I ran into a slightly odd issue with my X1: I bought a belt carrying case that has a small magnet on the front to keep the flap closed. Well, it seems like bringing the X1 near this magnet causes the screen orientation to change to landscape and back. This wouldn't be a big deal, except that it does this even if the phone is in sleep mode. The result: I put the phone to sleep, put it in the case, the phone comes out of sleep, and the screen rotates. Worse yet, I get a phone call, am taking the phone out of the case, and the screen rotates again.
I did enable the setting that should allow only the power button to wake the phone from sleep, but it's not helping. Any ideas?
I know from some Nokia devices that the slider wakeup is caused by a small magnet. Without it the screen won't turn on. Figured that out when changing the case of my old N80 ...
So I would guess its the same with the Xperia.
Navigate the registry to HKLM>HARDWARE>DEVICEMAP>KEYBD
Create a DWORD entry call "SlideWakeup" with value 0, then reset your device.
Now, your Xperia stays sleeping

Weird. Why the hell would they use a magnet for that?

Because a reed-contact (the name of the magnetic activated contact) is proximity and so there is no mechanical wearing

I noticed this the other day when putting it into my old Vario II case...rather annoying actually, but at least now, the phone turns itself on when I take it out of the case!

Thanks for the tip, but it resolves the problem only partially. When I get a phone call, the screen wakes up and the screen rotation dance begins... So, is it possible to turn off the slide-out screen rotation completely?
Thanks,CoolRabbitBlue,
Thats saved my X1 from being thrown at the wall. Was really bugging me, that rotate nonsense.
Excellent tip.
I wanna say I thought I heard somewhere that a maget case can render a device with a slider to not work properly or atleast the slider... Is this true?
whatever a magnet case is but ... if teh magnetfield is to strong it surley can disable the slide / rotate feature of the phone.
The maget case is when you have a case that closes with a magnet. I have seen some cheaper slide out phones get ruined with a strong maget case. I currently have one and it too always switches my screen to landscape. I think if its strong enough to do that then its too strong and can cause damage to your x1.
I think Germetic Contact may be used in phone:

This device works only if placed in magnetic field.
Many alarms for doors and windows made with it's device...

This problem seems to be worse using tf3d. I have been unable to answer calls because by the time the rotation dance has finished the call has gone to voicemail.
no slide wakeup does not help because when a call comes on the device has already woken up.
I think my options are:
get a new case without a magnet.
or
find out how to disable the auto rotate on slide open, maybe if I do this I could assign a hotkey for rotation.
or
dump tf3d and go back to spb shell panel - could always answer phone using dedicated button regardless with this, which leads me to think it might be something to do with dialler/phone interface not tf3d?

Actually they now use a "Hall Effect Switch" which does exactly the same function, but without the moving metal contacts. Hall Effect chips are about the size of the head of the match in your picture!
John
I've made an app overnight that let's you use normal rotation when keyboard slideout but don changes orientation when you put in/ out your X1 from magnet case!. So whenever call comes in the screen does NOT rotate when you're taking out your phone from your pocket.
As soon as i'll make cab for it, i'll post link here

Thanks for the Registry command, I've been wondering why my screen aways goes landscape when I take it out of the case. At least now it won't always go to landscape mode, only during calls, I guess.
To combat the problem of not being able to answer my phone, I started answering the phone with the call button instead of the softkey. Hasn't failed on me yet.

I recently started using Kaiser as my primary phone and as I tend to make a lot of calls a day, most of them from car, I ran into problem that the dialers buttons are just too small to be pressed accurately when I can't look at the display properly and/or use stylus (e.g. when driving in car).
Any tips for dialer with bigger buttons (ideally almsot fullscreen) ? I have already tried quite few skins and SPB Contacts and nothing quite met my expectations so far.
Thx

Thx. I know the first one, the second one looks nice (although it doesn't solve my problem). So far it looks like to me that nobody has made bigger dialer
Anybody know if it is even possible to have bigger buttons just with dialer skins? If so then I would probably go and create mine At first I considered writing my own dialer but I don't have time atm... But creating theme should be easy.

