I've had my Tilt running pretty smoothly on the stock firmware since I bought it over the summer (camera stopped working, but that's a different story). Anyway, I did a backup this morning (SPB Backup), and after the reboot I couldn't get a voice signal. If I pushed the phone button, nothing would happen! Now here's the weird thing: I'm able to get a data connection (was able to get new email), but the phone icon still says no service. Has anybody experienced this before, or know of any fixes? I've soft-booted a few times, but didn't want to hard boot if there was a simpler way.
And yes I did search this entire forum for similar posts, but didn't find any.
Thanks in advance!
have you tried a different SIM from a different operator?
you might want to try a different SIM from a different operator just to be sure your SIM and/or operator is not the problem.
if it works with another SIM, you can be fairly certain that it is NOT a hardware issue...in which case, a hard reset will more than likely resolve your problem.
also, are you able to receive incoming calls? what kind of a message does the caller get in case your phone doesn't even wake up and ring? finally, have you tested sms text messaging? try sending a message to someone and also try to receive an sms text message from someone...these little steps will help you confirm whether or not you are experiencing a hardware issue...in which case you might want to consider having it checked/fixed under warranty.
keep searching...cheers !!!
Happened to me once. I tried everything, but didn't work. If it's under warranty, AT&T will replace it. I went through 3 units in the 11 months I owned tilt.
hmmm have you tried flashing another Radio? (don't know what happened to your camera, but if you've got cam & phone issues, it's worth checking the Radio...
It's happened to me twicw also. This is an SPB Backup quirk. I'm afraid a hard reset is all that's left to do.
Well,
first of check if you're connecting to the correct network AT&T and not accidently logged on to the T-Mobile network - perform a manual network search / selection on your device.
If the above step does not help, try to restore your device with the SPB Backup you made. If that also does not work, well, then ... yeah ... hard reset! I would not really consider a RADIO FLASH on your device since it semmed to be working fine for you before that?
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I tried doing a full restore of the latest backup (that morning), and that seemed to bring back the phone functionality. However, the restore also eliminated a few of my main programs, which was very weird! So, I did a full restore from the previous backup and tested that one out. Everything was like it should be. Then I did a restore of the latest backup's tasks/appointments (only things that changed), and now I'm back to full operation
As a side question, since I'm running WM 6.0 and want to flash to 6.1, would I be able to do a full restore from SPB Backup... or would that be incompatible with the upgraded OS?
You won't be able to perform a FULL RESTORE. There are a couple of changes in WM6.1, so, just to be on the save side I would suggest that you back up your PIM data, then flash to 6.1, restore your PIM data and reinstall all of your application.
BTW:
I was running WM6.1 on my MWg Zinc II and couldn't find any real advantages other than THREADED SMS. The Pocket IE gets a whole bunch of new bugs (for example Frames in websites are not shown or not shown correctly) and experienced a couple of incompatibilities with 3rd-party software application. If you still want to take a chance, good luck! However, I do not believe that you can go back to WM6.0 once you flash to 6.1!
I wouldn't upgrade to 6.1 if you're running SPB software. I was running 6.1 without problems, then loaded SPB Phone Suite, Diary, and Pocket Plus, and suddenly Garmin XT couldn't locate satellites at all. It took several hard and soft resets, and a visit to the SPB forums to realize that 6.1 could be the culprit, and it was. All problems disappeared with 6.0. There was a post at the SPB forums that *seemed* to indicate that SPB apps hadn't been fully tested--they may have used the word "certified"--with 6.1. Good luck.
