the bottom line here folks.. - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

ok so i have a wizard.. a g3, and i've done it all now.. i've tried all the roms (amp, snn, hornet.. brushed)
and with each came it's flaws, whether it was battery consumption, irratic or unintended operation, or missed calls.
i finally settled on a rom (TNT something or other) that i liked, i liked the rainbow at the top giving battery status.. altho it began to chew the battery like a hungry dog on food scraps. and then i checked my voicemail, just arbitrarily.. EIGHT NEW MESSAGES. turns out the whole world was calling, and leaving voicemails, and i was completely unaware! (yet another rom busted)
i'm in the process (actually just finished) reflashin my original cingular rom back on the phone.. i have thrown in the towel.
so i have started this thread, to see, if one of the mega-brains around here has some ideas for me.
i read somewhere that changing radios might help.. but i don't understand why i have to change radios; this one worked before i started dickin with this phone!
so the question is: should i have gone forward with this radio changing, would it have really helped? or is every rom out there just too buggy to deal with? am i really better off attempting to cook my own, or should i just leave the whole damn thing alone and upload HTC home customizer and smartskey, like i had back in 2006..?
i mean i've lost everything at one point or another; stability went away with some roms (crashing everywhere), most every rom lost the MMS capability (could send, never receive), most every rom lost the ability to send an email from an SMS (Which was big for me, but i think it was related to wm6) now the rom i'm using (which is not the one in my signature) doesn't receive calls, missed calls, voicemails, and most text messages.
was all that i have learned on XDA a bust, or is there ONE MORE TWEAK that i needed to perform that would have made my phone... a phone again?

I would just keep looking until you find a rom that suits your needs.
I've used these two roms for some time and both work realy well with my G3 Wizard.

The first if you like cube thingy, the second I use now because it is very very stable, good battery life 2-3 days of use and 5+ days on standby.
Never missed a call, loads of memory and storage I can not fault it at all.
P.s. my radio is 02.07.10

I'm with the original poster, I have a G3 wizard and almost ALWAYS miss phone calls, NEVER get informed of messages, and I can't justify the inability of the phone to work as a phone for the gadget end of the deal. I have the TNT WM 6.1 build 20273.1.3.3, Radio 2.71.11
OS 11.0.4.0
ipl\spl 2.26

The general consensus here (this issue has been discussed over and over in this forum) is that radio 2.19.11 is the most stable, and should solve your missed calls/messages problem. It solved mine.
By all means, Cook your own ROM. It's the only way to get the ROM you want and it's not that hard. It only took me downloading and flashing 2 ROMs before I said "to heck with this I'm cooking my own".

so
you say if i were to have gone to the 2.19 radio i would have finally beeen happy? i mean missed MMS messaging and phone calls and voicemails and all?
what about decreased cell phone reception i have read about?

LIke little girls!!!!!
I Think, I saw, I read, PERFORM a HARD WORK AND DO IT THEN post your results!!! crappy thread.

bhhahahahaha
+que PPC:
i have followed this website for a year or two now, and despite having rarely posted any replies or any type of correspondance, i have noticed you tend to reply on most every thread, often with good info. i have also noticed, however, that most readers and junior/noobs take offense to what you say, but i have read so much of your work that i actually do not. i did just find your post to the first (and likely only) thread i've ever started to be terribly humorous! it is truely in line with a comment you might make. thanks for the help!

Hahahahaha
Wow i heard this too much too!
Hehehe maybe if you are a junior not a n00b understand the point!?
Why does the beginers here thinks this kind of sayings about me? cause they dont investigate and obviously becomes Lazy! thats why we are experimenting here lots of threads that dont has much sense why? cause dont search....
as you see it... im memeber since 2006 and im not a knowledge guy! BTW my work is too light for the development here if many people thinks this kind of toughts maybe they need to examinate again their questions.
I help to everybody but this kind of questions have made once...

I had the same issues... missed calls, voicemail, text message alerts not appearing all due to one thing, wm6 and 6.1. One thing that helped me out was to have data connection (GPRS/EDGE) turn off automatically after a set ammount of time and BAM! no more missed calls. Advanced Config program will do it easily or GB-SOFT Tweak. Hope that helps! Also, 2.19.11 radio only helps a little also....

