Hello.
I am a long time Windows Mobile user and have used some of the great utilities here on XDA in the past but this is my first post.
Please dont flame me to much I searched the forums and did not find a direct answer so now I must ask.
I am a long time WM 6.1 BA user and finally purchased a tilt over the weekend on ebay.
This thing is great! Except
Three of the D-PAD buttons are not working: down, left, and right.
They do not light up the keys when pressed. My first assumption is hardware.
Second assumption is a conflict with what is installed.
Hopefully someone here can give me some insight.
A few specs:
HYPERDRAGON III
KAIS1*0 MFG
SPL-1.0.0 LIPOF
CPLD-8
R 1.65.24.36
G 25.94.40.06W
D 3.SJ.HD.03
I think some of this could use updating but if its hardware I am not going to waster my time.
Thanks for any suggestions and thanks for such a great forum!
its hardware.
It may not have nothing to do with the problem you described, but I noticed you are using SPL 1.0.0. HD III requires HardSPL 3.29.
So, flash the right one. In case of not solving the D-PAD button issue, at least it would prevent other issues.

Is there a solution to this? Can the button hardware be purchased somewhere for a reasonable price?
As far as the update I have to wait for a usb cable but most likely will be doing nothing other than returning it.

$10? Are these just the button covers or the actual hardware that I would need to get this phone working?

Just buttons. No hardware there.
So is there anywhere to get the hardware buttons?
Is there somewhere to get the hardware buttons for these that anyone is aware of? I am not afraid to open this thing up to fix it.

Why you wont search this by your own at all?

This problem seems definately hardware problem - not ROM/SPL related.
I have searched for and have found these flex cables but just was not sure if they were the solution to my problem. Anyway thanks for the verification.

Hi,
When I'm making a call with my Kaiser using speaker on option, receiver can't hear me, sometimes it works but usually don't.
I have found on the web other people having the same problem with this phone.
Is there any solution for that ? Does anyone of you have this problem aswell ?
Your not alone! I get that same problem... if you find something out let me know. I thought I was the only one. I'm afraid to send my phone in because i'll get a refurb back and I don't like refurbs at all.
Hi:
You probably won't get a refurb, I think they must not have refurbs yet.
The reason I say this, is that I have had 3 Tilts so far, and STILL have the speaker issue. All 3 had the same white sticker as my new one(I believe the sticker color is what indicates whether it is a refurb or not, but don't shoot me if I'm wrong ).
Anyway, I have decided I just have to live with the dysfunctional speakerphone, because it's either that, or switch to another phone, which I can't do, since I love the Tilt
Some people have suggested that turning off Microphone AGC in system helps, but it did nothing for me.
PS: Please post here if anyone finds a solution to the speakerphone issue.
Same here
I have the same problem.. I realized it recently and it has been a huge disappointment.
Trying being on a work call. It's a disaster.
I have no idea what to do now?
i have the same thing all the units are not usable for speakerphone i dont know anyone that doesnt have the same problem

Honestly I am not very tech saavy, and am afraid to flash since it would void my warranty. For example, if I get the red light of death, and I have the wrong ROM on it, I'd be out of luck, and right now I am way too broke to take that chance lol.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

I have a HTC Default ROM and even i am facing this problem. Does FLASHING really help with this issue? If yes, then which ROM is the best till now?
Hello,
I have been a longtime lurker/reader of this crazy wealth of knowledge, but i've finally run into a problem with my tytn ii that I can't find a solution to (despite searches). Any input would be fantastic. Let me preface this by saying I picked up this phone early on, new/oem. I can't really take it in to AT&T, especially since it's a kaiser not a tilt. Here's the issue:
A couple weeks ago, my keyboard and dpad just quit working. The phone and touchscreen were still completely functional, but no other input method worked. When I hit the power button, it would turn the screen on and type edfc, and begin recording a voice memo. Immediately that looks like a hardware problem. My brother (tech genius; replaced the LCD with me when that broke a few months ago) took it apart and checked all the connections and everything looked alright. After reassembling it, nothing had changed. I backed up everything on the phone and hard reset it. Still no change. I switched ROMs, and still no change. I think it must just be a failed piece of hardware.
Since the only things that don't function are the keyboard AND front dpad, I'm thinking it must be the board / ribbon that connects the two halves. I don't really have any way to test this though, and that's discouraging. So for the tldr types:
1) Are the parts from the tilt / tytn ii interchangeable, or would i have to find parts specifically for the tytn ii?
2) Is it worth picking up a phone with a broken screen/case etc and attempt to fix mine myself?
3) Is there a reputable repair place that it might be worth shipping my phone off to?
4) Is there another possibility as to why my phone is doing this that i've overlooked?
Thanks for any help
6 month ago I had the same problem, it's an hardware problem. I send my Kaiser to warrantly and 2 weeks later I've got a new kaiser that works good. So use warrantly
I'm fairly certain i cannot send my unit in to warranty. Had I known the extent of problems these phones have since been shown to have, I would have purchased one with warranty. :\

Yes, the parts are interchangeable, so you dont have to get parts specifically for the tytn ii (unless its the housing and you want the same branding on it).
Check out pocketpcthoughts.com they have main flex cable button assembly and the main keyboard assembly for sale as parts.

