I really like the Tilt, but the WM OS is just not for me. I really, really just hate it.
BUT, before i get rid of it, i wanted to know, is there any hope for the near future of running a custom Andoid rom on this thing? not running it within WM, i'm talking about full blown Android stand alone?
Because if thats the case, i might just throw it in my closet for a few months.
if not, it better start packing its bags tonight!
Sorry for OOT, but I have the same feeling towards the OS, bro.
I hate all M$ product so much (make it PC or PPC), but in the end I HAVE TO USE THEM WHETHER I LIKE IT OR NOT.
Just for the sake of compatibility with so many other person I live and interact with everyday.
You gotta learn to face it mate, hence, the frustration. I knew the feeling.
Actually there are alternatives like palm and apple, but only few uses or supports them. Which will make, in the end, worse frustration.

Android will be further down the road but it will be even later when we see a full-blown OS for the Tilt/Kaiser.
Once an Android OS is available though I will be flashing. I cannot stand WinMo either.
Curious but are you going to the iPhone instead?...I don't believe there are any other choices unless you're just going with a regular, non-smart/ppc phone.
Its going to be at least as long as it takes to release the first Android Phone to the general public, once thats done then the platform will open up more and be more accessible to us devs. I think Android is going to be amazing once its up and running properly on the MSM7200 chip set. But your best bet would be to hold on to your kaiser and put it in a drawer some place and buy another phone if you don't like the OS and the GUI that comes with it, if you can afford to do so. I am not a fan boy but if you don't need your phone as a business tool then the new 3G Iphone is the way to go in "MY" opinion (please do not turn this into an Apple VS Mac thread) Bottom line is HTC makes great business phones that they did a great job marketing as a general consumer "media" device which it is in some ways. But if your holding onto your kaiser in hopes of Android making everything perfect then your bubble needs to be burst..

There are many other phones out there beside the HTC and Iphones Nokia makes some amazing phones that would blow the kaiser and Iphone out of the water! Also the new Sprint "Instinct"(i think thats the name) is also a really cool touch screen based device! Soon everything phone is going to be touch screen only, the way that the general consumer thinks touch screens are so High tech and cool....
Apple sold 1 Million phones in 2 days so people must like something about it. Personally if they upgraded the camera and some other things I would be dropping my kaiser in a second for it but I'll wait for the 3rd generation its going to be sick! Last note and I'll stop! Windows Mobile 7 is going to be a radical change for the kaiser and other Windows Mobile based phones so It may be worth it to hold on to your kaiser until that is released
Thanks for the replies fellas. I have been a very happy Symbian S60 user for about 1.5 years now. I bought a Tilt a few months back because i love to tinker, and the Tilt is the Closest competition to the N95, so of course i had to get it. My first and last WM phone though.
My main phone is a Nokia N95-4, and i swap out every once in a while with an N82.
You hit the nail on the head when you say that this is a "i get emails all day, and need to open word documents while on lunch" persons phone. but for me, its so damn frustrating and boring, i want to rip out my eyes. Thing is, take all that away, and your left with a not very good phone.
I just hope there is interest in the Tilt still for someone to make an Android rom by the time it comes out.
All im going to say is that if it werent for XDA-DEV, i would have chucked it out of my window, because the factory HTC roms are for the birds.
Have to comment on this one!
well, first of all i'm not sure our Kaisers can handle WM7 when it comes out. I don't like the current OS we're using and wanna say that i had a chat with a couple of people here on the forums and decided not to get an iPhone (although i still like it) and hold on to my Kaiser and wait for Android. It will take time, though..
I wish i needed a second phone.
I'd love my Tilt even more if the screen was just a little bit better about where i touch it... I do IT for a small company and there are 3 iphones, a lot of junk phones and my Tilt... Tilt does the most, iPhone is the easiest to use.
If you could buy a better screen for the Tilt, I'd throw down an extra $200 on it.
Back to the topic, I'd also recommend saving it, with stuff like this you will never get what it is worth from anyone and if nothing else, you have a tinker toy.
If you dont like kaiser and can afford, u might as well sell it off now. Its nearly an year since its release and that is the approximate life of a handset ( in terms of specification) .Futher down the year htc pro will be released, with better specs and that handset will be better suited for wm7 or android. Both these OS may not work great in kaiser. ( but for me kaiser has been the best handset ever ( thanks to this forum and hang.tuah)