Talk about jumping to conclusions. I am using WM6 and since I loaded radio 2.19.11 I NEVER have missed calls or messages....
When I got my phone and it had WM5 it was the worst performing PocketPC I've ever had. Now, with WM6 it is the BEST performing PocketPC I've ever had.

Same goes here for me too!

New Phone
Don't you just wish you had a new phone whenever you wanted? I do.
Every time I flash a new ROM (and I flash OFTEN) I get a brand new phone to play with. (I'm not an addict, I just do it because it's fun )
If I just wanted a phone that worked I could use any non-smart phone. They all have PIM's now and lots of them have QWERTY keyboards.
I agree that there does not seem to be any perfect ROMS and that statement includes the OEM's. A complex device makes it nearly impossible for everything to be perfect (just look at the desktop version of Windows!)
Sometimes I too get frustrated when I flash the latest and greatest and find out it's missing something I "need" and have to start the process all over.
But, when I can afford my new Fuze, I'll still be here screwing with it!
Just my 2 cents.
(Hi! I'm Rob and I'm a ROM flashing addict....)

Well....... I never had missed calls with wm5 but the os generally performed poorly so it's a matter of what you value more having missed calls or better os performance. No jumping to conclusions here. I have trouble shooted this issue for several months. And I'm not the only one one with missed calls while data connection is active. Do and search and see the countless threads on this repeated issue. Plus, it could be a provider related issue but seems to be with both at&t and tmobile us customers. Glad you don't have issues though...

i think you are right because.. there's something that is different from 5 to 6. for some reason my gay AT&T needs to switch data connections to do different things. like if you connect to ATT data to surf PIE lets say.. then you decide to send an MMS.. it will have to unconnect then reconnect..? and wm6.1 rarely decides to do that on it's own (like when someone sends you a picture message)

By blaming your problems on WM6, you're jumping to conclusions...You really don't know what's causing your problems. If it was WM6 then I'd be having problems too, but I'm not, so how could it be WM6?
I could say that it must be your connection settings that is causing you problems when ATT switches connections for an MMS, but then I'd be jumping to conclusions even though that's a more likely cause than WM6 having a blanket problem.

HELP. SX-66 resetting on its own?? Battery problem or more?

NEWBIE ALERT! FIRST POST.
My phone is a Siemens sx-66. Its really frustrating me to the point that I am ready to toss this thing into the lake.
I am very grateful that this forum exists. I have spent many hours reading the WIKI site for Blue Angel and other valuable collections of data. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
I am looking for a fix for my phone. Here's the details.
My sim card is an AT&T Wireless card. My phone is a branded, Unlocked Cingular phone. AT&T was bought out by Cingular. My previous phone (motorola v600) broke so I bought this phone on Ebay, popped my Sim in and it worked.
I upgraded the ROM and here is the current report from DeviceData.
Model No: PH20B
Minor Version: B1
Language Code: WWE
Operator Code: XGULA
ROM Version: 1.33.10
Extended ROM Version: 1.40.125
Radio Version: 1.02.10
Minor: 02.10
I should change my Sim card to a new Cingular one, but I have chosen not because the plan I have with the former AT&T Wireless has a TON of minutes and Cingular doesn't have a plan that large. My contract is now up and I am hoping to renegotiate my plan with the business dept.
Here's what my phone is doing: I can be in the middle of a call, using my bluetooth earpiece ( I am always using the BT) and all of a sudden, the phone will soft reset. A few times, it will even hard reset. The hard reset is a major Pain in my ARSE because then I have to re-enter all my internet access settings and email settings again. This usually takes about 45 minutes of my time.
The thought just occurred to me that the problem could be my battery. I don't know enough to know if I need an additional software upgrade or not. Advice is appreciated. I am afraid of upgrading to WM5 because of the bugs that people have complained about.
I love my PDA phone. It keeps me more organized than I've ever been. Unfortunately, the recent problems have caused more problems than they solve.

