To Upgrade or not To Upgrade - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Okay Here is my problem I have a Tilt and want to upgrade to WM 6.1 but I don't know which rom I should go with (The one from att, Hyper Dragon, Dutty, etc..). Does anyone have any opinions on which upgrade rom I should go with?
Also side question WTF is up with the SD cards not showing data anymore after a while?

I used Hyper Dragon and its been fine. Again, it all depends on what you do with your phone

I want something stable and but speedy. I get my email, use S2P, Surf with Skyfire, use TL as today screen, use Final burn for Neo Geo games and need it not to freeze or screw up like it does now with 6.0. I Have a lot of multimedia so I need free ram (if possible) because people always ask to see it since my job is to sell phones and I need to "wow" customers with it.
I don't know if that helps to narrow it down but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried them all and always seem to go back to HyperdragonIII. In my opinion its the fastest and most stable and Manila2D works and looks great. I would try the 11th oct version as it has no bugs that i can find and some of the newer builds are more experimental. Follow the link in my sig to the HyperDragon Thread.
Edit: If you require a non Manila2D Rom to show your customers then 5th sept is the best for HyperDragonIII

I would go with the offical update or a NATF rom. I like NotATreoFan's roms because they are clean and quick, but I would suggest just tyring out WinMo 6.1 first (with the offical update). You may find you prefer WinMo 6.

So true
Unfortunately once a phone is upgraded, it's not as easy as running the older ROM RUU for reverting either - there's lots of hoops to jump through as far as reverting is concerned.

I Have my opinion of what ROM is best. But this may differ for you.

Wow. Unbelievable how many threads are opened with problem with the newly released ROM at HTC-e Club. I downloaded my version too from that site the moment I saw announcement here. First of all, I did not get a mail from HTC at all, should have liked that in the first place.
I decided not yet to install. Luckily a good decision it seems according to that huge list of complaints.
Normally a forum is always only full of complaints, no one is posting when all things a good (enough), so that is not surprising me at all.
But of all users that installed this new ROM version, aren't there any people who are satisfied? That is what I was wondering. So just leave you name and a message here if all works well, so I can be convinced to also try this new version myself.
[Edit]Hopefully this list will be long [/Edit]
Apart from a few complaints that I had, I think that there are actually many things that are improved, for example the graphics when you turn portrait to landscape...and this is a remarkable one. And also, you are able to 'zoom in' in the latest Internet Explorer (WM6.1 standard one).
i was happy user with WM 2003, and later with WM2003 SE, and later with WM5, and later with WM6, and now with WM6.1... so you can say i'm a happy user in general i beleave you can be a happy user with any Mobile OS... i beleave is a choice...
Cheers
Very happy here. I'm running the official 6.1 ROM with the accompanying HTC SPL (overwriting the Hard SPL I used previously, as mine is a Vodafone branded phone) and it's far more responsive device - no more pauses or missed button presses, very little waiting around generally, and certain tasks like browsing files are markedly quicker. The new features (threaded SMS and improved IE) are good, having the camera and bluetooth fixes in ROM is worthwhile, and the whole package just feels like a much better, snappier device.
If I had to criticise it on anything, I'd say that at times the GPS can be slower to get a lock on - but then, at other times, it seems very quick - so I probably need to test that some more.
Im pretty happy myself
especially when I go from portrait to landscape
it loads up the screen real fast.
Found no grounds for complaints as of now (4 days and counting). Using the SWE version of the official update.
Happy user here!

