Dear all,
Try as I might, I can't find an answer to this one. I've been a regular reader of all things XDA for a while but here's my first post....
I have a shiny new O2 Ignito (HTC Diamond?). It all seems quite good but the included Opera browser rarely rotates its screen orientation when you turn the device (as it is supposed to.) Other Touchflo apps rotate quite happily. In particular, the photo album app responds almost instantaneously. The "teeter" game is also proving quite popular with the rest of the family....
However, Opera only ever responds to vigorous shaking, or just doesn't rotate at all.
Is there a g-sensor sensitivity parameter for Opera that I'm missing somewhere? I'm quite happy to have a go at a registry hack or xml modification etc....
Cheers,
Michael
Same problem here brother. With mine, if it goes into landscape, it actually goes into landscape and then shoes the homescreen. Then I have to go into the taskman to bring the app back up.
Its very strange. Windows ftl
Download the Skyfire browser it rotates with out shaking.
wow the demos of that browser look great... apparently it has built in flash? nuts.. gonna try and track down a copy right now.
thanks!

Skyfire is not available for people outside the US :-(. And it doesn't support VGA screen. Quite limited to me indeed.
For the rotation problem, you can install Gsen and make the rotation more responsive. And for the flash, there is a version of flashlite that can be used in diamond. I tried that and I could view youtube videos from within Opera.
Yes, I originally thought there's something wrong with my phone's G sensor as the browser rotates but rarely. But I have heard people mentioning this issue (more than once). So, there's nothing wrong with my phone then .
wrong info, sorry.
All good info so far. I'll try and locate Gsens and take a look.

Has anyone figured out how to use the Tytn II's jog dial to zoom dynamically in Opera Mobile 9.5 like on the Diamond? Double tapping the screen is nice, but with a 2.8in screen and QVGA, zooming into 100% really leaves us with a small viewing area. I would like to easily zoom in/zoom out to what ever level I want like Diamond users can using their touch scroll wheel/jog dial, or like iPhone users can using multi-touch pinching on their capacitative screens.
What I know so far:
-input.ini (located in \Application Data\Opera 9.5) has options to change the hardware key configurations, but I haven't had much success in playing around with it, except for getting the font to zoom using the wheel.
-navigating to opera:config in Opera's address bar gives a ton of options, including some that control zoom behavior. But I haven't seen anything that let you assign keys to zooming.
-opera.ini (located in \Application Data\Opera 9.5) has some zoom control options.
that would be really awesome someones gotta build a tweak for this!! for skyfire as well because watching like a youtube video is difficult cus default zoom zooms in too much so its hard to get a full screen ...
As far as I know our wheel is directly "connected" to the "joystick" (the 4 directions pad under the screen). So even if somebody find a solution, it will disable the scroll possibility.
But your right, even with that, it could be a great feature.
There is also the possibility to use the latest build from Opera 9.5 (1957) taken from an Omnia, here.
If you scroll up / down on the right of your screen, you can now zoom in/out .

The new zoom feature in opera is brilliant.
here's a little image
Nice find! But it looks buggy, and the sizing seems optimized for the Omnia (given that there is overlap between the zoom bar and Opera menu button).
Two bits of info though.
1. In HTC Album, the jog dial (at least on the Touch Cruise) functions independently of the D-pad directions. Jog dial zooms, whereas D-Pad pans. So the functions can be separated.
2. In the Diamond, the jog wheel doesn't function as a jog wheel by default. It actually does absolutely nothing in most of the interface. If you want it to function, it has to be hacked to do so by specifying the programs in which you want it to function in the registry (HKLM/Software/HTC/SmartTouch/)
It's funny to see this thread as i was thinking the same thing a few months ago when i first got opera 9.
If this could be done, that would be really awesome.

I think that by the time it leaves beta then they're going to have the zoom sorted...
Oh and a nice Opera Widget collection would be nice as well
Is there any way to zoom in Opera Mobile?
Are you guys using 6.1 roms? I for the life of me cannot get any build of 9.5 to run.

Yes, if you use the official 9.5 beta available on the website (and I'd guess any other build) you can just double tap the screen to zoom in or out. Otherwise, you can go through the menu system to zoom in/out in increments.

This may or may not help as I have a Touch Cruise (Polaris), but I'm using an official WM6 ROM, and the official 9.5 Beta available on the Opera website.
hi,
is there any way to stop opera to rotate?
thanks alot
probably a regestry tweak, sorry cant be any more help.
i gave up with Opera a while ago... kept crashing phone when opening big sites!
i could not find anything in the registry concerning the rotation
Hmmmm...
Did you?
Here is the fix that I am using for that issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439136
If you haven't found a solution, yet, you can try changeScreen. It's like Gyrator, only much better. You can set an exception for Opera in it so it only displays in portrait, or which ever orientation you prefer.
Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466858
Really an awesome peace of software :-D
I sent the request from skyfire website to change device and do an ota reload of the software. When i load it up on the stock rom it is only showing on the left half the screen with the touchflo hompage on the right side.. Is anyone else having this issue, or is there a setting to get this to work on the phone? Thanks for the help!

I'm having the same issue. I don't think this version of Skyfire is compatible with VGA screens.
Glad to know i am not the only one with the issue. I went as far as a hard reset to see if there was an issue on the initial configuration.
I am pretty sure skyfire does not yet support the vga screen.

