I have 2 account with Gmail and Comcast on my Tilt. I tried to use XpressMail but I was not impressed, plus I couldn't get more than 1 account to work with it as well.
This is mainly personal use at this point so I'm not in dire need of getting my emails immediately, but I do get them throughout the day so I don't want to wait too long either.
From a battery standpoint, which option is better in your opinion? If I have both accounts check every 30 mins, will that consume more battery as opposed to using a Push method for both?
And if Push still is the way to go, what's *the* best option for getting both accounts pushed to me? I only have my desktop at home for any necessary software.

You can't push any mail that's not on Exchange, so unless you sign up for a hosted mailbox, you're limited to the time based options.
Push will consume more battery due to the always open connection, but if you shut of HSDPA until you need it (grabbing attachments, surfing) it won't be significant.
I was able to get XPressMail to do it but it was inconsistent and a hassle. Is that the only non-Exchange option?

Wha tis seven? and how does it cmopare to mail2web (free version)
can it sync with PC outlook and does it run off your home computer?
It's a push implementation. It doesn't sync to any desktop software if that's what you're looking for.
I have just ordered Blackberry to go with my XDA Stellar, to push from my AOL and various other personal email accounts, as I've got used to the push functionality on my BB Pearl and the plan also comes with unlimited web browsing.
No one else on here seems to use Blackberry Connect on the Kaiser, so I'll do a bit of a review of it, once I've had it working a few days. My biggest concern is the battery life, and if it is awful I plan on doing without. The thing is though the Pearl has pretty powerful hardware underneath it and can last the best part of a week without charging, so I'm hoping the Blackberry Connect service will be prety frugal.

I quite disagree. The whole point of DirectPush is that it does NOT consume battery power unless it's actually transferring e-mail. The method MS came up with is actually QUITE clever - and is documented on their website in a number of places, so I won't try to repeat that here.
My own experience bears out that battery consumption is proportional to e-mail quantity. On slow days the battery drops hardly at all. When I'm getting hammered with e-mails, I can see the battery dropping noticeably quicker.

I got an ATT Tilt a couple weeks ago and I installed Kaiser Tweaks. I noticed that my battery drains extremely fast (rarely lasts an entire work day) and I wanted some advice on what settings I would want to adjust to help with this. I also downloaded Slick for my instant messenging and I also want to know if any of these power management features will disconnect me from my Slick im. I notice that often times when I leave my phone idle for a long time (ie when it is on the charger and I'm asleep) my Slick im (or other IM's I've used too) will be disconnected. It seems like I never had that problem until I installed Kaiser Tweaks. So basically I'm wondering how I can conserve power but ensure that my IM service never disconnects me since I rely on AIM messages for a lot of things I do. Any help is appreciated. Also feel free to message me on AIM if it would be easier - JPAY2002 is my screen name.