Well - obviously everyone sees something from a different perspective.
As a phone - the tilt is no better or worse than any other phone i have had. Remembering of course that cell signals have gotten better and more prevalent over time (I was an original Cellular One customer).
I do support for software so I need access to email on a pretty constant basis - I would have to get to the hotel immediately and check email - I would constantly have to have my laptop with me to check email to see if there were any problems brewing. I no longer have that "attchment" to the laptop. I have a freedom with this phone that I have never had before.
The fact that I can take it to the gym and listen to bluetooth headphones and get my music PLUS!
The fact that I can watch videos on the plane PLUS!
I can text and take and send pictures PLUS!
The fact that I no longer have to carry TOMTOM with me (the unit) when I am on the road and I ALWAYS have TOMTOM with me PLUS!
The fact that I can now whip out my phone and play a game when i am stuck for a few minutes and bored PLUS!
The fact that I can now find the local theater and see what is playing easily or the local Mexican restaurant PLUS!
The fact that I can get weather anywhere in the world easily PLUS!
The fact that I can get/add/change airline tickets easily PLUS!
The fact that I can add new programs to the phone easily PLUS!
So - from MY perspective - this is a drop dead incredible wonderful cannot do without it tool that makes my life better and more fun. It will only get replaced when there is something better available that does it truly better/faster/cheaper than my TILT.
From my vantage point,
Bill
Somehow, i really really doubt that... WM7 might use graphics a whole lot, and our phone doesnt have acceleration... We can just hope people can cook WM7 with drivers... Plus its still 6 months away, android is our best latest choice...

Have to ask, if you have the better nokia phones, why not just link a N810 tablet to your phone via bluetooth ? They aren't bad little devices. Except they run a version of linux. But there are apps that let you do alot of what you need a PPC/Laptop for.
The HTC Touch Diamond is a piece of **** for what you pay for.
I paid almost 800$ for a great phone that I expected a lot out of, what did I get? A phone that worked for 20 days and then ****ed up. The entire phone just does not connect when it is not plugged into the wall outlet, and I've used another battery and it still does the same thing, it's a piece of ****.
For the past month I've been trying to get the damn thing to work, I've treated it like a diamond because I've paid as much as I would.
It was awesome for the first 20 days, but now it's useless unless connected to an adapter. Amazing. Mobilecityonline the guys i bought it from are willing to repair it on warranty but it will take 4-6weeks, THATS MORE THAN A MONTH.
I'm ending with my illusion of WM powered phones, goin to the iphone which has basically the same features, not all the looks but god damnit, the tech support is great, and the phone does not lag, and you don't need to cook roms to get the damn thing to work faster.
This is my rant, and anyone else in California who has a working HTC Touch Diamond, good luck keeping it running.
So it was awesome until it broke? Why not just get it repaired then?
Hardware fails from time to time, do you think the iphone is bullet proof? You say you've been trying to get it working for the last month, well if you'd just had it repaired under warranty you'd probably have it back by now.
No, 6 weeks is more than a month. That's far too long for a phone to be in repair. The company was ****ty, that's a given, but the phone ****ed up.
My sister has an iphone and has had it since it came out. The thing with apple is, you can walk into an apple store down the street and walk out with a brand new phone. Repairs take 1 day.
HTC America was really nice and offered the European hotline, but they agreed that if I sent it out to them it would take more than a month, 2-3 apparently. And they cannot send me a new phone but would have to repair this one.
I thought this phone was bullet proof, people f'ing compared it to the iphone. It's an amazing phone, but not worth 700$.
And to get even the basic tools from diamond you need to jailbreak the iphone or use the 2.0 appstore(not the good solution)
haha nice one mouseymousey made me chuckle!
good luck with your iphone mate, you'll soon come running back! 'basic'illy has the same features just about sums it up! and make sure you have a good belt to hold your trousers up! ahem.. BRICK lol
like mousey says, hardware can break down, lifes not perfect mate!
if your fridge breaks down are you going to switch to only eating tinned food?
How so? What basic tools does the diamond have that the iphone does not? What are we missing here? Jailbreaking is meaningless anymore because i'm already on the network with the iphone. You still have to pay for WM applications, it's not like the appstore is killing you.
Sorry double posted on accident. Anyways. I'm sorry, everyone on this board has been great, but no one anywhere on the internet could help me solve this problem, and HTCs best support told me to "hard reset" amazing.
I've just realized that WM is too much trouble, and HTC products are and will always be far too expensive for what you get. If the unlocked iphone cost about 700$ with 4/gigs of internal storage people would be ****ing pissed. But nothing about HTC but rather its a supposed competitor. Failed to impress.
Also, hardware does not break down in a matter of days of you getting it, that's ridiculous, that's showing the quality build of the product being really ****ty. Honestly, If i got a fridge from sears, that broke down in a weeks time I would not get the same brand again. The problem is that every product that you get has to work for atleast a couple of months and you have to do something to do it for it to breakdown. For god's sake, I haven't bought a single product that I couldn't fix, this is literally a hardware failure, that wasn't warranted, I didn't even touch the phone the wrong way, I swear to you I have had it in a case as thick as my wallet. It's ridiculous. If you call it a random breakdown that happens every now and then, **** that. 700$ is a lot for me. And a months time for repairs isn't gravy.
bye bye then
ta tar then!
car navigation, copy - paste, does not even exist... good pushmail etc. exchange stuff... remote desktop, video recording, crappy speeds compared to htc on connections, even with the new 3g... just to name few...
i love the use of iphone, theres no comparison to that, but featurewise its no match for diamond
iphone can melt...
Do you even know that the back cover from the Iphone can be so hot...even the backside can melt...it's posted on a dutch website which found an article from an american user....
If you don't believe me, here's the link to the dutch website:

So you'd better think twice before you buy the Iphone...
greetzz Jeroen
oh yes, the '3g' phone that CANT make video calls?? errr, whats the point!!!? haha
iphone sucks big time!
There are so many good reasons to switch to the iPhone (useability, following the masses, trying to look cool, for example), but "because my phone broke" is not one of them when you consider that iPhone users have just been complaining about that very issue - and I'm not speaking about activation problems...
Anyway, have fun. Good luck with the battery.
I'll stick with the Diamond. Its features simply blow the iPhone out of the water. Most importantly for me is that I can easily write my own apps for it.
Car navigation does exist the new 3g has built in GPS. Copy and paste is released with the new 2.1 firmware, mobileme is up and running, HTC's wifi blows donkey, 3g is fast as hell on the iphone.
And again folks its not about features, its about BUILD QUALITY.

Sure, 31 days in a month (average) 7 days in a week, 4.4 weeks in a month. (divide 31 by 7)

I can't help noticing that if the same thing happened to your iphone you would be probably writing similar post. Honestly WM6 is for professional and semi-professional users, perhaps closer to blackberry so if you were looking for an iphone like alternative it was a mistake. I am under no peer pressure in terms of "coolness"- the HTC SD must perform efficiently the business tasks that I throw at it and honestly there is currently no better alternative for my needs.

True, on iPod touch and non 3g iPhone, unfortunatelly the 3g version has not been the best quality from apple... this is quite tough place to get sympathy when changing to iblaah...
As many of you are probably aware, Windows Mobile 6.5 or as M$ calls it lately, Windows Phone 6.5 is only a stepping stone on the way to a real mobile OS designed for fingerfriendly devices.
WinMo 6.5 is actually in many terms only a "visual" upgrade of WinMo 6.1 which makes WinMo more fingerfriendly and makes it look more sexy but in the end, it's still Windows Mobile as we know it. (If you disagree just look at the calender application in 6.5 )
What Microsoft is preparing to fight Android, Blackberry OS 5.0 and iPhone OS is Windows Phone 7. Rumors have it that it will be designed from the ground up and will be designed from the beginning for the use on touchscreen devices, designed for input using nothing but your finger. Windows Phone 7 and 6.5 will be marketed parallel, meaning high-end devices will get Windows Phone 7 and lower-end devices will get the 6.5 version.
So what has it all to do with the Rhodium ROM forunm ?
Simple: Since the Rhodium is pretty much a (very)high-end device I am aware that many people will want to use Windows Phone 7 on it, once it is released. You may say: the relese of Windows Phone is due in 2010 and thats a long, long time from now, but most people buy phones to use them at least 2 years and the Touch Pro 2 being such a great device I can easily imagine sticking to it for even longer. (There arent many similiar phones at the time which offer the same build-quality, the same high-res screen or the great 5-row qwerty in one package, and I guess I am lucky if there is 1 new device like this on the market every year.)
But now to my question. Since those rumours say Windows Mobile 7 will be built from the ground-up, do you guys think it will be possible to get this working on the Rhodium ?
I know a lot of this will be speculation but I want to know your opinion.
If the kernel is completely new will it run on the Rhodium ? Will there be any1 even interested in 1-2 years porting this to the Rhodium ?? etc, etc
As I understand it's still a very long way of, Q4 2010, which means it could easily end up being Q2 2011 or something. Haven't seen any screen shots or really solid info. I'm better it will be quite some time before we see a TP2 rom based on WM7, or I guess WP7.
In true MS style (now don't get me wrong I'm an MS guy all the way, forget mac, forget linux, forget android, I only use win Mo, and win OS), I'm sure that when 7 drops you're gonna need snap dragon processor or better, just like when 6.5 finally droped most 6.1 mobiles could run it, but not very well. infact ngrz28 ROm on the tp2 is the first device/6.5 rom that it actaully ran smooth on.
back in the day, it use to be the The Software was tryin to keep up with the hardware, then it became the hardware trying to keep up with the the software (say crysis 2 ms os...etc).. But the truth is it will always be the software tryin to keep up with with the software, beacause the hardware companies, intel,TI,SYsop, only release the hardware that has been already developed , and moth balling, when the software has caught up enough... MS ain't **** without Intel, its a sysmbosis between the hardwae developers and the software developers, and a Conspiriousy. Long story short the release of a winmo 7 would me you have to upgrade your hardware, so lets worry about getting the most out of 6.5 and enjoying it
when i bought my tp2 last night the guy at the tmobile store said i can upgrade to windows 7 but i wont have my favs cuz tmobile doesnt support windows 7. JUST A FYI.

