So first time user. Have been reading a lot, and still have plenty more to read. But i just noticed this problem, not quite sure what caused it.
The problem is that when i'm in IEM, specifically at google, i can not see the text that i type in the search bar. I know the text is there because i can highlight it (still can't see the letters), and the dictionary does suggest words.
If anyone has had this problem and found a solution please let me know. Of course if this has been seen and its merely a case of hit the search button and i will do a more through search.
EDIT: can't see the text in gmail, both user and password (although i see the stars for the pass)
Thank you in advance.

Do you have Cleartype enabled? If so, is it enabled for both portrait (default) and landscape (via utility / e.g. KaiserTweak, etc)?
I've noticed this on my device too and I believe it's related to enabling cleartype in landscape mode. I have cleartype disabled and it seems to have fixed it. Hope that helps.
Thank you mjcalvey, i tried disableing cleartype for landscape but nothing changed. but when i disabled it for ie pocket, the problem was resolved. Thank you very much.

Okay ladies and gents, I have searched and searched and can't seem to find my answer. I am sure one of you smart lads can give me a response in 4 seconds.
The keyboard and keypad work great on my Tilt but I have two issues:
1) I've noticed the screen shots include a tool bar above the keyboard with options for BOLD, UNDERLINED text, ect. I do not have that. What can I do?
2) My xt9 works fine but if I want to create a new text msg, the drop box of contacts no longer appears. This is quite hard to explain but before xt9, if I inputted the letter "J," a drop box of about 7-8 contacts will show up to with names starting with J; sort of like a quick list. The more letters I inputted, the more specific of results the drop box displays. Even if I am in ABC mode, this feature is no more. Would I have to kill Xt9 via registry to revive this feature?
Thanks in advance.

I too have this similar issue
I am unable to type anything in the to: field cause of Xt9
but after uninstalling of the touch keyboard it works again
yeah, I figured it is software conflict with xt9 - you can have one or the other kinda thing. I think I rather have the xT9 than the quick list. I will just have to press one extra key (return) for every contact included.

thanks that did the trick !!!
the only annoying feature
NO SPACE after clicking a predicted word !! grrrr
anyway to overcome that ?
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Recently my Tilt starting having an issue where the "word completion" feature doesn't work anymore. I've checked under Start | Settings | Personal | Input | Word Completion. The setting for Suggest words when entering text is checked and set for:
Suggest after entering 2 letters.
Suggest 4 words.
I think I've located the problem starting after I loaded KaiserTweak. I recently upgraded to a new ROM and it started working again. However, after I reloaded KaiserTweak, it seem to stop working.
Has anyone experience this. It is extremely annoying and makes the device less "one-handed".
Any help or ideas to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
DG
Me too!
I was just about to post the exact same thing... only that I've not pinned it down to KaiserTweak... but that's not to say I disagree... that was certainly one of my suspects (along with spbFullKeyboard and some others).
In my case, this is the standard (T-Mobile) ROM... no custom ROM (there did seem some similar problem reported with one of the custom ROMs).
Like you, all the settings seem fine - both within Windows/Settings and also those shown by KaiserTweak. But I get no word completion when typing emails, texts, no suggestions when entering email addresses etc.
Any suggestions gratefully received...
i had the same problem w/ auto complete & att had me rma the phone...didnt have the problem w/ the 2nd phone.
When I upgraded the ROM, it initially worked. Like a champ. After I started re-loading all my software spb Mobile Shell, KaiserTweak, iguidance 4, dutty throys 3g comm mgr, pocket CM, Mort Script, Total Commander, Wisbar lite, etc it stopped working. So, I don't think it is the device itself. Something is mucking it up afterwards.
Found The Solution To Word Completion!
***Solution: disable XT9 under KaiserTweak and do a soft reset***
I'm using the 3/7/08 XML version of KaiserTweak. Under recent versions there is a section called Text Messages
Text Messages
---Sent Notifications
---XT9
---Threaded SMS (WM6.1 only)
XT9 is disabled by default. KaiserTweak recommends enabling this. If I enable it, I lose the ability to do word completion. However, here is the twist -- if you disable it to regain the word completion, you MUST do a soft reset for it to take effect. After the soft reset, your word completion will work again.
I don't know if there is a way to enable/disable the XT9 on the fly from a keyboard. I saw several references for other PDA models where they talked about this and being in XT9 mode disables word completion, but toggling back to abc mode fixes it. I'm disabling for now so I can have my word completion.

i had same problem until i started using a dictionary and learned my words

Also, had you searched for the problem, here's the thread which already had this discussion, and solution:

