Hi,
I'm using HTC TOUCH HD (orange). I bought this handset from Scotland it was locked with orange only but i Unlocked this handset in india and now i'm using this handset with vodafone India.
Now this handset works gr8 for me but still i can see some settings are map with orange only. I heard if i update with international English ROM then my problem will get solved.
I have no idea about updating ROM. I read lots of blogs even i read on xda wiki also but not sure as its looks like if i update my ROM then i may lose my original ROM.
I have few question:
1. How to choose correct ROM for my handset.
2. Which is the right tool to take the Device backup.
3. If i'm unable to update with new ROM then will i lose my Original ROM.
Hereby i'm sending you my current ROM Version and release date
Current ROM Version: 1.1961.1 WWE
Operator Version: 34.119.1.611
ROM Date: 11/25/08
Radio Version: 1.09.25.14
Protocol Version: 52.49a.25.26U
Your help will be highly appreciate.
Thanks in advance.
I suggest not doing it. If you can't read and search, then you can't flash a ROM.
hey dear. i also got my handset from UK with locked with orange. If u want to upgrade simply go for Cooked ROM's. Those original rom's are crap and cant use the full potential of ur handset.
I would suggest u go for Energy sense 2.1 21898 version.
u need to do just few things in order to flash a cooked rom. if u r ready then do let me know
the best way to take a backup is using PIM backup software
re ur 3rd question. once u flash a cooked rom u will never want to go back to ur original stock rom.
send me a pm whenever u r ready and confident to flash ur phone

it is a real simple process and once u do it u wont fear flashing it again & again
sorry for late reply Thank you so much for ur positive reply.
Could you please let me know from where i can get the currect ROM for my handset?
also please tell me who u did it with ur HTC TOUCH HD and does and don't if you have something before flashing ROM.
OK I have some time so let me try to put it as simple as I can.
First, there are 3 firmwares:
SPL -- This needs to be hacked to be able to change to any ROM
ROM -- You have the HTC official one and cooked ones
RADIO: you have 1.09, lastest are 1.13 / 1.14 / 1.17
The safest way is to use USPL, since it does not modify the SPL. You can always flash a ROM again.
See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462347
Download uspl_2.5.zip
Be aware that some antivirus flag the exe as dangerous, but that's because it contains an exploit for a buffer overflow.
If you're using Vista or 7, you need to change the drivers for HTC USB sync as explained on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723.
Now power off the phone (long press power button)
Press volume down on the side, and power button
That should leave it in the Red/Green/Blue/White screen
Now connect it to the PC and run USPL
It should reboot and go back to the Red/Green/Blue/White screen but now it says USPL
The phone is ready to flash any ROM or any radio now.
Official HTC ROMs here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Ship_exe
RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.3 4_1.13.25.24_Ship.exe
is the last one on the web, it works fine. Does not have the lastest versions of everything but it works fine.
In the forum you have links to many cooked ROMs, based on Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5. WM 6.5 takes more RAM and it's slower than 6.1 (like Vista and XP). But most ROMs today are WM 6.5.
I have been used these two in the last months:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460640
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648831
The recomendation is to flash the HTC stock ROM first (that will also update the RADIO to 1.13.25.24). Then if you want to experiment, you can flash a cooked ROM.
Well,
My opinion: once you are addicted to ROM, I think HSPL would be the best way.
You can flash a ROM within 5 minutes or less. Also, using task29 is even more easier.
Cheers, my friend.

I really appreciate your effort to explain me in details. I think its quite easy to do.

By the way, I'm back to Topix 3.5 WM6.1 Manila 2.1.
The difference in speed with a WM 6.5 ROM is too big. People should really consider give this one a try and see what I mean. On WM 6.5 even typing in keyboard is slow. Here you start with 37% RAM used, not 52%. And while using Opera, you have 55% RAM used, not 80%.
No way I'm going back to WM 6.5.
ok, I'm closing this thread now. In future could everyone direct users looking for flashing help to this thread.

