okay the nexus one gallery is borken. watching any videos no matter what source it is from, it will mess up.
99% of the time after watching a couple of videos, it starts screwing up. sometimes it will play 1 frame of the video and then just play the audio. sometimes it will crash and make me force close. this happens to videos that are 100% compatible with the phone, ive even played many of these videos before without trouble, and then randomly it starts causing crashes. sometime it even says cannot play video WHEN THE VIDEO WAS ALREADY PLAYING 100% FINE AND NOW IM FORCED TO CLOSE THE VIDEO!!.
i went from an iphone 3g to a nexus one, ended up spending allmost twice as much for a phone that cant even play videos.
i need help, this is very frustrating.
EDIT: also every time i restart my phone, i get the error that the process com.android.launcher2 and stopped working, and force close is th only option. this happens EVERYTIME!. i have not done anything that could harm my phone, infact i rarely even use it outside of web browsing, calling and texting, and maps.
So since Rogers updated us to froyo (yes this is the canadian i896 model) I've been having the problem lately where it just won't play media files anymore.
I'll notice this when I go to watch a youtube video and it'll say "problem playing touch to retry", then I'll go try to play an mp3 and it'll say "cannot support this file type", so I'll check a video and get the same. The pisser is that it won't play notification sounds or ringtones either as it seems to be all connected.
Now these are files that played fine only some time ago, so I dont' know what caused it to stop being able to play.
If I power down / power up the phone things are back to being copacetic. Just a pain as it takes about a minute to power down, and then at least a minute to boot back up.
Samsung suggested i just reset the whole phone - which I'm not enthused to lose a lot of data (some of my programs just don't allow backups).
I've taken the scientific approach and run each of my programs one at a time with after running it, checking it with with a media player to see if it'd stop working. nothing.
I've deleted/uninstalled a lot of programs to ensure it was running on only what i truly wanted. nothing
I just don't want to reset my phone - that would suck.
It just seems to happen at random. Literally I watched a video, put the phone down, went to bed, woke up the next morning and it didn't play. Now who know s what background apps were going on... but how can I control that..
any help/suggestions?
I have the same phone with the same issue
I have a new theory-
I noticed that it happens after I get a notification that my battery is full.
It sounds silly but it's the only thing I noticed that affects it.
I'll keep on testing..
heard the official twitter app causes some issues - uninstall it to fix
i uninstalled - so we'll see if it fixes
Hey I haven't seen this posted yet, so I thought I'd ask about it.
Does anyone else have a problem using their device with Netflix, casting to Chromecast, then it somehow losing connection? This is happens on both my Nexus 7 "flo" and Nexus 4. I turn on the TV, switch to the Chromecast input, etc. Then I boot up Netflix on my tablet, select an episode, then cast to my TV. After it's started, I'll press the power button on my tablet to turn off the screen, and set it aside. When the episode is over I try to pick the next one by turning on my tablet, opening Netflix, and then selecting the next episode. 80% of the time, it won't work. The Netflix app loses connection or something.
This is what I've noticed when this happens: When I first press the power button my tablet to turn on the screen, the Chromecast lock screen comes up with a picture of my show, then the usual pause/rewind/stop controls. If I try pressing one of those, the tablet shows that it worked, but does not do anything to the show that is playing on Chromecast i.e. I press pause, the pause button switches to the play button, but the episode keeps playing. If I press back, unlock the tablet, then open the Netflix app, it opens up to the current episode with all the controls and the seek slider. Again, any controls seem to work on the tablet, but nothing on Chomecast/TV. I also notice that the seek slider is stuck at 00:00. If I try to switch episodes by hitting the little "i", then pressing play on one, it won't go anywhere. The button "presses", but Netflix sits like I didn't press it. Now, if I try to get into the Netflix app by using the Notification panel, it tries to open Netflix but just sits there at the Netflix app splash page, with the red Netflix logo, and the spinner at the bottom to show it's loading the app. That goes on indefinitely.
There is no way to change what is happening on Chromecast unless I force quit Netflix, clear the cached process, then boot up Netflix again. Then, it'll pick up on the cast and I can change episodes and control whatever. Again, this happens probably 80% of the time. Anyone have any idea what's going on? It's kind of annoying since by the time I force quit Netflix, clear the cached process, boot up Netflix, and finally change episodes, the credits have all rolled and I'm sitting at the "Ready to Cast" page. If this is a common problem, I'm sorry. I searched for anything similar, and I also read the first 3 pages for anything like this and nothing came up.
Your not the only one. My connection to the ChromeCast drops all the time with Netflix and sometimes with the Google apps also. However with mine I have to restart my phone to connect again. Force closing and clearing the cache does nothing for me. I have tried the CC on 4 different WiFi routers and I get the same problem with all of them, so I am thinking it is the CC itself. Hopefully future updates will fix connection stability.