FOR ME kaiser tweak has always improved battery life and secondly this belongs under the kaiser tweak sticky and not as a new thread and thirdly running any program continuously will drain battery. Buy a back up battery
If you're using slick 24x7 then you're using data 24x7 = battery drain. If you have data turn off after a certain time, then you will get better battery life.
I can agree with all of the above. I had pocketweather updating every 5 minutes and I had the same issue of not being able to make it through 1 work day. I switched it to update every 75 minutes and the batter life is MUCH better.
Now I have blackberry connect that also stays on all the time...not much I can do about that...but it's interesting that Blackberry Connect does not seem to drain the battery in the same way that Media Connect does
Before anyone accuse me of it, I did, in fact, look through the other battery threads on this forum (and other forums, for that matter), and I've already applied numerous tricks. I managed to get my phone to last roughly 9 hours from my typical usage, which now makes it comparable to other phones I've used in the past.
However, in about a day or two, I'm going to be getting a bluetooth headset...which basically means that I'm going to need to keep the Captivate's bluetooth on 24/7 (or, at least, most of the day). I really don't know how much battery this is going to cost me on the Captivate, so I'm trying my best to make things better now to make things smooth in the future. However, I appear to be at the end of my rope.
I have pretty much gimped the Captivate as much as one could reasonably take (more, I'd dare argue). I cut all of my volume down to half of what it was and I removed most of the quick icons. I also set a completely black wallpaper, I turned off all animation, and I turned the brightness down to its lowest setting.
I honestly don't know how to make it any worse. The SAMOLED screen is basically a meaningless PR term to me now and I'm actually missing phone calls from sheer lacking of hearing my phone ring...despite it being right in my pocket.
Going even further, I also attempted to switch to ADW.Launcher based upon recommendations by others that it increases battery life (I found that it had little to no effect). I also attempted to severely underclock my CPU (down to 200Mhz) based, again, upon other claims that it increases their battery life all the way to as high as 30+ hours on a single full charge.
Somehow, underclocking my CPU actually made the battery die out faster.
Furthermore, I attempted to use programs (SMODA, 2G/3G) which claim they allow me to switch to EDGE because, for some God-forsaken reason, Android doesn’t seem to have any toggle for doing it. Unfortunately, none of them seem to work; rather than switching to 2G, they all just completely disabled data, which, unfortunately, is completely unacceptable to me. So at this point, I only seem to have a few more extreme (from my perspective) options. Once I actually get the bluetooth, I plan to turn off most of the auto-updating apps (email, weather, twitter, etc), and just update them myself periodically. Furthermore, I plan to turn off the GPS location feature once I get my GPS unit.
Beyond the above, though, as I said, I'm at the end of my rope. Once I employ the other tricks, I figure I might be able to stretch battery life to 9.5-10 hours, but I would like to go even further. If anyone could offer me some help, I would highly appreciate it.
if your gonna have a bluetooth headset on disable your ringtone completly that would be meaning less. if your near wi-fi a lot have it connect only though that.
also you can clock the cpu down to 100Mhz along with the GPU.
AND to force 2G/edge read my howto in general
oh the ext2 lagfix can also save you some battery life

I'm already doing the first sans disabling ringtone. I'm not so sure doing such a thing would be acceptable to me.
As for the underlocking suggestion, as I said, I underclocked the CPU all the way down to 200Mhz and the battery actually drained even faster. I doubt underclocking even further is going to help. Furthermore, I actually did try 100Mhz originally, but the performance was so horrendous that it was unbearable.
As for the lag fix, I already have it. Lastly, I knew about that 4636 technique to switch to 2G already, but, unfortunately, it doesn't appear to work for me. The setting doesn't save and 3G still remains.
EDIT: I actually found a way to make the above work. Simply dial *#*#197328640#*#*, then go Debug Screen > Phone Control > UE State Control > Change RAT to GSM. This will actually force your phone to use GSM only. This seems like the answer to all of my battery problems....except it doesn't work. Once you make the change, the INFO menu reports that it has been changed to 'GSM Only', but data appears to have been disabled. Restarting your phone makes data works again, but the INFO menu reported that data has been reset back to 'GSM/CDMA auto'. Yay.
If you haven't already, turn off GPS when you aren't using it. Use the Power Control widget to help. Make sure all of the things in the power control widget are off unless you are using it. And use advanced task killer if you haven't already.

ive been running jh3 (now jh7) with sre. get to work (i run 2g at work)at 9am listen to pandora all day through bluetooth (which is on for 6-8hrs) and wifi (6-8hrs) good amount off browsing bout 30 min of voice calls, some texts email checking, more browsing, some games. on average lately after being unplugged for 13-17 hrs at the end of the day with 20-30% life left,using bout 3hrs of display, 30 min voice calls, bluetooth doesnt use crap bout 3%, media server usually 15%, cell satndby i wanna say 10%, im pretty happy i guess, even though im always lookin for better results, tryin the new sre with undervolting, heard some good things.
still when that seidio 3200 mah battery comes out im gettin it, dont care how fat it makes the phone, things to dang thin as it is, and without some sort of cover its like a wet bar of soap!!
What is your typical daily usage? I have fairly light usage (few games here and there a little music and a good amount of web surfing, app browsing and texting with a few phone calls using speaker phone) and I'm at 28 hours of use with 55% battery.
I have just the typical power saving tricks(gps off, bluetooth off, screen at minimum or 30% and my data doesn't sync automatically), no under clocking or anything. I should point out I'm running a euro galaxy rom and am not ever on a wifi connection.

Wow you are lucky. Yesterday I got 2 phone calls for a total of 3 minutes. I sent 7 text messages. I surfed the web maybe for 15 minutes. No games. Nothing else major. GPS off. Bluetooth off. Wifi on. Screen at 22%. Only background data I have is email which checks once every hour and a weather widget that refreshes every 6 hours. I got barely 12 hours in before my battery died.