Thia ia why I upgraded to WM5, but...
The problem is probably a loose battery connector, using a case helped my phone a lot (kept the battery from coming loose), however, you really might want to go with a WM5 install, the worst of the WM5 issues are:
1. Slow phone ringing (there are patches that are supposed to fix this)
2. Some software won't let you become a "registered user" because they do goofy stuff with the registry and your system doesn't respond in their goofy expected way anymore
3. Some people have issues with Blue Tooth, I just wanted features that didn't work in 2003 either, so this is really a non issue (IMO).
Good luck, I still think that you should really consider WM5.
umm... i actually had this problem at one point, but i honestly doubt i had the same one you do. With mine, all the screws under the battery were loose, and everytime i would shake the phone, or anything like that, it would hard reset. I doubt thats it, but check the screws under the battery... maybe some of them are loose?

What are the real, operating advantages of WM5?? I don't want to deal with any more haywire issues with my phone or it will end up at the bottom of a lake.
REALLY NEED SOME HEAVY TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
I am still using the same OS as above. Something has been happening lately...
When my cell receives an incoming call, it doesn't receive it. The red light shows up and the caller's info shows up on history as a missed call but the phone never rang.
What the hell is going on??

try to reflash to win2003se or pick a snazzy wm5 from our boys here, I have the same model.
we had extra 2400mAh batteries laying around so we popped them in these models, definitely a must.
I suggest an aluminum alloy/magnesium case they sell online for about $20US if you can find it, lined with neoprene

Thanks for the info. I contacted cingular and they said they were having technical issues with converting or upgrading stuff.
I'll let you know if I change my mind about upgrading to WM5 but for now, I'll stay put. Upgrading will be my last resort.

Windows Mobile 5 - why do it?

Hi all,
Just got myself an O2 XDA(ii). I have heard people banging on about WM5 and how I should upgrade the OS.
However, one question - why do it?
What will I gain by doing the upgrade?
Will it consume more system resources and therefore have an overhead performance?
What woes will be introduced by upgrading - will it break anything?
Is WM5 really as stable as WM3?
I hope I can get answers to these questions!!
Many thanks!
why use windows when dos works fine?
Windows is a GUI, dos is a CLI.
Both human interfaces are radically different.
The questions I posed are reasonable.
Try this..
borrow a WM5 device from someone for a day and dont use ur WM2003 device.
If u like something in that device, install WM5 on your BA and test it, try it
I thought that this was a technical website for developers - I had hoped for some slightly more in depth answers, like contrasting for example:
consumption of system resources
bugs
reliability
speed
new system features
security
power management
etc...
WM5 VS WM3
Hi,
It is a true question,
- I have just used WM5 a week. So I hope my experience will be useful for you.
Fist, the WM5 store all data on it's ROM so you won't lost you data example: instaled program in device, contacts, SMS, MMS... if it run out of energy, hard reset... But, that causes the speed is slower than official WM2003 Version 1.42.
It still remain some bugs example: sometime freeze when you turn it on, BT and wifi sometime need a softreset to turn on.
The energy consumsion is the same (waiting phone mode). Others depend on backlight, % CPU usage.
Certainly WM5 have much more feature. I really don't known what I should advice you now because I still often reset 1-2 time/day like my laptop. But I don't like thing which is the same forever expecialy softwares.
I hope you can have your answer.

To be honest, I got the XDA because I need something to keep me organised time-wise, so I'm more interested in stability than eye-candy. I don't want to fall behind the times either, but I may hold out untill WM 5 matures a little more. What you said about hanging when you switch on is off-putting enough - I had heard similar things about WM5 related to connectivity, but I've never had the chance to hear about it first-hand.
If anyone else would like to add something of similar content to this thread, I'd be very happy to read about it.
Cheers.
This is xda-developers so the question of why use WM5 on BA sort of answers itself by the simple fact that M$ has not given it to us in the first place (well this could also not be true as M$ did make a copy but none of the providers gave us a rom so that we all go out and by a new WM5 Device).
So why not? In the long run its more of a matter of taste, some have gone for and stayed with the WM5 on a BA, others have gone back and others have gone and brought a REAL WM5 device.
Its up to you, if you read the threads (of which there are many) you will find reasons to stay away and reasons to install it. Like I say its sort of personal.
Oh yes DOS was and is cool, still to this day I use it.
Dude
why don't you just flash to WM5 try it out
Dude
why don't you just flash to WM5 try it out, and if you don't like it go back 2k3, makes the most sense. You seem like a smart chap i'm sure you can figure it out, no harm to the device, and you'll get all your answers bra
My two cents if you like command line and stability learn linux, bash away!