Hi all,
I had an O2 XDA Stellar which I believe is the HTC TYTN II. However, this phone was stolen a couple of weeks back. I purchased a second hand one today which is sim locked to the orange network. I managed to break the lock by following the instructions on this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835. I followed the instructions word for word till step 5.
The problem is now though it accepts the SIM and I can dial out, I don't have any audio on the calls So I can call and my phone also rings when I receive a call but I can't hear the caller nor can I be heard at the other end
Also, I hate the orange rom (and I used to complain about the O2 rom) and I wish to use the default HTC WM 6.1 professional upgrade the problem again is that it asks for a serial number and my serial number starts with DCOxxxxxxxxxxx and it says that this is not a valid serial number
What do I do now? Has my phone become a brick Please do help I can't bear the thought of having one stolen and the other toasted by me
All help will be greatly appreciated

Did you actually read anything or did you just start hacking away ? I will cut and paste a few items out of that thread, so that you don't have to actually read it .
PLEASE READ THE *FAQ* BEFORE FLASHING OR ASKING QUESTIONS!!!
* IF YOU DONT NEED TO FLASH A NEW ROM THEN PROCEED TO STEP 6 TO PUT YOUR DESIRED RADIO BACK*
7. After I flash a Rom I dont have any sound in calls and the camera is black
The Radio has to match the version of Rom you flash i.e. WM6.1, an incorrect Radio will give sound and camera problems. Read The Ultimate Radio Thread to find a Radio that matches the Rom there are lots to try on there if one doesnt work then try another.
3. What are the different types of Unlock?[/B] (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash HardSPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Obviously you did not unlock your phone if a serial number is needed to flash a new rom. I would re read everything and do it again
Thanks for the reply

As you can see I'm a bit of a newbie here, so wasn't too sure if I did need to flash to a new rom. But I did anyway. And the call problems still remain

I've been through this link as well and I was contemplating installing the latest version of the HTC WM6.1 ROMS (version 3.34.721.2, radio version 1.70.19.09) available at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs However I was not sure if this would be ok and (at the risk of sounding extremely dumb) I was not sure what WWE stood for

I maintained the default that was given by the unlocker for the CID (I think all zeros). Do I have to change this as per the ROM image? I don't mind re-doing this again it's a relief that my device isn't busted
No your phone isn't busted. Go into bootloader and check what it says next to spl, if you followed Mark's steps, it should say 3.29 Hard. If that is what it says ,then you can flash any Kaiser rom you want. If it doesn't then start over again.
WWE stands for World Wide English and those roms are all in English. That rom you picked will be fine, if you do not wish to explore the fine world of custom roms ? Maybe later.
You only have to CID unlock once by following the steps, not at every rom flash.
No sound means wrong radio, 6.0 roms need 6.0 radios and 6.1 roms need 6.1 radios. If the rom has a radio in it already then flash away.
Thanks Denco Flashed the ones I mentioned and it works perfect. Can't believe I actually have a working device Thanks for all your help, really great.
Now to sync my data to my new (second hand) htc and I'm good to go
Another question, the device works fine, however since it is a HK rom, it seems to have localised to HK. I've changed this as much as possible to UK. However, I'm wondering if this will affect anything else? For example the gps? Is there any quicker way to configure this globally so all settings use UK instead of HK?
Why didn't you flash the latest UK ROM.
Use this code: HT750GB02264 to download from HTC's site.

Once you are unlocked and HardSpl'd you can flash any rom you want. Pick a UK one another WWE rom or a custom rom. Test a bunch until you have one you like. Your only restriction is it has to be a Kaiser rom. And with all the Kaiser roms available, it is not a restriction at all.

