Hello xda dev members, I was wondering if some of you could help me with the following.
On my Diamond I recently installed PocketGBA, and I'm having problems finding a good way to setup the d-pad buttons (left, right, up, down). Up and down aren't a problem but left and right are, seeing theres not really any hardware buttons for that around the circle.
I'm guessing this could also be a problem with other apps/games. Does anyone have a suggestion on that buttons to use or on how to set this up?
Thank you
tis a problem, i have given up with the d-pad, only play games with on-screen controls
Thanks for your reply, however I dont exactly want to give up on PocketGBA
Is there anyone out there who found a useful setup for this? To make it playable? Most of the controls can be placed on screen, except for the d-pad. Which I guess would be a pain to use when on screen anyway..
If anyone knows of a way, please let me know. Thanks.

is any way to remap that scroller on the side to do something more useful like adjust volume or anything? if i want to scroll i can use the little d-pad or the stylus, that thing is just wasting space.
I agree!
Adjusting the volume would be great.

and adding weight... its terrible i tell ya... TERRIBLE...
no but seriously i thought the same exact thing when i bought the phone. now.. i just dont even bother with it.
Volume control would be really handy.
You can adjust the volume with it.
yep, you can adjust the volume with it whilst on a call.
I guess you mean adjust the volume of the ring or the windows sounds - not sure if this is poss or not
i know exactly what you mean....you want it just like the old cingular 8125 was ...instead of a wheel it was more of like a switch that went up or down to adjust volume at any time.
i use that wheel all the time for scrolling. It's WAY faster to navigate than the dpad, ...
Useless is as usless does - scroll wheel and/or tiny OK button

I certainly don't use the scroll wheel as much as I probably should . . . but what about the OK button below the scroll wheel? Talk about useless . . . I don't think I've ever used it except to test it or try to map something useful to it - I truly don't see the point of that button when there's a perfectly good OK button right by the D-pad

Both the wheel and the ok button are there for blackberry device users who use those two input devices as a good 80% of their navigation.
Only problem, blackberry device users try to use the kaiser like a blackberry and find out it sucks in that aspect, and exchange it so they can get their old crackberry back. And PDA users are used to using the other 20 pre-existing ways to navigate the device without using the wheel and OK button.
I feel sorry for those poor wheel/button sometimes.
I like to just play with it sometimes when its in my pocket or i have my phone locked and use it for useless fun.
It's all about choice, isn't it? If you're used to d-pads you probably never go near that wheel, or the little ok button by it. If, like me, you're used to Symbian UIQ phones, which just happen to have a wheel and a "back" (same as ok) button exactly where the Kaiser's are, they're a godsend. Because I'm used to them being the primary controller (no d-pad on a Sony Ericsson P910, or M600i), I use them all the time - the d-pad is just a nice extra. Without them, I'd probably struggle, at least to begin with.
I think HTC have just put a lot of thought into how different people use these devices, and tried to cater for as many as possible.
Try AE Button Plus!

I use the button alot. Maybe because my hands are large I find that using it to ok/close is more comfortable than pressing the one on the face of the device.
For right handed use, anyways. and for picsel browser its mapped to page zooming, so... Its quite handy.
Hi, I'm still relatively new to using the diamond... (approx 2 weeks...)
This is my first WinMo phone also so I'm just trying to get use to it. My question is, does anyone find very little use for the Center Button on the Diamond? Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that around the button is a senstivity for autofocus and zooming, etc. But other then taking a shot with the phone I rarely use that middle button. Am I doing something wrong or if possible can someone tell me what else the center button can do because I'm still finding doing things on the Diamond a little bit slower... Thanks.

