Need service - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Does anyone offer upgrade rom service, I have a HTC 8125 and wont the latest rom installed but I'm handicap and can not do it myself so can some point to to a low cost service

Not to pry, but how are you handicapped, it is a pretty simple process.

handicap
I have little use of my hands and arms and legs and my eyes are getting reel bad and some other problems

Are you able to plug in your device to be synced/charged? if you can do that, and use your pc mouse, you can flash a new rom.
My dominant arm has been useless since a bad fall, I've had several surgeries on it and am currently in a cast...and on major painkillers which make me loopy, and I am able to flash a new rom. As long as the device can get plugged in, flashing is easy.
I do not know of any service that does this. Perhaps a friend can help. Unlocking the device is super easy if you follow Dr. P's sticky, and once done, flashing a new rom is a point and click deal. Dr. P makes the whole process idiot-proof, so find a 3rd grader and pay said 8 year old $5, pull up Dr. P's sticky and wait 20 minutes. It is much cheaper than finding a service, and truthfully it is that easy. My son who is a 2nd grader helps me when I am in a cast. I flash new roms as often as I change underwear (so either that's a new rom pretty much daily or really crusty undies...and my undies aren't crusty).

Would you recommend a Kaiser to a friend?

Or me?
I can't recommend a Treo 750 to a friend based on my experience (even though it's been tolerable with WM6).
What's the point of this poll? Every person has different needs. I have lots of friends I would never recommend a Tilt to. Has nothing to do with issues of the phone, its just that a PPC is not right for them.
I actually have a good friend right now that was looking at a Tilt when I bought mine. I've already told him he'd probably be happier with a BlackJack than the Tilt. Why? Because he needs a phone and doesn't really need (or even want) a PDA (he has told me he never liked Palm's in the past). As I've told him, and lots of other people, PPC's are PDA's with phone capabilities. Smartphones are Phones with PDA capabilities. There is a huge difference between the two. There is also a big difference in the types of people that use the two different devices. Heck, i work in a high tech company (I think Microsoft is the only software maker larger than us) and most of the people I work with had an 8125 or Apache device in the last year or two. Most of them hated it, but they were forced to buy it. Sure, part of that hate was due to how crappy WM5 and the official roms were on the Wizard and Apache, but most hated them because they just wanted a phone. Now most of these people have BlackJacks and they love them. Its because they now have a usable phone with hard keys, and it has the ability to do cool things that smartphones can do.
Then, of course, a lot of people (most?) would be better off with a Razr or similar. The just need a phone and nothing else.
So how am I to answer a poll like this? If you are asking for yourself, then I'd need to know more about you, what you are like with computers and other technology, and whether you are looking for a PDA / mini computer, or are you looking for a Phone as your primary device. If you are the right type of person, then yeah, in my less than one week of experience with the Tilt, I'd highly recommend it to you. I even still recommend picking up a Wizard or Hermes for that matter if I think a PPC is what that person needs (I just let them know they should upgrade the rom to make the most of it).
I tell people the same thing I tell them about my carputer - it's only for people who enjoy hacking around a bit and are really comfortable with computers.
I've been able to turn my Kaiser into so much because I can hack my way around and figure things out. I am not confident that many of my friends could do the same.
So I while I would certainly recommend it to my tech-minded friends - in a hearbeat, in fact - to my non-techie friends I would probably suggest getting an iPhone. Easy to use, cool, but not too heavy on advanced features - in other words, it does everything a non-techie would want.
I would recommend it to friend shopping for a PPC and wanting to select a good PPC.

Damn... Why read so much into everything???
I'll re-word it for you... "Are you happy with your Kaiser?"
Never! I like to be unique and if I recommend it, then I won't be the only one in my circle who has one
ok, ill just put it in simple terms.
The Kaiser is the ultimate PDA for someone who is a Data User and is on a 3G network, it's just seems so convenient to slip it out and search something or do something for a period of time on it. For me, this phone is for the power user
i wouldn't recommend this phone for someone using this phone on a non 3g network, whereas a P4350 would come handy with its edge and its decent processor. I DO NOT recommend the Kaiser if your a big talker on your phone and talk over of 2.5+ hours a day and like to do web browsing at the same time without ever hooking it up to a dock station or car charger.
the truth is, this phone is mainly for the power user and if anyone owned a HTC Tytn and liked it, this is only the perfect upgrade
I already bought one for my brother, so I guess yeah I would recommend it. I do agree with others here though, it is definitely for the more tech-savvy.
Non of my friends/family are "Tech Savvie" and I would not recommend any pda based phone. If they needed a pda type phone then yes I would recomend a Kaiser. It offers the most functionality of any current device. It is "Horses for Courses" My Mother in law can just about cope with a Nokia 3210. My Brother is happy with his SE K800i as he can leave his Ipod and Camera at home. Me I prefer to have the latest and greatest and most feature packed that is available at reasonable/no cost. I am happy to be at the Bleeding edge of technology and actually enjoy having to trackdown fixes, hacks and apps as long as I can get a result.
Depends on the person. If their usage pattern is like mine, then yes. If they just want a simple phone then obviously no.
Moderator,
Please look at this so called poll and see it as overwhelming 'FOR' and remove with result posted.
Thanks.