Hi Daeljan,
Welcome to the community! I'm sorry if some of the guys answered like that, but you have to understand that this question pops in from newbies every couple days "Why shall I do it?", "What's the difference", etc... So some of us just get tired of answering!
I am sure however, that you'll find many extremely interesting, highly technical threads.
So, to answer your question: WM2K+3 vs WM5
- I believe that part of doing it was actually to try to see it could be done, I mean the operators left us with an exceptional device (the BlueAngel) without upgrade, so many of us felt "betrayed" and wanted to get the latest, and greatest despite the lack of official support for a release.
- The LATEST version of WM5 (Helmi v3.2) is much more stable that the early versions, I'm currently running it and never think about downgrading back to WM2K3. Amongst the things I find interesting:
- The OS is almost as fast as WM2K3, in fact I run all most of the new versions of software flawlessly.
- WM5 has flat memory and no sharing between the "Storage" and "Execution" spaces (Which is something you will immediately notice on your old OS), so you get more running memory for your applications.
- Because of the above, WM5 has "resilient" storage, i.e. a reset will not erase your data, that alone is a great advantage.
- Some apps that do not run anymore on WM2K3 are now accessible for our community.
- Some applications are natively available on WM5 (Like Mobile PowerPoint) for example, and are not there on WM2K3.
- Better synchronization with your desktop device (You can, for example see your contact pictures directly synchronized, whereas with WM2K3, you can't).
On the other hand, we have a few issues (That are getting fixed with every new release), like:
- Slightly higher power consumption.
- A very, very ugly bluetooth protocol stack... People are doing an amazing job there, and the problem is almost over.
- Other minor issues that you'll discover while browsing the links.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
W.

2) be swamped with a massive amount of posts ABOUT THE SAME THING.
3) repeat in future.
(sorry if im being a bit harsh but i myself have awnserwed this question many times before, just search in future!)
Thank you all for your answers, and sorry for making you repeat yourselves.
I suppose that this is an obvious topic for discussion that many people naturally want to know about.
So why not post a summary of it all somewhere where people can find it without having to mine the forums? I searched the FAQ for WM5, Upgrade, Windows Mobile 5, in various combinations and nothing came up.
The bluetooth problems are a little scary though if the XDA is to be used as a GPS, connected to the antenna via bluetooth.
Anyhow, thanks again.
Hic
You can try, it is easy to downgrade, not compelex as in the instruction.
1. Change to bootloader mode, connect USB run Ship file,
2. After the instaltion procces finished, softreset your BA.
3. The first start maybe get mistake, cause ExtraRom could be changed, softreset again, your BA will run in a pure state, unhide ExtraROM-softreset, copy all files in the ExtraROM of Ship file (extract from Ship file) to the ExtraROM, you can also change ExtraRom as you want.
4. Hardreset---everything is OK.
Wzaatar
Very nice post you did there old chap, thanks. You almost got me to try it all over again.
I use the ROM in my signature and I find it great apart from the odd problem but that could be from the 50+ apps I have on it.
Go for it...