If you press and hold on a file for example you get the basic editing options such as paste, copy, delete, rename etc...
There are many other uses but I have to get back to work!! Im sure more members are gonna guide you.
Luck!
I mostly use it for zooming in and out while browsing.
it can be enabled to do scrolling for almost any app - search the forum and you will surely find it...
The centre button is essentially an 'action' button. If you notice that immediately north/south/east/west of it (on the ridged circle) there are softkeys you can press down to navigate and highlight whatever is on screen, depending on the context of what you are using (TF3D, file explorer, browser, etc) much like using the arrow keys on a standard pc. The centre button can then be used to 'select' the highlighted item much like tapping the stylus on it (or hold the button down like holding the stylus to get the context menu etc etc) this makes it easy to select things in a narrow list if you dont want to use the stylus and have fat fingers
Hope this goes some way to hint at what you can use it for!
It's good to get used to some hardware keys, this center button and navigating with 'arrow keys'.
It gets you more speedy and productive, using touchscreen is not ALWAYS the best, it's quite inaccurate (since I don't push always exact at the right spot). So on those moment it's very helpful to become familiar with the HW keys
edit: Oups, i'm not on the good topic ! Sorry
If a moderator can remove this post ...
actually i use the hardware buttons a lot, just cause i like the way they feel when i press them. i know, sounds weird, but hey, they do a hell of a job for me.
Hi,
I've loaded SmartGear 1.0.4 onto my Diamond after reading that it's on a few people's "must-have apps" lists. I'm not having the easiest time setting up controls: how do all of you have your Diamond set up for controls for this or any emulators? The "touchscreen" controls don't do anything no matter how I set them in the TS settings, and setting the controls to use the directional keys does not work well at all (the up,down, left, right of the Diamond is NOT conducive to video game play!) Every time I hit the left key it hits the home key.
Is there a way to get the Touchscreen controls to actually work as game controls?
Thanks!
PS: I'm open to suggestions for different emulators too if they work better on Diamond!!
Nevermind, figured it out.
how did you fix this, i had same problem with another emulator?
Please Please Please tell us how you got it to work.
I tried everything and it just doesn't work.
I'm using the (shouldbe) newest v1.0.4 of Smartgear.
I know that no one has been on this thread in forever, but, how did you get it to work period?!?! I have it running roms and everything but it won't recognize ANY buttons, not even hardware... how do you get this to work? Or can you suggest a different emulator? (i've tried pocketsnes and it doesn't work)
Crap, sorry guys, I honestly don't even remember at this point... I took Smartgear off my phone 3 or 4 days later after realizing that the Diamond just isn't the best device for video gaming (other than games that use the G-sensor) due to it's lack of hardware controls. I honestly couldn't tell you what I did since I don't even remember what it looks like anymore!
The only thing I can remember that I had to play with is the video resolution. Make sure yours is set to "Fit2Win*" (the one WITH the *, not the one without!!)
ok long story short 4 of my keyboard keys are unresponsive.

Tilt Keyboard Fix
Thanks alot i got my keyboard working i wish there was a Thanks feature on this forum
im sorry i dont think you guys understand my problem. Is the tilt keyboard something i can edit and change the keys to my choosing?
My (n,m,p,k,.) keys will not respond. This is not a software issue but hardware. I want remap the keys so that when i press my right arrow a letter p shows up, when i press my left arrow a letter m shows up, bottom arrow a k, shows, up etc....
ive reasearched into that hexidecimal table, but im not tech savy enough to understand it. I was hoping that with all the modding u guys are able to do you could show me how to make these changes.
once again thanks for your time
any responses?

I think its going to be a bit more complicated than a reg edit. Try pm'ing some of the chefs such as sakajati he might know if it can be done or not. Sorry I cant help any more.
(sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, feel free to move it someone)
Hi, does anyone else have a problem with the onscreen buttons ie: you cant press a direction and a or b at the same time?
makes playing mario or any driving game pretty impossible. is there something i can change in the settings to fix this?
This is probably due to the inherent problem with multitouch on all HTC devices (incase you don't already know, basically multitouch on htc devices does not work as it should)
