Hello,
I was thinking to upgrade our blue angel to WM6, but will all functions of the phone still be availibe (camera, bluetooth, Wlan, touchscreen, calling etc).
Hope you can help me.
Booster666
almost all of those functions that you've mention above are still working flawlessly. (even some feature require us to be so patient to activate it... ) ^_^
cheers..
Yes everything will be working...from A to Zinc...=)

Guys, I read this ROM has Skype built-in, is this correct? I am curious if you guys have problems with WIFI & Skype as described here, and if this ROM/Radio has improved it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15707&highlight=skype
I have problems exactly as described in the link above, After a few seconds into the call, I would be disconnected from Skype. My Internet also “dies” (it still appears to be connected, but nothing will work)… only way to fix is to soft-reset.
This is a really bad drawback b/c a huge reason for getting the Blue Angel was to use VOIP via Skype! :x
btw, What version of Skype is included, and if a new version of Skype PPC is released, how would we go about upgrading it, since it is in the ROM?

The installer for Skype is in ROM, not the actual program. The actual program is in ram, just as if you downloaded it. Version is 1.1.0.7 and yes that is a 7.
Seems to work OK for me, over Wi-Fi I have used it over 12 hours at a time.
THANK you dah54 ... almost had 100 views with no replies.
That is very useful information - I don't see 1.1.0.7 on Skype's webpage http://skype.com/products/skype/pocketpc/ . Wonder what has changed since 1.1.0.6?
It's actually only in the EXTENDED ROM. Which means it is indeed a seperate program, with a cab installer.
You can grab it from the FTP, here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_Operator/Imate/Default_SkypeForPocketPC.CAB
Thanks TheLastOne -- I wandered onto the 1.1.0.7 link earlier and thought maybe a simple Skype upgrade would solve my problems, but no dice.
Went full out and did the 1.40 upgrade with 1.12 radio, and have not had any disconnects yet! Will test it out more later tonight.
Problems fixed.
I can hardly believe it - Skype is working absolutely perfectly with this new ROM and Radio!
No more disconnects with Wi-fi and sound quality is a definite improvement (according to others). I will soon be getting some SkypeOut credits 8)
If anyone is on the pre-1.40 ROMs and having Skype issues, I strongly recommend you to give the upgrade a try. Heck, even those with wifi issues should try it... I know you're out there! -- I've seen quite a few of you with wifi issues while searching through the forums.
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone here with a Himalaya had managed to get the My Location feature (beta) on Google Maps Mobile to work.
For those who haven't seen it, it is a poor man's GPS. It finds your location basically by calculating the distance to the nearest cell towers. It isn't greatly accurate (usually about a 10 block radius) but it would be yet another cool feature that would keep our Himalayas alive
So, anyone tested, had any luck?
I have had no luck with mine (Sydney, Australia).
When you go to the help/about page, it says "Myl: N/A". Apparently it means I am not receiving cell broadcasts, though I have Channel 050 switched on. Apparently it means we don't have the correct API or something?
Discuss!
I could not get "my location" to work over bluetooth (using bluetooth as a network connection, and having the phone on). It seems like it should work over GPRS, but as I don't have any data connection, I can't test it.
Are you using a AKU7 ROM? The older WM6 Hima ROMs had a GPRS issue
Hi again,
I don't think I am using AKU7. I am using the first WM6 Tofclock Rom that came out. GPRS seems to work ok on it (haven't done much testing due to data plan, but I know it works).
I'm still researching, and will get back with what I find.
Thanks for peoples help in trying to get this program "My Location in Google Maps Mobile" working for everyone. If anyone wants to offer knowledge or assistance (or trial possible solutions on their phone), feel free, it will be much appreicated.
It seems the problem has something to do with the RIL API (did Microsoft ever release it?)
To quote someone else:
Some windows mobile phones are working. Its likely that google is using the RIL api to get the cell tower info, as this is abstracted
from the phone hardware, and they don't need to make a device specific implementation.
A lot of WM smartphones don't work, this seems to be because the RIL API requires that the app be signed with a trusted cert, or the phone be adjusted to not require trusted certs to use the RIL API.
This appears to work for some Java based phones, and here google is probably using the requisite Java APIs, where implemented to obtain the cell ID.
Java phones where this is not working probably do not have the requisite APIs implemented.
SO here are a few questions:
1. Is the RIL on the Himalaya the HTC RIL or the MS RIL? If so, is it the full RIL? (I know HTC used a cut down version for a while and stopped using it after the HTC Universal)
2. Does it come with the trusted certificate (as it is a privileged API)?
3. Would it be possible to run the java version on our phones using the java midlet? Would this come with the proper java location api?
Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide, I'm going back to researching it now.