No, that's not it -- I'm running the latest versions of all of those SPB titles on a stock 6.1 with no problems.
i have no spb apps on this one and i have the problem...it just can't fix the network
it happened few days ago to a guy that isn't quite familiar with ppcs he somehow turned it off and when he turned it on he couldn't get the network...eventually he hooked up after half a day (i'm not sure for how long did this problem last because i don't know does he use soft reset and flight mode)...so i took the kaiser to test it and to see what happened..i messed with flight mode and SR it couldn't find the net at all
tried wm6 and two wm6 radios
tried wm6.1 and two wm6.1 radios
i'll try android...just to test the module itself..if there are any hardware issues

I have a SX-66 that has already begun to do odd things, mainly show the GSM/GPRS WinPPC splash screen and then white screen until a hard reset. I upgraded to the newest rom from the SIemens site, but I could use some US Cingular Specific Guidance. While I have read the intro to upgrades, etc. herein, Cingular's version of the device is not mentioned. Can anyone provide som eassistance to me? What needs to be done to get this thing working properly. Before I set up my Socket BT GPS and BT800 handsfree, I want to make sure everything is perfect, then I will burn a pbackup and put the data from outlook onto the phone. Thanks in advance.
That happens to me on occasion.
I dont have to hard reset, I just soft reset, maybe a couple of times and it fixes itself. I usually softreset once, or twice every two or three weeks. Windows mobile has some issues, but the SX66 is not the only blue angel that has these problems
The best thing to do is this: Setup your SX66 the way you want it, then backup (complete backup).
What I did with mine was to backup everytime I installed a new app. Use it for a few hours make sure it does not crash, install another app , backup, test, install next app (etc etc etc).
I am at a point now that my device works great (with the few soft resets) and if something catastrophic happens I can restore it
Hello.
If you downloaded the 'legit' Siemens upgrade from either Siemens or Cingular's web site, there is NOTHING for you to do prior to running the backup.
Except the following...
Make sure your phone is fully charged. Activesync it first, to store all of your contacts, email, and calender data in Outlook. Reset the phone (push the reset button on the bottom).
Now, you're ready to begin. Connect the phone via the cradle, and run the installation program. Keep in mind, the upgrade will erase everything in the phone.
I also have a BT800 headset, and I can tell you from experience that it doesn't work too well with the Blue Angel phones (yet).
Don't worry too much about upgrading the phone. It should go fine. Just make sure the phone is directly connected to your computer, and not through a USB hub.
Excellent News
Glad to hear I am not too far off. I also replaced the sim chip which seemed to stop the phone from hanging up on the GSM/GPRS windows splash screen. I backuped as soon as I had it working for a while, as you said and today cam into the office to find the Socket BT GPS with map software and my BT800 arrived. Hopefully the BT 800 issues will be solved so those of us with Blue Angels can rpove convergence devices really can do all those things... and do it well. Thanks for the help. This forum is extremely well versed. Lot of posts to read to get smart...
I may have asked about this in another thread, but I'm not sure, and the thread may have died.
I have the T-Mobile (USA) MDA, still with the original (1.8.10.2?) ROM, bought in March, have not done a ROM upgrade on it before.
Now, since I hear 2.26 is much better, I'm thinking of upgrading. Probably to the new official 2.26 ROM, but also considering Xelencin's final version.
I have spent many hours installing programs and tweaking settings, however, and I am not eager to start that all over from scratch. I don't remember everything I did before, so I might have difficulty getting back all the same settings.
I have SPB Backup, and at first thought I could do a backup before the ROM upgrade, and restore it after the upgrade. However, although I have read a few posts on this board and others from people who said they have done that successfully, the prevalent opinion seems to be that one shouldn't do this, that one could end up with a non-functional unit.
I have heard, however, that the new version of Sprite Backup (5.1) has a feature called something like "Device Upgrade Mode", and with that mode one can successfully backup the unit, do a ROM upgrade, and restore the backup, with the original apps and settings intact.
Normally I would not consider paying $30 for Sprite Backup, when I already have SPB Backup, which in general I'm quite satisfied with. However, if this upgrade mode really works well, and one can restore after the ROM upgrade with most of one's apps and settings intact, it would probably be worth the $30 to save the hours of work that would be involved in reconfiguring my MDA.
Has anyone here tried the Sprite Backup 5.1 "device upgrade" mode, in conjunction with any ROM upgrade of a PPC? Has anyone used it with this particular ROM upgrade? IF so, please report on how well that worked. Thank you.
No one reading has tried the Sprite Backup 5.1 "Device Upgrade Mode", in conjunction with the ROM upgrade?
Did this today!