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the duplicate question/post. However, it is not always expedient to wade through the useless posts and commentary to get to the solution. The post you quoted is evidence of that. Just a bunch of ranting and raving. I'll never understand why people need to comment other than a solution. Just my 2 cents worth. However, now I've contributed to the ranting. Dammit, I hate when I do that....
DG
Wading? It was the same topic!
Fair enough, although it's not really wading.
"Autocomplete Has Stopped Working" was the topic heading, and it was asked in post # 1, and answered in post # 2.
Glad your phone is working.
I tried doing some searches before asking but I could not find a solution that worked for me so hear goes.
With the phone is tilted I can not see any of the letters I am typing on the input fields. This problem seems to be only related to Internet Explorer as I have skyfire and it works fine with that. Its as if the font color is white and so is the background color thus making the letters seem invisible on the input field. When the phone is not tilted there is no problem.
anyone have any clue what setting is causing this and how to fix it?
TIA....
Kaiser Tweak
Hi
You should use Kaiser tweak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898, disabling Clear Type fonts in IE. This will fix the problem
Maybe this thread could be helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418187
Ciao from Italy
Francesco
AT&T Tilt, brand new, WM6.1, PIE.
I think it worked fine for first few attempts. Then suddenly it stopped showing me the text in google search (predominantly seen). And there were a couple of other place where this happened again.
Is this anyway related to text encoding? The default on my phone is Western European. I remember that I did fiddle with it and had changed it to Unicode UTF-8. But I changed it back to the default one. Even after a reset, the issue persists.
In all other places, the text is visible. It is just when I type it in search fields it does not show.
I don't have the problem with PIE but I do have the problem sometimes in Google Maps. Are you using a cooked ROM? Also I remember a thread that talked about this but never read it so you might want to search for it.
Same thing here.
Tilt, 6.1 official, unlocked on TMO.
Google & Gmail invisible text. The text is there in the form field but I can't see it.
I saw the other thread too, tried everything suggested there but no joy.
Search for "Cleartype in Landscape", you need to turn it off for text to show up in Google Maps or IE. Also, turning it off in Advanced Config Doesn't (afaik) work - you ahve to use Kaisertweak or manually set it in the registry.
I just fixed this problem. You need to turn off cleartype in windows as well as make sure that KaiserTweak is not turning it back on. Once those are both turned off in PIE and other setting you will be able to see the text in landscape mode again.
I am not using a cooked ROM. Everything is factory stock.
Yes, I remember myself turning the cleartype ON. I will go switch it off now. Without cleartype, it did not feel soothing to my eyes.. but hey.. certainly better than looking at invisible text..
This issue is resolved. So basically cleartype support in mobile browser(s) may be screwed up.
I have tried searching the forums, but can't find anything about it. When I get a text sometimes and try to reply, the display where the words are showing up that I'm typing is smaller than usual. If I type more than one line, I can't see what I'm typing (and don't know if I'm making mistakes).
I think it usually only happens when I'm replying, though I have noticed it happening during normally opening up the texts. Sorry I'm not as descriptive, I have been using a tilt for about 8 months now (2 separate ones) and haven't really found a rhyme or rhythm to it yet. Is there a fix for this or anybody know what's happening?
Thanks for anything.
I haven't run into this myself at all. Are you speaking of the size of the text input box, or the font size of the text you're typing, or both? What programs do you have installed? Have you tried a soft-reset?
It's happened with every WM6 program I've run, as much as I can remember - ever since the I've had the stringed text messaging. WM6, WM6.1, Dutty's Rom, Laurenitis' rom (did I spell that correctly?).
I've done soft resets as well. I wasn't sure if it was a common thing that I just couldn't find searching. Anybody else run into this?
Sorry, it's the text input box that's the problem and I currently have the official wm6.1 installed. I've got a # of other programs installed:
AE Buttons Plus
Google Maps
MusicID
Opera
Pandora
psShutXP
Skyfire
SlingPlayer mobile
S2u2
I also use gullum diamond keys
If you go to Control Panel, System>Screen, there is an option to set system wide font size. Try increase that.
I have the same problem. It's as if the text input box at the bottom of the threaded SMS 'hides' behind the bar at the bottom where the softkeys are, so you can only see about 40% of the box. Very annoying if you're typing more than one line.
I've tried changing the font size, which doesn't help.
Changing the orientation of the screen doesn't help.
Ending the "SMS/MMS" application and starting it again doesn't help.
A soft reset sometimes helps, but not often.

i've experienced the problem you are describing on some of the recent HyperDragon ROMs by SJ...make no mistake about it, HyperDragon is an EXCELLENT series of ROMs.
for me, ending the sms/mms application and then starting it up again ALWAYS works everytime i've experienced the issue
...and i think it is caused by rapidly closing the hardware keyboard shut (which causes the screen orientation to begin switching back to portrait) right after typing a text reply in a thread and hitting send followed by pressing the hardware OK button (to close the thread and return to the inbox)...threads you open afterwards will then show this "shortened" reply input field. i'm not certain about the above scenario but i think i was doing some or all of those steps in some order just before experiencing the issue whenever i have experienced the issue.
