I installed the BubbleLevel program, and allthough it didn't solve the problem, but I think it does give a hint that it might just (hopefully) be a matter of calibration. The green blob doesn't move at all, but the degree number in the top changes from 71,5 when the phone is flat on the table to 90 in vertical position, so movements are still registered.
Could it be that one of the axis the sensors measure is broken?
Come to think of it...: Even though it isn't calibrated, it should work no matter what. If it's calibrated wrong the axis still should register movement in any direction. The only thing wrong would be the read-out compared to the horizon.
I'm affraid that something is physically wrong with the device
Does the 'shake app' still work, or isn't it? Maybe there is a difference in sensing shocks (g's) and the angle sensors.
Probably there is another app, but I wouldn't know one other at the moment: The light sabre applet has a 'debug' feature from which you can see if G's are measured along the axis. Should give an indication too...

I don’t want to sound condescending, but do you know what a hard reset is?
It's not simply removing and replacing your battery!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2332732&postcount=1
I do not understand what is the problem .. to play whit the diamond you keep diamond to the hand and not on the table no?? also tends in my hand a little, but I have no problem playing ...
Ric
the problem is, that a broken G-Sensor does not even allow you to play Teeter. When you open opera, it stays in landscape mode as the device "thinks" it's turned sideways

I know, unfortunately I did hard reset the way described in the guide, but the sensor is still not working.
I've also made a simple little test-application using the g-sensor api described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2381034
Running this on my Diamond shows that movement on the x-axis is not registered at all, movement on the y-axis only shows very small changes, while movement on the z-axis seems to be registered fine. I guess this suggests that the g-sensor is actually broken

Hi Bäcker
So did your sensor also work for a while until appearently broken? And did you by any chance also 'shake' your unit quite a lot before it happened?
it worked fine, now it does work, but its drasticly registering negative X axis data
So teeter can't be used and it flips opera/album on it's own
i did not shake it but a relative's kid (5yrs) dropped it on the carpet - which might be the reason
Just get it replaced under warranty
Me too
I have exactly the same issue.
I dropped the phone once - on a soft surface, no scratches or external damange but...
Teeter Game - ball only rolls on one axis, otherwise stuck at top of scree.
No Rotation in Opera or Camera
Camera, after taking photos and then viewing them in the viewer the are presented upside down and can not be rotated.
I've done a hard reset twice with no resolution.
Contacted HTC. they said that since it's past the 30 since order date the best they can do is have me send the phone in for repair - no replacement.
My main concern now is that since this seems to be a problem others are having too from similar 'small knocks' is it even worth sending back for repair. At this rate all owners will soon be facing the same issue.

The reason I ask is it will help you determine if its soft or hardware related.

MyMobiler should work on both phones, but I use Pocket Controller so I'm not 100% sure.
If you see the black spots on your Notebook screen you will know its not a hardware issue.
But.... it is likely an issue with the digitizer.
