Guys,
My org uses goodlink (good.com) as the email service provider not microsoft's push mail. I recently upgraded to a tilt and changed the rom promptly to schapps latest release.
The way the good software works is that it adds its own software stack (email/contacts/calendar etc) which syncs to the my outlook. The problem this creates is that my contacts do show up (the right softkey button leads to contacts which are the goodlink contact list) but are not connected to my dialer.
To be able to use smart dialling i then have to manually sync my phone to my computer to copy the contacts again which is a pain. My previous phone was based on windows 2003 whose dialler showed the goodlink contacts directly.
If there are any ideas or suggestions please let me know.

This is not what is supposed to happen. I use GL too. If you sync with Active synch eventually, you will end up with duplicate contacts. Sometimes it takes a bit of time for this to occur. This applies to GL 5. In 4.9, I had to do exactly as you are stating...synch only the contacts with active synch.
interestingly, I have a post regarding Good Mail. I found that using the XDA Live 3.0 (WM6.1) with the reTOUCHED dialpad, my contacts, while in the phone mode, linked to my Lotus notes contacts, not my local ones.
If I'm understanding you correctly, this is exactly what you want to happen (exactly the opposite of what I want to happen on mine).
I have 5.0.3.23 good mail with the above and it works the way you want yours...
Good luck,
MBN

With 5.0 the contacts are shared. If you sync with active sync, they will be duplicated because you are already syncing the mail server. GL 5 takes over much more of the system than past versions. I have found no way to change its behavior at all. If I make changes, it has protections in it that undoes the changes.
thanks for the help guys. I got on IT's case and changed my GL version to 5.0 and a hard reset and the installation of the retouched dialler everything is now working exactly the way i want it. Thanks guys!

Have you tried using Microsoft Voice command with Goodlink contacts? in my search for a solution i found a thread on another forum which said that voice commands/dialling wont work with goodlink contacts and we will have to sync them again. Im going to be trying it anyway but just wondering if somebody has already done the effort.
I can also vouch for that. I am the good admin at my org and the latest 5.0.4.46 works quite nice with outlook contacts and allows for smart dialing.

I use voice speed dial and it works with GL 5 owning the contacts without doing a sync via active sync. Haven't used MS VCMD so ymmv.

I just wish I could talk my IT guys into a longer wait period before locking the phone...30 minutes kind of sucks when using the GPS...in a car. Any ideas for hacks? I haven't found any.
I have several email accounts configured and want to check them manually. But instead of doing a send/receive for each account I would like to have this done for all accounts by pressing just one button.
Any ideas how to obtain this?
(Running the original HTC ROM 1.93.407.1, no modifications/config tools installed)
This is a nice idea but I think you need a other emailclient for it, I have been using flexmail in the past if I am right that client will do the job.
Willem
Thanks for your reply Wilsas.
Beeing very satisfied with outlook as itself I do not want to change the included email client due this issue. But thanks for the tip.
My hope was that it is possible an easy way by maybe with Mortscript (no idea, never used) or to configure the TF3d email menue to do so.
Maybe a simple program that does nothing else than performing the send/receive action for all accounts found when startet and then quit itself.
I don't now or you found already a solution for your mail problem, I found Momail http://www.momail.com/ this is a free mailservice which support Push and forward so you can receive all your emails in just 1 accunt and even reply whit the original account.
Willem
Hi,
Same here. I'm using mail2web for this. All my mail is forwarded to this account so I only have to sync with this one.
Bad thing about this is that when you reply, it's not using the correct account...
Thanks!
With the mailproviders that I use, I have also the possibility to "catch all" and was thinking about that too.
Due time issues I paused my researches.
I am pretty sure there is an easy solution by coding/configuring just a few lines.
With MortScript there should be something like Run( "tmail.exe", '-service "GMX"' ). But autoreceiving seems not to work.
Here is someone that comes a bit closer to a solution:
http://www.modaco.com/content/wizar...button-push-to-open-email-then-send-receive/#
An other way could be following:
A linkklick starts a script that sets the config to autoupdate for all accounts to (lets say) 20 sceonds and after some time change it back to "off".
I am one of those guys that uses Google services for almost everything. One of the most valuable services, for me, is the Calendar. However, keeping it in sync with my Touch Pro is not very easy and although there are some applications to handle the synchronization of calendars, I've not been very happy with them. Also, I have Linux on my laptop, which makes Outlook a little bit hard to use . I believe many people may have the same problems that I have. Having this in mind, I've started the development of a little application that shows the google calendar on the Touch Pro. I've included some screenshots of it.
What I would like to ask you is if this application would interest anyone or if I am already reinventing the wheel and there are better applications already done for the same purpose.
I've also attached the application. Remember that it is in the starting phase and right now only shows the events of the default calendar (except All-day events). If the response is favorable I will add the ability to view multiple calendars, to edit, add and remove events and to notify the user as the "reminder" settings of the events specify (right now I let Google send me a SMS, so it is not that important to me). I have not made an installer yet, so to try the application just unzip it to someplace in your raphael and run the executable (with File Explorer, for instance).
As it is, the application will not store or modify any data in your phone, except storing your username (and optionally your password) in the registry (key HKCU\Software\GooMobiCal).
So, what do you think? Should I continue to develop it? Do you have any other (better) option?
Marco
This looks great. Although I'd like to just see Google Calendar work with the calendar built into the phone. Like it did on my blackberry.
i'm with cladeus101. i would love for gCal to work with the existing calendar on the phone.
but then, i also think that the existing WinMo calendar looks ugly. i like the gCal look more. heh
This app is pretty awesome though! I would love to see the new features you mentioned.