OK, I'll try to give you a different slant on things....
WM5 utilises persistent storage (as stated above) which means that, should you find yourself in the unfortunate position that your BA has run out of juice you'll retain all your data (even the RAMDisk contents contrary to some other peoples posts). This is not the case in WM2003SE. If you let the battery run down in WM2003SE it's adios amigo! And start all over again.
WM2003SE while quite stable, is not perfect, especially once you have several apps installed and use it aggressively. WM5, while technically only in beta for this device (as they are mostly hacked/patched/ported ROM's) can prove to be a very stable platform. I have used nearly every version of WM5 on this forum to try and find the 'right' one... and I use my BA constantly, for business purposes and satnav guidance.
Comparing the 2 OS's is like comparing Windows XP and Vista... XP is a proven system, Vista is not, so direct comparison would be unfair to either... as for performance, with the tweaks now found in the newer WM5 ROM's I find my BA responds as well, if not better, than with WM2003SE, battery consumption is a little higher but that can be resloved with any of the CPU throttling apps available...
I wholeheartedly recommend the AKU 2.6 version of Helmi's ROM. I went away on business recently with WM2003SE installed and while away flashed this version of the ROM. My reason for being back with WM2003SE prior to this was the sluggishness of my BA after a while of running WM5. During my absence the Page Pool fix reared its head and all seemed to be good in the world. While AKU3.2 is the newest version of WM5 it has inherent compatability issues with much of the software available for WM5, even Microsoft's own such as Voice Command (an app I actually make use of!). The AKU2.6 ROM doesn't have these issues, and with the paging fix does not become sluggish at all.
9 weeks on and my system has only frozen once, and that was with a 'hacked' piece of software so I don't blame the system... I have not had to reflash once, and I honestly don't remember having to soft reset... I have yet to find a WM5 compatible app which doesn't work with it, and I use it day in, day out.
In short, I jumped on the WM5 bandwagon some time agao and was very disillsusioned at one point, so much so that I returned to WM2003SE... However I missed the smoother GUI, the much better handling of popups and alerts, the tighter integration with Outlook, the better operation of ActiveSync and so forth, so I came back to the fold, and I will not be downgrading again...
If you use Push Email anything after AKU2 (or is it 2.3?) is a Godsend, and believe me, the overall feel of the OS is much smoother, it feels like a 'pocket pc', rather than a really gucci phone!!
I use my BA to play media, read newsfeeds, browse the web, check/send email, and all the other stuff my mates do on their laptops, and if you have the right settings for your provider there should be no issues with connectivity... I have A2DP set up as well so I have a stereo BT headset for music/video etc... I run TomTom, Garmin Que, OziExplorer...
Oh! And I use it as a PDA/Organiser, my life is on that brick, and believe me, it gets hammered!!
I also have an XDA Exec now and to be honest I prefer the BA... although I do love my IQ (but Smartphone is a whole different kettle of fish)!!
I hope this gratuitous plug of WM5 helps sway your decision
I personally like WM5. The issue for me, and the reason I bought the SX66 in the first place, was screen size and muscle. Alot of the affordable WM5 devices out have small screens compared to what I am used to in a PDA. I cannot afford and Jasjar (wish I could) so I looked for something with a decent screen size and processing power.
The SX66 was the only choice for me, EXACTLY because I could flash it too WM5 Haven't looked back since. I run my games (Morphgear - SNES), work with my files without having to squint too much, play my music and get phone calls. Coolest thing in the world.
I have compared it side by side with the 8125 and the windows Treo, it kept up easy enough. Out did them in some area's, lost in one (no camera)... but in the end its just as functional as the new ones.
Flash it and see!

hi Daeljan,
Just reiterating what people has said before
To be honest, I got the XDA because I need something to keep me organised time-wise, so I'm more interested in stability than eye-candy.
-- if this is what you need, then you definitely need to upgrade to latest WM5 (Helmi, Xplode - both are great). The sole idea of "persistent storage" itself is a must to upgrade. I am using IIs (Helmi's rom) and I actually found my BA is more stable than when I used 2003SE. I had this hard reset issue when I pressed the green button to receive phone call. It annoyed the hell out of me. It happened to me about 3 times... Now this problem is gone. Just imagine yourself is out of town for a business trip and suddenly our "stable 2003SE" hard reset by itself and the back up file is at home in your pc... what a bum huh? it happened to me.
I don't want to fall behind the times either, but I may hold out untill WM 5 matures a little more. What you said about hanging when you switch on is off-putting enough - I had heard similar things about WM5 related to connectivity, but I've never had the chance to hear about it first-hand.
-- This is a subjective comment from me, I think the current version of WM5 out here are good enuf. I dont think it will "mature" too much cause people WILL be busy playing with WM6. As far as I know, more and more developers make new softwares for WM5/6 and less make them for 2003.
Yes, WM5 still has some issues now, but I have not found 1 piece of software that is perfect. even 2003SE had issues. However, these are acceptable issues (for me anyway).
Just a happy user of WM5 and I would never go back to 2003SE (unless I want to sell my beloved BA, then i might have to flash it back to factory rom ).
If you want to wait, dont wait for WM5... wait for a more stable WM6.
Like other happy users, I still have hopes the geniuses from xda-dev would find a way to make WM6 work on BA... whatever solution that is...