the people at T-mobile, will tell u anything.
check this example, I always just call Tmobile, tell the the phone I want and it goes on my account. I called for the TP2, and the guy said we have it can ship today, but if u go to a T-mo store they can break the payments up so I don't have to pay the full $400 something price on the next bill worse case secanario I'd have to pay the fist payment on in at the store., I said ok, let me check this out if nothing else I'll get the phone today. went to my local T-mobile store, guy said I had to pay 300 something today and and that I had had a 120 dollar credit, and that would be split over the next 4 bills. I said Peace and got my phone 2 days later no money outta pocket?
Windows Phone (Moible) 7 only runs on two processors - Snapdragon from Qualcomm and Terga from Nvidia.
In 7 there is a concept of a Chassis - A defined hardware specification which is consistant across all 7.x devices. This will allow MS to brings high end computing (read Xbox) to Moible devices.
http://www.engadget.com/tag/windows+mobile+7+chassis+1/
In Short... The only device which is public today and capable of running 7 is the Zune HD. No other hardware in market has the defined spec 7 needs.

I did the exact same thing on 8/12. I called a local store and they told me about the $120 credit and that I didn't have to pay out of pocket if I ordered it from the 800 number. So the guy put the order through for me and all i had to do was call t-mo and tell them to ship it. I asked them about the $120 credit and they told me that instead of paying the whole 400 it could be broken up. 270 something on next bill and 40 on the following 3 bills. I received the phone on 8/14 and still haven't started to pay the for phone yet.
i didnt care i just wanted a new phone i hated the dash3g. but i should of known he didnt know crap of what he was talking about cuz he tried to tell me about skyfire but instead said a different named LoL
I don't understand there end game, I'd rather have it put on my my next next bil via the phone order, cause I over paid this bill, and I'll pay the balance next bill, u don't get any advantage going to the store, At&t use to put everything on my bill, even assecories when I went to the store

hehe yea.. .
but anyway if they say WinMo Chassis is Tegra or Snapdragon, in 2010/2011 those will be pretty antique by then i guess...
I just got the TMo TP2 on a new 2 yr contract. I'll be sticking with it and 6.1/6.5 until I'm a free agent again. Then I'll be looking for a TP3 powered by the Snapdragon 2 and WinMo 7.5. Or maybe wait out a 3rd year for the TP4 and WinMo 8.
S
By the time it is out, the TP2 will be old news at a guess.
Never the less I'm sure devs here will give it there best efforts to run it on as many devices as possible. Until we actually start seeing Win Mo 7 builds tip up, we arn't going to know.
P.S. I wouldn't take those screen shots as much, have you seen the number of changes to the 6.5 UI in the last month?

Thanks,

No. If I read right the min requirements for 7 Series is a Snapdragon. That's a 1GHz CPU, the Imagio only has a +500MHz CPU. I'm sure once we get an HSPL someone will be more then happy to cook a rom. But It will run like crap, if at all.
no update even the hd2 will not get it
no 6.5 hardware is capable of running 7.

