Hi,
I'd like to know whether there's an app that can show which app is currently using the GPRS connection, or if there's an option to create a log file, which shall contain all apps that used GPRS in a givnen time period, including the data volume.
Thanks.
Check out SPB GPRS Monitor, I'm not sure if it can log each app, but at least it will log the traffic.

There is a new version and its calle wireless monitor:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/wirelessmonitor/?en
Yes, I saw it late last night.
That is exactly what I was looking for.
Has anyone tried this yet?
The last version of GPRS Monitor slowed down my connection so much I couldn't stream any video. Just curious if they fixed this.
Yes, it's excellent.
Regarding slowness, you might want to try Efficasoft GPRS monitor, it's much lighter, but I couldn't get it working on WM6.1.
Just got home and tested the new version out. It has none of the data lag that I experienced with 2.x. Streaming video works just fine now.
I suppose I'll upgrade and start using this program again.
Now if SPB would update Insight...

Well I have a strange one.
Installed vtap and it seems to be good over wi-fi but on EDGE or 3G I have a problem any video I try I get this error "resolved link is empty, clip :" I have youtube with TCMP working fine. I have a TILT with HTC ROM on it, I never tried it on the ATT rom. Very strange anyone else has this problem ?
No, I vtap works fine on my tilt on 3G, but hangs on wifi. I'm on the AT&T rom.

Lol thats funny. How about EDGE ?
I don't know... since I have the AT&T rom, I don't have a way to to turn 3g off. I'll have to check the next time I don't have a 3g signal (which does happen, sometimes the 3g signal isn't very strong).
Yes I know 3G is no where near where it supposed to be on ATT yet. But I still dont understand this. What I did find was, if I do you wifi to watch one video and then turn it of then it works on EDGE or 3g, but after closing and going back to the program it doesnt work again. This sucks I really like VTAP

Hello. I work for Veveo Inc. who provide the vTap service. I am sorry you are encountering this problem. I have a couple of questions to ask to try to get the bottom of this.
1 - Do you have a proxy configured on the phone at all?
2 - What is the ROM version which is running on your phone?

No proxy.
Running HTC ROM OS 5.2.1620 build 18125.0.4.2
running it on the TILT.
Strangly it works thru WIFI or if I run 1 video on the wifi and then disable wifi while vtap is open and then try another video (not the same one) it loads it just fine, but if I close Vtap and reopen it same thing no dice. Very strange
Thanks for the help (really like vtap !!!!!!!!!!!)

We have found the problem. There is actually an "internal" proxy being configured in this ROM. The clips are failing to play when using this internal proxy. We are working on an updated client which will fix this problem. I will let you know when this fix is available.
I've got the same problem. Hoping for a fix since this looks like a good option for videos. Looking forward to it.
Mine is superfast on WiFi of course. And I get some content on 3G....Hardly any on Edge

Just disable the proxy in connections
Used the remove hiddenproxy cab but that didn't help. I don't see any proxy settings in connections. I have the HTC Rom on my tilt and it appears that many are in the same boat as I?

We will have the updated version posted within the next day or so. As soon as it is available, I will let you know. I am sorry for the delay in getting this out.
you shouldnt even need a cab...go to settings ---connections---connections, and look around and there should definitely be a "my connection uses a proxy" check box that you just uncheck...I would be more specific, but I no longer have the AT&T rom on my phone. Hope this helps
I've searched all over connections and I can't find any editable proxy settings or checkboxes on my tilt running the HTC ROM.