New (but not green) to this forum AND this phone!

Hello all! I look forward to filling my brain with info about how to trick my diamond out to the max. I'm not new to installing apps and roms. The phone I owned up until last week was the Siemens SX66 (aka HTC Blue Angel). Had it for 5 years. It met it's demise about a week ago by falling out of my pocket and falling from the 2nd floor balcony to the concrete ground on the 1st floor.....END OF PHONE. Decided to stay within the HTC series, as I think they are a great phone maker. I searched around for a mixture of budget vs. quality. Didn't care if I had the newest model of a phone, only that it was "smart" enough for how I like to play with them. I had done MANY rom flashes and app adds to my sx66, so I'm very familiar with doing that stuff. I searched on EBay for about a week and ran across a phone dealer that sells demo model phones for used prices. Sure enough, he was selling a touch diamond (1) floor demo model for $175.00. I snatched that puppy up QUICK. When it arrived, the phone condition was FLAWLESS. Not a scratch, not even a fingerprint was on it. Still had the original factory screen protector on the screen! Came in the original box with ALL accessories and documentation. He could have sold this phone as NEW and no one would have known the difference, except for the absence of shrink wrap on the box. Anyways, I look forward to tricking this phone out. It came with wm 6.1 installed. There's something called a HARDspl that I have to install before flashing it? Gotta learn about THAT first. Don't even know what that is. Also, just ordered a 2850mah extended life battery, included with a modified battery cover. That's TWICE the battery staying power of the (already extended) 1340mah battery that came with the phone. Got it for 13 BUX on EBay! I hit ALL the good deals for this phone. Anyways, please feel feel to hit me up with any advice, tips or suggestions you might have for me regarding the phone. I'd appreciate any advice I can get!
Hey Gastro,
Welcome to the world of Diamond modding. I've had a cdma diamond since launch and I still love it. It's getting close to its end of life so I might be moving on shortly but for now it's still my baby.
Like you mentioned, first thing you have to do is the hardspl, once you do that it opens it up to all the rom flashing that your hear desires. You'll have to try a few different ones out to see what you like. The diamond comes loaded with wm6.1 which I'm sure you'll soon upgrade to 6.5 or 6.5.x. I run a custom cooked 6.5.x. rom. You'll learn the differences between the different wm versions as well as the differnt versions of touchflo or the newer sense builds. Feel free to ask me any questions about flashing, modding, cooking roms whatever I'm pretty comfortable with all those things. Anyway good luck and I hope you love the phone as much as I do.

Advice for old Tilt

I've upgraded recently from my old AT&T Tilt to the Motorola Backflip. So I now have an extra WinMo phone (with an old Android ROM on the SD card somewhere) that I no longer have to worry about bricking.
Any advice/opinions on some cool things to do with this phone?
Sell it for cash and take your family out for a nice movie or dinner.
HD2 Envy
Maybe eBay would be good way to sell it.
I'm still on my Tilt. It has served me well. I'm ready to upgrade.
A friend at work has the HD2, and it is great. But, I'm pretty married to the AT&T network, at least for now. And the HD2 unlocked would be expensive to get, and it wouldn't work on 3G
The version coming later in the year for AT&Tm from what I understand will run Winmo7, and I have no interest in a locked OS.
So then maybe Android, but it's not quite there yet for me.
So, hopefully the Tilt will last a while longer for me.
Appreciate the responses. The eBay thing would work if I felt that the phone was in good enough shape to resell. Unfortunately, the keyboard doesn't work well (have to press the buttons just right and sometimes 2x). It's a refurb that was sent to me to replace my original N.I.B. unit and it's never worked as well as the first. So I'm really looking for some kind of fun project to do with it. Whether that means using it as just a PDA with WiFi or installing some flavor of Linux or taking it apart and using the parts for something cool. That sort of thing.
I know there's some pretty crafty people here - bring it on!
P.S. Failed to mention that the phone is jailbroken already. Don't remember which ROM I installed last on it.
I always keep phones and they tend to end up as ornaments so don't think i'm best person to respond but...
Sat Nav\MP3 Player\Retro Arcade Game Player
Or get your head in the kitchen and don't worry about bricking it
hahaha he said jailbroken.