Typical usage for me runs along this line: A lot of web browsing, perhaps 30-45 minutes of music, and plenty of IM. I also use Aldiko to read now and then. Calls do factor into this, but typically only two or three 10-15 minute phone calls.
Truthfully, I simply don't see how it is possible for you to use the phone for 28 hours straight and still have 55% battery. I could lose 30% battery just by leaving my Captivate on stand-by for 30 hours.
I certainly understand the interest in having the best battery life possible.
Are you in a work environment where you cannot plug it to a computer for part of the day?
Fortunately, I am. And I always have it plugged in in the car.
I don't want to have a powerful phone with all the features turned off in order to keep it going.
I dont see how you can get 28hrs @ 55% either, with the kind of usage he was claiming, i wouldnt exactly call that light usage

Well, I do have a work environment where I can keep my Captivate plugged in, but only half of the time. Other times, I need to move. Aside from that, it kind of annoys me to use a phone attached to a wall socket. I prefer to keep my smartphones plugged in only long enough for them to fully charge (or at least charge to 80+%), then unplug them for usage. This is kind of tough for the Captivate considering it takes 3-4 hours to fully charge.
I also fully agree with you on the last point, which is what makes all of this so frustrating.
*Sigh* It's really too bad the Captivate is my first Android phone; it's been kind of a negative experience for me so far. Ironically enough, the one issue that hasn't been a problem for me is the one issue most seem to be having -- GPS performance.

I am in class for most of the day so the phone is idle most of the time but i only play about 10 minutes of music with about an hour or 2 combined web surfing and games but my phone is still chugging at 39 percent battery life at 38 hours of usage. I guess that qualifies as light usage then.

I'm honestly shocked at your usage. Am I reading right that in the 38 hours since you last charged it, you only used it for 10 minutes of music and a combined 1-2 hours of web surfing/games? I wouldn't call that light usage. I would call that hardly any usage.
Under such conditions, I can see why your battery life lasts so long.
I don't see why you can't get a days worth of usage out of your phone. Cell phone calls use the most battery - that is why the phone is rated at about 5 hours of talk time. This would be in the best signal area. If you are in a lower signal environment (especially in a heavy building all day) you will see faster battery drain.
I am not sure why you are bothering with BT if you are only talking on 2 or 3 calls - but if you take 3 15 minute calls that is at least 15% of your battery - the only way to change this is force the phone to Edge.
I would not lower ringtone volume - that is not a big battery saver in the grand scheme of things and you are missing calls - not a good trade off. If you are doing a lot of web surfing, go WiFi instead and you will see big battery imrovements. 3G voice and data suck battery - it doesn't matter if you have android or iPhone.
If you put your phone in Airplane mode you can go for 5 days between charges with minimum use.
The radio does kill the battery, I don't think the battery usage screen really depicts this. Since I've gotten my captivate my old BB Bold (at the time would only last 3 hours due to its degraded battery) lasts days on end with its radio disabled while sitting in my desk. I'd love to see native 3G toggle or at least a captivate catered app, I'd even pay for the latter

Well, that rating is probably the battery life if your decide to talk on your phone for five hours straight. I really, really doubt it takes into consideration the in-between times (games, apps, and, of course, web surfing). Phone calls undoubtedly takes the most amount of battery, but Internet usage is probably second place and, as said, I use that fairly often.
Lastly, I'm not planning to use my bluetooth exclusively for phone calls. I'm going to use it for calls, listen to music on the Captivate, chat on my PC, and so on. It's multi-usage.
Next, you're missing a lot of the things I said. As I said, I already tried numerous methods to force the phone into 2G; not one of them works (they either don't work at all or actually completely disable my data). I'm already using wifi as opposed to 3G as much as possible.
Lastly, I'm sorry, but using airplane mode to save battery is not acceptable. If I'm even willing to consider this, then I might as well just turn off the Captivate to save battery.
I just read something about an external sd card being another battery drain.
Took mine out and we will see. I was already getting through the day with about 20%left.

