Looking for a new device, and the Diamond seems a great candidate. I'm not too worried about the battery issue, but I am worried about typing, since I'm used to having a HW KB.
The thing is, I'm sick and tired of big devices, and the Diamond seems small and nice.
If you answered against the Diamond, please explain why.
Thanks a lot for your time.
took me a while to get used to, having been using a tytn II for a couple of years. but now i'm just about as comfortable with the OSK as I was with the hardware one.
I love the Diamond and for your reasons, size being the main one, then the Diamond would be perfect.
However, im used to an Ameo, (HTC Advantage) which is Huuuuuuuuge! That was too big for me, but it seems that the Touch HD is a compromise between the two. Perfect!
I dont wish that I hadnt purchased the Diamond but if id known the Touch HD was coming out I probably would of waited a while. I do love everything about the Diamond tho, it really is a sleek, sexy device and it does everything I want and need it to.
Will see what the Touch HD brings
I would never buy the Diamond, even if there were the same devices available like before.
The screen is too smal for the Resolution, the Touch HD will solve this problem.
The keyboard due to it's small size is not so usable.
I am a fan of the i780, but the screen resolution is still too less, i would expect that a combination of 480x640 and keyboard would make it perfect.
Regards,
Luís
i think the main problem is WM.
it's a great device but like others [omnia, touch pro, hd, x1] WM is slow, buggy, stupid.
I really wish that Android will work on Diamond.
HTC Touch Pro
Have you not looked at the Raphael....complete with HW keyboard, larger battery, and MicroSD
Its only a little larger and it looks like it has your name written on it
I love the diamond, the only problem I get is the battery but I buyed the official extended battery and is perfect
528mhz + wifi + gps + small device + beuty device = all I need
Great phone
I have had experince of Vario II, played some with the IPhone. In general the Compact IV
is not (I havent updated the original T-Mobile rom) that sluggish many reviewers suggest. At least it works fine for me, and is similar to my Vario II (that run WM 6.1).
Its WM so can install loads cool free softwares. Had some issues I brought up on the forum here, but all in all - great phone.
I would ve buy Pro due to battery. I use WM a lot during the day and stock battery is a bad joke.
Typing is ok with compact qwerty and other soft keyboards u can choose from
Why not just buy Diamond and replace battery?
Cos with Pro u will get larger battery, leather case and desktop charger for only few bucks/eur more.
I dont mind the sd card cos 4gb Diamond built in mem is enough for me.
Having the option to change cards (one for bussines data, one for holidays pictures) seems like interresting option but not essential.
With WM 6.1 I dont need the laptop anymore to work outside the office. Problem is... that it dies after 5 hours of mailing, exceling, or filling online forms.
I dont want to use advantage due its size, so definately Touch PRO unless htc will not amaze me with some new biz oriented and tiny device.
There is nothing out there that comes close to squeezing all the toys into such a small device.
Gripes about screen size and battery life are completely irrelevant if keeping size to a minimum is important... and working around these issues really is easy... lopping off 10 or 20mm here and there isn't!
So finally, if you're happy about WM, (where IMHO the big divide on whether a user will be a Diamond lover or hater), then it's a no brainer for you I reckon.
first thing I did with my diamond after I got It was flash it to SwiftBL v6.5 after the updated came I put in SwiftBL v7 16mbpp, changed the way tf3d icons look and put in s2p and s2u2 and now Its perfect I get people amazed what the phone can do and showed them this website after that I got 3 of my friends interested on buying a HTC Diaomond which 2 of them already havethey loved it so much that they switched carriers just to get the GSM diamond. so I say again Diamond is perfect for me. Im buying another Diamond for my wife
In my humble opinion the Diamond is as near to perfect as possible at the moment.
I too was hesitant about moving away from a proper keyboard, but having used the Diamond's on screen it really makes no difference (to me).
I do however rely on SBP Mobile Shell...I would be lost without that, however that would apply to any phone.
i would buy it again, but if the touch hd was out i'd get that instead
Yes. Easily the best device I have used.
It may not be as user friendly as iPhone, but it's size and functionality are fantastic.
I was sceptical about it before it arrived from Orange, as I was thinking about iPhone. But after 5 minutes, I was convinced.
I also found it took a while to get used to my Diamond. Mainly because of the touch typing of text messages (cant be doing with the stylus aaaall the time).....I also however am loving the fact that I can run all my apps, Tomtom, etc...and as my first proper ppc im impressed.
Only a couple of issues though.
1. I wish it didnt hang as much (But Im currently looking into the ROM side of things, all new to me).
2. I wish the camera had a flash (However I do swap to my Cybershot if im out on the town)
3. I wish the sound quality wa much better for speaker and headphone playback.
They probly do seem quite big issues to most, But i o still love the diamond it looks flash as F**k.
Jon
Diamond is PERFECT because it's SMALL, very small.
The battery isn't a problem (in a car or at pc can be easily recharged, i've always a very short miniusb cable with me)
and the keyboard, if you need, can be an IR projected keyboard (make more scene!! )