LOL The HD2 will get it. That's like the only phone that will.
What really gets my panties in a bunch.... wait... did I just type that out loud? ... is I was assured at the time of purchasing the Imagio that it would most definitely have winmo7 available for it when it was released. It was repeated over and over that winmo6.5 was simply an interim solution until 7 was released. It was THE determining factor for purchasing the Imagio and signing a 2 year contract. As for Microsoft... I'm through with buying any phone containing windows mobile OR phone... Winmo6.5 is the Windows Vista of the PDA.... a complete POS considering it was released to compete against the iphone and the droid.
Thanks, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Man I don't even care about WinMo 7 anymore lol.
Not a fan of the interface.
Do want 6.5.3 though.
I'm looking forward to WinMo7. I just hope that we can get this unlock bull**** taken care of before it comes out - which I'm sure won't be for quite a while yet if I know Microsoft! Yeah, I know that they're saying it'll be out soon, but I seriously doubt it. On the other hand, I love this Imagio so much that I'm not really missing the hard unlock. So, lots to see about....

weeelllll.. now hang on a sec. i dont think it was ever designed to be a competitor of iphone, per sey. that said, i think that *every* smartphone/ppc is positioned to compete w/the iphone. as for it not being able to run winmo 7, who cares?? just get another phone once it comes out..u do realize that it's going to be some time before it does finally make it to the hallowed shelves of verizon - i don't care *what* they say. w/verizon and microsoft it's always 'i'll believe it when i see it'. as for droid, haven't seen it yet but am planning to make it into a verizon store this weekend - very much doubt it but that's the plan as of this second!! so stick around m8.. u may be pleasantly surprised..

Why would you ever believe a saleperson from any cell provider? Specially on Minmo7. Odds are heavily in favor of you knowing way more than they do, even if you know nothing about nothing.
Most of the dudes that work in the VZW stores are lucky to remember their names.
I did read on a MS blog that WM7 would not be available for the phones that preceded the WM7 phone.
7 wont be on 6.5 phones. no matter what, it isnt happening.
its PHYSICALLY not possible.
hope for 6.5.whatever and be thankful if you get it.

Man! I'm self employed and still don't have the disposable income that a fair amount of people have in these forums. In the current state of the economy who can afford to purchase phones every time a new one comes out? I sure can't.
Regarding Win 6.5.... loaded the most recent update to it and it's made a ton of difference regarding the use of the phone, speed, and the constant lockups I was experiencing prior. At this stage I have settled into the Imagio and have loaded a ton of apps that make it much more convenient in just about every aspect of my day. Figure since Win7 will never be available I'll take the plunge soon and load one of the new roms on it. Also curious to try out the droid OS now available.
Still... while there was a great deal of initial enthusiasm regarding the Imagio... it looks like that enthusiasm has died off really quick which would seem to translate to less being done to continue to enhance the product on all fronts... including here.
Time will tell.

Yeah, I hear you. It does get quite expensive. But think of it as a hobby.. That might help justify its cost. Or, stick w/what you have and love it. All these phones have serious sweetness creds. Before I bought the Imagio, I was using a 3 year old Touch. It suited my purposes fine and I bought the Imagio only bc my Touch was all scratched and generally messed up.

Oh, and as for WinMo7...meh. But if it really *is* something great and wonderful, that could make a difference for me. But I highly doubt it.

well good thing that you doubt it. I tried out the kin two with win mo 7 and i have to say.. it is a huuge adjustment. One thing that bothered me the most... there is no apps for the phone. yea u heard me
I have purchased windows based smartphones since it was the ONLY player in the market with Windows CE 1.0. I have probably purchased 12 to 15 different variations of a windows based smartphone over the last 10 years. I have developed apps left and right for win ce and winmo. The fact that Microsoft has created immediate obsolescence on every winmo 6.5 phone by not allowing forward migration is the final straw for me. Particularly with an OS that effectively will have NO support when it's released for 3rd party apps. I really believe microsoft has lost what ever clout and status they had in the pda market for good. I will NEVER purchase another MS based smartphone again. Bill Gates can sit on them and spin. In the end I have to say that the Imagio, while giving the promise of longevity, expandibility, and all around blissfulness, has turned out to be the worst, bar none, pda purchase I have ever made. And I am still stuck with 14 months left on this *&*^*) assed 2 year verizon contract on it.
Purchased my first Droid the other day. The Droid X. MAN what a beautiful pda! This thing does mega circles around my Imagio and winmo. With the 60,000 plus apps available for it... my ability to build apps around it as well... and the shear elegance of the unit... this may very well be the last pda I ever purchase.
As the Imagio fades into "paper weight" status... Homer Dokes rides off into the sunset with his Droid X at his side.... tomorrow will be a good day!
Wow
You must of had some Really Great phones before the Imagio if that is your worst one ever! What were they?!!! I want to get one!
Ive been considering getting an android phone for quite a while so im thinking of the g1 becuase it is cheap and it has a keyboard, what are your guys thoughts, i have a fuze right now.
Don't buy a g1. I've had this phone since november 2008 and I can't wait to get rid of it. You should spend the money and get a better android phone, such as the droid, nexus, or wait for the htc desire. You will definitely have a better android experience with one of these phones. Its just to much hacking you have to do to make a G1 good.

