Tytn Ii Rom Upgrade - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi all,
I have TYTN II which was bought in duty free and it is not connected to any network.
ROM Version: 1.81.415.4 WWE
ROM Date: 10/29/07
Radio Version: 1.27.15.32
Protocol Version: 22.51.88.13H
Bootloader (TriColor) screen showing following:
KAIS130
SPL-1.93.0000
CPLD-8
Serial
Please let me know if i can upgrade my rom to the latest one HTC TyTN II-RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.17.56_Ship.exe
which i downloaded directly from the HTC but without previously upgrading with HardSPL 1?
Thanks

Yes but why
You don't need to install hardSPL to run the HTC official upgrades from an existing official HTC installation. It's a very straightforward process but be aware many people have found the HTC official TyTN II Windows Mobile 6.1 upgraded ROM to offer deteriorated GPS performance with times to get a satellite lock taking significantly longer. I also found the latest WM 6.1 ROM and Radio combination (what you're looking at upgrading to) to contain quite a few bugs that weren't even in the original WM 6.0 ROM. If you upgrade and don't like it, it's not a straightforward process to put it back again (the HTC repair centre reverted my TyTN II) so make sure it's what you really want.
***Edit*** If your new ROM is for a different region eg Europe vs South East Asia, the ROM *may not be accepted either (I've never tried but I know flashing different languages is a definite nono the 'official' way). If the HTC Website offered up this ROM for your serial no, it should flash through ok.

Thank you for prompt answer Flying Kiwi ,
I have to try upgrading ROM to the latest one in order to try fixing problem i am facing described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434884
Now, is it worth trying to upgrade to the latest ROM or my problem is of hardware nature?
Thanks

ROM flashing to fix such an issue not advisable

I've replied to that thread but I strongly suggest you don't go down the path of flashing a new ROM (even if you could) to fix a problem present in the device with an HTC official setup like this. It's time to call HTC and (possibly) send it off for Warranty investigation if you have correctly prepared the desktop PCs first. I'm sure that HTC wouldn't release a ROM which had issues that significant on a device so I'm sure the problem is not with the ROM itself.

T-Mobile MDA Software Version (2.26.10.2)

I have an unlocked Cingluar/Siemens BA that I have been using with Tmobile. I am not confident enough to update the ROM on my own through the info on this and other sites.
On Tmobile's website, if I choose the MDA as my phone I can download their latest ROM version of Windows Mobile 2003 (2.26.10.2). I currently have ROM version 1.32.10 WWE, so I am assuming this is an upgrade for me. Will this work if I try to do it on my SX66 or simply destroy it? I mean they are both running Windows Mobile right?? Again, Im not to keen on this stuff. Any info will help, thanks!
If you use standard, operator-provided upgrades, exectuable checks your hardware and will refuse to install on not supported device. But upgrade will be refused even in situation, when you have Qtek 9090 and try to upgrade with t-mobile MDAIII ROM even though those are identical devices and ROMs are 100% compatible.
SO: if you try to use not modified, original ROM, there is no big risk of failure, but also there is little chance of upgrading, until you upgrade exactly the same device, as was sold by the operator.
I propose you to read Wiki - you will find a lot of information and you will be able to rethink about upgrading to WM5.
One more thing... MDA's are Wizards, and SX66 are BlueAngels...
Totally different phones. The ROM will most likely break your phone. Check for the latest WM5 ROM in this forum for upgrade.
i realize the MDA is a wizard, but I figured since they are running the same software it might work. With that being said I guess you have answered my question. I guess I'll take my time and try to follow the info on this site and WIKI one more time. Thanks for the info.
T-Mobile MDA III is a BlueAngel.

HTC TYTN II Weird Behavior After Upgrade to 6.1

Hi Guys,
thanks for the good job you'all are doing. Will appreciate whatever help i can get to resolve this issue with my phone. I have the HTC TYTN II which i recently upgraded to WM 6.1 using the official ROM which i donwloaded from HTC website. Since then i have noticed that sometimes it seems my phone is dialing itself or a call is coming in. The funny part is though every other function is working i wont be able to answer this phone. It will seem to hang. Then after a while i will get the cprog.exe error. To be able to make phone calls i have to soft reset the phone. i have had to hard reset my phone twice already with no solution. Also googling has not been able to provide any answer too. I just sent an email to HTC Technical support now but with experience i doubt if i will get any useful response. So this is my last resort.
It is also pertinent to note here too that intermittently i do get the tmail.exe errors.
Hi,
I am having the same problem after the upgrade..frequently its becoming stoned! requiring restart many time during the day...which was not the case before...anybody has got any solution???
I love my TyTn II but not the 6.1 ..its not stable!