My boyfriend upgraded to the new Sprite 5.1, did a full back up, flashed to the new T-Mobile ROM, and then restored to the back up from the original ROM with virtually no problems at all. The only minor hang up that he had was a conflict with Resco File Explorer and SPB Pocket Plus. He had links displayed on his today screen with SPB Pocket Plus that opened Resco File Explorer folders. With this setup the MDA would boot, but then hang as it attempted to load the today screen. Once the today screen shortcuts were disabled it worked great. I would recommend turning off the SPB today screen shortcuts before doing the back up in Sprite 5.1. Then, after the restore, re-enable.
He's Extremely happy with how it worked out!
I also have the MDA and recently flashed to the new ROM, however I didn't do as much research as he did and I reinstalled everything. I went through a lot more work than he did, but am equally as happy with the new ROM.
The one thing I would like to find a hack/fix for is the Wi-Fi being disabled at startup. I posted a topic awhile back asking the same question with absolutely no responses! Does anyone know if there is a way to make it "allways on" or automatically enable at startup/boot? Thanks!
There have been several threads started in response to the same problem, and the end is always the same: your Kaiser needs to be sent in for a motherboard fix.
However, first try this:
If you are using a stock ROM, back up all your stuff; if it is a cooked ROM, I don't know if what you back up will interfere with the process (I had a stock ROM with bloatware install interrupted, the fix uses a base AT&T ROM with just about everything removed, so the basic architecture is the same)
Flash with HardSPL 3.29
Flash with bengalih RAW ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429117
Go through the setup and UC, once the phone completely reboots do a hard reset (meaning of course that you go through setup and UC a second time)
Flash with radio 1.71.09.01
Restore your data with the backup
How I arrived at this:
My Tilt's 3g connection started spending most of its time disconnected - would come on for a moment, then disappear. Soft-resets, hard-resets, and re-flashing the stock ROM didn't solve it. I used several different cooked ROMs with different radios (inclding the aforementioned one in the "fix") to no avail. While I was able to use the phone on EDGE, 3G was just not playing nice.
I decided that the Manilla ROMs were a little too slow (and I had personal issues with the way certain things worked, even though I like the interface overall), and wanted to go back to basics until the Fuze (Touch Pro) came out and I could dump the Tilt. I flashed the bengalih ROM, which is a stripped-down AT&T ROM with Sashimi added, did a hard-reset, and noticed for the first time in a week that my H icon stayed an H icon, and I was able to make calls and do all the fun things that (a) the phone is supposed to do and (b) I had heretofore been unable to do since the problem started.
Now, am I saying this WILL ABSOLUTELY work? Hell no. All I know is that, in a week of flashing ROMS, radios, and SPLs, this is the ONLY thing that has worked. And I came across it by a fluke - I had already assumed I was suffering from the dead 3G that others have bemoaned, and my Tilt is not under warranty, so sending it in was not an option. The only downside is that Sashimi, which is cooked into the bengalih ROM, vanishes after your restore. So go download the CAB of Sashimi 7.5. Other than that I have yet to notice any unfortunate side effects.
If it works, great. If it doesn't, try it again. If it still doesn't work... get redy to head to the post office.
Ive had my tytn 2 for a little over a month now, and I've noticed something when I'm using the phone for heavy texting. After a while, the phone will more or less freeze. The chime stops sounding for a new text, however, the phone continues to operate, and will recieve calls. Also, when the alert stops sounding, if I close the text messaging and return to the today screen, the screen is all scrambled. I have done a few hard resets now to try and clear the problem. I am going to be unable to return the phone to the place I bought it from, as we had a disagreement over the last phone I purchased through them(long story). The touch screen still works on the today screen, and if you know where to push, it will still open programs, just everything looks like snow....
Now, I have WM 6.1 on it(factory rom) ROM version 3.29.422.1 WWE, the ROM date is 05/20/08. The radio version is 1.70.18.02. The phone is used on a T-mobile affiliate(IWireless) network. The techs there are idiots, and I don't think they could dial with this let alone tell me how to fix it....