I love the Diamond, even though it's a EU and I'm in Canada and don't get 3G, it's not the end of the world, there are plenty of wifi spots. The battery could be better, but like most techno geeks, I have chargers everywhere. Could use a keyboard as in the Pro, but I have one of those IR keyboards for long typing sessions...my biggest problem is screen size. I love the VGA screen, but I like real estate (my eyes aren't what they used to be), the bigger the better. So, I will wait for the HD and sell my precious Diamond to someone who probably won't work, play and tweak it like I love to do.
i would buy HD, but since my diamond got stolen i had choice to get moneys or new diamond, so I took new diamond. Couldnt just wait for HD to come
love Diamond, but HD has so nice screen and camera cant say diamond isnt great anyway
Battery life sucks, but..
You know.. i think im going to buy the official extended battery but its just amazing that that tiny battery lights up the screen, wifi, 3g, GPS and if you dont use it TOO INTENSIVE it will stay till the next day, and it'll be 30/40% ..
I every day check my mail, the weather, some websites, MSN Messenger play with GM or TOMTOM andthe battery life is now 60% ...
If you want to buy it so you'd have a little office in your pocket you really should buy an extended battery!
I came from a tytn to diamond. I loved the keyboard on my tytn, but I was sick of lugging around all the extra weight, and running out of pockets for it to fit into. The diamond is a dream to carry, and it looks fantastic. The screen is beautiful. I protect it with a cheap flip leather case, which looks surprisingly good and has a hole for the camera. This also minimises phantom key presses when the phone is in my pocket. I have the mda compact iv version, which is a prettier than the diamond, and I'm still running the much maligned stock ROM (for warranty purposes) - I find it ok. I love the diamond, and am secure in the knowledge that flashing a new ROM, or even running android on it in the fullness of time, will provide a nearly perfect phone experience.
It would be wrong to underestimate the advantages of a compact easily pocketable phone, and it's transformed my ease of use compared with my tytn. The on screen keyboard is fine for my purposes (although it's sometimes a little annoying when it hides the box that you are currently typing into - particularly if it's a password box, and you don't get the feedback of seeing the letter appear as you press the button).
I wouldn't go back, and although the specs of the HD are alluring, I would personally choose the convenience of the diamond size over it. In fact I may well ultimately have both, as the diamond is my work phone, and I may choose the HD for personal use - as long as an android port materialises (apart from the absence of a compass I think it's what the G1 should have been). I have bought ten diamonds for use on our work contract. I have not had a single substantive complaint from any of my users. All are on the stock t-mobile ROM.