Same problem. It's super annoying
Same here.
This didn't happen to me until the update to build 13300 - that ironically included "more robust wifi performance" or words to that effect.
I get it with YouTube although less often than with Netflix.
Wonder if I'd get flamed trying to add this to their defect tracking system?
Edit and PS - I did my best to let someone know.

Same here. My CC has been dropping connection since day 1. I have tried couple of routers and resting the device to factory conditions. Once I am able to connect, I can watch a movie for 30 minutes and after that the connection to CC is lost on my phone, nexus 7 or my laptop. I have to restart cc to regain connection. Google support is not able to troubleshoot.
Just to follow up: Since the last few Netflix updates I don't seem to have this problem anymore.
I'm still having it.
I also have the same problem with Netflix and the Chromecast

I have the same problem, often the cc button isn't even showing in the Netflix app, or if it is showing, it is only for a short while. And controlling it while it plays (when the button was there to use), is mostly impossible.
In YouTube/music it looks to be working fine, but netflix, forget it.

Same way here. Updates seem to have resolved it. The Netflix app itself is still horribly slow and TV shows don't autoplay but that's not really a chrome cast problem.

With me, it is the opposite, unless you are talking about updates I don't have yet (my app is the latest there is from the store). Worked fine (as far as I can remember) for two weeks, stopped working a few days ago.
However, I have been tampering with my modem to get netflix US in my country (there is a local netflix, but I wanted the US version). Allthough music and youtube don't seem to have a problem, it might conflict with the netflix app/service?
I've been tampering with nothing and updating nothing but the problem subsided for me these past few days.
My Chromecast led was blinking quickly for a while in the middle of the night a few nights back. I don't know if that's normal.
But I'm still at 13300 and the problem has subsided.
Same here. What's confusing is that I never had this issue with my CC until a few weeks ago. Netflix, Youtube, Play Music, etc all worked fine and my CC never lost connection.
Now ...I have to reboot CC every single time as the Chromecast becomes undiscoverable about 30 minutes into a Netflix movie. I can no longer pause, stop, etc. I've meddles with my router settings and even replaced it with a new router ...but still the same issue. It's getting beyond frustrating because it seems that it's a widespread issue but neither Netflix or Google is even acknowledging it.

Having the same issue with Netflix. The odd thing is the chrome cast app can still interact with the device, and I can reboot it that way.

Lately it seems that my stock Note 5 plays videos once out of every 5-6 tries. It struggles to play videos I recorded too. Most of the time when I try to play a YouTube video it will play the first few frames then starts to stutter then stop playing altogether. I thought it was a YouTube thing so I uninstalled it's updates, cleared data and disabled it, then re-enabled it, updated it and still had issues. I also have noticed I have the same issue with Snapchat, Facebook, TheCHIVE and other apps. I'm running stock 5.1.1. I read somewhere about going into developer settings and turning off NuPlayer and use AwesomePlayer instead. I tried that but it yielded the same result. Does anyone have any other ideas? I really don't want to wipe the phone.
Anyone? I cant seem to find the root cause of the issue :/
Ever since I bought my Nokia 8, I haven't been able to play any Facebook videos smoothly. I click on the video, it starts and stops. Then I have to hit the play button over and over. Sometimes it pauses, shows the loading thingy but audio keeps going and finally it crashes the app and re-opens it at the beginning of my timeline. I am hating this problem so much. I contacted Nokia support twice and after making me uninstall and reinstall the app again they came to the conclusion it's FB's fault. They say it may be also my internet connection which I am sure is wrong as I use other six devices at home and work and all work perfectly but my Nokia. I submitted a report on Facebook but they haven't responded yet. Does someone here have a similar issue? Should I take it to warranty to have them check it out? Thanks!
Hmm strange I have no issue like that. Have you tried some other app like YouTube or Vimeo.
Try the Facebook web page also.
I used to have that issue but not noticed it so much these days. Specially after going to oreo beta. Videos used to stop like a thumbnail and audio used to play in the background. Worked only is full screen till I moved the slider to rewind or move forward and that used to crash the app every single time. Multiple feedbacks given to Nokia and FB and I am not sure which one fixed it but it is working AOK now.
Calm down. It's an issue with the facebook app, not with the phone. A lot of people including me faced this issue regardless of the phone make.
