Hi,
Help please, this is driving me nuts... I am using above program on my phone and had no problems at all since initial installation couple of months ago. Now each time I open the program it crashes and closes after approx 30 secs after opening. I have done the hard reset of phone, deleted/reinstlled R66 files etc. Checked for upgrade to my phone software, the ROM upgrade apparently is not for my phone (i entered my serial no and it said not compatible). It is a UK phone had it approx 4 months.
The file explorer for R66 says I have files 2577, Data, Device, but it keeps creating a file called 3DNavigator, and replicating that file as 3DNavitagor.temp.ini.
I am sure this is the problem, as I deleted these files and got the program to run for more than 30 secs, if you delete these two files I find I lose all the settings in R66 and have to go back and customise the settings again, which I think may be creating this file.
Any thoughts please? I desperately need a fix for this, R66 support a bit stumped as well. I have plenty of storage space as this is the only program I have on the phone other than the preinstalled HTC software.
Thank you
Sorry but can't help with your main query on R66.
However HTC will not allow you to download a ROM if the phone has been supplied with a ROm developed for a particular phone company - you have to rely upon your phone company to eventually provide you with the latest ROM. Try their website instead - I know Orange UK has version 1.93.405 available for download, but i do not know if the other phone companies do.

I've stuggled on with the unreliable ROM that my PDA2K came with because I have been unsuccessful at upgrading using my Mac and Virtual PC 7 (Windows XP).
I don't have access to a PC, and wondered whether anyone could give me any guidance.
Is it possible to upgrade the rom directly from the device itself, or are there ROM installers for other Blue Angel phones that would work via Virtual PC?
Any help very welcome - but please give as much detail as possible if telling me to install or change things manually. I've read posts about 'extended roms' and taking bits from here and there and I've no idea what this is about.
hello fellow mac user
What exactly is the problem?
ANy error messages? are you trying via BT or USB ?
HI,
When I tried to upgrade previously the PDA2K's screen showed USB but I got an error (sorry I cant remember the number code; radio upgrade error or something).
Recently, and I don't know what's changed, I just get Error 101: Connection Failure. When I try to run the upgrade the device does a soft reset at the beginning, then there is a long pause then I get the error. It seemed to manage more previously (may be that was an earlier from upgrade, but it never worked anyway!).
Have you been successful from your Mac?
Just looked back at my old posts on the howard forums, and discovered it was Error 114 I was getting previously (with the first ROM upgrade). I presume I'm getting the 101 connection error now that I'm trying to use the latest ROM upgrade.
One thing I'm about to try myself is to switch off both the windows and Mac OS X firewalls just in case they are interfering with the process.
Just to be more specific:
It comes up with the info from the phone and the upgrade, then I click next to start the upgrade; the device does a soft reset then repeatedly the device says it's connecting to host, the PC says reading info from device; then after a while I get error 101. As soon as the ROM upgrade installer quits, then Activesync reconnects the device (as guest).
Are the ERK files supposed to be run from the device? Will this help me? I've just downloaded one, and downloaded a thing called WinRAR but the resulting files say they aren't Win32 applications; and most of the contents of the folder are .rar files even after I extracted it. Wierd. Please can someone help!
Oh well, it's getting late here in the UK, I will just have to try again another time. Going to have to reinstall everything again now (as I have after every failed attempted at a ROM upgrade over the past few months). This is the last time I buy anything with a Microsoft operating system!!!!
Can anyone help?
Anyone?
Hi
Sorry but I don't think I am going to be much help.
I too am a Mac user with VPC and happily ActiveSync every day using VPC 7.01.
HOWEVER I would never try and use VPC to do something as basic as a ROM upgrade.
I managed to borrow a PC from someone at work and used that for the upgrade. I went on the basis that a ROM upgrade is so basic to the device and would likely need real PC hardware that I would not risk it.
Is there no colleagure, friend or workmate that can help you out?
Regards.
Robin
Hi,
Thanks for replying. I had bought Virtual PC because I just couldn't find any other way of getting a lot of the software onto the iMate. Having made this investment I hoped it would work with the ROM upgrade too.
I did manage to get use of a PC yesterday, but unfortunately it didn't work either. The PDA2K reset itself at the start, then after a delay the updater gave error 101 connection error, exactly the same as with Virtual PC.