Thats worth a shot, i'd recommend that if you find one at a good price. But watch out. I purchased a Wizard a while ago with a broken lcd in hopes of using its mainboard. Swapped out the mainboard with my damaged one and it didnt work so i was left with 2 dead devices

awesome, thanks so much for the info. I have a bid pending on a damaged tilt on eBay...keeping my fingers crossed. If it goes for cheap hopefully it fixes it. If not, I may pick up one of those flex cable assemblies, as I'm almost certain that's the failing part. Thanks again

I considered this allready and maybe I will do it, but as long as the phone is sitting in the Krussel case I have to make a hole into the case as well.
I do not understand at all why SE made the rest button not accessable from the outside.
Anyway - many thanks for the tip

It's not only SE. I think it's the new thing to do
Touch HD has the same problem.

Pure marketing strategy...
Imagine yourself buying a new phone: "ah, the reset button is very accessible, hmmm this device should hang up often..."
either that or - "damn i dropped my phone and now the soft reset button is jammed in, i wish they made it on the inside/more protected"
i think the soultion in the touc diamond is a very good one.
Its hidden unter the stylus. No one sees it, its protected and easy to use.
Agreed, this is purely for 'own protection' for some dumbo users

Same goes for the X1, but the cover is just on top of all that, just check it.
Lol
And of course the reason it's the same thing on the Xperia s because the Xperia is actually made by HTC anyway. It's hidden inside so dumbos go pressing it too easily or by accident.
I've been having problems with the sensitivity of the top 2mm of my phone's screen. I don't remember when it started but I think it was around a couple of months ago.
Before, it was only difficult for me to swipe the notification bar down, but now, I can no longer swipe it down unless I rotate the screen.
I don't remember how or exactly when it started, but I remember that I was using ARHD 70.0, then I updated to 71.1 in attempt to fix it, but it only worked for a while but it came back again. I also tried other roms such as MaximusHD and Eragon but still the same. I also tried rebooting to safe mode but still the same. I also used both stock and elemental sense kernels.
I updated my firmware back then to 6.06 and now to 6.07 but still nothing. I haven't tried downgrading yet though.
I tried using the line draw test and the result is found below.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I already searched xda and google but i found no solution to my problem.
It could be a hardware related issue. If it's still under warranty revert it to stock and re-lock the bootloader and just send it back.

Has your device been dropped or been water damaged? The digitizer connection from the mb could have became a bit loose.
*Edit*
I have read on a forum for the HTC One X which seems to have a similar issue to yours where a part of the screen is unresponsive. Someone suggested to clean the connector.

I see, I'll look for it there, though I'm not sure how to clean the connector. Thanks!

I did some more research about it and people are saying it is a digitizer issue. So replacing the digitizer should fix it, but you will need to buy the lcd and digitizer together as its nearly impossible to replace them separate from eachother.
Quote from androidcentral
It's definitely a hardware issue. I have been dealing with the same issue for about 6 months now. When I try to swipe down to bring up the notification bar I get absolutely no feedback . If I give it a smack with my palm near the top corners I can often times get it to start working again. However, it's usually short lived.

I see. Thank you very much for the help. I think I'll just send this to the service center when I get the chance. I will probably ask them to fix the red tinted camera as well. I just hope it won't be too expensive.
You have a dead spot. Sorry kid. If updating the OS still gives you the funk, you need a new screen.

Fastboot, recovery not working, cannot charge, no LED lights. In few words - totally dead. I tried method with checkpoints on motherboard and had successfully flashed official ROM but result was same - dead.
Any one has any ideas whats the problem? I have changed battery from working model but nothing so it should be something with motherboard. But what?

not a solution, as I did it already twice, after a week or two you need to do the same. Probably the only option is to change the motherboard.

Hello i had same problem with phone. Totally dead, then i read on forum that it is probably pmi8994 chip on motherboard that was defected. I order that chip from aliexpress( must know what version is chip on your phone). Mine was pmi8994 002. I paid 8$ on aliexpress for two of them(you need only one) and 35$ for replacement. After replacement it come alive and working fine more than half year. I hope this will help.