Wow, thanks for that, I was looking for a valid serial through which I can download from the htc uk site One question I had is do I install the radio which I download from htc? Or do I keep the one I have already flashed? The one I have flashed yesterday seems to be a later version than what I've downloaded from htc

1. I keep hearing on this forum about Hard SPL, I'm not sure what this is used for or why it is required but I followed the instructions and it seems I had installed JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe. Now, since then I had flashed the rom, so do I need to reinstall this again? Is there some other one I should be using? I come across different versions on some threads. Also, how can I check the version of HardSPL I have?
2. When I view the memory (under settings) it shows me Storage and Program. However, I can't seem to see any storage area in file explorer. I know in my old xda 2i, there used to be a separate storage area. The reason is because some of the apps I install are quite bulky for example lexisgoo english dictionary (the dictionary files themselves are about 18mb) and this fills up the main memory. How can I install this in the storage memory? (not storage card since I sometimes swap storage cards)
Sorry lot of questions I know, but I'm a newbie and all help will be greatly appreciated
The UK downloaded ROM will install the radio too.
I would do a bit of testing with your current set-up, then flash the UK ROM.
Test the new UK ROM & radio & then reflash the radio only if you want (do some searching on Radio versions)
Newer versions are not always best, chasing the latest builds normally bites you in the ass at the end of the day.
Check HardSPL by going into bootloader:
* Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone along with the camera button
* Release both buttons once the bootloader screen appears
* Exit bootloader by pressing soft reset button
Once you have installed HardSPL thats it, job done (you installed it during unlocking)
What you see in file explorer regarding storage is correct: 128MB RAM for running software ect & 256MB ROM for storing your programs ect (WM2003SE was different)
ROM can be increased by using one of the cooked lite ROMs if storage space is a concern.

Will do, the HK version seems very stable, the only thing that bothers me is the region settings. Anyway, I think I'll give the UK Rom a go and if that works well I'll stick with it

I've attached a screenshot of my memory screen. The bit that puzzles me is that the storage area apparently has a lot more storage but I do not have an option to install all my applications on that area or atleast the bulky ones. I don't think I need a lite one since I do have 112MB free in the storage area which is more than sufficient for all the apps I usually install. Can you advise how I can install apps to the storage area as well?
Lastly, I was wondering if it is possible for me install my apps on the rom and then kind of take an image of my setup and flash the rom with this setup. That way when I do a hard reset, all my apps are installed again. Which will save me the trouble I know sprite backup does something like this but I'd prefer if it was in the rom
Thanks for all your help, it has given me a lot of confidence in these matters. Something I probably wouldn't have attempted

I agree 101% and it appears fewer resources are put into ironing out bugs in the WM 6.1 ROMs than the WM 6.0 ones. I replied to fmervin's post in the ROM forums along these lines.
If all is running OK I would stick with your current HardSPL.
When installing your applications choose the option of installing to "Device"
You could install all your apps into a ROM, this would be cooking a ROM & is a complex process.
I would suggest a backup via Sprite or SPB. I use SPB v2.0 build3065 & it works well for me, preference of backup software is a bit of a Marmite scenario, you either love it or hate it.

You can't do that, it is flash memory. It's not like you can partition the hard drive.
But this is the easiest way to get your Apps and settings back after a flash.
Try this Sashimi Auto installer by a former XDA member. It is a nice little program that installs all your apps after a flash

Hey Denco..Than'x for considering my thread & giving out suggestion towards the link to check the info. But i m really nt that techy afterall so i can burn a ROM on my Tytn II. Even though i tried to burn a RUU rom that supports TyTN II ..Its just gets disconnected from USB mode..So i was looking forward to start it initially with some comparatively easier to install .cab files..Can't these RUU files be transformed into .cab files or maybe some other version of Manila 3D cab file that is completely fixed...I seriously have done a lot of research upon this but nothing looks like working. So please if you have some links to .cab files that can give a better & different look to my Kaiser running Windows 6.1...It'l be a great help !!