Later, I managed to get someone really helpful at i-mate on the live support (and for once it didn't time out) and I went through a few things, including pressing power-reset-record (so that USB is displpayed) and trying from there. It still didn't work, I got Error 114 after the updater sat at 0% for several minutes.
This leads me to the exact reason I didn't want to have to rely on someone elses PC: having access to it for a limited time I tried repeatedly the ROM upgrade yesterday with no success. Later, at home, I got help from iMate and some ideas that will be trying again with a PC, but now I've got to wait for another opportunity to use a PC. What concerns me, is if I ever get a major problem the phone may be unusable until I next get access to a PC. Worse still - if the phone locks up when I'm using the PC and I don't have the time/knowledge to resolve it, I could end up with a non-functioning phone. It's much easier to tinker with these things in the comfort of my own home when time is less of an issue.
I just received my K700i yesterday. I decided enough was enough. I'm going to sell the PDA2K as soon as I've got the ROM sorted out. I really did try to get on with this device but it's caused me more grief than I have ever had with an electronic device before. I learned a lot, setting up GPRS, wifi, bluetooth, found all sorts of useful software, used VNC to control my Mac remotely etc etc, but at the end of the day I just couldn't rely on it. Some days I could get email, some days I couldn't. Some days people would receive the SMS I sent, some days they didn't. Sometimes the people I was calling could hear me, sometimes they couldn't. Sometimes the phone would stay switched off, sometimes it turned itself on and drained the battery. The list of problems I had with this phone were endless. Hence why I was trying to get the ROM upgraded.
I understand your concenr and problem.
I actually have the latest ROM installed on mine and I STILL get someof the problems you describe.
Only Microsoft could get away with writing such a crap operating system to run a phone.
And i-mates issues just compund the Windows issues.
Good luck.
Robin
ive never bothered even trying to run activesync thru vpc. It was a bit hit and miss on my XDA1 so as soon as my xda2i arrived i just bought missing sync from mark space. Hassle free syncing and installing, plus the ppc gets mounted like a mass storage device too.
Trouble is I use Outlook at work and need to sync it to my PDA.
I cannot even use Entourage as we are a) running to old a version of Outlook server and b) Missing Sync will not sync with Entourage.
I am stuffed both ways.
Robin
Me again!
Just thought I'd let everyone know that I did indeed succeed first time on a PC today (having pressed power-reset-record to go into bootloader mode first).
So, as everyone told me, it was necessary to use a PC, and Virtual PC on a Mac just wont work.
I'm getting on ok with my K700i, although the email seems a bit limiting (doesn't seem to have message titles displayed, and a short limit to the length of the email).
My plan: use the K700i for a few weeks and see how I get on, then perhaps I might try the newly upgraded PDA2K for a few weeks, and see which I prefer.
The other complicating factor is that the SIM free Treo 650 has just become available, but I'm going to hold fire on that for now. Perhaps if I'm not happy with either the K700i or the upgraded PDA2K then I might consider it...
Hallo,
I recently bought TomTom navigator 5. apart of the fact that v5 didn't install in WM5 and I had to wait for release 5.2, now I have this big problem: the program gets stuck trying to load the maps.
I tried copying the maps manually to the SD card. if I unplug the SD, tomtom complains that there are no maps and closes. if I plug again the SD, the program gets stuck and I can't do anything else (it freezes the whole device)
any clue?
thanks
you need 5.21 update (wm5 most compliant).
you can download it from tomtom.com
BR
I already have 5.21, it was a typo...
the problem is that it gets stuck when loading maps from the SD card...
it otherwise loads doesn't find the maps, and closes. but the program IS correctly installed...
thanks
m8...its happened to my sometimes on my exec that I had to uninstall via activ sync and reinstall again to correct...make sure you also have an empty folder named tomtom on the root of the sd and another on the root of the poquet pc and be sure that the map you have is correct for tomtom 5 .
BR
I tried, and it doesn't work (sigh sigh)
Also, I tried changing the SD card (you never know) but nothing changed.
all folders are present, though I had to create the one in the SD card.
still freezes *sigh*
also, tomtom help doesn't help at all, and I hate spending money for a non working software
m8...what version windows are you running....wm5 or 2003?
another thing ...I got stuck like that once after already having installed twice on two other xda2s's running the exact latest rom from 02... that time i shortcuted it by not installing any voices insted i put the voices folder on the card and put voices in there....that gave me this problem also.....installed a couple of voices from the disc on to the xda memory and voila its working like a charm.
