I have tried using several registry apps to successfully export [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Launcher] belonging to a previous Hutch 3 ROM.
I now want to re import these keys into my newly installed Duttys 6.1.
How do I do this?
Scuse the newb question (duck for cover) but on a PC you tap the *.reg and it will import into the registry. On my Kaiser running Duttys 6.1 I have PHM_Regedit but Import option is greyed out.
A search did not resolve it so any help would be appreciated.

Install FdcSoft's Taskmanager (it has a built in Regedit), by DotFred. In there you can associate .reg files with it. Then just run them to import.
Great I'll grab it. Thanks Dave I really appreciate the help. I know you all get sick to death of our newb questions.

Dont worry. I spent 10 minutes trying to use PHM before I gave up.
Dot Fred's TaskManager is a kick ass task manager as well as a reg editor (amongst other stuff).
P.S. Easiest way to associate is: Open TaskMgr, tools, options, Create RegEit Shortcut. This will ask do you want to associate.
Cool I can see how to do all that now thanx.
Only hiccup is I can only run it from my Storage card. I cannot work out how to copy it to my \Windows folder. I cannot work out how to delete the existing basic taskmgr.exe that installed with Dutty's. I guess this is because it is a system file. If I try and copy and replace I get error message saying not possible. Whats the trick here?

Don't know. I just leave the exe in My Docs, and run it from the shortcuts.
Okay. Will do same. thanks..
Resco Explorer will also do it.
To dotfred from your SD Card, do this:
Place the .exe in you \Storage Card\Programs folder. With your desktop PC, navigate to \Windows Mobile Device\My Device\Storage Card\Programs & right click on the exe file. Select create shortcut. Move the shortcut to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs using desktop pc.
Voilla! you are done, go check Programs & it's there.
this is the steps i usually take when entering in a reg file. I use resco explorer for all this. I double click. Then I make sure I close resco through the menu exit and not the X button. Then I continue to play around with my phone for a while opening up menus and stuff. Then I soft reset. Doing these steps, I for sure get my stuff to work. There might be some unnecessary steps I take, but I end up with what I want. Many people have trouble keeping their registry stuff to stick. The steps I take, I never worry about that.

Thanks for the tip. Was not aware you could make shortcuts this way. Running from the card appeals because the .exe will still be there after reflashing a new ROM and I will only need to move/copy the shortcut. Being a newb I have been somewhat reluctant to run apps from the card but I am gathering that is is a quite an acceptable thing to do.
Is there a way to place registry keys inside a CAB so that they will get imported when the CAB is launched? Whilst the above DotFred association method works a treat for me with ".reg" files I would like to find a standalone method to import registry info. So that I can pass a single file to someone else and without any extra config they can import the contents into their registy.
definitely. There are a lot of cab creators where you can just enter in your reg key and will create your cab. Someone recommended me this program. I really like it.

Thanks for the link thomasster. Does the job well. Probaly an overkill (and therefore overpriced for what I need), but I got it to work OK. Also from using it, I learnt that the process simply converts the registry keys to provxml. So now I am looking to manaully create the "_setup.xml" and then use iexpress.exe in Vista to create the CABs.
Is there a way to undo changes made by import .reg file?
I imported a reg file using DotFredd's Taskmanager. Now I want to undo it? Is it possible? How?
Thanks
I have just purchased an HX4700 and downloaded a WM6 rom....there are some very talented people out there. I have searched the web for any other rom to get the 'transcriber' functionality back but am not having any luck. I apologise if there is already an entry about this however I have not found it.
I did down a CAB file and copied to my pda, clicked on the setup...got a screen like html text, did a soft reset but nothing changed. It was called MS_transcriber. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Read this and this.
Download.
Thankyou CWKJ for the help.....excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure where to go with the info in the other threads.
I am running wm6.1. I extracted the 'Input Method Fix' and copied the files to my PDA. I then double clicked on the '_setup.xml' file and a list of text like html ran. I then did a soft reset of the device but the transcriber functionality is not listed as a input option.
Do I need to physically alter the registry file and if so how? I have done it on a PC many times but not a PDA.
thankyou for your patience.
By installing the cab, the registry should be correct.
There are tools like TotalCommander (freeware, google and you will find) which I use can help read registry, but do not try to meddle registry for new comers.
For both Recognizers, check if msim.dll is in \windows\ directory.
For Transcriber, check if TranscriberSip.dll is in \windows\ directory.
Using file explorer to check the files may not work as the files may by hidden. If you cannot find them, use TotalCommander as file explorer to check.
If it is not there, I will send them to you, and you just need to copy them into \windows\ directory.
I downloaded total commander. Ran a search for the "TranscriberSip.dll" file however could not find it.
I would appreciate it if you could send it to me thanks.
Shane
.....I had changed the preferences to look for hidden files as I did find the "msim.dll".....still need the "TranscriberSip.dll" from you if you could assist.
Tks, Shane
27/5/08: Disregard my last as I have solved the Transcriber issue. Was a *.cab install issue.
Tks again for the help.
Just posting it here for those who didn't see Schap's thread in the diamond section here:
To download Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool v3.0 go here:
http://www.touchxperience.com/
There are several notable improvement, the greatest of which is that you can export your settings as a provisional xml file. Check it out, and don't forget to donate if you like
Update:
Guess it was posted in development and hacking as well, just not updated in the title. Here's the link for that too:

How to use the provisioning XML feature of Schaps Advanced Config 3.0
By request of JimmyMcGee, our newest moderator here in the Kaiser forum, here are the steps to adding your advanced config settings to your UC for even easier flashing:
1) Open Advanced Config 3.0 and make all of your customizations.
2) Hit done, soft reset, then open Advanced Config again. Click "Menu", and "Export Provisioning XML"
3) Select the location you want your xml file to sent to by clicking the 3 dots next to the detail of the current location.
4) You will have 4 options, name (choose whatever you want), folder (i recommend selecting none), type (select xml), and location (i recommend the SD card). then click "Save" and then "okay"
5) Close Advanced Config, and navigate to wherever you have exported your file to verify that it is there.
6) Open your sdconfig.txt file, and add following line to your UC settings:
XML: \Storage Card\AdvancedConfigSettings.xml
7) Now you will have to flash your next rom it should automatically provision your settings while running the UC.
How To Use XML To Automatically Setup Email
You can follow the the same procedure for provisioning gmail, pop3, imap, & mail2web email accounts. The instructions can been seen here:

You are welcome, i strongly encourage you to look into the feature of exporting a provisional xml file. You can then use this file to customize your settings automatically whenever you flash using UC.

Jimmy asks and he shall receive. I have outlined the steps as best that i can for you. If any of it is unclear i will make corrections in the future to simplify it, feel free to make suggestions. (some steps could probably be skipped, but i will include them anyway):
1) Open Advanced Config 3.0 and make all of your customizations.
2) Hit done, soft reset, then open Advanced Config again. Click "Menu", and "Export Provisioning XML"
3) Select the location you want your xml file to sent to by clicking the 3 dots next to the detail of the current location.
4) You will have 4 options, name (choose whatever you want), folder (i recommend selecting none), type (select xml), and location (i recommend the SD card). then click "Save" and then "okay"

6) Open your sdconfig.txt file, and add following line to your UC settings:
XML: \Storage Card\AdvancedConfigSettings.xml
7) Now you will have to flash your next rom it should automatically provision your settings while running the UC.
Note: I would appreciate it if someone would verify this as i haven't had the chance to flash again to test it, and as such haven't been able to verify it. Additionally i already have a cab which configures many of these settings anyway. I have however followed the same procedure for provisioning my gmail, pop3, imap, & mail2web email accounts. The instructions can been seen here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2532214&postcount=1015
I will update the first post of this thread as well to help out those who would like to take advantage of this very simple and helpful procedure for us chronic flashers.

Hi!
I've recently bought an HTC windows mobile, so I'm still trying to figure it out. So sorry if I'm asking a n00b-question
But anyways, I'm trying to make a .lnk-file that links to Total Commander (which is placed in \Program Files\Total Commander\)
Can anyone either make one for me and upload it, OR write here what I should put in the .lnk-file. I'd be very grateful!
Run TC, go to \program files\total commander, select cecmd.exe, then tap file -> >>>>> -> create shortcut, select this shortcut, tap file -> copy/move, write \windows\menu start\programs in the textbox, tap move.
Edit: It should be \windows\start menu\programs if you have english system
Oh, didn't think it was that simple. I thought you had to write it manually!
Thanks for the quick answer!
guide in my sig
Hello
I have TomTom7 installed on my SD card, with favorites and custom map colors and everything...
After installing the new ROM from HTC, how do I get my phone to recognize the .exe file on the SD card as an installed program?
I would love if I didn't have to reinstall TomTom all over again.
Thanks in advance for any help/input
Hmmm, many visitors - but no answers...
I should maybe write a little more.
If I press the .exe file on the SD card, TomTom7 works perfectly...
- that isn't the issue.
My problem is that I would love to have TomTom in my programs menu, which I can not at the moment.
Therefor I need to get my Diamond to recognize it as an installed program, so that it shows up in my programs menu.
I hope what I'm writing is making sense, if not please tell and I will try to explain it more elaborate.
In "file explorer", hold your finger/stylus on the .exe file then select copy.
Now navigate to My Device\Windows\Start Menu
Hold your finger/stylus on the blank area below all the files listed then select Paste Shortcut
Now rename from "Shortcut to" to whatever you want to call it!
