How to open the battery cover? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Does anyone know how to open the battery cover of Tilt?

Seriously?
You push on the cover, then push up, away from the buttons...

haha thanks alot, never thought it was that easy

I had to look in the manual the first time
It's easy, but if you don't press at the right place it won't move

Unfortunately, I am one of those stuck here. I bought my Kaiser (AT&T branded Tilt) three days ago. I even have an image illustrating where to push but the thing will not move. I tried pressing lightly, very hard... still nothing.
Any hints?

Yep, keep trying ... you press more or less in the center upwards - use 2 thumbs if you have to!

do you people ever try something first, then post?
moreover create a thread...

It can be very stiff when new. The fingers of each hand are just to steady the phone. The thumbs do not need to be pressed hard into the battery cover. The force should be directed in the direction of the arrow in your picture. If it does not budge, do not press harder onto the battery cover but apply more push in the arrow direction.

well, if its stuck so bad you may try to use THIS tool to open it up...

As everyone knows, Apple fans use only Apple-certified battery removal Stanley Tool.

I think a friend of mine found the way to open his iphone... by having it fly out of his hand and land on a concrete ground on the edge. The faceplate is sticking out 1mm and he can't get it back in place.. luckily no functional damange though, pretty impressive

Kaiser Hinge Problem!!! PLS HELP!! :(

Hi, i recently got my HTC KAISER,
unfortunately, the case that came with it to me is terrible, until now because of it, the phone fell from my hand 2 times until now. i have a feeling that the hinge is a bit loose from the screen. does anyone know how to tighten it back to the screen? from the right hand side there is about 2mm gap, and it makes a sound when i touch the screen since it hits the back.
any help, is appreciated.. esp if they are productive.
Thnx in advance
How can we help fix it if it was dropped? You didn't even provide any pics of it and I highly doubt we can help you. If its damaged its damaged, and your only course of action is to take it back and see if its under warranty and cross your fingers. I wish you the best of luck and hope someone can repair it for you. As far as the case I totally know how flimsy they are.
What does this have to do with XDA development?
Try the ATT wireless forums. This forum is for development.
what a couple of unhelpful posts, have we no mercy? this forum is full of topics that are 100% kaiser but 0% development, why are you picking on the poor guy with the (possibly) broken phone? and why direct him to some AT&T forum when he's already said it's an HTC branded phone? if you're going to kick a man when he's down, at least read his post properly first.
to the op: I feel your pain. in my first couple of weeks with the kaiser I must have dropped mine a dozen times, I think it's something to do with the extra weight. anyway, I too had some issues with the screen afterward - at one point their was a definite gap between the screen and keyboard as you described. I really noticed it and worried at first, but after a few days use and pocketwear, I found it pretty much closed up by itself. similiarly, i've found times where the top half of the phone has become misaligned to the left or right, so it overhangs slightly - this can be cured with a gentle but firm push the other way. I think the whole mechanism has been designed with a bit of give in it, so it can take odd knock without shattering, but still be nudged back into place without any real damage done. My advice - keep using it, slide and tilt it a few dozen times, and see if it falls back into shape. if it doesn't, try a firm but gentle push in the right direction, and if *that* doesn't work then take it back. but don't take any nonsense in the shop - insist on a warranty repair.
What are you talking about? I was blunt and straight to the point with the op. I told him we can't do anything and where he needs to go. I'm not gonna hold someones hand and tell them everything is gonna be fine and there's light at the end of the tunnel. He made a thread with NO pics to even show us what is going on so are we suppose to guess?
You don't have to be a customer of ATT forums to post there. The Kaiser design and the Tilt design are identical except for logos and the front cam.
The discussion would probably be better there instead of xda-developers

there may be people on the forum that are famaliar with taking apart the Tilt and tightening the hinges. this is why he posted.
Thnx for the support
Thnx for all of the support until now....
i am begining to accept the fact that i can bear the hinge problem which might not be a problem since the aligning is ok slightly loose, but today in the morning, i noticed that after the fall, the "start" button of the keyboard is sticking out, is there anyway to stick.fix it back in like the rest of the keys (something similar to the laptop buttons, by pushing it in, in a way??)
thnx for all of the support.
There is a thread around here some where that has a ZIP or a link to a PDF file that shows you how to take the phone apart. The reson for the PDF was to show you how to make the screen tilt even more than what it does stock. Search for it, I dont have the link, but I have seen it and read it on these forums.
pls
any ideas concerning the keyboard problem?
The start is not in its place no more, it is somewhat hanging...
plssss help...
thnx

As am I. Again. We're not mind readers. If you have a hardware problem you post pics and point-out exactly what's wrong so people can trouble shoot it. Take it to at&t like the first post suggested. I think a few of you need a cab that installs common sense before you post.