Hello All.. We have posted a new version of the vTap client. This version has a number of bug Fixes:
1 - Storage Card - Previously if you requested vTap to be installed on a storage card, it would still get installed into the main memory of the phone. This has been fixed, and vTap will now be installed onto the storage card.
2 - Double Icon - Previosly when installing vTap, there would be 2 icons created in the Programs folder. Now after installing, there should be only one icon.
3 - Proxy Issue - There was an issue when connecting through some proxies where you would not be able to play clips. An error would be reported indicating the resolved clip is empty. This issue has been resolved.
You can install the latest version of the vTap client by pointing the browser on your phone to www.vtap.com, and downloading the appropriate application.
I have been running weather panel for about a month now, and suddenly within the last week or so, the updates have stopped working. no changes in ROM or Radio, and the issue wasn't concurrent with any software changes.
It will update fine if the wifi is on and connected, but it will not update if I am using the phone data connection. Any ideas?
For now, I just connect wifi a few times durring the day and manually run the update, but I would love to get the "every 30 minutes" update working again without leaving the wifi connection up all the time.

if you didn't change anything than that is sort of weird how it just stopped working. For me it started happening when i was flashing different roms.
Nonetheless check out the link for my 4shared account in my sig and under the cab folder download the htc home proxy patch cab and see if that solves your problem as i makes it update fine for me.
What carrier are you on? I'm on ATT and I had to change from Media Net to MyISP or whatever under connection settings in order to get the weather update to work. This was after applying the WM 6.1 update. It may be that AT&T has started blocking that functionality via the Medianet proxy.
Info I should have posted but didn't:
AT&T
Tilt Running Dutty's build 19209 6.1 ROM
Radio 1.64.08.21
Using the My isp connection settings
Again, wifi works, radio data connection doesn't. When on WP's about screen, with wifi connects and auths, with regular data connection, connection is ok, auth fails.
On other thing that needs to be made clear - I'm talking about weatherpanel the app from marsware, not the weather tab in the HTC home plugin.

No problem, once I realized you were talking about the HTC Home weather tab, I saw that I had not made it clear. Unless you used weather panel and knew what it was, it was easy to misunderstand what I meant.
WP Auth
I take it that you are using an updated version with the authorization fix in it because it sounds like you know what you are talking about. But ur issue must be rom related as I am using a tilt with stock rom and my WP is updating itself every hour and establishing its own connection. im still old school with storyr's chameleon theme and still loving it.

I do not use My ISP but it works fine on MediaNet. I am using the WP_Trial08_Fixed and have installed the modified dll and Weatherpanel fix cab for the hourly temp updates. I update every 30 minutes without issues. Do you have the "Establish Connection" checked in the Connections? I have also noticed that some of the themes have a sort of delayed update. The data downloads but only after you have activated the phone do you see a refresh of the data after about 10 - 15 seconds.

I don't think its the ROM as I have been using this ROM for well over a month and the not updating issue just started last week. I may do a hard reset and reinstall and see if that gets it going again.

Yep, establish connection is checked. Its not a delay issue either, it works solidly on wifi, but with wifi off (using the phone data connection) it fails completely. Like I said above, I think I may hard reset and see if that fixes it. I was just looking to see if this had happened to anyone else and/or if it was a known issue with a simple fix.
Well, Hard reset didn't work, still wouldn't authenticate over the phone data connection. I finally got tired of messing with it, and just set it to authenticate itsself.
http://pixel.citadel.org/weatherpanel/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=337
This seems to have fixed the problem, I figure the battery drain for the http server is probably offset by the savings for not having to transmit the auth. I'll watch battery drain and system speed over the next few days.
I recently installed SPB GPRS monitor as I found I was using up quite a lot of data each month on GPRS downloads.
I checked the report today and found that my Diamond had received 450kb of data between 2-3am this morning...whilst I was asleep...WTF???
What is frustrating is that I have wi-fi at home and any data downloads should be using that instead.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find out what app(s) is using grps? I have checked the usual suspects such as weather, GPSfix, etc which are all set to manual updates. I also didn't have any other apps running at the time.
The problem is a moot one as I recently changed my data bundle with Orange so I'm unlikely to exceed my new limit, however it would be nice to know. I've also just downloaded NODATA which might also solve the problem.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Hi!
First you should try NoData. That little program help me to save money. You only enable data connection you use. NoData doesn't handle the WiFi connection, it only handle "dial in networks".
Which application use the GPRS Connection? There are a lot of applications. I think it could be the daily wheather forecast download.
CU, dc7os
I would be curious to know myself. I got my phone in the evening and started an unlimited data plan for it the next morning when AT&T call centers opened up. I did very little with the phone that evening, plugged it in, swiped around tf3d a little bit and thats about it. I didnt actually go on the internet and browse, download videos, or anything else that would seemingly account for the 4500 kilibytes of data it downloaded on its own hook that night. To the tune of 50 dollars as it was not covered by my data plan which wouldnt start till the next day. I called customer service when the bill came and they immedietly offered to throw the charge out. Score one for the often maligned AT&T customer service. Im now covered under unlimited data but I still wouldnt mind knowing which program is going out on the town and partying at night.
BUMP.
After a bit of investigation, I think the culprit might have been the RSS Reader application which was set on auto-updates. Although why it used GPRS and not the wi-fi I'll never know.
Anyway, NODATA is great and is really helping.
I was wondering if their has been any p2p software available for our phones? Something like a limewire mobile. The only thing ive found is an app called MopiPhant. Has anyone tried it out or anything else?