me happy 2
Yes I confim being happy by the new official 6.1 release from HTC ... I was never happy with any cooked rom except with only one 2003 rom I had to cook it myself to add certain applications I didn't want to loose them with hard reset ...
with so much due respect to all gurus and chefs here, but playing with the core components and registry tweaks are not gauarnteed to hold against all types of applications a user may decide to install later ... actually this is the main reason for most of complaints.
I only didn't like the new threaded sms, but it's only a matter of small tweak .. but all the rest is so fine for me.
After about 3 flashes. a lil bit contented... but not happy.
The only reason i stick with this official rom is because i am kind of a purist, there are other very good roms from various cooks on this forum. But i prefer this one becasue its just generic* and i consider it pure from the manufacturer without person tweaks as a result of peoples personal preferences.
Sorry, I'm NOT happy with the latest official HTC 6.1 ROM.
BUT, I'm running udK's Vega R0 WM6.1 ROM for weeks, and I'm very happy with that one!
I'm very happy with the original release! It's working very fast here.
My screen flips very fast too.
But if you were to try the HTC rom with the HTC SPL your opinion might change!
Personally, I think, like Boingg, that the new ROM is great PROVIDED you re-install the HTC SPL.
As another person also said, there are some very good cooked ROM's here, but while they introduce some speed/performance improvements, they can also introduce their own bugs. One cook in particular seems intent on providing quantity over quality by uploading a new ROM seemingly every hour - always amuses me when I read the responses, like 'What a great rom, I am wetting myself its sooooooo good!! - By the way, here's a list of the bugs I found' (This isn't a direct quote, but you get the idea!!). I think at the end of day that the ROM that has been designed for a particular device will always be better than one that has been manhandled from elsewhere - although some of the ported ROM's do get pretty close, there is always some niggle or other.
Anyway, I will stop rambling.... yes I am happy with the HTC ROM but I reserve the right to re-flash at any time!
I'm using the WWE version and am happy with it so far.

Do you plan on doing something with this data/poll/etc....
Or is this a venting thread
This is a developer's forum .... not tech support or customer service
The purpose of this forum is to develop
If you've been around these devices for a while, you'll know that factory ROMz are the worst. Page Pools are set low, they contain alot of unwanted bloatware for compaines to brand their devices and as a result of this, storage space is low.
These ROMz however, provide a base for devlopers to work with. These are the ROMz that 95% of us have on our devices. On that note, we should be thankful that ROMz are updated by manufacturers....beacuase, again it provides raw materials to work with.
Try joining a manufacturer or carrier forum where thoughts & concerns of the ROMz in question can be viewed by representatives of the manufacturers.
Rom behavior:
There's no such thing as a perfect ROM. Some work better than others. What works good for me on my device may not work for you....
Factory or Cooked
D W N Y +1
Development is the name of the game. Move the thread to Walala land
And no, you should not be fooled feling "happy" with a glimp of possibilities provided by HTC. Nice quote "raw materials".
(and believe me, I DO know how they "develop" @ HTC here. They still learn from our own chefs (from outside the mouth of the horse)
I am Glad to see the WWE Official version out now.
Now that the Official version is out I will wait for our resident cooks to make a good rom out of it. Since the first day I got the Tilt I Hard SPL'ed it and got rid of the AT&T bloat and flashed a Schaps rom. I did try the new WWE from HTC but had some problems with it but I didn't take the time to try a different radio. So I am sure with the correct radio it would have been better then the one it came with. Depending on where you live your carrier and the service offered in your area have a lot to do with what radio works best. At least that has been my experience. But the one thing I know that is I seem to prefer the cooked roms if they use an official base. So I will wait and hopefully Schaps will be releasing soon. Thats my 2 cents!

happy user, but could be happier.

Windows Mobile 6.1?

Will there be an official Windows Mobile 6.1 for the Herald?
nope. just that easy
so basically, tmobile wing will not have windows 6.1 that is not cool
Well July 12 I will be on my iPhone then.
well before you jump ship, all the current custom roms are 6.1
try those
well i am not jumping mate, I have tried them, and the closest i have gotten with HTC herald upgrade from tylerC161 is error messages saying, the system cannot excute the specified file and then shuts off. i am new to this, so if you have any experience with one of them, please reference, i dont need tutorial, i can do it i am sure, there are just a million version in this forum and i have not been successful with three of them so far and it took me a 6 to eight hours by now. i am still not frustrated, more like eager to see one of them work and see how touchflo works on my wing before i buy an iphone.
i agree
Why is it that the wing wont get a 6.1 upgrade but people that have had wm5's were able to go to 6's from what ive read. whats the point of having windows default update software on there if there never gona let you have the updates ??? i want the 6.1 also. Ive tried a few roms myself and went back to factory settings because of minor but imoprtant errors.
in all honesty, the wing already has wm6. if you're mad about them getting wm6 from wm5, the jump form wm6 to 6.1 doesn't necessarily translate
and windows update for wm is one of those ideas that sounds nice but doesn't really quite work
ok but also
I heard wings arent gona be upgradeable to WM7 either so do you see what i mean ?
Yeah but the iPhone won't make the jump from whateverthehellitsOSiscalled to wm7 either
Also, why would you want to run the bloatware that is a stock TMO rom? I mean seriously, you can't deny the fact that your wing runs 800x faster as soon as you flash anybody's rom, let alone a slim/lite version of one of them.
If you're going to dump the wing in favor of a different device, at least just use a custom rom untill wm7 hits. Otherwise you'll be buying yet another phone.
idea
try flashing to open touch v3.0 slim, everything works and its vrey fast. any program that it doesnt have you can usually find for free. good luck and dont stick with the tmo os cause it for lack of a better word sucks.