Yeah I would stay away from the Cliq. There are roms for it, but there isn't as much development for it as there is for the G1. You'll find it to be quite boring and it's stuck on 1.5. If it's a choice between the two, get the G1.
Lol... Its pretty funny how everyone is saying the G1 is bad and don't buy it. Give it a month, there will be something then the N1 and everyone's going to say, "Don't buy the N1 its such garbage." G1 is a good phone. It won't take you to the moon, but it's not bad. =] I personally have the myTouch. I honestly wish I would have got G1 for keyboard, though. That's another reason I hate the N1... Yea, it's sexy... but touch screen keyboards have proved to be nothing but trouble for me. Besides misclicking (which you get better at) they usually lag. Sometimes slightly - sometimes horribly. They're NEVER as fast as a physical keyboard, though. They also prove to be trouble for games or things that use a keyboard. Most have full touch screen support, but I personally like to use a keyboard to play a game if it's an option. That's just my opinion.
I bought one off eBay for under $200 and I love it. I don't see how any other phone is better than it right now. It was a five row keyboard, trackball, and with all the custom roms available, it fits every niche that I want.

Beat THAT!
HTC DREAM (people... please call it what it actually IS and not what it has been DE-branded to...) is a very flexible device. Perfectly capable of running the latest builds of android.
The problem that some people are having is that the manufacturer (HTC) has decided to stop supporting it. This is no different than what will happen with the GN1 or other android phones made by HTC.
And the main thing to keep in mind is that this is a PHONE, not a supercomputer. Does it REALLY NEED to be the latest super-duper over powered crazy thing? NO. It really doesn't.
DREAM is very well known, and hacked up the wahzoo. There is virtually nothing that you can't make it do. Right down to being jtag-able.
Fact is simple; if you want maximum flexibility in your phone (more important than peak performance), DREAM is the ticket.
Cool guys, thx for the advice i defintley think i am going to purchase 1 off ebay, but im thinking if i should get the brown/black or the white, i saw the white can get a few nicks on in but it looks nice, what do u guys have?

I would say overall that I am very happy with this phone.
Especially with the hacks and mods that I've done to it.
Its fast, stable and looks great.
I am more than happy with this phone, (Especially since I traded a Sidekick LX for it) I haven't been this happy with a phone in a while.
I used to have the HTC Excalibur and coming from Windows Mobile to Android is phenomenal, everything is so simple once you learn and get the hang of it.
So if you have the cash and you are curious just buy it and learn the basics!
Well worth it!
What attracted to me about this phone is that it is able to use the keyboard( hard keyboard is obviously easier to use) to type and gaming. Moreover, the phone is able to be modded and a variety of ROMs that might suit your style to choose from.
I would actually want to buy a second HTC Dream if I could. Seriously, if you really want to utilise your PDA phone properly, the Dream can do it all for you. However, if you really want high end gaming and more sensitive touch screen & proximity sensors to show off, then it's better to get the latest phone. I find that as it is, I am utilising only 50% of what the Dream is capable of. So I have been using it since last year and will continue on until I cannot do certain things that are important for work. Just my 2cents.
Coming from all different kinds of OS's, Sony, WM for many years, and finally the awesome Android OS.
Its hard to compete against it. I like the idea of a quality physical keyboard and screen. There is so much development and quality Rom releases here for our phone.
Devs know this and that is why they stay and keep doing what they do so well for all of us. Themers as well deserve much respect for their hard work and commitment.
Bottom Line: Buy a G1, you'll be hard pressed to find a better android phone at this time.