I didn't meant to suggest that airplane mode was an alternative, just to point out that the cell radio for Voice and Data is your biggest drain.
If you are going to use the phone for almost an hour of talk time, heavy web surfing and BT connections for tethering then your battery life will be limited. If you are using BT to chat on your pc - then maybe tethering with USB would be better - you could charge at the same time.
Your other option is to get a spare battery.
And I did read what you had to say, I just didn't realize how much you were expecting your phone to do. The only numbers your provider were around talk time.
I use my phone a lot and I charge it every 24 hours - I am more then satisfied - but I know that if a spend an hour or more talking on it and bunch of web surfing that I will have to think about charging it as my usage increases.
There is a way to force the phone into 2G. It isn't very user friendly. I have tested this and it works great.
Enter the Phone app.
Dial *#*#197328640#*#*
Select [1] DEBUG SCREEN
Select [8] PHONE CONTROL
Select [4] UE STATE CONTROL
If you want 2G, select:
[3] CHANGE RAT TO GSM
If you want 3G, select:
[2] CHANGE RAT TO WCDMA
I've been revamping this thread for new devices for years hoping to share some of the love with newer users. Over the time I've been on android, I've learned a few simple things that can greatly assist in the battery life of our wonderful smartphones.

My tips for good battery life:
Tips for both Rooted and Non-Rooted users
1.Turn off all radios when not in use.
(Bluetooth, wifi, data, 4G/Wimax/LTE, NFC, etc) Use a widget like the default power widgets, Switchpro, or a similar app from the market. *Many rooted ROMs generally allows users to access these radios and other settings from the notification pulldown menu.* The radios of the phone draw power if on even if the user isn't actually utilizing the radio's functions. A radio searching for signal (if you are in a low-signal area) drains more than a radio with good signal, so again, turn 'em off when you aren't using 'em.
To manually turn off radios without a toggle, go to Settings>wireless & networks. This can be accessed from the notification pulldown and hitting the cog icon.
Wifi uses less battery than 3G, so use wifi when you can. Another important setting to note is more dependent on the user. If you live in an area without 4G LTE coverage (check here to see), then go into Settings>Mobile data>Network Mode and check CDMA Only. This will prevent your phone from unnecessarily searching for LTE coverage, which wastes a ton of battery life.
3. I love live wallpapers, and I’ve always been a fan of pixel zombies, but they are really only good for showing off due to their battery drain.
4. Set your screen timeout/brightness to something that fits you.
The screen is the highest drain of battery power on any smartphone. BY setting the timeout, you can prevent your phone from staying on when you don’t manually turn off the screen. Also, manually turn off your screen when you’re done with your phone.
Another huge tip is to turn on automatic brightness (it is enabled by default). This greatly reduces power consumption by constantly changing the brightness of your display, tailoring it to your needs.
Settings>Display, gestures & buttons>Sleep
I use 30 seconds.
4. Task killers used to be all the rage, but no longer.
Here is the ultimate, in depth, graphically assisted, explanation by the famous Fresh ROM's chef, Flipz. Shortly, in light of recent testing, really don’t do anything but force apps that the android OS needed to be open, and thus didn’t close, to re-open. So try not using them, unless for stuff like trying to figure out why your phone isn’t sleeping with system panel. You really won’t notice a performance difference, and the adverse effects you aren’t seeing will stop
+=+ A good alternative is the application SystemPanel Pro. It has a free version, but I highly reccomend purchasing the paid app. It basically monitors everything going on with your phone's usage both in real time an in terms of usage history. If your battery is draiging fast, it tells you what app was doing it, how much it was doing it, and allows you to stop it.
5. I'm sure you have all heard around that your phone isn't "sleeping".
This is referring to the phone's "awake" time, hence the name. When you go to Settings>Power>History. You can compare the lines from awake to screen on versus time on. "Time on battery" refers to the amount of time since the last reboot. The "awake time" is how long the screen has been active. The problem is, a lot of the time, due to the endless possibilities of inconsistencies between apps/ROMs/kernels/phones, the phone will not go to "sleep", drawing power proportionate to the screen being in use when it reality the phone is sitting idle.
If you compare these times and they are the same, or if you note the difference (turn off the screen for a minute, then re-check and they are the same), then your phone is not sleeping.
One solution is to reboot.
I recommend two apps to help monitor:System Panel and Better Battery Stats. These two apps (explained in their FAQ's and descriptions greatly aid in finding those rogues.
Usually, SystemPanel will show an app that has gone "rogue" and is keeping your phone awake.
-This is done by hitting menu>settings>monitoring enabled. Then after some time has passed, ht menu>monitoring>history>change tab to top apps, and see if anything is above, say, 2-4%.
Uninstall applications/reinstalling them slowly, checking after every install to see what is causing it is one tedious but surefire solution.
Lastly,
Follow these steps that I have discovered almost always work.
1. Reboot phone.
2. Instantly upon reboot, as soon as you gain control, open up some type of monitor/taskkiller
3. "kill all" tasks on startup; about 2 times in quick succession should do the trick.
4. Turn off the screen and leave it for about five minutes.
5. Check the up time v. awake time and see if they are the same.
6. If they are, repeat steps 1-5. If they are different, you are good.
6. Apps and Combinations to watch out for!
-Facebook- Tries to sync live feed all the time, HIGHLY recommend unchecking this box, as it creates a massive draw on data
-Skype- This app reportedly (I've seen it myself) likes to sync random data and open up the network for fun. Sign out of app when not in use to fix
-GTalk- This application keeps you constantly connected to all of our google contacts across of your accounts. I have several accounts that I must maintain, and by default the application had me signed in and maintaining a connection with all of them. Open GTalk, then hit each account and sign out to neutralize this puppy. Unless of course you want to stay signed in.
7. Manage your syncing.
This is a big one, and it differs from person to person. Go to Settings>Accounts and Sync, and take a look at what's going on there. Listed app titles means that there is an account syncing data. I, for example, have four email addresses, facebook, dropbox, box, weather, etc. That is bad. You should go through and turn off syncing for nasty apps you might not have known were accessing the internet, or limit the access of apps and services that you do want to allow.
The problem lies in the way this syncing is handled. Each app/service runs on its own schedule, making it particularly likely that your phone could almost always be establishing a data connection and trying to download data for your various apps. See step 2 regarding the app Juice Defender to handle this problem.
8. Vibrate/Haptic Settings
Vibration and haptic feedback eat up a surprising amount of battery. If you have the haptic feedback enabled, then every time you press anything your phone puts out some juice to make itself dance.
Settings>Sound>Vibrate on touch
Some apps have their own haptic feedback settings, and notifications are their own set entirely.
Tips for Rooted users:
1. Try out custom kernels.
By going to the Sprint HTC One Android Development section of the forums, you can see all of the different kernels being developed. These allow for all kinds of modifications like underclocking the CPU and undervolting, both of which save battery. To see how to use them, read the FAQ's in each thread's OPs.