This seems to be the best one overall for me since it allows both data and voice calls at the same time, there are no missed calls. But reception/signal is somewhat not good. Does this new radio give better reception for T-Mobile as well as allowing both data and voice?
Thanks
Great radio rom but isn't 2.69.11 newer then 2.40.11?
Well, right, it is newer most likely. The thing is, newer isn't necessarily better for each person's circumstance. Radios are tuned for particular providers in particular places and are usually matched with particular roms. However, in my case for example, with Cingular US service, and WM6 roms, my experience and that of many others is that the 2.19.11 T-mobile UK rom is the best. The others were inconsistent in alerting me to incoming calls and pending voicemails. However the data and sound was better with the newer radios. For me not missing calls was most important, so I stick with the older rom. But, this is a new one for me, and hope springs eternal, so I'll probably give it a try and see if I can have the best of both worlds like those T-Mobile guys.
Regards,
working well on farias "the real thing"?

From what I understand, 2.69.11 is the latest released German Radio rom, but 2.40.11 is a US released rom. So this may work better for US customers. I hope we can use 2.40.11 with WM6!
testing
in the midwest US of A baby.. smoke you!
Just installed it! I will post back my results.
Since I finally experienced the awful delay in SMS receiving on the 2.69 radio ROM (after several weeks of success, I missed 4 important text messages in an hour's timeframe), I'm game for this. Downloading now...
So far my signal seems to be much better than 2.19 radio. but only time will tell.

I too am now noticing a delay\lack of SMS\Voicemail Msg after WEEKS of 2.69 working like a charm. I thought I was one of the lucking ones but now I am not so sure. Who knows how long this has been happening. Anyway, downloaded and installing right now.
Working great on WM2005 .
thanx Faria .
by the way...this is a US radio.....sorry i cant name the carrier at the moment.
I've installed this on my Cingular 8125 on the Cingular network last night. I received a test sms and another SMS from a friend in a timely manner. All test calls I've put through have worked so far. I was even downloading a webpage with Opera and phoned in and the call came through. So far so good... Tomorrow (Monday) will be the real test when I'm back to work, but I'll try to give it a workout today.
thanks for the info so far and please continue to post information on this rom and its working with wm6
P.S.-Sorry for not being able to also post information but in what i do missing a call/calls or missing a sms/sms' would cost me alot of $$$$$...(so thanks for being guinea pigs...poor pigs lol)
First timer dumb question
Hi. I am running Nottoosmart's system with radio 2.19. Things have been pretty stable, but there are times when I've had to reboot in order to reacquire the phone carrier after sleep (e.g. softreset). Also, subjectively I believe I have some signal problems when in places where there is already a weak signal.
So, bottom, line, I am considering trying this radio.
But, I have never flashed a radio before and I'd like to avoid having this become a "federal project." So a few questions:
1. I can flash the radio back and forth (e.g. ->2.40, ->2.19) *without* touching the OS (e.g. wm6 rom/ram), is that correct?
2. There are several executables in the zip: EnterBootloader.exe, romupdateutility.exe, RUUGetInfo.exe; I realize there are tutorials ad infinitum posted here, but can someone help me save some time by letting me know how to install the radio, do I just run "romupdateutility" over activesync, or is there more to do?
Please don't flame. I am an engineer, just not experienced in burning radios to MDA's. I assume the radio goes into a portion of rom that is dedicated to the phone processor of the OMAP chip?

Hello,
1) You can flash the Radio rom without messing with the OS. All of your settings and files will not be affected. It does not require a hard reset.
2) Just run the romupdateutility.exe. It works the same when you flash a new os rom, it just takes a fraction of the time due to the fact you are only flashing the radio. I just connect via USB and let activesync do its thing then run romupdateutility.exe, the program will kill activesync itself.
I hope this helps.

Sound Completely Gone (Please Help!)