Azuka, who so ever upgraded to 6.1 from HTC experienced the same problem even i myself suffered the same. So your only solution is to downgrade to 6 but before doing that you must HardSPL your phone ...
Two words... bad flash.
Regardless of what you might hear about WM 6.1 being unstable/unusable, it's simple NOT TRUE. Head over to the Kaiser Wiki, read up on flashing HardSPL (really read), and then once you have HardSPL'd your phone, flash a different ROM.
But please do not make the mistake of asking for recommendations on which ROM to use. The ROM that works best for me probably will not work best for you, in terms of programs loaded and cosmetically.

Thanks for your reply. Your two words "Bad Flash" got me thinking. How could that be. I thought so too and had to re-download the file from htc website and re-installed.
About HardSPL'd your phone, from reading the wiki i now know what it is. But there is no instruction out there to HardSPL'd. Do i need to get the file and copy unto my phone or what?
thanks.
Head over to the Wiki, and under ROM Upgrading - Tools, I added an entry to HardSPL v3.xx. All the instructions needed are in that thread.

Thanks for your help for far. This is an update of where i am today and a few questions i need your help to answer:
I took my phone into the retialer where i bought and who serve as the service center for HTC here in Doha, Qatar. They re-installed the WM 6.1 OS and so far i dont have the issues i was having before. However i do experience momentary screen freezes which eases off after a few second. Right the device information is as follows:
ROM Version: 3.28.405.0 WWE
ROM date: 05/02/08
Radio Version: 1.65.17.56
Protocol Version: 25.83.40.02H
Going into the bootloader the i see the following information:
KAIS130
SPL-3.28.0000
CPLD-8
Which i believe confirms that the HardSPL is 3.28 - please correct me if i am wrong. Now my questions are as follows:
1. How do i resolve the momentary freezing?
2. Do i still need to do a HardSPL giving that mine is showing 3.28?
3. And your answer to do above is Yes which version do i need to do? 3.28 or 3.29 or even 3.56
Thank you once again.

I have the freezing issues too. Two things has helped me reduce the frequency (and improve general responsiveness of the device):
1. I've disabled the HTC task manager application - that helps a lot on responsiveness
2. Each time I soft reset the phone, I manually kill the mstli.exe process - that helps a lot on the freezing issues.
regards,
Spip
Just to share some experiences
So I have the TyTN II and I recently upgraded to the official HTC WM6.1.
I have none of these problems of screen freezing, unstable rom, etc etc etc...
However, I do suffer from occasional program error message and asks me quite a few times to send the report to microsoft.
But this only happens when I load certain third party softwares and then close them down.
I attribute this to compatibility issues with WM6.1...maybe I'm wrong. But that's what I think anyway.

You do not have HardSPL on your phone. You have SPL 3.28, which was flashed to your phone as part of the WM 6.1 upgrade. If you want to try out custom ROMs, you will still need to flash HardSPL 3.xx.
I recommend flashing HardSPL 3.56. It was ripped from an AT&T build, but seems to work great with all flavors of WM 6.1.
As for the freezing, it cannot be eliminated 100%. But with a good cooked ROM and the right HardSPL, you will rarely experience one.
I had this issue and it was just down to previous HardSPL being left at an early version (I think around 1.02) on the device and if you apply this latest HTC stock ROM update you get a bad flash and freezing especially in the threaded SMS app.
Install any HardSPL later than 3.00 then redo the ROM update and it should cure it.
Thanks guys. I just did the HardSPL 3.56 and re-installed the HTC official 6.1 ROM. So let's see how it goes.
Btw, HardSPL-ing is not as difficult as it seems though.
Right now the following is my configuration:
KAIS130
SPL-3.56.Hard
CPLD-8
Device Information is as follows:
ROM Version: 3.28.405.0 WWE
ROM Date: 05/02/08
Radio version: 1.65.17.56
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H