Yeah, the second one looks really nice with the WM6 black theme, but the one thing that bothers me about it is that you can't redial the last call by hitting talk on the screen, or hitting send on the phone. You have to click recent calls then click on the call and send.

yeah, not what I was expecting. I was looking for the actual dialer that the iphone uses.
Would also like to get a better dialer.
I would love to get a dialer where the buttons take up the whole screen ... if something should be small it is the number being dialed.
That iPhone dialer looks just as bad as the other skins currently available.
I had been using the JPLDialer VistaII and it worked nice except it doesn't allow last number redial. It looks very similar to the iphone dialer. It was much easier to dial with than with what I am using on Dutty's new rom. I would like a dialer that is full featured, stable and had big manly numbers. I am at work and can't get screen shot. Here is a link I found:
http://rapidshare.com/files/12092377/JPLDialer_VistaII.zip.html
If it has a grass theme it is the one I was using.
Screenshot of the dialer possible?

I recently installed a dialer by Nadavi and dutty it had send/talk soft keys the buttons are spaced well but for some reason it dont work properly since the hard reset.
The button stay the same, like the black default one and the send/talk button dont appear.......
Not sure what went wrong....
I use a different iPhone dialer, written by Nargalzius. I uploaded it to my Box.net public share. Just click the Kaiser link in my signature, its named iPhone Dialer.
-Also-
If you want to increase the sensitivity of the touch screen, I recommend setting the registry key (HKLM\Drivers\TouchPanel\Pressure Threshold) to 5000. It may seem a little high, but the response time is practically instant, and very little pressure required (still enough to avoid accidental presses).
With this dialer, and the sensitivity turned up, I have yet to fat finger/miss a number yet.

Thanks dude, fix the issue, installed Advance Configuration v1.1 and disabled the video dial option and the Nadavi dialer returned.
So, I guess the Nadavi's dialer does not support video dial etc...so it defaults to HTC dialer.
But I'll try the touch pressure setting out as well.
Thanks
Dialer
I just downloaded and installed and the dialer works great!!
I'll second the desire to have a dialer that takes up the whole screen with just the numbers
I don't know about other people, but it still bugs me that psShutXP's "turn off" button doesn't actually turn the phone completely off, but just merely turns screen off.
I then came across another thread where _DrG_ figured out the command line to actually turn your phone completely off
(31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe", "PowerOff")
I had asked DrG if it would be possible to somehow plug this into psShutXP so that the app would actually be capable of doing a complete shutdown of ur phone. He said yes as long as I could get the source code. Well I tried numerous times to contact the makers of psShutXP and ask them for the source code but no luck. I imagine the only way now to achieve this would be to just make a new app from scratch.
I know some people are saying why not just make a .lnk file for the shutdown command and then use that whenever you want to shutdown. Its just that I would like to have everything in 1 nice little working app.
So basically I am starting this thread in an attempt to see if anyone would be willing to use the command line that _DrG_ provided to make a "knock off" of psShutXP that can actually shut your phone completely OFF.
So if anyone would be able to do this that would be awesome! I would be very appreciative and I'm sure a lot of other people would be too.
Thanks
I can put it on my todo list. Might take a week or two...
How much like the original do you want it?
Just the Dialog for shutdown? Or all the other stuff as well?
Ta
Dave
First of all, Thanks for responding!
But yeah, take as long as you need, no rush at all. I mean u don't even have to be doing this so I am grateful!
And yes I would like it to have pretty much everything like psShutXP.
Sleep-like if you were to just push the power button
Turn Off-turn phone completely off like if you held down power button for 5 seconds, which is what this command does (31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe", "PowerOff")
Reset-soft reset phone
Timer-for if u want to schedule a soft reset or turn phone completely off. I dont know if its too demanding, but would it be possible to make the timer so that
1.you can either set it for a countdown of X number of seconds that the user defines
2.have the option to enter a time of day that it will execute the restart/shutdown, which you can choose to happen to be a one time thing or a recurring. And if you choose recurring you will be given the option of making it Daily/Weekly/Monthly
If the whole timer thing is too much I totally understand, beggars cant be choosers, right. So i would be more than happy with just the Sleep/Shutdown/Restart buttons.
Thanks again for attempting to do this. I hope you are able to get it done.
Many thanks!
Kewl.
A Timer maybe for V2 then.
There will have to be some differences, because psShutXP is copyrighted work. I'll try and make a "lightweight Open Source (read only to start) alternative that has support for powering off the Kaiser".

Hey Dave! Here is the artwork! I changed it up a little bit to make it look a little more classy. Its in the form of a Photoshop CS3 file, I hope that is alright.
My idea was to not have the whole silver button be what you would tap, but rather just the actual button on the side. Look at pic 1 for reference.

