TMob Compact 4 UK What do i need to know? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Well Ive got my mum a new Compact 4 on her Tmobile contract.
I have a few questions before i make any changes to it.
I dont want to void the warranty so sadly i cant flash it with the latest HTC firmware.
I did notice this C4 is using fairly old firmware...
Rom 1.37
Radio .03
Is this unusual? I can imagine once the phones out Tmobile wont supply anymore development for the rom updates. Or even pass on the HTC roms.
And as for Advanced config and the Diamond Toughflo config. Can they be installed on the C4 and change the touchflow background?
At the moment the phone seems to work perfectly fine. So for now the out of date rom isnt really an issue. But i would love to get rid of the pink and keep the warranty at the same time.

Touchflo config and advanced config will work fine on the compact 4, and as you're on the 1.37 rom you wont have any problems loading touchflo themes.
I don't know if there's an official t-mob 1.93 rom out (I havent seen it mentioned on here so I dont think there is). You could go for one of the custom roms but you'd need to hardspl it and you would invalidate the warranty.
I upgraded to the official orange 1.93 rom and haven't really noticed any significant improvements (a few minor things, no major speed increases etc..).
So, if it was my phone, I'd stick with the 1.37 rom and go for a custom theme

Thanks m8

Oh and where can i find Youtube app?

I didn't know t-mob removed it :O
Anyway, you can find it here:

which is from this thread:

Annoying sluggish behaviour - T-Mobile MDA Vario III

I have a T-Mobile UK, MDA Vario III and have to say for me personally this is the best "all-rounder" of the MDA Vario phones I've had so far. I also use phoneAlarm v2.10 (latest) to assist in making profiles on the phone easier to switch between.... one gripe though (and I don't know WHY this happens)...
I'm in the middle of writing a text, or even generally using the phone, and it decides to just stop working for about 5 seconds. All screen and keyboard response just stops! Then it kicks back in again. Very annoying!
Does anyone else have this problem, seen it, or even better still, do they have a fix for this? By the way am also using the default WM6 Pro CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2) that came with it from T-Mobile UK.
yeah i have a fix for your problem, which i suffered from too when i had a mda vario III: flash a new rom!
i am currently running duttys wm6 dualtouch v4 and it is so much better than the t-mobile rom. it has fixed so many issues that i had just taken for granted a permanent problems. Trust me it is like buying a newer better phone, but for free!

Really? Sounds good. Let me see where I can get this from and see the issues. Are there any issue with duttys though? (he says being the old sceptic).
And most importantly what's the battery life like? I got rid of "HTC Home" which chomped battery power like crazy, even using just GSM and not HSDPA.
There were no big issues for me. One thing I did have a problem with was I didn't hard reset the device after flashing the new ROM. This caused a few problems. Once I had done this they went away. The device is alot quicker. One issue I have found is that I can't change the cube icons. A little gripe but no other problems with this ROM otherwise.
Hi bennyb0y,
I had the same problem on this machine. I eventually tracked down my problem to the BBC 24 custom template I was using with Spb Traveler for weather - it was using most of the cpu time! Solution - use another template.
Regards,
Paul
I had the same problem with my vario III and the best thing I've done to date with it was to update to Sleuths ROM. It's damn fast, not buggy, doesn't crash, has all the features you could want and the best thing is, it was so simple to do. Just read the wiki to unlock etc, then follow Sleuths easy instructions. The ROM is called someting like "so many ROMS so little time" V3.0 (or somthing like that).
It does what it says on the tin.

AT&T New 6.1 Rom Radio Problem

Hello everyone...
I bought a used Tilt and unlocked it and flashed it with the newest stock rom.. Now the camera displays a black screen and the audio for programs seems to onyl work sometimes... I ahve another Tilt and know what it shoudl sound like.. I flashed it with the newer AT&T Tilt Rom I got directly from the link from AT&T's website to the HTC download...
The flash worked great besides that... GPS works great, it makes and receives calls fine.. just those 2 problems... I will be selling this 2nd one so I want it to have the newest stock rom... Plus this newer version comes with HTC Home already incorperated...
After doing some reading (yes, I did before I am asking) I figured out it is most likely jsut a problem with the radio... I was wondering if you guys can point me to the correct radio to use with that rom.. I am not too concerned at the moment with which radio will work best with which carrier, etc.. I just really care that it fully functions at this point, so I am not being too picky... Thank you in advance for you advice!
did you search for this problem. Sounds like an issue that is mentioned weekly.

Vario III flased with HTC 6.1 Rom - Slow Rotation

Hello,
I flashed a T-Mobile MDA Vario III with HTC latest official rom (WM 6.1) and now screen rotation on slide out / in is much slower. Sometimes it takes up to 4 seconds.
Any ideas?
Best Regards,
Craig Brass
I can't really point to a solution with the ROM you're using; in fact I'd be willing to guess that it's just a side-effect of that particular ROM - I don't imagine the Radio ROM in your device not being best-suited for the OS ROM would deliver slow screen rotation as a side-effect.
All I can say is that I recently flashed to AthineOS and EVERYTHING is quick on it. Screen rotation when sliding occurs within a second I'd say - it might be slightly over a second, I haven't timed it, but either way it's very quick, and quicker than the T-Mobile WM6.0 ROM...
Anyway, hope you get it sorted... Let us know if you find a solution for your current ROM.
Regards,
Rob.
T-Mobile considerations
I seem to recall HTCs fix for this in their HTC Branded WM 6.1 'upgrade' involved more than just the ROM but if the radio and spl are going to be upgraded as well, people need to make sure there are backups of the originals first because in some countries (and Craig didn't say where he's from or fill in that part of his profile), T-Mobile use customised versions and special network configuration. Perhaps a T-Mobile customer can comment whats reqd from experience? I haven't tried searching but I suspect that'd pull something relevant up as well.
Ok, I flashed with AthineOS as suggested. Nearly perfect. Couple of things :-
1. I flashed the official dialer for the voice calling. Before, when launched, it would show Contacts as the left button. Now it shows Hide Keypad. How do I get it to show Contacts again?
2. TouchFlo 3D shows the calender list but when clicked it launches the default phone calender app. I have Developer One Agenda One Installed and I want it to launch this. How do I do that?