Just a quick update. After HardSPL-ing my phone it worked well for sometime then the tmail.exe error surfaced. I have only had the cprog.exe error - where a call comes in and i can not answer neither can i make another call until i soft reboot - has only happened once or twice. Apart from these the phone has been working well.
Anyway i just got a reply from my earlier mail to HTC and thought i should post if here for people's information. Apparently they are aware of these issues and working on them. Read for yourselves:
New Response From [ Maha Mamer (Qatar Support (Tech)) ]
Thank you for contacting HTC Corporation Middle East Support Dear Mr. Felix First of all we are very sorry for our late reply Please, if your problem still exist with this error message, you can try one of two options. 1- go to Start> Settings> System(tab)> error reporting> and disable the error reporting option. 2- If this did not solve your problem, then you might need to get back to WM6.0 until we finish our update for the new release of WM6.1 with the new modification for our web site. Just an observation here:
After reading somewhere on these pages that the erratic behavior of TYTN II could be due to bluetooth adapter i decided to go some days without my Motorola S9 bluetooth ear piece i am yet to experience any of the issues i had before. Could the bluetooth software for WM 6.1 be the issue?

Did you ever resolve your momentary freezing issues? I have a new TYTN II that I upgraded to WM 6.1. I used hardspl 1.0 to do that but after reading numerous posts, I loaded HArdspl 3.28. After installing hardSPL 3.28, the 5 second freezes are less frequent but happen everyday.
I am not sure where to go from here? load another HSPL? Reload '3.28.405.0 (Radio 1.65.16.25) original HTC WWE (World Wide English) ' ROM?
As you know these pauses are very annoying.

I am looking for a solution. Not using Blue tooth to use a device that costs over 600.00 just doesn't make sense to me.
Is there a ROM hardSPL combination that will give me freeze-free performance or is this an HTC problem that is not solvable. I just can't believe that every Kaiser user that has upgraded to wm 6.1 has the same issue that I have with momentary freezes that last up to 5 seconds.
Is the solution another ROM, another Hspl, another phone? Who can help me resolve this issue? Is there a better place to post this?
Thank you
Freezes and locks.
Prior to my upgrading my AT&T Tilt to WM6.1 which I did today. I was experiancing LONG freezes, listening to music or just waiting for menus. I could not determine any specific software that was the cause. I tend to install a lot. Did a hard reset, didn't install the AT&T bloat, reinstalled my primary apps MS Voice Command 1.6 (a Must). Still same issues... Occationally could NOT answer calls. Hit the green button, or the answer option on screen. the onscreen 'answer' would flash, but I could not use the phone until a soft reset. LONG process when you are waiting for a call back.
AT&T sent me a new phone which I got and installed the NEW wm 6.1 before anything. Worked pretty well, but I had not made any calls or recieved any all day. I did listen to several hours of music on my Motorola S9 headset and made sure Audible Player would work. Two apps I use daily.
All seems well, except NOW I get the cprog.exe error. I decided to test my phone with a simple incoming call. Before I ended it, it went dead. Not sure what the HardSPL is yet. Will look into that. Just thought I'd let others know that the lag, AT&T seemed to think was a hardware issue so they replaced my Tilt.
Software installed; MS Voice Command 1.6, Live Search, Audible Player, TCPMP, FlashBundle, GPSToday. Pretty much it besides the AT&T bloat that came with the ROM. Good luck

TyTN II problem, connected on call, but can't hear anything...

I have this problem on my TYTN II, its running on Windows Mobile 6.1,
ROM Version : 3.29.707.0 WWE
Radio Version : 1.65.16.25
Here is the problem, there are instances that when I answer / make a call, I don't get to hear anything on the ear piece, and the other party also doesn't hear me. I can't seem to figure out where exactly the problem is, because when I do a soft reset, it will work normally again.
Anyone here experienced the same problem ? Any solution ?
Thank you.

I had that problem with an older version of Dutty's wm6.1 rom. I recently upgraded to the Dutty's Apr 29th version (the 19000? or whatever, the upper number one in the thread) and used a 1.71 radio. I haven't had the issue since.
One thing that caused the problem was the headphone adapter with the wm6.1. It would "activate" the headphone mode (turn off the speaker/mic), but when unplugged it wouldn't "deactivate" it until I rebooted the phone. This happened about 30% of the time.

Sounds like a Radio/ROM incompatibility issue. Try flashing the radio ROM that you know works with the ROM and see if you still have the same problems.

