Hi2all!
I have Diamond 1.93 ROM, and i am using WiFi @ home & work.
But on other places i must use EDGE or GPRS (no 3G networks).
Question is simple - each time i want to use EDGE i need to go into settings -> connections and set that programs using internet should use "this" connection.
How to "teach" my diamond to switch automaticaly i.e when wifi connected - use wifi for internet, otherwise - edge.
Thanks for replies!
If Wifi (or wired ActiveSync connection) is already connected, it will be used for Internet. If not, the device will try to etablish an Edge or GPRS or UMTS connection.
If you don't want the tool to automatically connect to EDGE etc. use nodata.cab (search here in this forum) to disable / enable the connections when needed / not needed.
What I'm still searching for, is a solution to somehow priorize the available connections. Like first try to find an open WLAN and only if there's no WLAN available then ASK to open a mobile connection. Mobile data connections are still expensive for most of us and so the automatical attachment is bad. On the other hand, keeping Wifi always open consumes to much battery.

Ok, this was working fine on the original AT&T ROM, but since I flashed to dutty's ROM, I cant get it to work. How do I force the phone to use wifi for net access when wifi is turned on, as opposed to medianet? Currently, I have to keep manually switching from medianet to "my work connection" in connection settings.
You can use Kaiser Tweak to set it to disconnect the GPRS connection after a set amount of minutes of inactivity. Then, when you enable WiFi, it should connect ONLY to WiFi.
I think the OP needs to sort out his "work" and his "internet" instead of just trying to turn off radio data.
I have medianet set to internet and my wifi set to work...not really clear what "work" is....just want to automatically use wifi when wifi is connected, and cant find the option to do that.
Anybody???
I did set both connections to "work".
Additionally I added my tmobile gprs connection to the work profile.
All seems to work great.
I can acces my network shares over wifi and connect to the internet. When no wifi is available it connects via gprs.
I keep getting confused on this same issue. i installed the same rom we are talking about. it shows up for me when setting up email accounts. with my wifi turned on, it still tries to go out the 3g connection. I want it to use wifi if that is what is turned on and i think that was working on the death star rom. For the drop down that says "The Internet" I basically want that to point to wifi if on then fall back to 3g. How do we do that?
It should not be named "work".
So whats the solution here?
Under Connections....Select which networks are automatically used:
Programs that connect to the internet should connect using ???
I can either choose Medianet or my work network, I'd like for it to use wifi when available, how is this done?
Programs that connect to a private network should connect using ???
I have this set to my work network.
Easy Solution to 'Auto Wifi"
Buy an Iphone, works seemlessly, and you get a browser too which works, something these HTC phones havn't had in 3 years.
The easiest way to force wifi (since gprs can be acting as a ***** ), is to keep wlan enabled and to install the NOGPRS.cab (aka the modaco nodata plugin) which allows you to disable (but keep) the gprs settings and which you can toggle on (and back off) when needed.
Great little app, saves much annoyance!
Is there an easy way to toggle wi-fi on/off, that can be assigned to an icon or button? At the moment I have to open Comm Manager each time and do it from there.

Hi i configured the wifi connection for my home and it's all ok
then i have with my phone company (3g Italy) internet connection included in subscription
but i want know what i set to change automatically the internet connection on the 3G when the wifi is not available.
Regards
Francesco
When no wifi connection is available, it should automatically revert to either 2g or 3g connection (whichever is available). If this doesn't work automatically, you can consider downloading and purchasing commmgrpro (www.commmgrpro.com) and using it to either turn wifi on when you are in a specific cel area (or time of day), or prioritize your data connections manually. There are lots of other features to this program - I find it indispensible.
Good luck.