The dismantling guide that Grizzley refers to is available here (Tonychen's guide):www.mikechannon.net (in the manuals section)
To the posters that don't like the OPs post:
If the post had been made in the Upgrading Forum then I would join you in saying this is not a development or upgrading matter. However the post was made in the regular Kaiser section and is therefore a completely legitimate post. In fact, we have a tradition of trying to help those that want to dis-assemble their device for whatever reason. Even if they don't, but just need more info on the mechanics of the device then that is ok too. Thinking of the TyTn/Hermes, a fix was found for the loose keyboard problem via dismantling procedures and physical examination of the device. Problems can be physical as well as software related, so don't be too narrowly focused in this general Kaiser forum.
I do agree with those that say you must give full details and pics if at all possible with this kind of problem, otherwise we are left guessing and possibly wasting time suggesting things that maybe inappropriate.
Mike
Pictures are here
Here are the pics...
look at the "start" button, it is not completely removed, it is hanging on like this....
look at the gap from the right hand side (Power + camera button side) is bigger that the gap from the sim slot side, therefore generating a plastic tap sound when pressing on the screen from the right side. as you can see in the pics, the gap is bigger than the paper clip size.
any suggestions for reducing the gap, and fixing the "Start" button?
any suggestions?????
help would be appreciated!
Ok, after seeing what's wrong you def need to take it back to the store you bought it from. Ask them if they can sen it out for repair. They'l most likely give ya a temp phone til it comes back. Now, it's probably not gonna be covered for obvious reasons, however, it might be cheaper to have them repair it rather than buy another one. Worst case scenario you could replace it with a refurb. Refurbs are excellent and some you can't tell if they're refurbs to be honest. Cost is approx $149, plus shipping. Let us know what they say when you take it back.
Other than taking it to the store, any possible suggestion that i could take action on by my self to fix this issue quickly?
because they will ask me to leave it with them for a couple of weeks!
I know cnn.cn does sell replacement parts, if your willing to do the repair yourself. Sorry I cant help anymore

jon_k's post was over 20 days ago, and he's already been corrected by a mod. Before this gets out of hand, let me remind you to not feed the trolls!
With the help of the link above you will be prepared to open the Kaiser. OK, you have to have the tools mentioned and do take a deep breath before you start, but as soon as you start the process is simple. Print out the photo's and write on the paper the colour and type of the screws you removed.
The glued on case above the battery compartment is the meanest of them all to remove and thats where you start with. So when that is done in about 5 minutes you can discover the buttons from the inside and in 10 minutes you come to the hinges where you find a total of four philips screws to tighten.
Beware for one thing though. The black plate which holds the slider system is held by six torx screws. Check them too, but don't tighten them too much or you will end up with a broken screw. Guess how I know

I know responderman had done the swap of the housing already. He might have some information along with pictures on it. If you don't get any replies or find anything let me know and I'll see what I can come up with. I too myself will need it anyway. My housing should be here any day now.

I am so frustrated. After ordering my housing, it finally came today (2 wks late), only to find out it's the X7500 housing. Not only that but getting out the car it fell on the face and got a slight scratch on the side. I will attempt to reach out to the supplier and see why they have false advertising on their site. I'll see how the return works out.

ok, so p29-33 seem ok, how does the bottom panel (with the battery cover) slide off?
also, what about the vueflo button, does that just get pushed in and then the internal unit slides out?
thanks for your help, i too ordered off order-bulk, the black case, what is difference to x7500 case?
also, navi rubber button, does the rubber bit in center pull out, then reveals a screw? or does the whole bit screw off?

you pull the navi rubber out, under it there is an screw, unscrew it and take the joystick, take out the power and comm manager/record bottoms
the top part is taken by starting from the corner ( next to the front camera) and continuing through to the other side (be careful with the volume bottom
pull the two plastic layers ( one in the corner other near the centre)
to take the plastic at the bottom, remove the screws and careful take the part
Now you should have a metal case opened at top and bottom, slide the internal parts towards the top
I didn't find it easy so read the manual until all is clear and good luck.
got mine today, no vueflo replacement button, and case bottom cover is warped! grrrr, peed off now, got an orange 'hole' where the vueflo was lol! (which apparently you can leave in place, same for 'ok' and 'menu' buttons on left, as theyre attached to the case, not the internal housing, which will slide out past them with no trouble! - hindsight eh!? marvellous thing!!!).
oh, and my rubber nipple cover pinged off somewhere into the obscurity of my carpet, great!!
edit: just a note, you don't have to take the battery bottom case part off first. you can do that once it's all slid out. much easier, as you can get to the little buggery clips without hassle!