I was able to upgrade to 1.71.09.01, but the problem still persists. After making plenty of calls as testing, problem went on again, and a reset again temporarily solved the problem.
I had the same problem when I installed a custom dialer. I then uninstalled it and seemed to not happen anymore.
I kept to the htc dialer.
I had it a couple of times on my bone stock O2 XDA Stellar. A soft re-set sorted it though.

HTC TyTn II Aussie ROM?

Firstly...I'm with 3 in Australia
Ok, bought a TYTN II off ebay some months ago now from a Hong Kong dealer (that'll learn me) and it seems to not work with the 3G network here in Australia. The phone is always EDGE roaming and whenever it switches to 3G I can't send or receive SMS messages.
I've done some reading around and found that maybe I need to flash the ROM of the phone to an Australian one so that the phone will work properly. I found a thread on Whirlpool and someone there posted a link to this ROM for another user:
www.mediafire.com/?0jt1cwyx61g
Is that the ROM I want? If so, how do I go about flashing my phone with this ROM to make it work?
Can anyone help me??
You're more than likely having issues with the radio that came with the phone. Go to the ROM development forum, read how to unlock, install HardSPL, etc.. and then choose either one of the ROMs that come with a new radio available: NATF, Hyperdragon, Dutty's, etc... or look at one of the threads that show how to install a new radio. I'm not going to make any ROM recommendations, because it's really a matter of personal taste and how the ROM feels to you. For me personally, I've settled on T.i.R vk8 WWE build 19971. And I have radio version 1.58.25.17.
Hey dude,
congrats on the kick-ass new phone.
To help you with your prob, you'll have to signup and login to HTC E-Club for Australia, then download and flash the latest 3 ROM. Its the only way to ensure you have the correct inbuilt three network settings, there was a cab floating around a while back but it didn't include planet3 connectivity - only mobile internet.
look for this one :
HTC TyTN II WM6.1 ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ Network customers
ROM version: 3.29.861.0
ROM date: 05/15/08
Radio version: 1.65.16.25
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H
Date: 2008-06-02 Category: ROM Upgrade
I found the ROM development page and the list of radios that relate to the specific ROM's match the ones I already have (note: I already flashed my phone using the one in the link I provided in my first post).
I went and registered for HTC E-Club and went to download the WM6.1 ROM u mentioned Sanchez and when I entered the Serial Number it says the ROM is unsuitable for my phone. Is this because it is NOT an Australian phone?
Would this ROM actually work on my phone and would I be able to get a copy of it from somewhere else?
yeah, its not the actual ROM so much as the stuff Three bundle within that you need.
I'm aka Dr.Nerdlinger on whirlpool, a guy I recommended this to didn't have any problems, seemed to make his US Tilt into an Aussie Three TyTnII.. Havent tried it myself as Im already three branded.

Damn! Sorry...
The ROM I posted the link to doesn't ask me for a "serial" when I've flashed it..
I assume you have run the Connection Setup wizard (Settings > Connections > Connection Setup?
Have you tried to manually enter 3's settings?
Perhaps flash the latest Hyperdragon III http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397121
It has a suitable radio for Australia and I flashed this recently on a TyTn II purchased in Malaysia and all worked fine (as did the ROM I referred to earlier)
Ok but to flash to that (being a cooked ROM) dont I have to do something before I can flash to that? Is it HardSPL I have to install or something like that?
Yes... Unlock and flash a hard spl...
It is quite easy
Excellent directions here:

I am in no way an expert with these devices but I have had no problem that hasn't been quickly resolved.
perhaps unlocking the phone may resolve your problem with flashing the 3 shipped ROM.... (again, no expert here)
Ok seems this is not gonna work. I've done some reading and apparently the board it to blame for my phone not working properly. Since it was an eBay job (but from a company) I can still get warranty but I have to send overseas to HK.
What do people think, I can buy a new TytnII for $659 and when the old one comes back from warranty I can sell it. Would the new one (if I bought from Australian store) work on 3G?
Unless it's faulty hardware, it shouldn't need a return. Don't spend your cash just yet
Try this new official 3.34.721.2 WWE HTC rom, with 1.70 radio.
Download it, plug your activesync cable in, run the exe file you downloaded - after 20 mins or so, you should have the latest ROM, with built in Aus Three Network detection (assuming you have a legal 3 sim-card)
(ps. it may seem like its stalled while flashing, but just give it time)
Report back if successful
Downloaded and installed last night - doesnt seem to have made any difference
sigh...