BR
I'm running wm5, standard (no tuma-ivan-etc)
I'll try as you suggested this evening, I hope to solve it
thanks for your help!!
TomTom is one of the crappiest, buggiest piece of commercial software I've seen in a long time. Once you get it up and running it's usually OK for a month or two, but it generally soils its underwear after a short time and needs a reinstall.
I mean, 5.21, how long as 5 been out? 21 minor revs since then? Do they actually test their software, or just ship it and wait for the users to do it for them? I work in the industry and I am far from impressed with them. Especially given what it costs.
Any how, as I said, periodically you need to completely clean it out. Remove all folders. Delete your map directory on the SD card and copy over the original copy of the map you purchased. Delete all of the program directories it makes. I found as many as 6 or 7 directories on my storage card where it's scatterbrain configuration liked to hide data. Once I had to completely cull it from the registry to get it going, all keys with "navigator" and "tomtom" were suspect. Beware tho, "navigator" might be in there through other applications.
Oh, another thing to check...sometimes it gets sadomasicistic and decides to set a config file or two as read only. One day it's working, the next it fails to remember settings changes. You can fix that one without a reinstall if you can figure out which file it is (generally the map config file).
However, despite all this, sometimes you need to hard-reset to get it going again.
thanks to all, but I think I found a good solution.
I brought back the software to the vendor and changed it with navigator pn. it works perfectly
it's more of a workaround than a solution, but hey - at least I gave my money to a company that deserves it.
thanks destinator!
For some odd reason a few days ago, my ATT Tilt decided it wouldn't operate correctly. The W key verifiably is causing the phone to freeze up requiring the battery to be removed to get the phone to operate again. Once the W key has been pushed, I can get the start menu to open but it takes forever. Nothing else will open within at least 2 minutes time. After waiting 2 minutes I pulled the battery.
The weird thing is that this situation ONLY occurs when I'm typing a text message or email message via the built in messages system. I can use the W key just fine in Internet Explorer.
I haven't done anything to change the phone up recently EXCLUDING a feature change from DataConnect to PDA PERSONAL. But that change is only on the network side, not phone software side.
Unfortunately I cannot call the support hotline at ATT because I'm training at Keesler AFB in preparations for a new deployment and only have my cellphone as a means of phone communications.
Any thoughts on how to rectify the situation would be highly appreciated by this US Serviceman. Thanks!

I'm assuming you're still running the stock AT&T rom, and as such the simplest thing for you to do would be to back up your information, and then hard reset the phone by holding in the two soft keys while resetting the phone using the stylus. This will take your phone back to it's original configuration. Then you can restore your backup information.
I'll try that. Hopefully I can get a backup done over the weekend and do a hard reset. Can't really do it during duty days as I work 14 hours a day in preparation for fun land overseas.
In the mean time, would it be safe to flash the ATT TILT with HTC's latest hardware ROM for the Kaiser? I'd love to have a try with Windows Mobile 6.1 amongst some other reasons such as better RADIO software built-in. If it's safe, know where to get it? I read that I couldn't download it since I have an ATT TILT and am not registered with HTC.
If that isn't possible, any recommendations on a WinMobile 6.1 ROM that's out there with a great RADIO setup, easy to use and acceptable for ATT Tilts?
Thanks!

Rumor has it that the AT&T WM6.1 Rom will be released on the 26th of August. You will need to HardSPL your device before flashing a non-AT&T rom. There are guides to flashing in the kaiser wiki which will step you through anything you need to know about flashing before you do it. If you have trouble finding it, just search "kaiser wiki" and that'll bring it up.
I recently called in a warranty for my tilt due to a broken screen. They shipped a new one, and low and behold it had 6.1. I didn't think I could mess up my phone by installing a theme .cab that was made for a different version of windows, but I did. It rebooted five to six times, and after that it would either stay turned off or on. When it was on, the touch screen was unresponsive, as well as the hardware keys. I called the insurance and they said they might have sent a defective phone [didn't say anything about the .cab file hah], and now I'm back where I started.