Hi everyone.
I`m new here, and I am very sorry that I don`t read trough the whole forum, I know that answers to my questions are already posted, but here it goes :
I have the possibility to buy the Diamond tomorrow morning, but I need to give the seller an answer tonight.
I never had a WM device before, the most were Symbian phones from Nokia, and I am a little unsecure.
My needs are wi-fi, large screen, nice design, music&video playback, and fluid e-mail. As I know, the Diamond meets these requirements.
Considering all it has been said and done about this device, would you still buy it ?
Thanks, and sorry again for not reading the forum, but I lack the time until I need to give the answer.
I can only give you this: if you want to buy a touchscreen phone, buy one where you won't need a stylus.. I'm starting to get annoyed with this. But maybe cuz I have played around with the Iphone, which works alot better.
Some people still like the stylus, but I don't anymore..
As for WM goes.. I'm tired of the choppy animations.
GPS software and multimedia playback are nice though.. which are the greatest advantages..
It is absolutely necessary to use the stylus ? Isn`t the finger enough ?
I'd say, that u should go for it, if you don't mind the weak battery.
On the other hand there will be the HTC Touch HD coming shortly, so you might want to wait for that one. (To get that one or to get the Diamond cheaper).
Allthough I really don't like the weak battery and it's also quite some work to adapt the diamond to your needs, I still wouldn't like to exchange it against anything else available so far.
You can use your finger with the TouchFlo interface, but the rest not so much. Also typing is not that great. If you use the keyboard, u will have to use stylus. If you use the more finger friendly keyboard, you won't see half of the screen. I just gets irritating after a while. But beside that it is a nice phone (ok, they could do ALOT better with the battery). Good camera, good GPS, good sound when calling. It's complete..
Edit: I just remembered, like when ur going through ur contacts, it is very hard to flip or scroll. I think that's just WM, because Resco File Explorer works nice..
Thank you for your answers.
So for usual tasks ( looking for contacts, making calls, ) the finger is enough, right ? Texting and other stuff, with stylus.
Also, are there apps for reading e-books ? Like mobipocket on symbian ?
Does the phone freeze sometimes ? Or acts erratically ?
Considering that I actually like to "play" with and tweak devices, maybe I will give it a try.
If anyone wants to give other advices, please feel free.
Lots of tweaks and playing around with it.. Especially thanks to these forums! It is possible to use ur finger for usual tasks, so go for it.. texting is possible with finger, but because of the screensize and the big size of the keyboard, it is much better to use a smaller keyboard and use stylus..

come and think of it
diamond
1-weak battery life
2-using GPS the battrey only last 2 to 2:30 hour and the device goes hot
3-using wifi also the device goes hot
so you can say the weak point on diamond is the battery and need radio upgrade
im saying you a nokia fan im shore you now how to use Symbian phones SO
how about baying n96 or N95 8GB it has everything you want
N96
1-big screen
2-wifi
3-16 GB internal memory and micro SD slot
4-a lot of game and apps
5-and of cours your favorites OS
so the best choice for you is n96
hope i help you out
im a Windows moblie os fan
and sorry for my english
As I live in the UK the concept of actually buying a mobile phone is quite alien to me as you can get pretty much any phone for free with any monthy contract above £20 per month!! I certainly wouldn't pay the prices that the TD is sold for £400+.
Having said that, smartphones are far more flexible and usable than the 'dumb' phones from the likes of se, Nokia, Motorla etc. From my experience Symbian and WM are both showing their age and are a little unstable but WM easily beats Symbian and with the TD Touchflo 3D interface it looks good too.
The only real problems with the TD are the camera (good resolution but very poor in low light conditions) and the battery life (great for low usage but will drain really quick if used for music, web etc.
The phone is far smaller than a N95/N96 and the majority of other smartphones so when you consider this the battery life is actually not bad.
If you do get the TD make sure you upgrade the ROM. Lots of XDA members will recommend using a cooked (custom) ROM, but for a beginner using the official 1.93 version will result in a fantastic user experience and you can always use a cooked ROM when you become more experienced.
Forgot to mention that ROM 1.93 also resolves the issue of excessive heat coming from the battery compartment.
I`m not really a Nokia or Symbian fan, but those are the ones I had in the last couple of years As long as it works ok, I don`t really care if it`s WM, Symbian, or something else.
The N95 or the N96 are not in my taste, as far as design goes.
Yes levellerbob, in a lot of countries, there is a very nice policy regarding cost of cell phones on contract from operators, but as I`m not that lucky, I need to know a lot of things before I pay Still, thanks for all the advices.
If I decide on the Diamond, I`ll be on this forum all day everyday