After Flashing a ROM you should always hard reset the device as well. After all this is done, what versions of the following are showing as being installed: ROM, Radio, SPL (can find the last one in the tri colour boot screen - read the wiki if you need to know how to get to the boot screen)? If all of this is showing correctly and you're still having problems then it's probably something like the sim (just any old sim won't do and it needs to be compatible with the phone). You could try another if you have a spare. When you switched it on, after a minute or so did you get a message popping up asking if you wanted to automatically configure the phone for your networks settings?

Help me for updating ROM for HTC Touch HD

Hi,
I'm using HTC TOUCH HD (orange). I bought this handset from Scotland it was locked with orange only but i Unlocked this handset in india and now i'm using this handset with vodafone India.
Now this handset works gr8 for me but still i can see some settings are map with orange only. I heard if i update with international English ROM then my problem will get solved.
I have no idea about updating ROM. I read lots of blogs even i read on xda wiki also but not sure as its looks like if i update my ROM then i may lose my original ROM.
I have few question:
1. How to choose correct ROM for my handset.
2. Which is the right tool to take the Device backup.
3. If i'm unable to update with new ROM then will i lose my Original ROM.
Hereby i'm sending you my current ROM Version and release date
Current ROM Version: 1.1961.1 WWE
Operator Version: 34.119.1.611
ROM Date: 11/25/08
Radio Version: 1.09.25.14
Protocol Version: 52.49a.25.26U
Your help will be highly appreciate.
Thanks in advance.
I suggest not doing it. If you can't read and search, then you can't flash a ROM.
hey dear. i also got my handset from UK with locked with orange. If u want to upgrade simply go for Cooked ROM's. Those original rom's are crap and cant use the full potential of ur handset.
I would suggest u go for Energy sense 2.1 21898 version.
u need to do just few things in order to flash a cooked rom. if u r ready then do let me know
the best way to take a backup is using PIM backup software
re ur 3rd question. once u flash a cooked rom u will never want to go back to ur original stock rom.
send me a pm whenever u r ready and confident to flash ur phone

it is a real simple process and once u do it u wont fear flashing it again & again
sorry for late reply Thank you so much for ur positive reply.
Could you please let me know from where i can get the currect ROM for my handset?
also please tell me who u did it with ur HTC TOUCH HD and does and don't if you have something before flashing ROM.
OK I have some time so let me try to put it as simple as I can.
First, there are 3 firmwares:
SPL -- This needs to be hacked to be able to change to any ROM
ROM -- You have the HTC official one and cooked ones
RADIO: you have 1.09, lastest are 1.13 / 1.14 / 1.17
The safest way is to use USPL, since it does not modify the SPL. You can always flash a ROM again.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462347
Download uspl_2.5.zip
Be aware that some antivirus flag the exe as dangerous, but that's because it contains an exploit for a buffer overflow.
If you're using Vista or 7, you need to change the drivers for HTC USB sync as explained on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723.
Now power off the phone (long press power button)
Press volume down on the side, and power button
That should leave it in the Red/Green/Blue/White screen
Now connect it to the PC and run USPL
It should reboot and go back to the Red/Green/Blue/White screen but now it says USPL
The phone is ready to flash any ROM or any radio now.
Official HTC ROMs here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Ship_exe
RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.3 4_1.13.25.24_Ship.exe
is the last one on the web, it works fine. Does not have the lastest versions of everything but it works fine.
In the forum you have links to many cooked ROMs, based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5. WM 6.5 takes more RAM and it's slower than 6.1 (like Vista and XP). But most ROMs today are WM 6.5.
I have been used these two in the last months:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460640
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648831
The recomendation is to flash the HTC stock ROM first (that will also update the RADIO to 1.13.25.24). Then if you want to experiment, you can flash a cooked ROM.
Well,
My opinion: once you are addicted to ROM, I think HSPL would be the best way.
You can flash a ROM within 5 minutes or less. Also, using task29 is even more easier.
Cheers, my friend.

By the way, I'm back to Topix 3.5 WM6.1 Manila 2.1.
The difference in speed with a WM 6.5 ROM is too big. People should really consider give this one a try and see what I mean. On WM 6.5 even typing in keyboard is slow. Here you start with 37% RAM used, not 52%. And while using Opera, you have 55% RAM used, not 80%.
No way I'm going back to WM 6.5.
ok, I'm closing this thread now. In future could everyone direct users looking for flashing help to this thread.