2. Use Rom Toolbox Pro, SetCPU, or some CPU clocking app in compliance with whatever your custom kernel allows.

-Profiles from SetCPU should usually involve these for battery life optimization:
-Screen off at the minimum clock speed for both, with the max raised on level if sluggishness is apparent
-A temperature greater than “X”
-General power related profiles that lower cpu speed at lower battery levels
(Note that setcpu has fallen off of the radar, but clocking your cpu to levels that suit your needs is still viable, although many argue that the android system's core management should best be left alone. Read up for yourself and make an educated decision)

NOTES:
*Some apps or processes begin to run at startup and keep the phone awake. These apps are not detected by things like spare parts or system panel, unless sometimes represented in the "system" process, in which case its usage will be unusually high.
This shouldn't take more than three repeats, and if it does, you need to factory reset, and slowly add apps back to see what's causing the problem.
___----When it comes to people claiming 20 plus hours of moderate/heavy use out of their current setup or other ridiculous absurdities, consider my position: No matter what you do, the cellphone battery is the cellphone battery. You can tweak it and customize it with kernels, ROMs, and settings, but none of that will turn it into a car battery. The main problem (besides a false sense of pride) that leads to these reports is the misunderstanding of what the usage levels are, so here’s my best summary:
* *Light usage – Phone screen actually on for maybe 0-2 hours. Things like a few texts, some emails, 20 minutes web browsing, etc.
* *Moderate usage – You watched a few youtube videos or similar apps, sustained web browsing, hundreds of texts, some games. Hours range from about 2-5 of screen on
* *Heavy usage – LOTS of video watching and games, pictures or video recording, or some high def gaming/movie watching for at least an hour to an hour and a half in total, with lots of emails and texts, browsing, and other app shenanigans. 5+ hours
*I’m sure everyone doesn't agree with all these numbers, but this is most likely a good average of what powerusers think. All specific hourage may vary due to differences in phones, batteries, ROMs, and kernels… Which also means that most battery comparisons are pointless; it’s only what you can improve on that counts!
I’ll update this whenever I see good stuff, people remind me, or I remember/come across things I do.