I'm scared if I install old .cab files I will have the same situation.
Will the KaiserTweak.exe still work well with WM6.1?
This might be a little far fetch to hope for, but will this theme work for the tilt: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366521
If not, am I able to use old themes for the diamond without being stuck in reboot?
Another problem I've found is I'm unable to edit the windows of my phone folder on my computer. I'm wanting to do some heavy changes, and it's easier to navigate on my computer. The error message I get when I try to copy/paste clock images is that I don't have permission to edit the files. Is there a fix for this?
I ran into the same problem as you at first. I ended up using the HTC Home Customizer to set any changes theme wise and that did the trick. As for the Kaiser Tweak, it does work with 6.1 and I have used it quite a bit to unlock some of the limitations of the Tilt. Another option would be to use the Advanced Configuration Tool, from Julien Schapman. It seems to work pretty good too and works well with 6.1. For the locked file problem, I have not run into it much, you could try and use MyMobiler to remote to your phone so you can use the mouse to move things around. Hopefully that helps.
I found the black theme I was looking for here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364541
I still have the "cannot copy "'HH_HOME_0':Access is denied. Be certain that there is enough free storage memory, that the destination is not write protected, and that the file is not currently in use" As well as unable to edit it from my computer.
It's not in use because I disable the HTC home plug in, so it's not showing up on the today screen.
Same deal, i had 6.1 on the new one, and it took some doing to get hardspl to take on the phone. Also the bloatware just kept coming back no matter what i did. The window on the bloatware reset is like 1 second now w/ 6.1. It loads it so fast.
Hi all,
completely new to the ofrum although i've visited a few threads in the past.
I'm now in need of help so am appealing to the knowledgeable demi-gods on here for help.
I've had a TD since July 2008 (launch day in UK) on vodafone UK.
After having some issues with it being slow/sluggish etc, I did a rom update to 1.93.161.2 WWE (Aug 08).
Now, the vodafone sat nav hasn't worked properly since about May this year (don't use it very often), its always stuck at "acquiring satellites". So after speaking to VF they advise me to flash the newer rom 1.96 (iirc).
But, i've spoken to a few people who recommend going an alternative route, i.e. back to HTC 2.03 rom?
Basically what i want from my TD apart from the usual phone/sms funtions is:
pop3 mail setup (like i have now)
exchange sync'ing (like i have now)
sat nav (like i have now)
Before wiping i need to take my contacts off the phone, copying to the sim isn't an option as there are too many and it trunkates the names.
I've been advised about THIS for taking contacts off (activesync doesn't seem to want to do it).
I've also been told that using HTC rom will render my vodafone satnav (which is free with my tarrif) useless, but that igo8 and tomtom are better. But are they free?
I'd really appreciate a gentle approach to doing this please. I've done a search but there's so many topics on roms etc that i felt it needed a new thread.
I'm actually an I.T. manage by day, so i'm not new to technology.....just flashing mobiles i guess.
Thanks for any help offered. You WILL have a place reserved in paradise.
Before you do anything i suggest you try the htc gps tool, you can use it to erase old gps data maybe you will get a fix then, also try quick gps if you dont have it, it uses gprs/3g to download that latest sat data so its easyer to get a sat lock quicker
Thanks for the reply mancsoulja. My TD does have quickgps installed, but it makes no difference to helping get the satnav working sadly.
I will however try the other app to clear the data and give it another go, thanks.
Will let you know about that.
Actually, what i forgot to mention in my op is that if i get a sms during the day; i click on it, read it, then try and hit 'men > reply' it can take well over a minute to actually respond. The same happens when i want to make a call. I use the TouchFlow to browse to my favourite contacts, but trying to scroll down the list of only 10 contacts it simply does nothing. Then about a minute or so later it catches up with itself and goes all over the place trying to catch up with every key press since.
This was the original reason i had for upgrading the rom.
Its as if waking it up after doing nothing for ages makes it all sluggish (bit like a pc when waking from hibernate i guess) Its very laggy.
Ok, the htc gps tool? Lol i have nooooo idea what i'm supposed to do with that.
Google maps works fine, in that it knows my location and i can plan a route using it, so GPS is working. Its just that vf satnav won't work.
Any ideas on this please?