My previous phone was a T-mobile MDA, which I did love. I know about using different ROMS, Im just not sure how/which one to use on my TYTN 2. HELP ME PLEASE!
anybody have this problem too? it is getting incredibly irritating. I called tech support last night, and the people that I talked to had no idea what I was even talking about. It almost seems as if there is a lag in the programs. I occasionaly get a screen that is telling me that tmail.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. i let it send the error report, but the text program stays open.
Any help would be appreciated!
have you tried to reflash to the factory rom?
Can you warranty it with HTC?
Sounds like a harware problem -- specifically the cable that connects the keyboard is either loosly connected or damaged.
Try to get service directly through HTC -- but if you can't you might want to open it up and see if the cable is seated properly
im not sure it it is a hardware problem, as the phone will go skitzo on me even if I open the keyboard and leave it open. it usually would only do it when im texting, but it did it today, when the phone was on silent, I switched it back to on, and read a text message(did not open it), and when I tried to close the text and return to the today screen, it froze up again, and I had to do a soft reset. im really thinking its a software issue...
I would try to reflash, I had a ROM on mine that had the same problem, I did a reflash and never had the problem again.
Is there any way that I can do the reflash and still have the pre-loaded settings from my carrier? I'm thinking that I can't, but is there a place that I can be pointed to to get a copy of how to do the re-flash? It's got WM 6.1 Professional on it, and it is a branded copy(maybe part of the problem?). Obviously, I need to take some time to write down all of the settings for internet and such...
Are you talking about the network settings or something else? Most ROM's have a connection wizard that will setup network and MMS settings.
mostly the settings for the mms messages, and the internet settings. when I flashed a new rom to my mda, I had to manually put them in, the auto wizards wouldn't work.
Hi everyone..
I am a somewhat profiecient Tilt user.. had a few windows mobile phones before.. and had my tilt over a year.. I never had any problems with the WM 6.0 rom so I never upgraded it.... But now I ahve a problem... Today my GPS wasn;t locking on so I reset the phone, and as usualy it fixed the problem.. but now my messaging (and email) won;t work...
I have the HTC Home Installed (been installed a long time) and I use the buttons on the clock screen on it to access my MMS and Email... I went to send a txt and it did nothing.. I thought hte phone was froze.. but other stuff works.. I tried email next.. same problem... It also says the MSVC has encountered a problem and that is not working either.. it all happened at the same time....
The real problem is I have my phone EXACTLY how I wanted it.. with this tweek and that tweek... This program and that program.. this setting & that setting... sigh... I have an odd provider (Einstein PCS) so I had to set up all custom MMS, Email, Internet, and other setting that took a long time to get them all just "right"... I thought the SD card may have went, but other software that I know is on the SD card runs fine (including tomtom)... Any suggestions from anyone before I do hard reset? Please.. I don;t want to have to redo everything...

Hi
I have found that when something stops working after installing new software, if I uninstall any software, in the reverse order it was installed, this usually restores functionality. Uninstalling one piece of software at a time and running trials in between uninstallations usually helps to identify the culprit. If you haven't actually installed new software to co-inside with the failure then this advice is no good for you.
For future reference I would recommend using Sprite Backup (I think that the latest version is 6.5 and can be found on their website). With this software you can make a back up of your existing configuration prior to installing any new software. Then, if anything goes wrong you can just hard reset and run the backup file (stored as an .exe file) from the storage card and you'll get back to exactly where you were before the install.
Hope all that helps.
Cheers

Thanks for the advice but I did nto install anything.... I will get that sprite backup though for future use... thank you.... What I did find this morning is this...
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/107262...&maxResults=20
It seems many other people have had MOST of the same problem... When I followed the directions and deleted the inbox om my SD card, it fixed everything... even the Microsoft Voice command.. no idea how they are related, but it must be.... The only problem is that now after doing all this research on new ROMs, I found one I want to try... now I gotta decide if I want to go through all that work if I don;t have to... I think I will do the sprite backup.. download a default at&T 6.0 rom if I can find one.. then TRY The new rom.. if I hate it.. install the default rom and resotre my settings.. Thansk for you help though

Do you have your Einstein settings. I haven't been able to get my Fuze to connect reliably. I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks!