Hi
I just finished setting up Wifi and it works perfect. Is there any way i can make the Diamond use the Wifi connection for programs if such connection exist? Currently it alwasy open a 3G connection even if Wifi is enabled, which kinda sucks, since 3G traffic dont come cheap
So what i want is, if Wifi connection exist use that, else open a 3G connection.
Best regards
Mads
Yes, there is a way. Just go to settings-->connectins tab-->connections-->advanced tab-->select networks and select the one you want to use.
In WIFI settings you have to select the same connection at the "connect to" option!

Hi demacus
Thanks for the reply, but I have some trouble following you guide. First in my Select networks I have to networks, “3” and “Arbejde”. 3 is the name of my ISP and the one that’s currently selected to be used by programs needing access to the internet. In my Wifi “Connect To” option I can’t select the “3” I can only select between “Arbejde” and “Internet” which is just to default networks.
So my question is still the same, how do I make the diamond use a wifi connection if one is present else enable a 3G connection and use that.
Best regards
Mads
Err... in my case, the way it works is.. if I connect to the Wifi, then 3g gets disabled for as long as I am connected to a Wifi network..
If Wifi is available and you ARE CONNECTED (just available isn't good enough, you have to be connected), my Touch Diamond doesn't use the 3G.

Select Connect to The Internet
Hey L o r d R a j
The Internet option i am talking about have a description saying that its for use when connection to a VPN connection. My Wifi is active and if i change the setting in the Connection tab to use "Mit Arbejdsnetværk" the wifi works perfect for the browser etc.
Not sure what I or the danish rom i have is doing wrong. But i cant get it to use the wifi if its there, if not use the 3G.
If anyone have any ideas please let me know, thanks
Best regards

Everytime I get outside of the range of my wifi network at home, my D2 tried to connect to the internet via my mobile phone provider.
How can I switch this off?
Thank you
HI,
it has already been discussed dozens of times, you can:
-install Modaco's NoData.exe
OR
-Use HD Tweak
OR
-Use Advanced Config
OR
-Remove you operator default connection (that was created with automatic configuration)
Thank you I appreciate the reply, will do that right away.
If you don't want to remove your operator default connection (in case you need it again) you can create a new "dummy" connection with nothing in it, then set the phone to use the dummy connection as default. It'll probably complain it "can't connect with these settings" every time, but if you don't mind that it works just fine...

Morning all,
I just got a touch diamond2, this is my first fone with wifi. a couple of questions!
when i'm at home or whereever and connect through wifi this has no impact on download limits within my fone contract?
Does the fone automatically no to use wifi for the internet connection when one is connected?
my fone doesn't stay connected to my home network, it finds it and connects ok but then a min or so later it says 'not connected, networks available'?
any help appreciated
Cheers

Hi,
Using WiFi connections at home will not contribute to your mobile data plan. Wi-Fi data does not go over the cellular networks, and therefore is not part of your contract plan. This also means that you can use VoIP, streaming video, and other services over Wi-Fi, whereas you may not be able to over your mobile data plan.
The phone will not switch automatically between Mobile Data and Wi-Fi. You would need to close the Mobile Data connection, and re-start with Wi-Fi every time you wanted to switch.
Your mobile phone WiFi connection may be entering a power-saving mode when idle; To disable this, download the Advanced Config Tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151 and install it. Open the Advanced Config Tool and look for the Network settings. The bottom two options should be "Turn off Wi-Fi if no activity" and "Wi-Fi Auto off timeout" Change these as appropriate.
Hope this helps!
Hi, here are my answers based on my experience:
1) When connected to a WiFi network (eg. home, work, school etc) your phone operator is not in the position to charge you anything. You'll be charged only if using your operator GPRS,3g etc services. If you want to avoid Operator connections use Nodata.cab or make the right settings in Advanced config or HD Tweak.
2) Once Wifi connection established, it should have the priority on other data connections.
3) Wifi connection stability depends on radio and ROM you're using, my solution is to to set "Maximum Performance" in the Power Management tab under Wifi Settings. Not doing this leads to instable or even "fake" connections: windows says you're connected but no data traffic occur This is the only workaround I know, any other suggestion is super-welcome!