if that so go for the diamond
ah and dont forget to see the diamond pro maybe you will like it
Ok, the first thing that caught my eye, was how sexy it was, I was so in love. Wanted it, got it. If that could only work on all the women I love at first sight.
Anyhow, after getting to know the Diamond I found small issues, but no one is perfect so I looked past them. Plus when I take my Diamond out, all eyes are on us. I upgraded her (thanks to Dutty), freed her (unlocked),and even tweaked her (double meaning to keep this theme going).
So why do I still wanna get rid of her, all my ex(s) were Sony Ericssons....and they were all so simple, but not as sexy. My Diamond is the total opposite from what I'm use to, but that' not the problem, the Diamond is getting to complex for my simple brain. There's only so many tweaks I can do to the thing, I have to just realize that maybe this relationship just isn't working out.
Can I get a witness?
Where did you get your charging cradle?
word up... from 3 sonys to diamond and i can't find enough tweaks to get it to work half as good as any of my old sonys
I think one has to have a love hate relationship with most gadgets....if its simple to use, its not customizable enough and if its customizable, you are never quite happy with its current state
Zoolake is totally right.. I customize mine all the time.. Atleast one ROM-update a week.. This ROM doesn't have what I'm looking for, that ROMs perfect, but doesn't have that.. This phone is just uber amazing, extremely satisfying, but somehow.. Yet somehow it's just missing it's simplicity..
I also moved up from an Ericsson.. Damn, that thing was good.. But she's way better, my Diamond.. but somehow.. I don't know.. You know what I'm talkin' about, right?
I'm glad I'm not alone here, thought it was me. Only question is where the hell do I go from here? Xperia? Are all Window 6.1 phones as allergic to simplicity?
Great post!
I've said the same thing about my Diamond since I got it over a month ago.. "Love/Hate relationship". I posted a rant about the Diamond on this forum and others after I got it, and I wanted to throw it away. I went back to my old trusty HTC Touch for a few weeks, but then returned to the Diamond after the New Year. Now I've gotten used to the Diamond and its little issues, and have learned to live with it.
The only problems I still have are -
Sometimes I push the wrong button accidentally when I want to press Left or Right direction ... but I get it right 95% of the time now
TFLO3D is slow and choppy when sliding through tabs (TFLO2D on my Touch was way smoother and faster).. but this is not a big deal
Battery drains like crazy, can't get through an entire day of moderate use. But can be solved by turning off 3G and using Edge instead; and also I'm receiving the official HTC extended battery soon.
Scroll feature (e.g. for zooming in Opera Mobile) doesn't work all the time.. On the same program it sometimes works, and sometimes it stops working.
Form factor (too tall) - Still trying to get used to it, especially for typing, because my original HTC Touch was perfect size!
The biggest pluses for me are:
VGA screen - great for viewing webpages and spreadsheets
Built-in GPS - wasn't working with iGuidance until I ran GpsGate first.. and also disabled Data (I later created a Mortscript that runs/closes GpsGate with iGuidance automatically for me now)
FM Radio!
I think after a while you will get used to it. The Diamond packs so many features into a tiny size, which is the great thing about it.
Ditto on all this stuff. You guys are not alone. I actually loved and hated my Diamond so much that I sold it and then bought another one about 3 weeks later because I missed it too much!!
I basically tolerate its shortcomings for all the stuff I love about it. Ideally, give me the Diamond's specs in the Touch's body and I'd be mega happy.
There's got to be another phone better, do any of the newer HTCs perform any better?
Tbh I felt like this as well from my old Elfin (with Dsixda's ROM ).
BUT, just flash udK's Beta 8 which is super smooth TF3D, battery life WITH 3G lasted me a day easily (approx. 18 hours) with 20% battery left.
If that isn't enough then flash the radio in my sig, ending with .08.
Everything is perfect. Now all I want is WM6.5, hehe.
Dutty's v3.6b is pretty good, speakerphone still sucks, for example is ROM: udK Syrius HD R0 Beta 8 better???? Let the drama begin.
surely this overcomplicated feature (and i agree with you) is down to owning a winmo, and not anything to do with the diamond.
Yes, the phones complicated, if you want it to be. Use it as a phone only (ie just touchflo) and its absoutely fine ! its a normal phone (apart from the standby/lock issue).
Its only when you tinker with windows and apps that suddenly it becomes complicated, but thats the nature of the best. TBH its WHY i bought a smartphone, but yes, i now find it a minefield of tweaks and apps. But, i love it !! i 've never used a phone so much for so long after i bought it. Normally, it'd just sit on my desk. This one i find myself picking it up at least once an hour to mess about with it.
For the last ten years i've just owned a phone. Now, i own something else.