Safety chord

Surprised me there isn't any topic about this yet. One of the pro's of the Xperia is that it has a safety chord pin at the bottom which I'm glad they made that. I can't find anything for this however. Anyone happen to be able to give me any directions on where to start. A shop, keyword, anything?
I'd really like this for when I'm on my bicycle because I'm really scared I'm gonna drop it sometime in the future and completely waste it with such a stupid accident. And it has already almost slipped out of my hands several times. One friend of mine trashed his pocket PC by accidentally dropping it while cycling and another scarred the face of it for life.
I'm thinking about making one by myself if I really can't find one.

Should I break the tab off the back cover?

I really hate that tab . But if I break it off... will the back cover stay on and I can just easily remove it from now on without the tool/pin/pen/ect.?
Try it? A replacement cover is pretty cheap. Just make sure you order one first.

The whole purpose of asking was to try it without requiring a new back cover

Same here. I just got a D4 yesterday. Tried to get the back off to insert my memory card, failed with a pen and with a paper clip (no key, or whatever they call it, was included), took it to Verizon where they opened it up. They seemed surprised that that was all I wanted, haha. Didn't actually buy anything. Just walked out with the back cover and phone in separate hands. Inserted the card when I got home, searched to see if anyone had ever just broken that damned thing off, found this thread, did it myself...success! The back cover now works just like any normal one. It's as secure as the cover of my LG Revolution, or more, and no more hassle or ridiculous key to keep track of. And actually, I think because of the way the little hooks slide in, it's less likely to go flying off when dropped than the Revo's is.
You don't need a key anything to poke in the hole. Just finger nails to push along the top seam. Cover comes off quite easily.
Have you tried just pressing with all your fingers on the center of the cover and sliding down? I was at verizon today and thats what the lady who helped me did. Works just fine. I dont think ill ever stick anything in the hole again.
Sent from my DROID4 using xda app-developers app
I wonder if the precision with which the back is made isn't great so that different phones vary in the ease of opening. For me it didn't matter where I applied pressure, it just wouldn't open. And believe me, I tried it everywhere, and held in one hand, two hands, laying flat on a table, etc. But yeah, at least on mine it doesn't seem to need the tab at all. The back is still very secure without it.

Mine definitely isn't loose at all. There's no wiggle room in any direction. Tapping lightly doesn't nothing, but pressing firmly gives a nice solid click, just as you would expect.
I'd exchange it through TMO before your window closes. That is, if it bothers you (and it would bother me).

they're all like this. have yet to come into contact with one where there isn't at least a slight bit of movement vertically. i believe this was intended and how it was designed.
@whittikins might want to try putting on glasses and check again. it's an extremely tiny bit of movement, very hard to see unless you're really looking for it.

OP didn't have to look for his. He said that tapping it lightly makes it move and is loose. Mine doesn't and is not loose at all. The only movement I can get is by pressing just enough to not click it and putting pressure up/down (toward the top/bottom of the screen). I can detect a slight movement, but it's silent and not at all like OP describes. Pushing against the edge of the button with my fingernail in any direction doesn't result in any movement. I have to be pressing down and purposely pushing it sideways to see anything.

My home button is firm but it does wiggle a bit.
But whats bothering the most is the battery life!
I also have a black one and just picked it up Sunday here is Australia. I have taken it back and had it replaced as the Mobile provider agreed that it was a fault. The new one now also has the same issue.
I have also found a video on youtube that shows the noise that it makes as it is so loose. www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=Y5FoWeDGQZ4 (not able to post link as I am new)
Contacting Samsung customer support was not much use but they said that it can be sent in to look at but will be charged if no fault it found. I believe it to be Faulty.
this is a massive hassle to be without a phone for who knows how long... not impressed.

Same issue here. The left side of the home button rattles a little bit when i press lightly on it. Should i exchange or is it normal?

Both my wife and myself got the blueish black ones. Hers is rock solid, no movement. Mine has a slight wiggle if I apply a little pressure. Haven't decided if I want to go in and have them open up boxes until they find a solid one. It's really not a issue so what do you guys think? Worth my time to go in or just deal with it?