EDIT:

Aesome man! It works good! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this. I really appreciate it. I'm sure others are going to enjoy it too.
This app can only get better, that is if you decide to make changes, even though I am completely happy with it as is. Although the timer function would be a cool addition to see in the future
Finally a program that will shut your phone "COMPLETELY" off!
Goodbye psShutXP......HELLO XDA SHUTDOWN!
Installed and assigned to one button, seems to work quite well
Sometimes the most simple things are the most usefull
Thanks for you Application, quite nice
Thanks for the support guys.

Hi guys,
I'm actually over at the Elf forum, but I acquired a psShutXP from someone which has the Full Shutdown capability. The only problem is that the Hard Reset and Timer menus are all in Chinese ;-)
Anyways, I'm attaching it for your curiosity.
But I think Dave's app is much sharper and also in English, so it's better LOL
Good work!
EDIT: Regarding your program:
- The "sleep" function sometimes doesn't work if launched from Manila2D's Program tab. It just closes the app but does not put the device into Sleep.
- Also, the sleep function turns off the music in Audio Manager, unlike psShutXP. Probably should look at how they do it in psShutXP.
- Program also takes a few seconds to start up, maybe the graphics need to be scaled down a bit?
Otherwise, good job!
In case you're interested, here's your file along with an XP-style shutdown icon on it (there was no icon in the Alpha).

I don't get this. If the phone is in such a state that you need to access the reset button at the back, then surely you're not going to be able to reset the device using software since you won't be able to get at that software. And if the software's working well enough that you can run a program, then why not just hold down the power button for a few seconds and switch it off and then on again that way?

I manily need to soft reset the phone after installations (like .net CF 3.5) and don't like the idea to remove tha back cover every time (since it will get loose).
When i installed HD Tweak, it installed even HD Soft Reset.
And it works to reset our Diamond2

Why on Earth would you want to install and use an application to do a soft-reset?
Holding down the power button, switching off the phone that way, then touching the power button to turn the phone back on, does the same thing as a soft reset anyway.

Sorry i cant remember, just remember reading it in a thread on here once, which is why i started soft resetting instead of just turning my phone on and off.
May be one of the senior members could clear this up?!

just saving the on/off button's life(you have to press it twice), i have received my diamond since 4 days
and i had already softreset at least 20 times for soft install which requires a reboot and several times for example device.exe, shell.exe crashing or touchflo worries.
so i dont like removing the back too often when i could it do by software. And after all if you have no use of it dont install it ;-)

good find. have you tried it in-call yet? let us know if it works.
I made it so I hope it works! lol
I've been waiting for this! Thank you!
great app, great story
it works just great. this is so cool to see how a good idea is investigated and evolved by the community, then a smart programmer whoops it into an application which is then available worldwide, and in this case even for free (thanks for that!)!
lazy people go here for barcode scanner code.
Hello, this is a great idea!
Is it possible if you could auto-disable the app when the light sensor is already reading no light (so it doesn't go into lock mode straight away once about to ring someone at night) and also, why does the screen stay on? That surely will drain battery life. Can't you make it so that the screen turns off when its dark and back on when not?
Thanks
great app. very much needed
This is a really great app, thanks for making it!
The reason the screen stays on is that the light sensor stops reporting light values when the screen is turned off. Maybe this could be worked-around by modifying the Linux kernel but that would surely complicate things..
Anyway, maybe propose this app for inclusion into the next version of MCR?
note: you need to uninstall the version from this forum if you want to install the market version. looks like someone got himself a brandnew set of keys for the market release
Lol yeah lost the old set!

oh man! lol i'm sorry.. i didn't notice the "please post bugs/comments" part in the original post. haha!
my bad
sorry but i don't understand very well the purpose of this apps
by now (without this apps), when i'm using my hero (calling or receiving a call) the screen turns off and i need to use the left phone button if i need the keyboard.
So what does the apps do exactly ?
Thanks
Its locks the screen when you bring the phone against your ear and unlocks it (goes back to normal phone screen) when you move it away.
Only problem I have is that it always locks it in a semi light room, is there a way to change the sensitivty? otherwise its a great app

I agree with the above, It's a great app, however it seems to get enabled in a room with little light, which is a bit annoying. A calibration option would be good?
Also, what is the extra strain on the batter when it's being used i.e. I'm sure it's fine for short phone calls, but when on longer ones does it drain the battery more than when just making a call?
first, the screen should only get locked in a dark room (lol ) when a call is active. if it is triggered by itself then you are running the app in test mode. you do NOT need to start the app manually, it is started when a call is placed or received.
if you want to deactivate it (i.e. for longer calls) just press back during the call. if the screen is not locked at that moment just cover the light sensor with your finger. pressing back disables the app, and after a few seconds the screen will time out as usual and will then be switched off.

