To make your BA compatable with Vista download Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update from offsite.Choose the package?depending what OS you running - x86 or x64! And you will be able to sync all your contacts,data,programs...
Windows Mobile Device Center replaced Activesync in Vista.
I had the same problem, with the orginal Windows Mobil Device Manager which you get with vista you can only sync files, but nothing else.
You have to download Mobil Device Manager Beta 3, after installing this one you can make a full sync with your pda.
Greatz MonsyX
i did just that..but as soon as i plug in my BA sync center makes an error nd i get the close or debug window...whatever i do..it remains open nd u can browse and sync pictures but no contacts or installations...nd activesync on my BA wont connect..its always waiting for network!
if u use wm5 on your ba try this setting on your ba: start => settings => connections => usb to pc = and check "enabe advanced network functionaliity"

thanks guys the update worked a treat on my xda2`s with helmi upgrade
its already enabled....i've been tweaking with setting for a month now (i've had vista for 2 months) nd i cant get it to work :S
i think there's some service in vista thats disabled or something..i just cant figure it out...btw...i also have office 2007 (outlook) if that helps...if anyone knows of something else that can sync my contacts with outlook plz tell me.
btw..helmi...u took the data backup prog from ur latest rom..where can i get it from?
Hello, you are sure you have e release version of vista?, because i sync my pda every day with my computer with the things i told here, you can try die delete the device from devicemanager and let the system find it with the new drivers form the mobil device manager beta 3.
After i istall the MDM3 my system find a new deivce and install it.
Somting is wrong with your system.
I use outlook 2002 on vista, it's a little bit buggy ( every startup it want make a new profil), but i have not a newer one.
Greets MonsyX
yeah i have the pre-release final version..build 6000...but it seems that there's something buggy with the installation...i'm gonna reinstall windows nd see wat happens.
thx.
Theres no such thing as a pre-release final version!
You have the final version which was released 30th November 2006 to large companies, and to the general public on the 30th January 2007.
i have the final version...but i got it before nov30....which makes it pre-release...anyways its the same windows....the final build...nd thats not the point of my question!
anyone knows anything abt the backup program that used to come with helmi's rom?

just as a reminder, this tool will not let u restore the backup on different version of wm5.
say you backup on aku3.2, then u upgrade to aku3.5, the restore would not work.
ActiveSync is a better tool to backup contacts, calendar ......

OK i will say to everyone that official presentation of vista and office2007 is after few hours, so comments like i have vista from microsoft legally are just ridiculous, and the ridiculous part is not that someone have it, but that this someone do not know how to connect hes pocketpc to it. Only people that have vista before the official launch are large OEMs and Small group of beta testers which recieved thir copies as reward of beta testing. These are the two legal ways of having vista.
[/offtopic]
I got mine through the Beta program. It wasn't released on 30th November by the way, its original release was 8th November to MSDN subscribers.
/ontopic - I do however have a lot of problems with the Sync Center and my BA. I've not actually got it to sync properly yet on RTM.
Has anyone got any thoughts on the new system? Does the ActiveSync replacement:
1) allow more than one device to be connected?
2) avoid duplicate items?
Cheers!

@Biohead: yeah i forgot about MSDN subscribers you are right, but I am mad about that everyone claims that they have licensed vista and they are not MVP's, MSDN Subscribers, Technical Beta Testers or OEM's, why they are trying to lie, i was in the beta test, i have tested every version provided on connect, and i have not recieved a copy of vista, maybe guys who provided more bugs had copys. whatever i will buy it maybe after SP1 because it really needs a lot of patching. Vista is not what it was promissed to be(look at longhorn demos a way back and you will understand what i mean)
Ontopic:
I have problems with it too, The first time it syncs fine, after that it does not work at all or crash upon connecting. The temporary Fifx for this is remove the WMDC and reinstall it. I think it is not BA specific issue it is all WM device specific one. How we can not have problems with activesync under XP?

i dont know how valid this is right now...since vista is already out...but here's proof that my version is genuine...
i could send u pics of the intallation cds if u want!
anyway...all i needed to know is whether the sync center was buggy or not...nd it seems that i'm not the only one with this problem....btw...a simple solution to this problem would be to install TinyXP on a Vmware workstation nd sync ur BA on that...its a hassle...but it works.
Remember, Sync Center IS STILL IN BETA!!!
Hello,
since a couple of days I try to upgrade my Trinity with a new Rom, but I have no chance. I get this message Erros 260:Connection , so do somebody know how I can flash my Rom under Vista? It would be very nice, thanks a lot!
turn off usb-connection in windows mobile device center, and try again!
if it doesn't work, try "des bootloader", start it and try to flash again.
perhaps you need activesync 4 drivers for your device, i found them somewhere in this board
good luck
thanks a lot, where can I find the active sync drivers, I searched but I found nothing, anybody an idea?
uploaded to my server

thanks a lot my friend
wow, works great good job thanks a lot
i killed vista and installed xp again....
such a bad os.... if i plugin my external hdd, system crashes immediately, that mobile device center doesn't store contacts ( !!!!!!!!! ) , so it killed all my contacts when i flashed my rom....

