When I connect my Touch Diamond to my laptop, my wifi internet connection (on the laptop) dies. What can I do to disable this behaviour?
Have a look at the properties of your Laptop's WLAN-Adapter:
-> Device-Manager -> Network adapters -> right mouseclick -> Properties -> Advanced
Here you find some Hardware specific properties. Look for sth. like "Adapter deactivated with cable". This must be disabled (under "Value").
This should do the trick ...

Having a problem with my Tilt. I've checked the box on the PC side of activesync to allow the device to use its wireless connection while connected, but, the Tilt still refuses to use it. Can't connect to the internet, when connected to USB.
Any help is appreciated.
I had this problem as well. There is a setting on the PC side of ActiveSync to enable/disable this.
Go to File-->Connection Settings. Enable the check box for "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop"
I have the same problem, both when connected to my home PC, and my work PC. And like the OP, I have checked the box in AS to allow wireless connectiosn on the device.
I thought that that was to allow MMS etc to continue working whilst sync'd as you have passthrough working anyway (ie you can connect to the web via activesync)?
And its not referring to wifi, but cellular wireless.
I have the same problem on a Vodafone branded V1615 - I have "allow wireless connections.." checked in the Activesync settings on the PC, but the phone is unable to connect to the internet either via the USB or by opening a GPRS/3G connection - in fact it flatly refuses to do the latter, and just tells me to check my settings.
I don't honestly know whether I should be able to connect to the internet via the USB or not - I don't know if my work network has blocked that in some way - but I don't see why, in the absence of a working internet connection via Activesync, it doesn't just open up a GPRS/3G connection. Anyone?
Any answers on this? It's driving me nutz!
basically what the title says... my data connection is disabled when usb connected... is there a fix for this? why does it do that?
Open the connection setup of ActiveSync on your desktop, then tick "allow wireless connection when connected to PC" (rough translation from German).
My T-Mobile MDA Compact IV has suddenly developed a problem in that it won't connect (automatically or otherwise) to my PC or laptop. Until today it would give me the option of connecting as a 'Disk Drive' or 'Active Sync'
It simply just starts charging on my desktop but on the laptop the window pops up asking if I want to play media files, etc etc etc.
Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be and what I might be able to do to rectify it.
Thanks in advance for any help
go to settings > connections > usb to pc and set connection for active sync. if you rather check "ask before connecting", the device will pop up a choice of connection types everytime you plug it to the usb plug...

You sir, are a flippin' star
The AS and "ask" check boxes were .....errrrrr....... unchecked.
After I unplug the cable, Wireless LAN comes back.
I think it's Active Sync which deactive WIFI when it's connected to PC threw USB.
I agree. Then the next question is how to disable Auto Active Sync?
Try to go to Settings connexions (or option like that) in ActiveSync on your PC, then uncheck Open ActiveSync when device is plugged.
Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
Uncheck Enable advanced network functionality

Settings > Wireless & networks > Hotspot > More > USB tethering
Connect to USB PC first to see that option
Or Dev options > USB Configuration > RNDIS (USB Ethernet)

You have to be connected to USB for the option in Hotspot to show, mine does not show when it is not connected
And no, you are sharing your mobile data so no need for WiFi

No, it just shares mobile data via USB or WiFi depending which hotspot you create
You just need a USB WiFi adapter for the PC

looks like it's doable, but not for newer phones....ill try the S7 and see if it works.

Might work on the P30 if you disable Mobile data and only have WiFi connected, then tether via USB