Try it. I've tried around 15-20 ROMs and this leads by example. I think it's using the ROM base from Iolite, which seems better to me than even the latest 2.03 base, since the battery life with this is just amazing, while TF3D couldn't be smoother.
hey Dsi nice to see you in diamond forum i loved your rom for elf i still run it and its perfect thanks again for it, so one question can u post a short how-to to fix that gps isue wich moust of us have ? thanks a lot
..
Hey i read dsixda's rant when he had posted it and being that i trust his comments i stayed away from the diamond until the very day my elfin got upset and fumbled out of my hand into a puddle, just as i was walkin into the rogers plus store to pay my bill. needed a phone so picked up the diamond...hated her for a bit but molded her into my own perfect device...i still dont think she's better than my elfin but she's a damn good rebound lol
So in the end......we ended up breaking up. No more Diamond....I have mixed emotions about it, but you can be damn sure my next baby is going to be hot as hell. Maybe the SE Xperia, or Asus P835. Really hope that all Window Mobile 6.1 devices are not as complex as my last.
i use 6 months before i decided to change from SE K810i to diamond. well, k810i served me good especially the cybershot as i'm quite picture snappy and take a lot of picture. not to mention all java games i've downloaded. heck, until now i havent try all games i have.
i've been using 2 pda before, iPaq rx1700 and after that dell axim x50v and i must say that bringing 2 gadget is quite unfriendly most of the time.
i'm sacrificing the camera for functionality when i went to diamond.
sometimes when i want to take picture, k810i is way much better. you just slide down the camera cover and then snap. when with diamond, you need to on, go to camera and the wait to load.... damn...
still missing my k810i though....
I have waited faithfully for a long time for Android, but now I have fallen in love with Diamond2...
I am a student, and will mostly need the phone for entertainment purposes. For my use, (mostly internet, skype, taking the occational picture, watching .avi's, mp3, old school games like nes or scummvm), which one would you pick? It's important for me the the phone is fast and responsive, and that it can edit .doc files (word, openoffice, something like that). I also would love for it to have a file-organizer (something like norton commander would have been excellent), ability to run and install files from the phone directly, and the ability to download with it (torrents, etc) and if possible, stream online content. So basically a mini-computer. Which phone do you think is best for me? I do not care about calender, email (e.i outlook) integration, anything that has to do with planing and\or actual work, in other words
Also:
Do you belive android will get ported to the diamond 2 in the forseeable future? Will the diamond 2 be released in the US, and if it's not, do you think there will be significant developments (like the android port) for the phone anyway?
So to sum up, Should I just go for the Diamond 2 or wait a month or two for the Magic (thats the earliest it will be released here in norway)?
I am as pro open-source as you can get (typing this from ubuntu Jaunty right now, and got rid of windows 2 years ago on my home computer, without regret (but I am not a gamer ;-) ), but I would still get the diamond 2 (as a matter of fact, I have one).
Better screen (although resistive, but it means that you can use the stylus (no-no on capacitive) AND finger (although slightly less effectiveley than on a capacitive screen), resolution is insane on the TD2. Hardware-wise they are very close, but I like the TD2 style much better (why are all android phones so ugly??? or is it just me? ).
TD2 have better camera and also front-facing secondary one (neither are important for me - as more MegaµPixel is not so important anyway, I am sure 3.2 MP of the Magic is enough given the optics, and video call is too expensive), but Magic have larger battery (very important) and digital compas (not a bad idea ;-) ), and more physical inputs (trackballs, more buttons) that the TD2 is unfortunately lacking.
On the OS side, WindowsMobile, while ugly and dated, just works, have a ton of customization, hacks and software available, and WinMo 6.5 is coming and may be an improvement on the prettyness side.As Android should be ported to the TD2 anyway, TD2 gives you more software choices...and it is available now and not too expensive.
That, and the high-resolution screen, were the deciding factors for me...
How many hours of video(divx) can you get? And how about audio(mp3)?
This is a hard one. Many will be biased here to the TD2 which I am as well.
-It looks way nicer (hotter,Better, Cooler, Bomber, ect...)
-OMG It's HOT
-Ummm doesn't look like a soap bar
-In the future we should be able to run Android on it like the HD and Dimaond and CDMA Touch.
-So yeah go with the TD2
Hi there. Ill be honest i was in exactly the same boat as you. I waited for this a few months and predicted the magic and T2 Diamond would come out at eh same time. I owned a HTC touch since then. I was very curious to try android but the closer i came getting away from winMo the more i realised that i am very familiar with it.
As you can guess i went with the T2 diamond for 3 weeks now. Imported from CLove.co.uk I am very very happy with the diamond 2. The responsiveness of the phone is definately noticable. I might try android probably in 2010 when the android market place is more matured, but for the mean time im sticking to windows mobile.
Asking that question in a Diamond2 thread. You will get biased answers.
I Agree like the rest...HTC Diamond2 !!!
Look No More, it's HTC Touch Diamond2 !!!
ten chars!!!
was an interesting read....and i feel i've been through the same cycle! one very distinct feeling is why the device doesnt behave the way its defined on paper. with all the specs, the galaxy s should literally be flying, but somehow isnt the case.....its most probably the file system, or who knows could be lack of optimization from samsung's side on the drivers or adaptation.
Froyo update comes with a load of expectations and i must say im not as excited as i hoped to be with the leaked builds. they seem very mediocre in terms of what was expected. seems more like a features update build rather than a build aimed at really "stepping up the game" by bringing in some real optimizations and performance enhancements.