You can use Google .net API to this this. There are some interessting opensource sync tools out there, but the developer stopped developing them Oh and there is no need for a PC to sync!
Yes I use google calendar but I've just been opening it in Opera. Which is fine but if there was something better...
Hi !
Nice application, that is promising.
Maybe that using Mobile Outlook with Google Calendar API will be also a great interesting alternative. (I am using a Mac). Online Google Calendar Synchronization with Mobile Outlook can be so great.
However, If it is too difficult, your application is in the good way. Please continue .

I would like to have a tool like the org. "Google Calendar Sync"4Outook but then for the build in Calendar. I'm using Oggsync now and that works more-or-less. It's a paid programm and the licence you pay for, is only valid for one year. (So i use the freeware version)
In de freeware function, the tool does not sync automatically every X-minutes. (And it supports only one calendar, but thats not a big problem to me)
So what i would like for Christmas is a automatic-calendar-sync-tool that syncs all fields in the calendar (and, if possible, syncs more than one calendar. And² if possible syncs the contacts aswell) Djeez, thats a big question for Santa
I'm with the general consensus .. I would really like to see an app that allows me to sync Pocket Outlook calendar with Google calendar, on an automated scheduled occurrence. As already stated, OggSync kind of works, which means I wont pay to purchase it.
The Google calendar is already available on mobiles (http://www.google.com/calendar/m), which I use occasionally, so I'd see little use in this app for myself.
If there is a possability to add appointments and share the agenda I would like to try it.
Also, it would be nice if the password is stored encrypted.
Hope you will develop it, I'm willing to test if you're looking for testers.
I just found this service that might be everything you already want: http://www.goosync.com/
I found something that is free!
This site is in beta, www.nuevasync.com ...let me sync google Calendar AND contacts for free w/activesync on Windows mobile. It's free for now, but it says "beta" so hopefully it won't change.

I'm impressed... That's exactly what my ActiveSync/Mobilitycentre does. I can even select more items to synchonize there, but wait, i won't!
If i am on the road, i cannot synchronize with my laptop So i would like to synchonize the phone just by using a tool (like the Google Calendar Sync) and my UMTS/HSDPA internetconnection.
Not sure what you mean Daneels. That site does let you sync with only your phone and 3G/data connection, no need for a laptop.
Basically you set up the active sync on your phone to sync with their server settings (that mimic an exchange server) and you can config active sync to do that at intervals of 5 min to 4 hours.
So contacts and calendar, from just the phone, using software already on the phone. Seems to work okay for me, though like I said the web page says "beta" so I'm a little nervous about how long it will last.

...With activesync... Activesync runs on both the phone and computer. By this i mean, very local even without internet, over bluetooth/usb. So i tought someone has re-invented activesync (is also free for Windows-users). If it is syncing over internet, than it's something different . If it enables the use of activesync over internet, than it is extra interesting!
So perhaps we we're having some miscommunication
Yeah, that's what I'm trying to say, it let me sync Google calendar/contacts over the internet with the phone...no PC/local connection involved! check it out I just hope it's free forever
These are both subscription services... I do not think that we need subscriptions, just a app that does the synchronization directly with Google. Without anybody in the middle.
I would be glad to start something like that... but I was amazed that there is no cheap way to develop for WinMo. Yes, the SDK is free, but you need Visual Studio, which is far far from free...