Are you serious ? Do you really want to do p2p on your phone ? Cause first, it will cost a lot on your phone bill and other point, UMTS connection will drain a lot your phone's battery.
i dont see a problem. i would do it over wifi eliminating these charges. then all i have to do it charge my battery then bam both ur problems solved.
I've tried this one: http://www.adisasta.com/wmTorrent.html, and it works fine. It will drain your battery in no time though, so it's usefullness is a bit limited because of that.

Try Pocket G2 Pro for p2p via gnutella..i have a cab that i will upload once i get to my pc.

battery goes ok (downloading on the road with car charger...) XD

I could never get pocket G2 to connect. Both with wifi or data connection.
I also tried wmtorrent on my mogul and it ran really rough. I did manage to download a 700 mb file but the phone felt like it was on fire while plugged in so I just stuck to logmein.com to my desktop and using winamp remote or ORB.
I prefer a slightly different solution.
I configure my torrent client to allow web management.
I can then add to the client from my phone, and my PC will download.
Connection there is also much much faster than over GPRS, and most wifi connections I will be on.
I also setup a secure FTP at home, and have all completed torrents moved into the FTP folder.
I can then access the completed torrents via FTP on my phone, and download them quickly.
I received my diamond 2 on Saturday (yay) and couldn't wait to start playing with it. However it does have one major problem straight out of the box and i wonder if anyone else has experienced it.
The opera browser is very unstable. It triggers a general exception error from Windows and either constantly asks to send error reports (duely turned off!) or just shuts itself down. Anyone else experienced or found a fix?
Secondly the browser keeps trying to render in mobile mode unless i select the link to go to HTML, how do i turn that off cos the screen renders full screen beautifully.
A few other annoyances, The data connection only seems to work on HSDPA and not GPRS, this is a potential big problem.
The youtube client only works with a wifi connection, what!! HSDPA is easily fast enough to stream, is this specific to my device.
Anny assistance would be appreciated as i would like to know if these problems are specific to my device or just general annoyances.
Cheers.
I don't recognize your problems at all. Opera hasn't crashed one single time on me since I got the D2 last friday. It works very fast and stable, better than any Opera cab I installed on my old Cruise. Full screen (not mobile view) works excellent and is always default in my Opera.
I haven't deliberately used the data connection over GPRS yet, but I have seen the G symbol instead of the 3G or H symbol, when being in some areas. So at least it does see the GPRS network correctly. I have no reason to assume it wouldn't work there.
The youtube application works great too. Completely stable and fast, again not like any Youtube cab I tried on my old Polaris before. And I just tested, it works through wifi and 3g.
I'm sorry for your problems. I am really surprised on how great my Diamond2 is. I think they really hit the nail on the head this time. I don't know how to solve your problems, but if this behaviour happens even directly after you hard reset the device, I guess your only option is to send it back.
haven't had any of that really myself and i actually tried to 'overload' opera. I run it fullscreen an all.
have you tried the general discussion forums? If it's opera itself, you'll maybe find something there.
youtube is a bit sluggish at times in 'hq mode' but fine otherwise for me
why is hsdpa over gprs a problem? Both are for data, just hsdpa is quite a bit faster even when taking the fastest gprs vs. the slowest hsdpa data rate.
unless networkcoverage is an issue in your case i wouldn't personally pick 2G over 3G..
maybe you're simply the unlucky one, harsh as it may be.. have you tried HTC customer helpdesk?
I haven't had those problems with opera, haven't seen it crash once yet. Have you tried a hard or soft reset?
I do notice opera on the Diamond 2 is terribly laggy compared to opera mini on my old mobile. Tried skyfire and it's worse, iris about the same.
I found the youtube app works great over HSDPA (and wifi), now this version I do prefer and can't find any faults with it.
my opera crashes if a proxy is enabled on connection settings.
did not have any crashes as i do not use the internet
but when using quickmenu it always shows the opera runing.
you cannot stop it weird