I think you need to decide what it is that you want to accomplish. Unless you cook your own rom, there is no way to add apps to the rom ( so that they will remain after a hard reset) Your rom is wyour phone's base operating system, it contains your OS (WM 6.1 ) and can only be replaced after completely erasing and replacing all files from the previous rom.
If it is a new rom you want, pick a rom that interests you and follow these instructions verbatim .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
Your phone will go to the bootloader screen ( three color) and it will disconnect from usb during the process, but be patient until the end. When it says it takes ten minutes, it takes ten minutes. Leave the room if you have to , to keep from getting impatient.
If you just want to keep your OEM WM 6.1 and keep it simple, but change the look of your phone try this,
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Manila+2D+and+M2D+Themes
This will change the look and feel of your phone with uninstallable .cab files and will not affect the rom or brick your phone by accident.
Here are my questions:
1) Will Hard SPL permanently stay even after...ROM Flashing/Hard Reset?
(I prefer it to stay because I don't want to reinstall after every new custom ROM)
2) If I update to ITJE's awesome Touch-IT V5 ROM, can I go back to the R2A firmware simply using SEUS? (Meaning I don't have to backup my ROM to revert back)
Thank you for your time.

YES to number 1
No to number 2 *****BUT NO NEED****
****You can simply download your rom image from PavelsX1 ROMS Thread and flash with this one just rename it to KOVSIMG.nbh and copy to root MicroSd******
Hope i helped you
So are you telling me that in order to use SEUS to update to firmware R3A once it comes out, I would need to reinstall SPL (the original SPL)?
So...if I reinstall Stock SPL (the original SPL for warranty reason), will I be able to use SEUS to update to official ROM R3A (while my X1a is using Touch-IT v5.04)?

the thread is currently closed but right now it's running so fast xperia and eveyrything I only dont know why for instance if I talk and my ear is touching the screen this notification tab always pops out or if I try to click on the battery status on the main page it always pops out do you get that too?
what a load if sillyness.
Yes SPL should stick. there's some instances where it may get overwritten by a stockspl I think, (if a released rom has a newer version) but it's pretty unlikely.
no you don't need to change the SPL to go back to using SEUS
It should allow you to flash the latest straight away, I've done it a few times. However if you want a specific locale or language version then it would be a good idea to flash the correct rom from Pavels thread.

Currently I'm using Touch-IT WM6.5 Beta 2.0, I've tried to get update via SEUS without get back to Official ROM or StockSPL, as you said, but it seems the SEUS didn't recognize my X1, my X1 just freez at the Bootloader screen & the SEUS just in the Identifying Process without any ending. And at the second time I tried it, the SEUS just freez at the "Follow the Instructions below" screen.
Are you sure with what you've done Fards?
im certain.
I've done it a couple of times now. some people seem to have issues with seus, even from stock rom.
have you got a different computer you could try it on?
have you tried putting the x1 in bootloader mode first to see if it makes a difference?
reading the 6.5 thread it seems some people are having issues with flashing other roms afterwards, so maybe that's connected, if so then try one of the released stock roms first ?

I haven't tried with another computer Fards, I was using my laptop which ever successfull upgrade my X1 from R1A to R2A using SEUS and even just for check for updates without any errors (I've done it a couple times when using official ROM). I'll give a try with another one if I've time, but I'm not sure it's my computer issue.
Certainly I'm always putting the X1 in bootloader fisrt before connect it to PC and continue the SEUS process.
Have you ever tried this WM6.5 ROM to get update using SEUS successfully?
Thanks for ur time Fards..

It's Itje Custom ROM based on WM6.5 beta
I can confirm now, it's not my computer issue, I've tested it with another computer and had the same issue.
Tested with get back to Stock ROM, and the SEUS works!

You have to READ and understand first before jumping into Flashing ROMs. Out of all the ROMs out there... Flashing Dutty's 2.7 is the most confusing, especially if you are new to ROM Flashing.
First of all, you would have to flash HSPL (Hard SPL) or USPL (Universal SPL) on your device to flash Cooked or Custom ROMs. Do a bit of reading on these 2 topics on the forum.
Learn about Bootloader mode.
Then go through the ROMs that are posted on the forum. Go through their change log, features, tweaks and programs that come with the ROM. Usually most of the Chefs post Change Logs and Screen shots of their ROMs. Go through the last few pages of the thread to know about any issues and solutions.
Then decide on the ROM you are interested in and go ahead with flashing your deivce.
Now, regarding the current state of your deivce... I am not really sure what exactly you did.
Try Removing the battery and put it back.
While holding down the Volume Down button, press the Power button. Your phone will enter the Bootloader mode (Tri color screen, rather 4 clolored sceen with White at the end).
Download one of the Stock ROMs they are also called Ship ROMs. Please do not download ROMs with version number 1.56.XXX. They are the latest ROMs and since I am not sure what state your device is in, I would recommend you to download a 1.14.XX version Stock ROM.
Then connect your device while in Bootloader mode and run the Stock ROM. You would get your device back to the original state that you bought it.
Thanks