Flashing: when to make the leap?

Hi all. After much gnashing of teeth with awful performance of my Touch HD, which was cured by sending it back & getting fixed, I'm now at a stage where everything's working quite well, so naturally I want to tinker with it
I've seen recent (i.e. this week) posts about continued improvements by MS on the 6.5 OS, which will assumedly get incorporated into future ROMs. Also, HTC seems to be getting near to releasing touchflo/manilla 2.5.
As i've not flashed before (ho ho), I'm a bit trepidatious about the whole thing, and am keen not to have to do it regularly, given the hassle of PIMbackup/sashimi/scripts/etc. So what I'd like to geet a feel for - what I wonder if anyone has any useful opinion about - is:
If you were upgrading, when would you do it? What would you wait for? A specific WM6.5 build? A stable release notice from MS? An official release of manilla2.5? A cooked ROM which has official stable manilla2.5 final on top of official stable 6.5 final, and has been beta-tested like crazy by other users?
All musings appreciated.
Cheers

Quite right too!!
the HDs standard ROM is dog-awful compared to the somewhat refined offerings on this forum.
IMO avoid Manilla 2.5 until HTC have finished it...its getting a lot better but needs some refinement.
decide whether you want 6.1 or 6.5 then have a look through the chefs thread for each version ie. NRGZ28, Dutty , Mirri to name but a few (apologies to the chefs not mentioned)
the latest build of each ROM are 'usually' ok but its alway best to check the most recent posting in any thread which some give some indication of this.
Also make sure you read the wiki regarding flashing CrackWhore i believe offers sound advice.
and dont for a second think you will only flash once! LOL its very addictive.
but there is one thing for certain no matter whose ROM you go for it WILL utterly transform your HD
good luck & happy flashing!!
Don't be scared, read up properly and flash away.
As said, It's addictive and you'll end up trying all the different Roms.
Only you can decide what and when is a good time to try whatever OS or Manilla you want, they are changing all the time so I would follow purecodes advice and get flashing.
Basically get the latest Hardspl, then decide on a rom and have them all downloaded ready on the pc. have loads of wiki type pages open to reassure you and plug in, install the Hards spl (5 mins) and them the rom (10-15 mins)
I use pim backup for contacts, texts, calender, etc and sprite for email and tones/settings, never had a problem with gettin the phone back how i like it within half an hour. MS myphone is another backup to have.

As long as you follow dummies guide for flashing and read up on each rom you'll be fine.
As for everything else, your queries are opinionated and will create a long thread and is thus frowned upon. For this reason I am closing this thread.

Rhodium noob, Longtime Wizard user

Okay, so I finally gave up my Wizard for Tmo's Touch Pro 2. I had a cooked rom on my Wizard that was bare-bones but wicked stable and fast. I am a mom who has to juggle PTA, games and other social activities with doc appointments and banking, etc...I want a rom that is responsive, fast, crazy stable, good on battery life and without a lot of bells and whistles. I prefer to add the apps I need and leave the rest behind. What custom rom would you suggest for me? I have read the various tutorials about unlocking and flashing the Rhodium, and am not new to using cooked rom...just new to the device. Also if there any tricks to make using the device better/fun, I'd love to hear them. Thank you for you advice, and I hope to become a contributor in this section, and get to know all of you here.
A moment of silence please while I lay my Wizard to rest... *taps plays in the background*

energyROM 21869 with manila 2.1 is your best bet... stay away from the newer 6.5.1 builds. i do like flashing the newest and checking it out, but stable is where its at and the 21869 builds have been refined for quite a while now.