I was wondering how effective is the Snapdragon BatteryGuru app from qualcomm vs juice defender if you ever tried that app before? I have used juice defender with my EVO 3D but I didn't liked the that the app was turning off Wimax even tough my phone was charging while using it.
Not only are we fighting the screen. We are fighting the quad core processor. It seems to be very aggressive.

It's aggressive when it feels the need to ramp up. When installing several apps, the damn thing actually gets hot to the point where I put it in the freezer. [edit: this is dumb according to the device's thermal protection] I know that the components shouldn't be reaching those temps....
I'm on the lookout for more info on explicit effects of the quad core on battery life and direct ways to combat it.

Turn off Juice defender. In fact, uninstall it. You will see your battery life is actually improved.
Leave the quad core component alone. If the cores aren't being used, they're offline. Offline is essentially 0 power consumption. The only case I can see improving battery by disabling cores would be for games. Otherwise, its probably detrimental.

Juice defender has a large multitude of components. If some parts use more power for you, then you should post which of them you believe they were, before and after, possibly with battery graph screenshots.
On the last quad-core device that I had used there was a problem where the cores would ramp up unnecessarily for small tasks, so there is certainly a possibility for improvement.
On an unrelated note, there are other things that I want to add to this thread, including screenshots, so if anyone has anything to add, just tell me.
What I don't get is that a lot people seem to believe they know better than HTC's engineers. Doing things like forcing off cores, how do you know that's really saving power? For all you know, the power loss of enabling an extra core for a small task is insignificant to ramping up an already active core to do the same thing.
Sure there are some things you can do to improve power usage (such as avoiding wakelocks) but if you start changing numbers for how internal software power functions work, you should have some damn good reasons why. Even a graph isn't going to be terribly accurate unless you can substantiate the gains across multiple tests. Many of the improvements people mention often have an impact of less than 1% over the course of an entire charge, and that's nearly impossible to even measure. The battery percentage indicator is only an estimation and not only varies between device, but even varies based on the temperature!

Sure man, sure. There are surely negatives associated with turning off, down, or generally altering core performance. However, taking the decisions that HTC engineers coupled with HTC software designers implemented for mass consumption as the best option for all users is foolish. The reason we have a development community revolves around that concept.
Several of the things I talk about have an impact in terms of hours the device can function without being plugged into an outlet, which has little to nothing to do with battery percent levels.

Battery percent or how long the device is on is still a hard comparison to make.
You could do the EXACT SAME THING on the phone twice, from full charge to dead, and you'd get a different length of time. Batteries aren't that consistent.
A couple things that bother me:
1. You stick the phone in the freezer because it gets warm. The phone already has thermal protections that keep it from overheating. The CPU can deal with far greater heat than you know (70C isn't even a problem). Anandtech was able to run it through the entire gauntlet of its tests (which are much harder on the device than just installing apps) without it ever triggering thermal protection. Most thermal protections exist solely for the battery's sake, which in itself can deal with 50C while charging, or even higher when not.
2. In almost all cases, it is better to let the CPU drive itself as fast and as hard as possible in order to finish tasks. Let it turn on all the cores and such. Because once it's done, it can go back into deep sleep, where everything is off. This is why almost all phones, not just HTC ones, are designed to do just that.
I agree with Felnarion's sentiment. Juice Defender is probably wasting more power just measuring your battery usage than it is helping you save.

You could do the same thing and get different results, but in reality strong trends in usage are reflected in battery life.
As for this the CPU discussion, all that I said was that I'd like to look at more in depth studies or core process handling. So it bothers me too.
In regards to JD, it won't be making it into the next revision of the thread, as I have noticed unnecessary draw. Honestly android implemented most of the vital operations into the OS, so it is mostly useless coupled with the other tips and just general awareness.
Finally, the xda app is acting up, sorry for the clutter.