Read the instructions properly. Here's the simplified version:
1. Flash a stock rom (e.g. 1.14.xxx) with 1.14 SPL. They also include the stock radio.
2. Flash stock SPL 1.14
3. Flash a 1.56.xxx stock rom (with 1.54 SPL). It also includes a new stock radio.
4. Run USPL 2.5(!).
5. Run the included RUUWrapper and install dutty's rom
kieboy
3. Flash a 1.56.xxx stock rom (with 1.54 SPL). It also includes a new stock radio.
do you have a link for that?
sorry
I found it myself, but thanks for the help
I've tried to download the ROM, but HTC tell me this "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device".
Maybe my device s/n number is not correct.
Maybe someone who has the correct s/n could download this ROM~
Just tell you guys the news~

It seems HardSPL 1.40oli and this 2.32 rom don't work very well.Very sluggish and phone can't turn ON even after 2 Hard resets.
What is your experience???
Do not install if hard spl
I installed the ROM upgrade from HTC, it ****ed up my device real bad: phone module not working, device boot up in aprox 1 min, after 3 mins Touch Flo not started, it restarts by itself.
I did hard reset and nothing happens.
I,m reinstalling jademan superrom!
I hope that works!
Could anyone check, if the gps-support has been improved?

Exactly same symptoms. I went to Stock SPL 1.40 and reflashing the new rom now. Hope it works better
update : Jade is fine now. New SPL is 2.32.0000 . More testing to be done.
Question : Can HardSPL 1.40.oli be flashed over new 2.32.0000 ?

It is annoying that hardspl doesnt work with this upgrade of jade.. can't built a rom now with the new oem. It's all newer than the iolite versions, but still doesnt include Footprint
Any changes in Manila? New tabs? Calendar? Stocks? Changes in the contacts?
Hi
What is the Radio version in this new ROM?
I have just applied the version from here and if this contains the old Radio then I can hold off for now until hopefully a compliant Hard-SPL is made, I can live without Opera being perfect.
Hi all,

Install a different rom from this forum-> Shut down your jade, unplug it. Hold down "volume down button" and ""power on button" to get in to boot mode. now start to flash another rom.
when finished you can install stock spl and then install this new rom
Stupid (or not so stupid) question,
If we flash original SPL to instal this ROM, and SPL is upgraded by this ROM to 2.32,.... and HardSPL does not work with this new 2.23 SPL,.....
THEN, IT SEEMS THAT FOLLOWING THESE STEPS WILL ONLY MAKE US SLAVES OF THIS NEW & OFFICIAL HTC ROM!!!! i.e. No possibility of other ROMs flashing until new HardSPL is developed,...
Please, somebody to confirm this statement?
Thanks,
Jarel

that's right.. but i think it's in one of the drivers. using the old drivers and the new oem/sys makes it possible to run it with the current hardspl.
radio in this rom 0.41.30.12
no changes in manilla tabs, don't know what changed but it's newer
Before i put back the original spl and my ROM that i got with the phone i thought i should ask if anyone have an idea of what has gone wrong with my phone.
Right now i have HSPL on my phone, i think the name is 1.56 olinex, my radio is 1.14 and my ROM is kwbr topix 3.5 WM 6.1
Over the last months i have tried at leas 20 different cooked ROMS but the always end up with some kind of problem that i did not have before. The phone hangs, the wifi dont work, i can have a ROM on for a week without a problem, sometimes just an hour.I have read every thread there is about it, but i dont find any solution. I do perform task 29 prior to flashing, i have flashed back my original ROM, downloaded from HTC and tried to install a cooked ROM after that, but it doesnt help, the problems are the same.
I can mention that i dont have those problem when i have my orignal ROM on( the one that i have downloaded from HTC).
I would be very glad if anybody could help me cause i dont want my stock ROM back, its so boring.
Thank you for listening.

did you perfom 2 hard resets after flashing?
Flash a stock rom and see if that helps..