Thanks for the advice....
However the app definitely gets activated when using it in semi-light filled spaces. It's not dark just not too light, a slight tweek to only activate it when it's pitch black would be nice!
The problem is with the hardware not the app, sadly HTC put a rubbish sensor in (but at least they put one in at all!)
This means that the sensor reads 0 even in a semi-bright room. You can try things like pointing the sensor (top left, looks like an LED) towards the light source and making sure you shadow isn't covering the sensor.
Not ideal I know but there isn't anything I can do about it!
I am looking to add g-sensor support and perhaps a few other tweaks but that will be version 2.0, got some bugs to iron out first, and a degree to finish lol!
Is there a way to set the brightness of the screen to 0 when the app is active, and set the brightness back to the original setting when inactive?
On the gsm hero yes, because the app works regardless of the autobacklight settings, however on the CDMA version it only works with autobacklight enabled, something I'm trying to get around.
So it might not happen for a while sorry
This is such an useful and awesome app! Its not perfect, but its still a great use of the light sensor!
Hi.
How does it works?
Is it use magnetic sensor or just proximity?
Is it requires some additional software or is native function?
Is it in market as product made by Huawei or only third-party hardware?
Or maybe it is just bull...t?
Looks real. I saw images where "the swipe" to answer a call where perfectly aligned in the opening of the cover.
Maybe someone else got one already?
Its real. Magnetic function and it is quite easy to use. The only problem is, if the magnets are too strong, the feature is always on and the case is of no real use.
I ended up cutting the magnets out and using the case normally.
I got mine off amazon in germany here. Can't tell about other countries/manufacturers.
Just got mine today in uae.. it's quiet amazing, it uses both proximity sensor & the magnet in the cover , it doesn't need any software at all
I would recommend this Nillkin S-view cover (add manualy www to this link) .nillkin.com/english/proshow.asp?mid=2&sid=0&tid=0&cid=1&scid=13&id=424 2&page=1 This cover work very god on B133SP01 ROM.,
The Nillkin works great
My current cover is a niklin works great, I got another non niklin cover which works also, I originally got the niklin glitter as the first cover but that has no catch on the side so I got the other covers, make sure you get one with a catch.
I cut a hole out for the notification led as I like to see it flashing if I ever get email, messages, chat etc and is one of my most used things. Too bad none come like that.
Also cut the molding around the buttons to make them more assessible like the other case I got.
I'm wondering what are you guys doing about the lockscreen seeing we are using the s-view? as that disables the lockscreen and hence no widgets and camera access unless we open up the case press power off and on again.
Hi,
The cover uses a magnetic sensor and I've the Huawei's one wich works great.
The only problem with this one is that it stays a little opened, so I have to push it to activate the sensor.
When it's closed, before the screen goes in standby mode, you can see the clock and date and if you swipe, you the weather condition is displayed.
Last thing, when you open it, the screen exits from the sleep mode.

You can get one with a magnetic catch on eBay easily and cheaply enough which is what I did after my first one was like that.
The ones without a catch I found will always do that and it's not worth the hassle of it constantly being slightly open all the time.
Where to buy it?
Quick links?

I'f you are on eBay just search for Huawei P7 Smart cover like most of us do.
Hi guys
For those who have s-view cover: at the end of an incoming call I can't see the "red"' phone so I can close the call.Is there a way or setting to make it appear?

I found out by trial and error that by editing ro.config.huawei_lowwindow in build.prop you can adjust the position of the sview window
#The first value moves the clock left and right
#The second moves the statusbar up and down
#The third crops from left and right (also stretches the clock so dont alter this one much, because it doesnt align with the backround afterwards)
#The fourth moves the album cover and the 2 small dashes _ _ on the bottom up and down.
I bought my case on ebay and the window was never aligned, so now after the edit it fits perfect!
Default value was: 573,274,1078,1350
The value that works for my case is: 533,284,1078,1310
Have fun
Probleme after reboot of my P7

Thank you for your solution but
I change the value like you, and after reboot of my P7, default value is back:crying:
Do you know why?
Thank you
You havent change the values at all... When you saved the file, it didnt actually save because you have to mount the partition as rw before you edit the file .

Thank you for your answer
But is the app "mount/system (rw/ro)" enough to mount the partition as rw ?
and what do you mean by remove/del the set_immutable.list: I only copy it, I can't remove or del it.
I use Root Browser
Thank you for your patience