This is the ATT Rom that got stretched out to the bare bones and got optimized by speed.
The chief has some cabs in there that will optimize it even more.
-I suggest putting on the cab to disable push for internet because you free up 10MB of RAM.
-And then install the 3G coverage in the comm manager so you can disable 3G when you are not using it. This will up the batter life.
My RAM with nothing running ranges from 55 to 60 percent.
Good to know, I appreciate the responses and welcome any input anyone else has to offer. Thank you again for the help.
My usual response....ROM is personal choice, it all depends on what you install in your phone, and what you use your phone for! Best choice will be read and flash...
as ndn715 said, id recommend Energy's 'photon' ROM. Fast reliable but with a hint of class
The 'Leo' version of this ROM is a lot more buggy and i found it bogs down a bit, being because it was originally designed for the Leo with a much faster processor

Thank you...and I do understand that. I was just trying to find a jumping off point so that I don't blow through 50 roms that have too much junk on them when what I want is pretty vanilla. It seems that the Photon rom seems to be the one to start off with and go from there...and reading about the rom, and the chef, it seems that it has been tested specifically for speed and stability which is really important to me.
My next question is this...there does not seem to be a dedicated wiki for this...or perhaps I have somehow managed to miss it...but before I flash my phone, I'd love to get a copy of Tmo's stock rom. Since Tmo has changed their website, I am not finding a stock rom (as I was able to do years ago with my Wizard)...so does anyone have a copy of Tmo's stock rom? This way if I need to exchange the phone for any reason, it is not completely obvious that I voided my warranty by modifying the phone.
Again, I appreciate everyone's input and welcome and thank you for any future advice that can be offered.
Welcome!

WM 6.5 Official Uncooked Upgrade, should I go branded(t-mobile) or unbranded(htc)?

Hi everyone,
I have a T-Mobile TP2 and have been torn on whether or not to upgrade to 6.5 for some time now. Well I finally decided to go for it, but then came across the official unbranded HTC rom.
My question is (dealing only with official release updates from tmobile and htc):
Who has upgraded to both branded and unbranded and can relay pros and cons of both compared to 6.1 and each other? Or has anyone heard enough about both, or can give me any relevant information?
Also, do I need to HardSPL in order to flash the HTC rom?
I'd really like to lose all the bloatware and sh!tty splash screen and everything else t-mo, but I don't know if there is any clear-cut advantage to doing so.
Also, if I am completely daft and missed a similar pre-existing thread, please inform me of my mistake. Same goes if I posted in the wrong section, this is my first post in evar.
THANKS!!!
Put Hardspl on your phone and you can test yourself You can always go back to the 6.1 rom.
is there a stock manila 2.5 ROM offered by t-mo?
if not, 2.5 + CHT is definately worth using the HTC ROM.
I would not mess with Sense 2.5 unless it is cooked. You need a lot of tweaks to make it run smoothly on the TP2, especially in HTC messaging. I am using a cooked version of the T-Mobile stock rom with Sense 2.1, has been the best and most stable rom for me yet. Sense 2.5 is good if you don't mind giving up some performance for new features. Sense 2.1 is what our devices run best with. Hope this helps you decide.
EDIT: In comparison to WinMo 6.1 with TF3D, upgrading to 6.5 with Sense2.1 will in my opinion make the device run smoother. 6.1 is a very solid OS and works well with TouchFlo to make scrolling much easier. However, I say if you can upgrade the device to 6.5 without losing performance go for it because it is much better integrated than TouchFlo, making the touch experience much better. Through my testing, the TP2 functions best with WinMo 6.5 with Sense2.1. The newer WinMo builds are probably better off using on the HD2 and other high performance devices. Same thing with Sense2.5, it can run smoothly but you will be giving up some speed as well as memory and battery life. I have come to terms with my phone, lol... Nothing beyond Sense2.1 and WM6.5 from now on. But you have to test on your own to see which you like better. Good luck!
I've been cooking own ROM for a few weeks now, and it's a T-Mobile no frills ROM.
It's not quite finished, but it's very stable and the battery life is excellent. I could always use another tester if you're interested.

You would have to hard SPL to use the HTC ROM.
The Official WM 6.5 is a sense 2.1 version, but you would not need to hard SPL.
Thanks for all of your help!
I'm still not sure what i'll do for now, but i'll probably end up just biting the bullet and becoming an addict. I'll start with the official sh!t and gateway into flashing every stable rom that exists lol.