"Jumping in Head First" or "I'm Thinking About Buying a Droid"

I've been stuck in the limbo that is WM for what feels like way too long. I was comfortable with it; I knew it. But recently I started a love affair with Android on my TP2 thanks to HaRET and my unending curiosity. So I put an listing up on craigslist asking if anyone had an Android device they wanted to sell at a reasonable price. Within minutes, I had an e-mail from someone almost a hundred miles away saying he had a Droid he would sell for $200.. Seems like a good deal as most of the Droids on e-bay are still >$300. Unfortunately, he wants to do this deal the day after tomorrow, and has committed to driving most of the way to my city to do it.
So I come to this wonderful community that I have lurked in for quite a while in the hopes that you can give me the heads up. What do I need to know, and what do I need to look for?
Naturally, the first thing I am going to do is call the big V and confirm that the ESN is clean. But what about the phone itself? Is there anything I need to look out for? Any known issues? I read something about the back of the screen getting scratched from the sliding mechanism in another thread. Is that just the plastic that gets scratched up, or can the LCD itself get damaged?
I have also read a lot about this "locked bootloader." I think I understand this as not being able to install custom roms, but still allowing you to root. I was under the impression that rooting your device basically took care of that, so now I understand that I was wrong, and will further research what rooting is on my own. But I also see that some people have custom roms available here on XDA and that others are running Froyo on their Droids. Its all very confusing, and under normal circumstances, I would take a few days to read, research, and teach myself. But at the moment, I feel a little under the gun, as this deal won't last forever.
Anything you guys or gals can tell me would probably be more helpful than you think. I feel like I'm trying to make the switch from XP to Ubuntu.. (heh) Any and all posts will be read. Thanks.
The Droid doesn't have a locked bootloader and can be rooted easily. I bought one just like you're thinking of, I don't even have VZW service.
I put Froyo on it and I like it even though I haven't rooted yet.

The back of the screen has a little layer of plastic to keep from scratching some of the plastic. It tears pretty easily, but it doesnt matter as it will not actually damage the LCDs/LEDs, just scratch the plastic back up a little bit.
The Droid does not have a Locked BootLoader, only the Milestone does. Some people do know how to get around this though.
Rooting a Droid is actually quite simple. All you need (if you are a n00b, like me and you) is to download the DroidRootKit from the web which does the most complicated work for you, while allowing you to do some of the simpler stuff.
When you Root, you are brought back to Android 2.0.1 and you cannot download apps, so you might want to download ROM Manager (Premium or Regular) and back it up for downloading Eclair and Froyo ROMs later.
If you do not want to do that, then you should download a ROM (ie, UltimateDroid) place it on your SD card after Rooting, and install that through SPRecovery or ClockWorkMod Recovery.
People who are running Froyo are either rooted and downloaded a custom ROM, or forced the update through the download at the Verizon site.
The first thing you do when you meet that guy is ask if it is Rooted or ever has been.
Then you ask him if it has ever had water damage or any problems with the LCD screen.
If he says yes to the first question, good.
If he says yes to the second or third question (water damages and/or LCD problems) then DO NOT BUY IT.

Should I buy the samsung captivate?

hey guys how are you?, I would like your thoughts on this phone( if y'all don't mind) how easy is to root? what are the best roms available? you guys think it will be waste of money buying it?? all the feedback about this phone is welcome, (good and bad)... I am planing on the gifts I will be buying for x-mas , (I know a bit to early) and I was thinking buying this phone for my lil sis, she currently has the motorola flip which I got her last year, I am planning on spending $200 refurbished, out of contract, used in mint condition..I seen so many reviews but we all know that reviews are just eh, the best way is to ask an actual user,I am a sprint user so I don't know nothing about AT&T phones, well thank you guys, i am eager to hear your thoughts on this phone, and or should I consider getting a better one (more recent phone) thank you again!!
Its alright. Check the build number, GPS, and other specifics off the phone. Development makes it amazing

If you are comfortable with HTC modding, then modding SGS is usually mind boggling (at least for most people). I find it much much better, but thats just me. Look at Build number since the newer ones have better GPS and don't suffer from sleep death.
Devs make this a great phone that is very fast with an amazing screen. There are many great custom ROMs here...
If it's a refurbed early model it might have fixed GPS (or not). GPS performance is a crap shoot in general...Otherwise, it's solid.

For 200 bucks this phone is worth it. The roms are great and stable as well as good support incase something goes wrong with flashing or what not, and I think it will still be a good phone in a years time (if you are going on a yearly cycle with new phones for your sister).
pretty much as stated above the phone is a great phone with the exception of the gps , sometimes it works great other times , not so much- if you sister doesn't nee the phone for the gps it is def. a phone she will enjoy using especially with a custom ROM to cater to her likes- bottom line go for it im planning on getting one for my daughter
I'm going to go ahead and list the issues I have with the Captivate off the top of my head and let you decide off that.
As has been stated previously the GPS is generally pretty crappy, but mine's actually been pretty good on the latest leaked firmware KI2.
The cache by default is only around 30M so if you want to download anything larger then that you'll have to flash a modded PIT file or fine some other means to give you a larger cache (see the Cache link in my sig).
Phones tend to have their own individualism so what works for me may not work as well for you
I wish you the best of luck with whatever phone you decide to go with.
I got my Cappy on release day. Never had a single problem with it. Kernel updates are coming to a close and ROMs for 2.3.5. are following closely. Best phone I've ever owned hands down. Development makes it better. I wish my Glock was this perfect! I will be upgrading to Galaxy S II in January when im due, but I will always keep this phone as backup.
