I thought that well.
Our shift uses an internal cellphone kind of thing... that uses a Quallcom 400Mhz processor... could it be possible, that a rom for TyTN II for example, be cooked and make our shifts hidden parts work ?
The parts used for the gps antenna etc etc... in which other device are they used ?
Or perhaps the bluetooth chip...
anyone knows ...?

Well, it is possible in theory, but the issue is BT, WiFi, Voice (WaveDev) etc. are locked by Vista side of the world. On the other hand Vista uses WinMo as a modem to connect to internet and fetch GPS. I may be wrong too.
thanks

hi,i was wondering if there are any pc board diagrams on the onboard wifi chip for the 8125/8525?i was looking into modifying the antenna if possible.also, does anyone know the name of that program to download the bootrom from the 8525 to my computer for backup?thanks
i wouldn't do that ...
the antenna is well optimised for multiple band usage and moddifying it would mean gain on some part of the spectrum and loose on a other part of it..
hence only make it worse..
dell axim.
ok thanks.i was also reading about a wifi antenna mod for the dell axim on here.does anyone know where the link too that article is at?
does it really lacks the IrDA port?
I use the irda port on my wizard to download my Polar Data.
Yup, it really does lack IR.

Damn you HTC

Sucks big time. I used my Trinity as a universal remote. I hate it when they replace specs instead of just upping them.
Cutting reduces cost, size and use of battery life.
Most people didn't use IrDA
maybe you can find one for the SD/IO port ?

Thanks but I don't particularly like the idea of stuff sticking out of my sd ports. Besides, (micro)SDIO products are few and far between. They never should have removed it because infrared is still used in a number of different appliances which could double your phone as a remote control. As far as I know, it doesn't take up battery life whilst idle (unless you set it to constantly watch for incoming beams?)...
I sure hope their next phone reintroduces it.

Don't like stuff hanging out of mine either!
Sadly, I doubt very much you will see it return in future devices. The TyTn had one, but it's range was veeeery low, just a couple of feet. I have the feeling it's like floppy discs getting as rare as hens teeth.

Welcome "Industry trends"
Some fool decided that IrDA is a no-go and should be removed from laptops and hence from PDAs since Bluetooth has 100% penetration. Outlook for this was 2007, then pushed to 2008 and now they are talking about 2009... I know my company sells chips with IrDA support for laptops coming out on 2008/9... there is still demand but probably the chipset used for the P4550 does not support FIR (IrDA) anymore...
I am in search for a new device to replace my BlueAngel and have had a look at the TyTn II as well as the P6500 but I am very disapointed to find out that the IrDA is no longer available in the new HTC units. I am using the Ir for several devices like my other phones, Polar sports watch, dive computer etc. so for me the Ir is an essential feature.
Are there any way to get this working, I have not found any external units to connect to the TyTn via mini USB. (Even though I would hate have to have some contraption hanging out of the device.)
As of now I might start consider leaving the HTC-land after 6 years with their fantastic products.

Just wondering if anyone has found a solution/accessory for this lack of IrDA port? I have a Touch Cruise which also lacks a IRDA (Gee thanks HTC). I need to get it to talk to my Polar S625x watch. Anyone found a miniUSB IRDA device?
Thanks
OK, I have read a bunch of posts on the lack of IR abilities and how the Tilt uses BT to beam. I just sent a file from the Tilt to my Hermes via BT and it took about 10 seconds. I enabled IR on both devices and aligned the IR port on the Herm towards the left side of the Tilt and it gave the option to beam, I beamed the same size file and it took less than a second. I am not sure I understand, I repeated the test 3 times with the same result. Any ideas?
has anyone tryed this?

Its a sd to microsd port so you can fit into your sdio irda into your phone. its gona be pretty big but at least that is an option...
I'd like to use my diamond as a bluetooth/USB gps and get connected to my laptop. Due too its bigger screensize, viewing maps on laptop got to be nicer, but then how ??? Any clues smart guys???

Thanks bro, I'm gonna get it
You could also try GpsGate for PCC and PC..
Works great for me.
Hmm... I never even realised you could do this. Saves me buying a separate BT GPS receiver for my CarPC.
One question, how do you actually set this up over Bluetooth? It just asks me to pick a BT port, but I have no idea which port to use.
it's said that autoroute 2007 works on the PC, i'll give it a go
As far as I know, the attempts at making OpenGL ES drivers for the TyTN II have been discontinued. But why did the developers decide to abandon the project?
Did the developers of the drivers ever release the source of their work for any other developers to pick up and continue where the first developers left off?
Has it ever been confirmed that the hardware actually does/doesn't exist and is/isn't wired in such a way that a driver can be used to add OpenGL ES support? I mean, even if the chip exists and is accessible by the OS, it doesn't have to mean that the chip is connected to the display of the device in such a way that you can utilize its features.
If so, it's be pretty much like having a computer with a powerful video card, but without the monitor connected to the card.. Instead the monitor is connected to a poor performance card in the same computer, making it possible to use the powerful card to generate "screenshots" which are then simply displayed through the poor performance card, but still without achieving the same performance as you would if the monitor had been connected directly to the powerful video card.
Can someone update me a bit on the progress, or perhaps direct me to the right place to read more? I used to closely watch the htcclassaction.org website, but now that website seems to be dead, without any info about why the development just stopped.
I know that this device is getting old and pretty much belongs to the history books now, but now that android is being ported for the TyTN II, the device may have a new chance of seeing daylight again. Perhaps someone is willing to take a look at the driver issue again and make some TyTN II video driver for android? I certainly hope that the development didn't stop because it was simply impossible to make a driver. After all, you cannot write a driver for hardware that doesn't exist.
Thanks.
yeah, up for this, and is there any driver that will install on the default wm 6.1? thanks for the upcoming reply people
I don't think it's a matter of history yet. The newer devices that have physical keyboards have the same chipset and, therefore, same performance issues they TyTN II has. That extra 124mhz the Touch Pro/2 have aren't doing much to remedy the problem.
Excuse me, what's the currently true problem ?
Some OpenGL ES applications don't runs ? ( an example ? ) or they runs too slowly ? ( an example ? ).
In my "beta" configuration everything seems to work decently.
Regards,
Stefano G.
I think some people were working on it most recently under the development and hacking thread...search Neos2007 open vg drivers...They managed to get some accelleration in much newer msm7201A devices with the ati d3d drivers but when I tried it on my tilt it had a device exception error when I ran some d3d samples...What worked for me for now was:
1. Disable manila/chome
then
2. intall Gfxboost 1.1 by chainfire
then
3. install neos2007 driverpack 2A
then
4. install HTC-CA drivers
By following the procedure above I was able to actually run the program GL benchmark and most of the d3d samples (except text) but somehow some d3d samples break the drivers too...
I have tried some Kaiser " SuperRam - 101/102 MB " roms,
nobody was completely compatible with HTC-CA drivers.
With my rom ( no SuperRAm ) I obtain the best result replacing
the DLL "ahi2dati.dll" with a renamed copy of "ahi2dati_dm.dll".
Regards.

So you want to go geotagging with 3 devices: Camera, Phone/GPS and a netbook to connect them?
Possibly you can cut out the middleman. Just have your GPS create a track, and later, when at your desk, software like http://www.vso-software.fr/products/atomgps/photo-geotagging.php can be used to match the time you took the photo with the position of your track at that time. No need to have your netbook up and running........