Thanks for the write up. I went from being a little unimpressed by battery life to blown away. Biggest saver from stock is dropping all the SYNC stuff. Totally unnecessary IMO. If you aren't consuming the news and updates (you know actually in the app), you probably don't need it refreshing. Still baffles me this is the from-the-factory type setup.
Phone used to eat 5-10% of my charge per hour with light use and barely make it through my "day" (~15hr away from charger). Now, after 6hrs. since it's been off the charger, I'm still at 91%.
Kill LTE and go to CDMA only if you don't have it in your area either, or it's still rolling out. Seemed to help too.
EDIT: And I should note my scores are with never letting the Data Connection completely sleep, so I can still get emails as they come in which I find important.

Solid tips man. Will update the OP. I always forget to change my mobile data to CDMA only. Also, I had three accounts signed into gtalk, which was unnecessary.

While I actually agree with what you say I do feel a bit different. I base mine on previous usage.
My days really fall into one of three areas. When you get old like me you will see your days are all about the same. :crying: My heavy use is going to be someone else light day.
For me I can judge based on different phones, kernels and roms. The 4g days I needed to have a charger at my desk. There was no way I could get through a whole day regardless of how many calls I made.

Been a fan of this phone for a while. I am currently on a BB Q10 (which I like a lot), and I just feel like going back to Android. I love the fact that this phone comes stock with AOSP, but I will definitely root and optimize. I have owned Motorola, Samsung, and HTC. I love the quality that Motorola provides, and I really like this phone. I feel as though it is optimized for AOSP. I was leaning towards the HTC One M9, but the whole S-Off issue is pushing me away.
The only thing I am worried about is battery life. People who own this phone, could you comment on your experience with performance and battery life? What would you like changed about this phone?

I personally have no issues with battery. I run rooted CM 12.1 with clean master only. My day usually goes from 8am wake up to 12am sleep. I usually find myself at 60-70% by noon with moderate to high usage. Before I go to sleep, I'm usually 40-50%. I bike to and from work and track that so my location settings are on high accuracy (most draining one). I'm a person who doesn't mind charging my phone every day along with my moto 360. Other flagship phones of comparable calibre might statistically have a higher battery life because of a higher mah, but I feel I end up saving a lot of battery life with the active display feature for checking notifications.
In addition, the apps that I typically use have high battery consumption rate like hearthstone (especially) and browsing a lot of gifs and vids using Reddit Now. In terms of performance, I get lightning fast animations and load speeds in CM (and I'm sure in stock as well). I average 52% RAM usage by allowing a few key apps like fb, fb Msgr, sleep for android, android wear, and mightytext autostart and run in background on my ignore list. If you have anything specific to ask, go ahead since I've used this phone 3 months on stock (bootloader locked and unrooted) as well.
Edit: I should also mention I am XT1095 pure edition. Also, I took the advice of someone and started using system profiles so that when I'm on WiFi at work, home, or place that I frequently visit, I have data connection automatically shut off. I've noticed a significant difference.

I use systems profiles to save battery by having my phone automatically turn off the data connection when I am connected to a list of chosen WiFi spots. Doing this actually improves the battery a ton because normally your phone tries to maintain a radio connection even if you're on WiFi. This causes unnecessary drain on battery, especially if you're in an area with bad coverage. You don't actually need the radio connection to receive texts and calls, only MMS which most people send via fb or whatsapp/etc nowadays.
Back to systems profiles, I have 1 profile I call 'default'. My settings for default are simple. Whenever my phone disconnects from a list of chosen WiFi connections, my data connection is turned on. Its quite simple to set up. There's an option clearly labelled WiFi where you choose from a list of WiFi spots your phone has connected to. Once you've chosen the list, you set the option 'trigger upon disconnect'. Then, I have a second profile with the same WiFi spots chosen, but with two differences: triggers upon connection to chosen WiFi spots; and results in disconnection of data connection.
It makes a pretty big difference because I work in an office area where the reception is not always good so my battery sometimes drains like 20-30% unnecessarily trying to reestablish data connection (this happens with all phones). If you usually aren't in areas with bad reception, this trick still helps if you're on LTE connections. I think there's a certain bug with LTE connections and Google play services for lollipop in general where maintaining an LTE connection is quite draining on battery. I myself mainly use 3G cause I find it fast enough. However, everything above is only relevant if you are frequently connected to WiFi. Hope this answered some questions

I used to use both clean master and battery doctor. Now I only use clean master. When using clean master, make sure you give it root access and add all non essential apps to the 'block auto start' list. As well, close processes occasionally using either the clean master boost or the multi task window. Clean master is also really good for finding useless stuff that takes up memory for you to delete.