Very laggy

hello, my touch diamond is very laggy and slow.
my rom version is 1.93.407.1 GER
can i do anything that my touch diamond p3700 work faster?
best regards

Some have said that there is a new ROM that HTC have released. Meant to improve them sort of issues. Think its something like 2.02 or 2.03 to look for. I would check that your able to upgrade to that ROM first though before going ahead and doing that. I have a Touch Diamond as well and the device is very laggy at times I find. I've had the device for some time and there does come a point where you think its necessary to do something about it. I've been thinking of getting rid of my Touch Diamond but not for just that reason alone. I have problems in answering and cancelling calls sometimes using the hardware buttons on the phone and when locking by holding down the call end key, sometimes the device does not lock and that does annoy me. However, there are a lot of developments going on all the time to improve the device, some of the problems are simply Windows Mobile though.
It's the developments that go on in this forum and some other places on the net that keep me interested in the Windows Mobile developments for the Touch Diamond.
2.03 rom
this is the latest rom
use the search button and you will find
also many cooked roms using this rom too.
good luck
can everybody Recommend me one rom, where dont crash my touch diamond?
rom with link pls
2.03 Stock rom, go to xda-wiki if yours is CID locked, if not locked, then just get the newest one from htc.com

I have just purchased off ebay this extreemly good phone, I was sick of my nokia e71 and fancied a change, I missed the touch screen of phones ive had in the past.
Question for everyone the firmware seems a little buggy and ive checked on htc;s website but any upgrades wont work with my serial number (the phone is original htc but with 3 software on it)
Does anyone else have this problem with their 3 mobile and has anyone on 3 upgraded the firmware to one of the 6.5 versions available and if so does all the settings still work after the upgrade.
Ive upgraded my last wm phone so im ok at doing it but what I dont want is to lose all settings and not be able to access the internet etc ..
cheers in advance - good to be back on xda site ... never again will I buy a nokia !!!

chris
You may be able to find an original 3 rom someplace ( there isn't one in the wiki ) or you can dump your own rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680
But once you hardspl your phone to flash a custom rom, you will be able to flash anyone's stock rom, Vodaphone,Orange, T-Mobile...........

The Radio effects signal/gps fix/battery life and the outcome of which is best is very much varied by location.
The STICKY in ROM Development holds alot of valuable info from how to flash to Radios etc.
I have the Kaiser on 3. I have changed the ROM several times and the radio once. I have found that the signal is better on the radio I am using and the ROM's are brilliant. WM6.5 is great, just waiting for a stable wm6.5 with the new m2d v2 installed.
Wack one on and have some fun, just hardspl it first.

Kaiser / Tytn II on Three
Hi
I picked up an Orange TytnII off ebay and after putting hard SPL on I have been using many roms fine on three UK
My favourite is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519715
although be sure to check out many of the other excellent roms on here, there is some real talented chef's, I also like the PDA corner roms
Regarding stock I used an orange UK stock rom that also changed the radio, read the instructions well on here as you'll want to make sure you hard reset, stock rom, stock radio, hard reset then 6.5 then radio then another hard reset just to make sure you clear everything.
Regarding radio you can try many different ones, again read the posts you'll find some just don't allow you to make / receive calls if they're not in line with the rom.
I think I have my current setup in my signature.
Also be sure to check out the posts with the iskoot client configured for three's free skype access, getting free MSN is a bit trickier and to be honest the java client is a bit flaky for my liking so I just use it out of my allowance !
pm me if you get stuck
Damian
I have been using this rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507281, found it to be very good.
The radio I have been using is 1710901 but you will have to try a few and see which one is the best for you.
Blinky
just to clarify
so the radio doesnt matter to the mobile phone supplier ..... as long as the radio and new firmware works together it will work on 3 .... ?
ive found a possible firmware but the radio has to be different so its gonna be both upgraded ... im just concerned as 3 software is so tied down that i dont wanna have a non working phone
ive upgraded before on a previous htc phone but didnt have to do radio upgrades .....

I too have an unlocked Orange Tytn II I got on orange contract and unlocked on day 1. Gave Orange sim to the missus and jumped over to three.
I have used a numbe of roms and radios, but currently use Shifu 19 WWE with radio 1.70.19.09. Works perfectly.
I reckon 3 is the perfect network in the UK for Tytn II as PAYG internet allowances are very good.
Its not as tied down as you think. I have the ISkoot WM client running using 3 connections for free calls etc and also SkypeManager running on home PC to get 100% free calls to all uk landlines too. Google SkypeManager.
Have fun!
success
well took the plunge this afternoon and hard spl'd, upgraded rom and radio how easy was that ... finally got a phone that doesnt crash and everything works superb ... settled for stylez black wwe with radio 1.70.19.09
superb thanks for all your help - very happy kaiser owner !!! ....
now I know how easy the process is im sure my firmware will change regularly all you rom makers superb keep up the good work
Dont forget to do the N95 spoof to get free MSN live usage on 3 network.
Ive been on 3 for a while now and think its great, signal isnt allways good where i live though, but what can you expect living at the bottom of the uk.