anyway, only time will tell and i hope samsung will do a good job in keeping this huge fanbase that they've created happy!
I have the same feeling with you my friend only a little bit worse.
I'm almost disappointed from my decision in buying this phone. My previous phones were HTC diamond and HTC HD2 which I still have and apart from the screen which is obviously better in galaxy s, android and the processor everything else is worse compared with HD2 and if you see here the first video for desire HD I believe you will also have the same feeling.
The software that comes with galaxy S is very poor and even useless (worse than OEM). I have the phone for a month now and I have deleted nearly everything that samsung has to offer and still haven't decided what widgets to put in my screen. Wouldn't have this problem with HTC sense.
Another thing that I'm very disappointed and I don't see anyone talking about it is the crappy camera which although the video is very good, when you try to take a picture (in good light conditions) and zoom a little bit on that picture you'll see that picture quality is very low and you could only compare it to a 2MP picture. (Its the worse camera I've ever seen, even diamond with 3,2MP camera took better pictures).
Also I can't believe that a multi national corporation like samsung cannot come up with a fix for the GPS and get rid of RFS. I'm using now JPH and I can tell you that lagfix is a must. (I think they don't care)
I new that samsung's phones (look Omnia and Omnia 2) were not to good softwarewise, but I bought this phone because I had no other choice as I could not compare it to desire at that time. Now I think it would be better if I bought desire.
This is definitely the only samsung phone I'll ever own and won't bother to look again in what samsung has to offer even if it had a quad core processor.
I hope I was not too boring and if someone has a different opinion I would love to hear it.
it took 6 weeks to get my phone back from repair >.<
In my case I started off needing a new phone badly, as in Now! immediately, as my last HTC phone was on its last legs, the fault was not hardware but Windows Mobile, I just couldn't stand the crap any more.
So, I decided I'll bodly go where no human under the reign of Microsoft has gone before, and found HTC Desire it was all cool and nice, until i started to see the huge list of defects and all the bugs it had, it felt like a mirage in a desert..
Meanwhile searching for bugs fixes and ways to patch up the HTC Desire i came up to this sweeeeeeet review comparison of Desire vs. Galaxy S (all links on my siggy), and i simply ran back to the store and demanded an exchange and i grabbed the Galaxy S. it was the i9000 UK model (3 button working), it was on its early incarnation of crappy ROMs, but the ROM "releases" leaked ROM we so often that it kept me fun and entertained for a few weeks, the GPS was not a total disaster, it at least was able to get a lock under 30sec accuracy was horrible though, with each passing firmware seemed it got better, then Bell Canada announced a NAM version of the SGS i couldn't be happier, quickly i setup a local Ad to sell the UK version, and picked up the Galaxy S Vibrant i9000m, joy joy joy
Because now i can get 3G every where, with the UK version i was only getting 3G on surface level or places close to windows.
Unfortunately a bad trade off, to my dismay i found this unit had the 3 buttons disabled, and that week was leaked the Froyo firmware, and i decided to flash it even with the 3 button disabled phone.... "i have a feeling" (BEP).... and yeap surely enough my guts were right, the damn flash pouched and it failed, and i got the horrible phone-!-pc screen looking at me.
nothing i could do, so i had to return the phone the 2nd day it was released they ran out of new units, as it was the 2nd day of the launch day in Canada, and i did not see it until 6 weeks later.
before i killed it with froyo i did get a chance to play around a bit with the GPS on JG9 and it was waaaay better than the UK version of the phone accuracy was pretty close, it was not jumping all over the place, that was a huge improvement from my point of view.
so after sending my brand new 1 day old SGS back to repair, i had to fall back to my arch nemesis HTC running Microsoft demons... 3 days later i got fed up again and set myself on a new quest and hit every single store carrying the Bell SGS, and testing every phone i was able to and finally after the 5th day i found a unit that had the 3 buttons enable.
bought it right away, ran home quickly upgraded it to JH2 and unlocked it... it was a major relieve.
and since then i've been reaping in the rewards and now i have over 410+ apps installed according to my AppBrain Sync account.
and i learned to keep the bootup process, first thing i did was to remove the media scan
then each time i installed a new app i'll open my Boot manager app and kill anything new added to the boot list
just doing that alone, it was enough to keep the phone running stock without the need of the much feared One Click Lag fix, which i've been reading it's causing more problem than what it solves specially for people running the Vibrant models.
GPS in JH2 was magnificent it gets quick locks in 5~10 sec vs. 10~30 sec on JG9 accuracy is about the same, depends on weather/area and also the sampling rate configure to use on the GPS app.
So in the irony of things this is the first phone that have ever lived up to my expectations.
i can really be in a conversation in middle of a street, some one would ask me something, and i can now easily pull out the answer from the SGS in seconds, browsing is so quick and fast, apps are fast, everything i need to look up runs as soon as i click it.
this is what mobile information is supposed to be, available immediately at your fingertips.
the camera is awesome, takes great picture in day and night, my old HTC phones picture quality were not as good.
and the best thing is i can truely work mobile now, i can have all my 10+ IM accounts online 7+ emails accounts active, lots of great apps for scheduling and alerts
and i can remote in to office/home/clients via RDP and VNC and FTP and SSH and whatever else they happens to be running and do my work from any where i happen to be standing by.
Oh! best of all, i can now be all the time on XDA on my favorite browser... still not used to the XDA App it's not as natural
Good job Samsung