It's not. They have said that they plan to release a VGA version but I don't think they've announced a timetable yet.
you need to open skyfire with you hardware keyboard open to get it to work. Thats the only way to get skyfire on the touch pro as of now.
please keep the post updated if anyone gets Skyfile to work
I am also having this issue.. I was about to go search the Diamond forums and the Skyfire forums... I could have sworn people said they had Skyfire working on the Touch Pro (Non-FUZE) like Black?
Edit: Nevermind, just have to run Skyfire with the keyboard out.
Good job guys, the workaround is to start it up w/ the keyboard out. Thx
I was able to download and install v7081 just a little bit ago. Seems to work perfectly fine for me up until the point you click out of it and run it in the background and try to go back to it then the screen goes half Skyfire, half Today screen.
No go for me. If I start it with the keyboard extended, still just uses half the screen. Any ideas?
FIXED! I was having password problems. Once I got it fixed, I logged in, and then restarted skyfire, then it worked! Still QVGA resolution, but at least it can play flash, etc.!
Right on!
There are so many Opera versions out there...
The one I have been using 15316. Before that I was using some other version, I can't remember which.
Anyway, I am tired of this flipping the screen upside down everytime I exit it (in landscape).
Which is the best version to use on a Tilt?

I was using Opera 9.5 beta 2, and hated the whole widget mess that they created, so I rolled back to beta 1. So far no complaints.

Where can I get it? What is the build number?
Just a tip, build 15233 ripped from the Omnia worked very well in the short time I used it. There was no screen flipping problem, and it was very stable. It also supported zooming by sliding your finger on the side of the screen. I think the real reason I stopped using it was there was some kind of text reflow issue when you zoomed it though. It has no widgets, although it installs a shortcut to the non-existent widgets, so you need to delete it.
However, I currently use NFSFan's build 15316, which I like due to its 10 tab support and speed. However, as a trade off, it suffers from the screen flipping problem if you minimize it or touch the taskbar while using it. And I definitely agree with TelloMan about the widgets, they just waste space and annoy me. Try to keep looking around XDA, especially in Development and Hacking (where I found many opera builds).
Dave
Yeah, NSFan's 15316 is the one I'm using now. The screen flipping is driving me crazy.
It's hard to believe there isn't one decent browser for Windows Mobile. Anyone know what's going on with that Firefox Mobile?
you're referring to "Minimo" by Mozilla. I haven't seen or heard much lately from them. There's some opera builds are fairly close to perfection depending on what irritates you the least amount. Too bad none of them has flash working perfectly yet. If I had to choose 2 browsers for WM, it would be netfront and opera mobile
well... call me heretic, but imho for casual browsing and forums the best one is opera mini and if I need to use my bank's web page or anything more complicated iexplorer is reliable enough. additionally, I have skyfire installed on my memcard just to make sure that I can browse whatever I want.
the answer? opera mini and skyfire in my opinion. I am tired of o.mobile bugs and new builds every few days/weeks.
Actually, I think he is referring to Fennec, not minimo. Minimo was horrible and requires very high specs, while Fennec, which is still in alpha/early beta, is very unstable yet very promising. It will be quite a while before it will be really usable. I would just stick to opera mobile for now. Skyfire works well, but isn't 100% stable. Opera mini is fast, but not full featured.
As I said, Fennec is very promising, but it is extremely unstable and VGA only for now.

I agree about Mini i use it for pretty much everything then for sensitive info use Mobile.
"I like fast pages and come from SP stock so used to the Mini approach"
I used to get annoyed by the text flipping, but Manila2D always corrects the screen back to portrait when you hit the homescreen. I've been using that as my bandaid.
Build 15233 is yummy

Like Dave was, I just got build 15233 running per the instructions at
http://www.smartphonemag.com/cms/blog/9/tutorial-everything-you-need-know-about-flash-lite-3-and-playing-back-flash-web-videos
and it is by far the best browser experience I've had on my Tilt yet. Flash even worked on http://www.spezzo.com.
It isn't very fast, but compared to IE and the first Minimo, this actually WORKS. I can switch from mobile versions to desktop versions, zoom and scroll, and it uses my IE favorites.
AT&T Tilt
Windows Mobile 6.1 (Build 19199.dutty's)
Thanks XDA good guys!
Hey, Everyone,
I'd just like to ask, what auto screen rotation software's got the fastest rotation. Preferably on-par w/ HTC Album and the new Opera v9.7 beta. I've used older ver's of Gyrator, changeScreen v2.78, and currently use, and of these I'm most pleased w/, Gsen v1.8. However, I don't find any of these to be as fast as the "made-for-HTC-G-Sensor" Album and Opera. Perhaps there were settings in the former apps that I'd overlooked. Any help'd be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks.
I can't see how to edit the poll, but...
I would like to recommend Zensor 2 v1.0.1. I've been using it ever since I'd discovered it. 'Hope it'll work on the Touch Pro2, too.
not sure about being the 'fastest' but there is a gsensorSDK out there that as far as im aware doesnt require any additional apps to be installed as its like some sort of builtin service ( im not really sure)
either way im not sure if the response time of rotating the screen is dependant on the software - more so the polltime of your gsensor and how long the os takes to rotate the view?

If that's the case, how would I go about getting all programs to rotate as fast as OEMs Opera Mobile and HTC Album? They've always rotated very quickly and fluidly.
I can confirm that the new sensor sdk does work but it messes up the camera functionalities sometimes and you might also have trouble when returning from sleep mode...
An app that I used is gyrator and it was fairly quick but I definitely prefer not to rotate the device every time you move it because t soo annoying...