Yesterday I flashed my Tilt and installed the RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.03.405.0 ROM. Everything was working just fine. My fiancee liked the new layout and functionality, so I flashed her phone tonight, with the same ROM and everything.
However, from the moment she called my phone from hers to test the new ROM, neither of our phones has played any sound whatsoever. No ringtones, no media files, we can't even here or talk to other people when we make calls. I've also noticed that for whatever reason, inside the alarms menu when I try to set an alarm sound, the drop down menu forces the selection to "Default". Even if I try scroling with the keypad or the wheel, the selection shifts up or down one, then immediately returns to "Default". I'm guessing these two problems are somehow connected, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what the problem is or why it would suddenly afflict both phones, even though I hadn't done anything to mine except answer her call.
I've tried resetting the phone and going through all sorts of options, but nothing seems to make a difference. I can still send and recieve text messages, and the vibrate works just fine. I can even connect to calls, but I can't hear the other person and they can't hear me.
I've looked around online and in this forum, and I only found one instance of someone else complaining about this problem (on a blog with a top 10 list of fixes for Tilt problems), but his plea went unanswered there.
As it is, I couldn't call 911 if I needed to right now, so this is a pretty big problem.
Any ideas? Do I just need to re-flash both phones?

ouch... this is a pretty easy one and has been answered MANY times... check the thread called "no sound or camera problems... change your radio" so yeah... change your radio.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, but I've searched the exact string you posted, I've tried "No sound" (with and without quotes, and several other combination, and I can't find the thread you're talking about. I'm sorry if this question pops up a lot, I really did spend an hour and a half trying to find the answer before asking. Can you please provide a link or show me why my searches aren't finding the right results?
For what it's worth, I think the poster above was directing me to this thread:

but I'm not %100 sure.

oops... they must have changed the title... it used to be "sound and camera issues: Change your radio" admittadly this new title is more confusing let me know if changing you radio to the recommended one fixes your problem(ignore spelling errors, too tired to care)
Wow.. I've been at this for a while now. I'm starting to understand the whole Radio thing, but I'm having the damnedest time figuring out which radio I should be installing. I've found pages and pages of numbers and names, but what I haven't seen is recommendations or hints towards the HTC 3.03.405.0 ROM's compatibility with the various radios. I've tried changing the radio once so far, but it didn't change any of the issues I"m having.. I'll keep trying (So not looking forward to work tomorrow)

listen, you dont have to try every radio individually.... I dont know if your rom is 6.0 or 6.1 but that should start to narrow it down... but worse comes to worse you only have to try 4 different radios... the first 3 numbers are the important ones... after that try the others starting with those numbers to find the best reception/gps fix etc... so try one of each of the
1.27 (if you have 6.0)
or
1.58
1.64
1.65 (if you have 6.1) (which is more likely if this is a new rom)
whatever you do do NOT flash to 1.65.17.10
try those 4 starting with 1.65
Thanks so much for your help and patience with me.
Ok.. this is slowly coming together in my head.
I'm flashing 1.64.08.21 right now, and I'm running WM6.1 on an AT&T Tilt.
And... grr.. still no luck.
Guess I'll have to go without my phone for tomorrow, cause if I don't get some sleep now, I'll probably kill a customer at work.

try 1.65.20.29... I bet that'll get everything running
hi i believe this is the rom u updated to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365047
you may find somthing on there to help. it says on there that the radio to use is 1.64.06.04 but if you alredi tried a 1.64 radio and it didnt work try the 1.65 as sugested. If you still have no luck then try a different rom that should fix the no sound issue straight away.
try duttys diamond rom with the 1.65.16.25 radio
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398271
download links are on the page. let us know how it goes.
I tried your suggestions, and althoughth 1.65 radio didn't work, I flashed Dutty's rom and everything is smooth sailing. Thanks SOOOOO much for working with me to figure this out, this really is a fantastic community!
Glad everything worked out for you my friend, everyone here is very helpful if you have any more problems just shout and someone will answer.