The biggest problem, in my opinion is that the phone hangs, (turns off itself) and the wifi dont work. But maybe its just something that happens to everybody that is not using the stock ROM or am i wrong there.

Just to make things clear here, when everybody it talking about that it could help flashing a stock rom before you flash a custom rom, do you then mean install the rom that you download from HTC, or a stock rom that you can find in the forums here. The thing is with the stock rom from HTC you dont have to put the phone in its bootloader to flash. If the answer is that i should flash a stock rom that i can find here in the wiki, what rom should i use then, there are like 30 different ones.
Forca
Here is an other question about stock ROMS. Does anybody know if there is a stock ROM with color icons and the my location function? Do i have to have HSPL or USPL on my phone to but a stock rom on it, or does it work with the original SPL.
Forca
I would recommend performing a task 29, then flashing a stock rom from the wiki on these forums. Once flashed then reflash a custom rom. Let us know how you get on. Also, not to point out the obvious, ensure you having matching SPL with rom

Its wm6.5 so would have a base of 1.56+ which is compatible with your SPL. All roms based on 1.56+ are compatible with HSPL 1.56
As I mentioned earlier, try a task 29 and restore stock rom from wiki, then reflash custom rom. Also, try and make sure that your radio and rilphone match. Should improve signal/reception and possibly performance

Thank you for helping a noob out here One more noobish question, how do i know if the rilphone and the radio match?Right now i have the radio 1.14 and i found this cab http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610927, i am not sure if the match, but if the dont what do i look for when i want to download the rilphone file?
Hi. Seems like the only thing you haven't tried is the reapply the HSPL. I've heard that it can sometimes get screwed up and this may account for the problems you're having. Obviously applying the HSPL is risky because if it goes wrong you have yourself an expensive waper weight. Good luck.
Just to get it right, when i flash a stock ROM do i have to wait until its completely installed(i mean booting up installing windows, setting time and date), until i flash my custom ROM or can i just pull out the battery when the smart mobility shows up

Hmmm.... I'm using USPL with no problems, so it's not necessary to have HSPL on your phone (depending on ROM).
I used USPL with Topix 3.5 WM 6.1 weather sense, so there should be no problem too.
Normally I do HR when ROM shows alignment screen.
Ah, yes... and I flash stock ROM from HTC site....

So in other words it could work to flash my old original rom with the original radio on, undo my HSPL to the original SPL, then get USPL on the phone and flash Topix 3,5?

Alright i did what you recommended last night; flashed swedish stock ROM with radio 1.13, performed task 29, flashed Topix 3.5 with Windows 6.1 and sense weather, hard reset 2 time.
1 Wifi dont work, when i turn it on, it turns off, i then install the my location rilphone cab that i mentioned, and start up the phone again, now it works.
In the morning when i am writing this, it still works.
Will keep you updated once a day here.

One more thing to try with the WiFi to make it work
Go to Comm manager in settings and make sure that WiFi is OFF
Switch OFF the phone (not soft reset but switch it OFF so that it shuts down all processes properly
Reboot the phone after 10 seconds
Switch on WiFi and see if that cures your problem
I have noticed sometimes after a soft reset my WiFi dosent work but switching off forces it reset itself
Hope that helps

Mmmm.... maybe you should update to Radio 1.14... I was not satisfied at all with 1.13...
And most cooks have habit of cooking rilphone in their ROMs, but not radio...
So far I found that rilphone 1.14 works with almost any radio.