Push internet maybe? (just guessing)
cheers for the replies. I've actually hard reset the device aswell as soft resets. however opera still remained unstable. the problem seems to be with windows though as the error message was from windows and an install of opera 9.5 beta 2 caused the same problem. seems ok now though so will have to to monitor it.
i have to say youtube is a concern as it won't connect unless on wifi.
may take some getting used to or may need sending back, either way i think the software is at fault though, i think the device itself is top notch.
I say it's ok and 30 seconds later opera crashes. dame windows and it's nuances!!
I've experienced some strange behaviour of windows and some programs on my old Cruise some time. Frequent crashes, windows errors and other annoyances, like frequently loosing activesync connection and not seeing the sd-card. In the end, it was caused by a faulty board inside the device. After replacement of the board all problems where gone. I had spent hours trying other ROM's and hard resetting before that.
What I'm trying to say is, that sometimes hardware faults are just causing minor problems, while the device works well most of the time. Then you're eager to think it's a software or ROM problem, but it ain't always. If I were you, I'd send it back. I do understand that's not something you'd really like to do when it just arrived

Tried the proxy thing?
As Trinode says you really do want to turn off the proxy setting within the connections page of WM itself. T-Mobile, for example, always adds the useless proxy setting which will almost certainly crash Opera when you look at Gmail.
Why oh why does the connection wizard still insist on adding a proxy when you clearly don't need it?
Thanks for all the replies, this forum really is bloody usefull!
I have tried the proxy thing, and was waiting to respond to test but incredibly this seems to have done the trick! Opera hasn't died since i removed the proxy. Thanks trinode.
I'm with you wibberly, can't see why on earth they need this proxy setting in there, my data connection is far more stable and opera now seems to work fine. Weird!
One thing though is that the youtube app stil doesn't register a network connection through the phone signal, WIFI only. Wonder if this is a T-Mobile data restriction? The fine print from them does say that you shouldn't stream videos. Didn't affect my last contract though. That said i can't say i'm too bothered so long as the device itself is happy.

Maybe you can try it with someone elses SIM?
Damn proxies indeed. They always block all my e-mail connections. Turning it off is the first thing I do.
I too had the opera crash problem, but after ttrying to get hotmail to work in TouchFlo natively by turning off the Proxy settings, I've killed two birds with one stone... Stable Opera + Hotmail in TF3D! Wohoo.
Now, who can help with my next query?
I've tried to set the max number of tabs to 6, (as I that's the way I had it set up on my old D1,) under opera:config, and change the user id to sgh-i900 so I can get BBC iPlayer, but doesn't matter how many times I do this, (and press save settings, just incase you ask,) every time I launch Opera, it reverts back to it's default settings, so I'm stuck with 2 crappy tabs and no BBC iPlayer!!!!!!
Any ideas?
Is it possible to change the default Internet Browser to IE from Opera when you press "Launch Browser"?

Well, this didn't sort the problem for me. I don't use a proxy. I get the error when rss heb notify is on and it notifies for new updates. Wether I press OK or cancel there it gives the shell32.exe error.

Just to reiterate the above. I received my TD2 today on T-Mobile from mobilephonesdirect.com and Opera was a crashfest until I removed the proxy setting. IT IS A MUST DO SETTING CHANGE!