I am currently researching the above three pages trying to wrap my head around stuff.
The My Location feature of Google Maps Mobile has now been tested and works on a relatives Imate JasJam (with a WM6 ROM) in Sydney, Australia. It worked well in Central Sydney, though sporatically in the West Ryde area, and hardly at all on the Central Coast. More than likely due to it swapping between 3G and GSM.
Still trying to get it working on a Himalaya. Any clues?
Has anybody else tested this program? I am trying to see if maybe different radios/Roms will work.... If you have, please detail which WM and which radio you are using. Cheers.
nope not working here too. maps etc loading fine but it says the my location feature is temporarily not available.

Ok, so we all know that this phone has Wifi (Xperia101). My Blackberry through T-mobile had Wifi also, but supported VOIP. I see some ROMs support VOIP. How does one get VOIP without flashing one of these ROMs?
Is there a .cab for this?
Developers, is this hardware or software? I would love to help solve this problem.
Any takers?
Checkout Fring at http://www.fring.com/ - I have checked month ago older version and it was working fine but with main speaker (not this one for phones only), but on headset is ok. There is new version right now and they say it's support X1 so maybe they fixed that.
i use fring since i have my X1 November 2008, the old version was over the mainspeaker, the new version works perfect with the phone (ear) speaker.
So give it an try it is in my eyes the best and it consums lesser battery then all the others
Regards,
cHarOn
Thats very good, becouse even Microsoft Voip works only with mainspeaker on X1.
Hi Everyone...
I have had mt HTC 8925 (AT&T Tilt Branded) for well over a year... I use this phone daily and love it... I have never flashed a new rom to it since I flashed the most updated at the time AT&T stock rom that was out the day I got it... It is still running on WM 6.0 and is great for the most part... Only real modification was I did the reset trick to advoid the bloatware... After trying MANY programs, some I liked & kept... others I removed... I have finally run into a snag where I am willing to flash and start over to fix the issue (my tomtom traffic won't update anymore, and after much trouble shooting, TomTom and myself think I need to "Reset the Tilt to factory settings" or flash it to a new rom... I was hoping to get some advice from you guys to which rom should suite me best... Here are some details..
The phone is unlocked, and I use Einstein Wireless for service... so I do not need AT&T or Tmobile settings on there, and I prefer no hidden proxies or anything... I will manually enter my carriers internet and mms settings..
I use a lot of WiFi as my providors internet service is slower than I would like
I use it as a GPS (with TomTom) almost daily...
I installed the HTC Home Plugin and love it with the weather updates.. would like to have that incorperated with whatever rom
The radio version on stock rom works great for me.. so something when paired to do simmilar settings on that ?
I use the S2P, S2V2, and S2V .... So I can install those or if any rom has them in it...
I have a good sized micro SD (8gb at the moment) so I tend to install jsut about everything onto the SD card.. maybe a rom where that is the defautl location or something ?
I use MS Voice Command daily...
I play games on it regularly.. love works, ka-blom, pac man, emulators, and others...
I use wireless BT2.0 stereo headphones for MP3's and such
I stream music and video from my home computer using orb
I have used IE Mobile, Skyfire, and other browsers.. I jsut want one that works well...
I love an iContact (or type) contact program
As you probalyl guessed, I like it to be as finger friendly in general as possible...
I have used a few programs so I can use the phone as a webcam when connected via USB to my computer, woudl be great if it has that built in as well
MMS/SMS managing software would be great.. I usually keep recent txt's for a while after receiving them... something that say only keep them til you have a certain amount or after a certian amount of time passes would be great....
Of course, I would also like the rom to be very stable as well if that isn;t too much to ask..
I am open to trying to some programs/features that I have not used before... and I don't expect any rom to do everything I have listed above... The main thing will be to get one that I can set up the internet easy enough without having to worry about hidden settigns for AT&T or other such carrier... If you have been using a rom that you really liked that you think would work for me, let me know... Thank you in advance for reading this and sending me you suggestions....