I'm not affiliated in any way or manner with Samsung or Bell or anybody else, i was not one of the lucky one that got the free phone, i actually quite pissed they took 6 weeks to repair my first phone, and making my purchase a 2nd phone.
but that was Bell fault not Samsung, but Samsung is at fault too for listening to Bell and disabling the 3 button mode to prevent us from unlocking the phone and rooting the phone
which by the way we only did it in 3 weeks time, it serves you right Bell
ten chars!!!
Popped into phones 4 u and saw both phones next to each other and now having 2 nd thoughts on the Htc one.
Asking in a forum for the HTC One will only give you answers in favour of HTC.
You're better off asking in the device suggestion thread

I'd much rather have nothing than have a BB or an iPhone but at least if the OP asks in the linked thread, they may get a least a slight amount of unbiased answers.
The answer they're most likely to get, however, will undoubtedly be the One due to the fact it's Android.

The HTC One has a better screen, speakers, build quality, battery, faster SoC and an IR port. There is also the added Android experience when it comes to apps, customization and ROMs.
The BB Z10 is a solid device. It's completely gesture-based, smooth, has a unified notifications/social hub, and a great on-screen keyboard. It also has a removable battery and micro-SD slot. Build quality is good, battery life isn't. BB10 looks a bit stale compared to Android's 'openness', and the app selection is bad...but you can sideload some Android apps.
I'd personally pick the HTC One. But if you're a Blackberry fan and don't mind the lack off apps and customizability, the Z10 is not a bad choice.

I've both the phone. With the last upgrade the battery life on BB10 is good. Both the phone have their good things and bad things. In any case the BB is more business oriented and has the Hub that is far away All other phone. It's so simple!!!! Just one gesture to take a look to everything happens in your world!
The One has other major characteristics like the camera, a lots of outstanding features, an obviously better construction quality. Choice is up to you. Both the phone are good phone and the BB OS is truly rock stable and usable... I repeat... I own both so both are good!
One.
Bye Bye now.

