You want to Issue AT commands to the Phone? Have you tried ATCommander?
Failing that: http://www.windowsfordevices.com/news/NS2572643011.html

Pocket Putty rules
Ive been using it for quite some time to access my old school muds
Now only if there were a GOOD mud/much client for pocket pc lol
I couldn't get Putty to connect to the modem BUT.....
ATcommander is an absolute winner!!!! Thanks for pointing me in the direction of this program Dave and thanks whoever coded it!!
If i can get the GSM Cellid out of the phone whilst it's "in call" with AT commands, I'll be one happy bunny! i'll report back in a bit!!
Cheers
Phil
Right ... I've discovered that it's impossible in Windows Mobile to get the Cell ID whilst the phone is "In Call", either if you try to get it from the RIL or via AT commands (AT+GREG).
I think this is because "hand overs" are done by the phone only reporting the surrounding bcch numbers to the BSC but i'm probably wrong ... Only spent 4 years doing BTS data!!
All sad now .... curse you Bill Gates!!!!
Thanks everyone for your help.

Can I connect to LAN with my xda?
No.
you can do some fancy stuff with terminal services client, which will allow you to access some of the things on your LAN. Read the microsoft knowledge base about it - I don't know much about it.
Ben
Via Cradle and activesync you should be able to access the LAN.
I use it for browsing the world wide web.
Think other things will also work....
Regards
Stefan
Yes you can. Well .. sort of. I can perform terminal operations over LAN but haven't opened a socket for mail / IE yet. Please see:

Hi there,
the link is broken! I cannot open the document!
But what about WLan? This should work, shouldn't it?
For example with the SanDisk SD-WLan card (about 129 Dollar/Euro) I-Net should be possible and with some smart utils the rest should work as well (well I don't know about that kind of smart utils but I hope to find things like that...)
What should seperate a XDA from a Lan?

McNugget

all sd wlan cards i know of demand SDIO
same thing with bluetooth cards and many other sd cards which are not just mem
xda dont support SDIO
hm.... damn.
I read about that but I thought there'll be other cards on the market
I hope they develop one in the future.
SanDisk wrote about SDIO and that their cards need it to work.
I hope to access WLan someday to receive my mails inside my university

yo people, my first post.. ok i can jus bout use a pc lol! alright complete noobi here with this xda, how do u get internet on it on my system- i jus have broadband comming through a router, goin into 3 other pc's. what do i do from here? also ne of u know where can get free games..?
cheers for your help in advance! lol,
hacon
the only way a xda1 can connect to the internet using your broadband is
using the IR so the xda connects to the ir port if you got one
or having the xda in the cattle / usb connected to a pc
the only other way you can access the Internet is using GPRS which your telephone company must support and it's kinda slow and often expensive
here they have games
http://www.ppc4you.com/
though most are demo's because as a rule you
have to pay to play
cheers mate, i'll post another one if i have ne problems with that!
the site for games is pretty cool, but i think having a look on kazaa with a search of "pocket pc" might bring up some stuff aswell...
cheers again for your help, jus one little thing, i'm thnking about getting a keyboard for the xda so maybe it could be used to type with..? the official keyboard plugs straight in but there are many "universal" infra red ones and i am curious as to whether or not these might be slower because of IR or which one is better!? ne suggestions please on a decent keyboard for the xda that don't cost 90 quid !

Hi I'm new to any kind of pocket PC's and to this board. I have some questions that are probably extremely naive but where else to learn eh? I browsed every thread and couldn't find answers at my level.
I purchased an XdaIIi from ebay. Oddly it seems we can't buy phone/PC's like these here in NA.
How do I check those versions/numbers I keep seeing quoted. Stuff like ROM Version, Radio Version, Protocol, ExtROM? Where are those numbers and what is their significance?
What is O2 active? What is GPRS? Is that relevant to me living in Canada?
What is active sync?
I've heard 'tomtom' mentioned a number of times, what is that?
Can somebody link me to some retail stores selling the XdaIIi? I'm curious to see what they go for new.
Is there any way to stop the internet connect bubble from popping up every time I come within range of somebody's LAN?
I'm also a medical student (reason for buying) - any suggestions on where to find medical freeware?
Sorry for the crappy knowledge, just trying to learn what I can.
As a follow up question - my phone didn't come with a manual or any software. How do I connect it to my PC - the auto-recognize doesn't do it. I'm assuming a person can browse the pocketPC from their PC? Does a person typically download pocket PC software with the PC and send over to the pocket PC, or is it easier to download upgrades/accessories/plug-in/whatever directly to your pocket PC.
Again sorry for the no-knowledge questions. Hope somebody can steer me the right direction.