So let me get this right.... You have a standard Tilt, minus the bloatware which you're happy with (and have been) until TomTom stopped working with traffic updates. You're now considering changing the ROM to fix the problem Why not just hard reset after backing up your stuff and do the bloatware free reset trick again? Oh and mods don't like 'ROM Recommendation' type threads (read some of the sticky posts to see why) so if people post saying ROM x is better than y, this thread will probably be locked to stop any arguments breaking out. Also TomTom will be less likely to offer support with cooked ROMs - I was told they wouldn't even support a HTC Default WM 6.1 ROM, only the WM 6.0 ROM the device (and TomTom) came with (one of the reasons why I had my device reverted to WM 6.0). Good luck with your hard reset
+1 on the real issue being Tom Tom traffic, as you seem pretty happy with use and your exisiting configuration. I'd try to find a WiFi hotspot (where Tom Tom can also see satellites) and see if Traffic will update via WiFi. Could be Einstein is blocking Tom Tom traffic over GPRS.
still new to the kaiser/tilt/tytn II, etc(less than a week) so not in a position to really give any real advice, but what helped me in my decision is reading through PureSkillz reviews of the roms and seaching with google outside of xda to see what people are using and that helped me with my decision, T-mobile sux in about every way, so if it is good on T-mobile it'll probably be good on anything else. What I had a hard time on is choosing the right radio for my device but luckily the rom i chose allowed me to use whatever radio i wanted and I am happy with my setup and don't plan to change unless something radical happens in the scene. I am running Tomtom 7 on my rom and it works perfect, but i dont have internet via my provider cause they charge way too much so i use wifi. the one thing i don't like about this rom is lack of landscape support but hey, cant complain if i'm not smart enough to cook my own stuff.
see my choice in my sig below. Aloha
Thanks... It isnl;t an einstein blocking issue.. I already tried the WiFi... The problem started right after I installed igo GPS program to compair the 2... I have since uninstalled igo, but tomtom still wont; connect to traffic.. I talked ot them at tomtom.. they were very frienmdly with troubleshooting.. went htough a million steps.. even gave me an additional free year of traffic as well for the problem, even though it isn;t their fault...
Thank you... I read that... and thought I woudl advoid those "argument" because I wasn;t trying to ask "What is the best rom"... I was trying to ask what rom would work the easiest for me in my unique situation ? That is why I listed how I use to and what software I use... But thanks for the input... I considered just doing the hard reset.... I just thought if now I am wiping my phone and starting over, which rom would give me added advantages...
And on the TomTom not working with 6.1..... My son bought a phone like mine after he saw me using it so much.. when he got his (After me) we grabbed the newest offical rom form HTC's site (he actually uses AT&T prepay, so the AT&T software is ok for him).. It was WM 6.1 and his TomTom software works fine.... So don;t let that stop you from using 6.1
I have downloaded the Athine OS WM 6.5 Final as well as the Hyper Dragan III from Christmas day, 08 as many people reccomened... I have to decide between them now... You have any experiance with either?

Here my catch of the day:
Taken from an other forum (credits goes to lubo777):
http://www.minitelecom.org/downloads/images/voip/WM6VoIPFull.cab
HowTo: http://forum.ppcwarez.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=61730
Worked for me...
Yeah I think I've seen that one before & tried to use it...
Have you tried your GPS since you've installed that? Because I think that one breaks the GPS (at least on the Fuze units) .. and if it IS on a Fuze - is it actually working properly over 3G?
I have another version that I got to work without breaking the GPS - but never been able to get it to work over 3G on WM 6.x ....
Hey - would I recommend it if not ?!?
Sure I did - as I said working like a charm...
I have a TouchPro with the German V3 23001 Pro image (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529794) and as VoIP provider: Sipgate.de. Furthermore I checked that GPS is still working with GoogleMaps and sTevesTeve after install and setup and it was working as before.
With all other SIP setups I tried before, I had the same issue as you mentioned - they all rendered my GPS worthless -
BUT NOT THIS ONE!
Peace!
i gave up and use portsip as you can set the audio output http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508715
Hmmm I also wonder what MrGAN is talking about... for two handsets (WM6.5) voip is not working properly!!!
Its so frustrating with WM6, Microsoft hasn´t any clue about how VOIP has to work on handsets.
Why don´t they learn from NOKIA??? My old E60 is still working beautiful on VOIP. Ringing on the external speaker, voice on the internal speaker. Just no difference between VOIP and GSM.
Microsoft, why is it so hard for you to understand???