I would not recommend BB to 99% of people mainly due to poor app selection and a lackluster OS. I don't care what alternative you pick. Go buy an iPhone or GS4, I don't care, just not a BB.
I own both of these phones. The z10 will always come out of the bag when I am at work and i need to have quick access to emails. In my opinion, it also offers superior calendar app for business users. It is also quicker to navigate than the One due to its intuitive gestures. I also make less errors on z10 keyboard. BB10 has slightly superior battery life since upgrade. Plus, the z10 battery is removable and its memory is expandable. A plus for me again, was that it has a very functional pull down shortcut menu with options to adjust WiFi, sound etc on it.
However, the One has a much superior build, more apps and has more stable software. It has way better sound quality, screen resolution and camera. It is also faster and smoother than the z10.
Being android, it is so much more customizable than the Z10 too.
Neither phone has battery percentage indicator, which is not great. However, at least with the One, it is possible to get an app that puts the percentage in the notification bar....visible on all screens.
Your choice might depend on your use. I use both phones for different purposes. Z10 for work and the One for leisure.
USING: BB Z10, HTC ONE and GALAXY NOTE 2
Personally I'd say htc one. But go into a shop and try them both next to each other to see which you really prefer.

Blackberry for me only stands out because of their harware keyboard phones(yeah I am a keyboard freak when it comes to phones). But with the all touch phone like the Z10? Get the HTC One
I think the blackberry is more durable while the Htc one will be prone to scratches. The blackberry also has a much better resale value on sell your mobile compare sites which tells me the Htc is not rated. However the Htc is more powerful bigger and better screen.

The Z10 on screen keyboard is MUCH better than the HTC One's keyboard imo. I make much less errors - it has much better prediction. Maybe try to test both in your local store...typing at full speed. I reckon you'll be surprised.
USING: BB Z10, HTC ONE and GALAXY NOTE 2
I understand about the onscreen keyboards What I was talking about is the hardware keyboard that exists on old blackberry phones. So without them I wouldn't reconsider onscreen keyboard quality over everything
And yeah even up till now I'm still relying on hardware keyboard phones. Still using the Mytouch 4g slide. And just now I tried using onscreen keyboards and I suck! Haha 2 letters/sec FTW!

Oh yessss. Swype make the difference. Anyhow I think the best in BB is the Hub. Generally is impossible stating one phone is better than another. It depends on the use. I like the One, but olso I like my z10.
I have been using the Z10 for about a week now and I got to say... I am impressed.
There aren't as many apps out for it as there are for iOS and android but really, how many apps were available when android or IOS was first released?
I used to own a blackberry and left it for android. After using the Z10 I feel it's time to switch back.
Don't hate the device until you actually try it out.
I personally judge a device on first, how it feels in my hand. I'm not going to carry a phone around with me if it just feels uncomfortable to hold. The HTC One S was at the top of that list for me. It has now been dethroned. The Z10 has a feel to it that's hard to explain it just feels right.
Secondly for me is integration of my various email accounts and social networking clients. Blackberry 10 has an integration that surpasses anything you have ever seen in android. The way it handles email, texts, social media, and messengers cannot be touched. I'm at a loss for words. It can't be beat, period.
The interface on the Z10 is easy for someone coming from android, iOS or windows phone to understand. There is a small learning curve. You're not going to pick it up instantly and understand how to use it for the first time, but it's easy to learn.
The rest of it is basically stuff you already know. innovative keyboard, mediocre app world, OK camera, etc.
I'm not telling you to buy the device over the HTC One. I have no experience with that device and how it operates.
I think i'd rather cut off a toe than have a blackberry, really bad phones, although the z10 has to be the best they have to offer, just put it next to the One and you'll make up your own mind.
In my line of work i use every single device on the market (available in britain anyway) and like i said it's the best they have to offer but i feel that it's still not bringing a lot to the table, not when you compare it to the higher tier android handsets.

I agree. If you need to own two phones, these might be best of the bunch at the moment... with The One leading for build and (android) apps Vs. BBZ10 winning for smooth interface, integration, comfort in hand, calendar and on-screen keyboard prediction
If you have to choose one, get whichever suits your personal needs best. Try em both out in store perhaps
Currently interchangeably using HTC One, BBZ10 and Note 2

If you really think this a question, I have no answer for you.
This is an Android vs BB10 question, not a phone vs phone question.