I'd love to see a talented developer coming up with this as well!
please work on this. Taking winmo into a cloud arena is the right direction. Google currently has the best cloud suite out there. This is great. I can not wait to be able to add events. until then those who are interested should use www.jott.com to add events. there is a google calendar plugin.
Version 0.2
Thank you all for your replies. I already knew GooSync, but not the other services, like nuevosync. However, they are either not free or require a third-party to forward my calendar to my ppc. I see no reason to give a third-party access to my own calendar data (Google already knowing my private calendar is enough for me). I was looking for something more direct.
Having not found anything free, I continued to develop my little application and arrived to version 0.2, which now allows viewing multiple calendars simultaneously (including the Outlook calendar) and allows to add new events to those calendars. Synchronization between Google and Outlook is in my to do list, but I prefer to get more familiar with both Outlook and Google APIs before diving into it. Also, there are a lot of little things to do before, such as:
- Remove events;
- Support All-Day events (they are not displayed yet);
- Support Multi-Day events (they are incorrectly displayed so far);
- Allow "Quick Add" events (easy on google calendar, not so easy on Outlook);
- Store the preferences (such as selected calendars) of the application;
- Store locally the google calendar events to access them offline;
- Encrypt the password on the Registry;
- and probably a lot more features and bug corrections.
Anyway, for those who want to check out how it is going, here are some screenshots and the application. As before, you only need to unzip the file to a folder on your PPC and run the GooMobiCal.exe file.
If you try it, please give some feedback on how to improve it and which features you consider more urgent keeping in mind that synchronization will take a while. Also, I'm doing this on my free time, which really isn't much, so the development is not as fast as I'd wish.
I've had an AT&T tilt now for about a year. Had a wizard before that. Before that I had a Palm Treo. Microsoft's sync software sucks. I am constantly making changes to client information. Sometimes I am in front in my PC and I can do it in Outlook. Other times I am out in the field. I am forever having to change the conflict settings in the Microsoft Mobile Sync Center to avoid losing my changes. I don't always remember this. I just synced this morning and found I lost three clients new phone numbers and email address that Outlook "fixed" for me. This is retarded. Why doesn't this thing track last TOD of change and use THAT as the method to determine who is valid. I had more options for syncing with a Palm device then this M$ crap.
Is there another option that will sync my data properly and logically then this?
bump. No one has any advice on this?
Well, man that sucks. Mine updates the information to outlook, thats with XP or Win7.
Hopefully someone has a better answer for you. I'll look over my settings when I'm at home.
Hi all,
I just unplugged my sim from my X1 silver, and plugged it into my HD7. and then, after two hours...
1. how do you actually sync your phone contacts from ms outlook 2007 to it? I tried downloading zune, but nothing. The freakin' thing doesn't even have a manual.
2. I thought I won't encounter a problem since it's HTC and since it's WM7, and since my PC is win7 x64. But oh boy, this is getting in my nerves.
3. WM7 doesn't know how find a hidden (SSID) WIFI. I mean,.. Dang!
compared to any wm phones, just plug the hell into your pc, get wmdc, and then voila. 5 minutes tops.
XD
WP7 is indeed a different bird from WM. Hidden SSID is a known limitation, and hopefully gets addressed with the coming update.
I assume your outlook is not connected to exchange? If so, piece of cake, if not, you'll likely prefer (or not) to use a hotmail connector for outlook. This essentially creates a cloud-based sync.
Oh, and the manual is inside the box in a little pocket.
I managed to upload my msoutlook 2007 contacts to the cloud using OC32bit. almost a piece of cake. But, I'm having a hard time getting it to my phone.
When I try to add an account, it says windows live account is already added. but when I tap people. There nothing in the contacts list. None.
When I try to login to windows live via pc I can see all the contacts from there.
I... just hate it.
Talk about innovation, talk about the future. XD
Use Outlook connector and a hotmail account and everything works perfectly.
Hi,
Thanks! I manage to do it now. After spending a night my phone book has everything on it now(contacts wise). Too lazy to repeat it for calendar, lastly, I missed activesync so much that even your one note syncs to your wm.
I'm having thoughts on returning the phone and getting the android version (desire or X10) because of these:
1. hd7 only installs apps on what windows wants and not what YOU want.
2. it doesn't support pdf file for book reading, document reading.
3. I heard it doesn't open .doc .xls and any lower .doc files. (old docs still exist today unconverted)
4. I can't put files on the phone "ala USB flash disk style" I mean where's the plug drag and go, when you use the phone business wise. how do you intend to use the 16G space? (for movies or music; given the rumored battery life?)
Everything we do on our wm phones aren't easy to do on this wp7 anymore, I haven't reviewed at it before I grabbed my HD7 since I said to myself what do I have to worry about? I have grown from WM5, WM6 and WM6.1, what could go wrong?
I dunno I mean I hope I'm not babbling, I can't google if i don't open pocket ie and type google, I can't install opera, I can't browse flash sites I mean, youtube isn't the only streaming video out there. I can't install my garmin mobile xt, I can't install java app, I can't explore the contents of my phone. I mean this is freakin' alien windows i'm using. I don't even know if I can find my phone on over the local area (win7) network or homegroup.
With all the "I can'ts" I said. I thought I'd better off android!. XD
1. hd7 only installs apps on what windows wants and not what YOU want.
If you mean the app store is limited, yes it is. It's growing though.
2. it doesn't support pdf file for book reading, document reading.
Download the Adobe Reader from Marketplace. Free.
Haven't tried #3.
4. I can't put files on the phone "ala USB flash disk style" I mean where's the plug drag and go, when you use the phone business wise. how do you intend to use the 16G space? (for movies or music; given the rumored battery life?)
Zune. It's just a matter of figuring it out. It's different, to be sure. They also want you to utilize cloud based storage more. The offer free SkyDrive space included with your live account, and most of the MS apps can access that space. Other apps, like the eBook reader Freda, can connect to a DropBox account. Then there is Sharepoint.
I can't google if i don't open pocket ie and type google
Open up IE then press the capacitive Search button. Instantly takes you to Google.
I just found there's a google app in the markeplace too? and yes it grows every hour, its almost endless... pretty neat!
If you say it's just a matter of figuring it out, I hope I can figure it out with an option NOT to upload it on a cloud, since c'mon not all places in the world have super fast internet connection, I don't want uploading an entire folder up there then downloading it to my device.
And even if the chevron thing would work on my device, It would void my warranty so I wouldn't try.
After 2 days with my new phone, I feel much more comfortable with it now. I hope it would get even better.
Gotta follow this up since I don't want to start another similar thread.
I have another question:
The phone contacts (people) always have you on top named "Me"
question is, How do you actually link a contact to "Me"?
I just noticed it now that somebody asks for my bank account and of course, I'll look for it in my notes within my ms outlook contact under my name. I just found out that my name in my hd7 doesn't have a picture and doesn't have a facebook link(not that the FB link is too important), etc. and when I click the link icon in the bottom middle, I can link it to any other contact entry in my phone except "Me".
Technically speaking, the contact named after me in my phone is treated as another person. I tried signing on to windows live, check my contact there, found my name and the options I have is "add as a friend" which is really beginning to sound funny.
Long story short, I need to link my ms outlook 2007 contact(myname) to the owner of the HD7 phone which is me, so I wouldn't retype everything and delete the synced "myname" account since if i do so that would be deleted in my PC. I gotta have 'em both. but I wish I just could link it to my phone's "Me" account.
That's a toughie.
So the "Me" contact syncs up with both your Windows Live account and your Facebook account (which you add in services --> email and accounts, NOT the blue facebook app)
I don't see a way to sync the Me contact with another outlook contact.
You may want to take the notes in your Outlook contact and copy them to your Live stuff.

that's dependant on carrier... I get yahoo, you could get the google search app from the market or pin google from IE to the start so you can launch straight to google.

Yeah, not the blue facebook app. and I think I'll just have to deal with it having two seperate accounts the Me, and my outlook unlinked.
@frontieruk
Speaking about the search button, it is getting annoying when you actually hit the button accidentally. I hope someday a double-press (double-click) fix would make it possible.
I had a similar experience except that I got the "Me" where it's suppose to be the first time. Learning little by little, I guess Hotmail (windows live) is actually kinda cool.