Goto Start->Settings->System->Device Information It's all displayed in there.
The ROM Version, is the version of Windows Mobile Rom you have, I think! Mine's 1.11.00 WWE - which as far as I can tell is the latest World Wide English version.
Radio version is the actual cell phone radio version - 1.04 being the latest.
Protocol I have no idea (anyone else help me out here?!)
ExtRom is the software that gets loaded up extra to Windows Mobile usually in the case of XDA IIi users, O2 Active, which is a really crap bit of software for accessing the internet and stuff on your phone easier, but in actual fact does nothing other than slow the IIi down and make it crash! (well maybe I over exaggerate a little, but it is annoying!) There are some other bits of software that get put on in the O2 ExtRom that are of some use, so I generally let it all go on and manually remove the O2 Active bit!

GPRS is General Packet Radio Service - in layman's terms, Broadband Internet for cell phones! It will probably be relevant to you if you can find the settings for your Network Provider in Canada.

The software that comes with the IIi for connecting it to you desktop PC for synchronising with Outlook and to enable installing of new programs.
Download it here if you haven't got it already. The phone won't be recognised by your PC properly without it! http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync41.mspx

It varies - have a search about on google. I noticed O2 stopped advertising them on their website now as the XDA Exec is out!

No you also need the PC software at that link for the two to talk to each other.
I downloaded the active sync software but it's still won't sync. Any suggestions?
did it ask you to set up a partnership when you put the XDA in the cradle??
BTW, Rogers AT&T GPRS settings are at http://www.dslreports.com/faq/7428 obviously I can't tell you if they work or not!
Nope it didn't ask to set up a partnership.
It has the standard thing when you plug USB - 'windows has detected new hardware - pocketPC smarphone'. The hardware wizard then fails to install anything because it can't find software.
In the microsoft activesync folder on my PC there is a single dll file. Is there supposed to be more?
There should be a lot more than just a single dll :? Try re-installing Activesync
Hmm ya now it works. The GPRS isn't working but that makes sense since that kind of things would be something I'd probably have to pay for as an extra. Thanks for the help.
Is there a cab for Kaiser that will install a plain radio on your phone? AM/FM? Lots of Sony comes with one...
better yet is there a cab that will install a projector onto my tilt?
no even better. is there a .cab that will tuen my tilt into a iphone?
I'm looking for a registry tweak that will turn mine into a personal watercraft.
There have been several discussions on this, which you should have seen when you did your search. Even a well respected poster tried, even though he knew there wasn't a fm radio chip it the unit.
you guys are i luck, i just found a cab that will turn your phone into a watercraft with a am/fm radio. here it is readthedamnwiki.cab

I think this is my favorite thread.
has anyone else noticed that the 3G doesn't work in watercraft mode?
I think I have a solution for that. If you activate your Good Puddle Skipper (GPS) before you activate your Watercraft Mode, then 3G works fine.
Thanks that worked just fine.
The replies are quite funny however the ego is hurt. Been around for a few months but I don't remember seeing a tread asking that. I searched on google and seen nothing so I had to ask.
Closest thing to a radio that I found was Resco Radio which is an interface that helps you connect and manage favorite internet radio feeds. Hope that helps some.
If you care for the details, here are the main two I followed:

Serrious help needed!!!!!!!!
Hey, since you helped with the Watercraftw-AM/FM.cab, I was hoping you'd help me as well! You see I live near Los Angeles & traffic is hell. Do you think you could point me to a cab that would turn my TYTNII into a car pool dummy so I can use the HOV lane?
Or better yet....A cab that would make it into an inflatable doll? That way I get car pool lane & a companion for those lonely nights!
On second thought, nevermind. Sticky buttons & all that.

From what I know, Microsoft has never, ever, used Windows Update to deliver WinMo updates of any kind to any device, so there's no real loss if it doesn't work for you.
For personnal convenience i want to to install modem link on my kaiser due to work network-restriction at work without not sucess....
i've found & installed "CDMA" version w/o no sucess with these issues
error: can't connect to COM8
kaiser is not recognized by desktop as usb-modem
my network signal is killed by program
i've foud & installed "WM6" version w/o sucess with these issues
(wmodem.link-wmodem.exe.0409.mui-wmodem.exe)
kaiser is recognized as usb-modem
my network signal is not killed by the program
but when i try to conect it comes out this error: "End data call first"
if anyone could help me with these. i will appreciate so much...
Is there a need to do a register tweak or something else???
note: i know here is internet sharing program include on all wm6.x roms's but in my country still using 2g networks and there is a big difference in performance between IS & wodem link programs.
I'm pretty sure that not even 2 weeks ago this was discussed and someone put forth a good bit of effor to document their struggles. You may want to search back a bit.