Full HSPA reverts to GPRS every time I make a call

Please help me out with this, I'm getting very annoyed, upset and whatever else you can think of. Two days ago, I brought my Tilt into the ATT service center because of a problem, and they replaced it with a brand new Tilt. My older one was running 6.0 but this new one is running 6.1 WinMo, which I fear is the culprit here.
I get full HSPA bars here in NYC (kaiser tweak) under most circumstances, and it stays this way while I'm surfing the net and such but, whenever I make a phone call, it automatically switches to G ! ? There are times when it might go through with EDGE *the call*, but it's seldom. I never had this problem before the phone switch. It also happens without using Kaiser Tweak, with 3G. And while I AM able to use the phone with G, I feel that this might pose a problem at some point, and would like the phone to be able to reach its full potential or.. just be the way it was.
Help is seriously needed !

i think theyre still using EDGE / 2G for voice calls.. not all markets have switched to 3G/HSDPA voice
I too have the same issue. I'm not saying a problem, cause in my opinion it is not. When a call is made it switches back to gprs. It takes about 30 secs after the call to switch it back to hsdpa. It is probably a bug or perhaps a lack of your carrier.
BTW. I'm with T-mobile Holland, perhaps it is network related.
What I'm trying to convey though is that my other phone (which was exchanged because I thought the top of the slider was loose) did not behave like this. It kept its full H bars through every call. And the only difference between the two phones is that the previous one ran WinMo 6.0 and this one runs 6.1
They DO use HSPA here in NYC, you have to turn it on with Kaiser tweak in order to use it, though.

u nailed it 2 times on the head here..
kaiser tweak..and ur stock winmo 6.1
- kaiser tweak is an essential tool for a kaiser..never leave it behind after a flash and always enable ur HSDPA
- winmo 6.1 is a dirty dirty devil, what i suggest is to reflash and use a good radio..i live in Central New Jersey and im in and out of NY daily ( midtown / diamond district ) and i have yet to experience a dropped call!
im running the below mentioned rom and radio..give it a go..most likely u wont be disappointed!

Well, it's interesting. Paulbates over at hofo suggests (and I agree w/him) that it would have been silly for them to release a ROM which did this, and we'd see tons of threads here and elsewhere about it if it were the case. I only asserted though, that the radio version might not like the area in which I live yada yada..
As soon as the problem started however, I did install Kaiser Tweak, and enabled HSDA. It worked as usual, but the H disappears just as fast as 3G was disappearing, so it makes no difference. I'm also experiencing data connectivity issues on this phone for the first time ever. Last night, even with full E or H bars, as I tried to open Opera or PIE, I'd get an error saying I had no data session open and the web page wasn't available. I tried many different pages of course, so it was the phone.. This never happened with my other phone, and I'm really regretting having taken it back now.
P.S. as far as changing the ROM and radio, I'm very inexperienced (re: have never done it before) and will wait to see if changing the phone makes a difference first. I only wish they had given me an exchange phone with 6.0 on it. Even the guy at the shop said that a lot of people have been complaining about 6.1. Do you live in NYC btw ? If so, perhaps I will take your advice about changing the ROM/Radio myself. Only thing is though, I run Linux. I do also have a Macbook Pro.. Can I do it with either of those OS's ?
Doug
Oh this is so very annoying... I just brought the phone into the store and they replaced it again. The girl I dealt with was very nice, and went through testing it out, and agreed that it was indeed doing something it shouldn't be doing. She even swapped the SIM card, but it was still the same. I then got a new (refurb of course) and it seemed to stay on E in the store, but then I wandered outside into Bryant Park (where I am now) and the same ol' junk occurred.
The last call I made actually stayed on Edge, but that was about 1 of 7 calls. Not only that, but now my voice mail doesn't work either... It asks if I have an account, then prompts me to put in my phone number. When I do, it says it's not a valid account. I'm really regretting switching my phone over, big time.
I'm going to call CS and see what they have to say (yes, we know the network isn't solid right now, but we're "working on it") Yah...
This really puts me off, but if they can't do anything, I'll start messing with the ROMS. It's just that my download speed right now sucks, too. Can someone direct me to a mobile internet speed test, which is good ? I tried toast.net, but it's too slow to load anything on any of the servers. And speedtest.net requires flash, but those probably aren't very good for mobile phones, anyway.
Doug