Vista in my eyes is almost perfect - never had any issue!
- using three external hard drives without any problem
- syncing with my Wizard (of course WMDC doesn't "store" contacts, it just syncs them with an Exchange server or Outlook - and it does it even better than ActiveSync)
- and all other stuff I did previously with XP (except ROM upgrading of my Wizard - but that's not a problem of Vista as there are already upgrade tools, we just don't have them so far cause no operator released any upgrade recently or the gurus here haven't been able to hack it to accept custom ROMs)

Actually there are no "tweaks" to make it do what is is supposed to do - it did it straight away! I have no idea where you have problems - WMDC has exactly the same functionality (and some additions to AS) and same options, just different interface. Just go to "mobile device settings" or whatever it is called (I am using the German version) and set it up to sync whatever you want to sync...
If it doesn't work try to delete the partnership and set up a new one...
I recently switched to a Mac and was wondering if anyone knew the alternative to Microsoft ActiveSync on Mac OS X. I did a brief search and came up with information about Microsoft Entourage [which I do have on my Mac] and was just wondering if anyone has experience with this? If I plug my Tilt right into my Mac, will Entourage pick it up or what?
Thanks in advance, Walt.
For Mac OS X, you need a (non-free) software called Missing Sync.
Or you can use Parallels to run Windows XP and ActiveSync from within Mac OS.

I have an iMac running Leopard and I run Missing Sync. Works great for me. Syncs Address Book, iCal , iPhoto , Tasks, Phone Log, even iTunes (non DRM ) music.
I also have my Tilt sync'd to the Windows XP side of my Mac because the one thing you cannot do through Missing Sync is flash new roms or radios. That can only be done through Windows. But I use Bootcamp , I used to use Parallels but their support for their product is non existent.
I needed help with a setting and emailed them and Nova Development no less than 15 times, never even an acknowledgement. Bootcamp is free runs smoother and has better graphics compatibility.
You will need a Windows machine for updates.
syncmate
syncmate is free and works great for me. Im running leopard on a powerbook.

On my MacBook Pro, Missing Sync.
One note on uploading ROM's. I was able at one time to do it using Parallels but recently one of Dutty's ROMs locked my Tilt in the Tri color screen. It wasn't the ROM, something had change either in a new version of Parallels or OSX. Moving over to an old Toshiba fixed the phone. I've since tested it again and it still fails on Parallels. Just a word to the wise.

Same thing happened with me under parallels. I can still flash radio firmware and splashes using Parallels, but when flashing the entire rom, its like the connection gets interrupted or timed out. I was previously able to do it before so Im positive its either a parallels or OSX issue when it updated.
Dual boot and use WinDoZe to handle the rom flashing, but honestly Missing sync works great for the contacts / address book info / ect.
=D
I tried to reply to your post maybe 3 different times last night through opera on my device but failed...
anyway i'm on the same boat. Have misssing sync but dont use it much.. my main mode of connectivity is on windows running through vmware's fusion... no problems what so ever with flashing roms.. i used to use parallel's but tried out fusion and liked it a lot better! highly recommend it.

Hi guys,
as I read through the threads the upgrade to Win 7, same as the downgrade to Win XP, always requires the new installation of all software application programs that are not bundled with the OS.
i.e. MS Office, FireFox, Navigation software, ......
In June 2009 various news sites confirmed this obstacle.
In the last days I read that there will be (possibly) an upgrade that will not require the user to re-install the application layer programs.
Can anyone confirm or deny this statement.
And if it's confirmed will it be possible for the Shift?
Thnx a lot, guys
If you are upgrading from Vista, it is fine - you can do an in place upgrade and it will bring all your installed programs across.
If you have downgraded to XP, the only way to upgrade whilst preserving all your install programs is to upgrade to Vista first, and the upgrade to Win7 - there is no direct path from XP to Win7.
Regards,
Dave
Yeah, but Vista is still lurking, isn't it?
I'd rather endure installing everything twice (XP and Win7) than have Vista anywhere near my Shift!
In fact I did

Hi Dave,
thnx for your information.
I haven't done any downgrading (XP), not even the SP1 for Vista.
I have only liberated the Shift.
The OS is as shipped from HTC, only application programs installed.
If I do an inplace upgrade, will it get rid of all the Vista stuff that slows down the device? Meaning, will it be as good as a "complete from scratch" installation of Win 7?
Second, which version of Win 7 should I get? Home, Professional, RC?
And where do I get it?
Thnx a lot, cheers

Yesterday I made a full backup image of my Vista installation. Then I upgraded my HTC Shift to Windows 7 Enterprise RTM from MSDN.
The upgrade process took 3 hours, because it had to migrate 300.000 files and settings from one OS to the other. Before the setup I had 15GiB free on the HDD and after that 18GiB where free! So upgrading Vista to Windows 7 won't leave any old memory chunk on the HDD.
I only had to reinstall the Touchscreen Drivers. Everything else was still there: Several network shares, desktop widgets, explorer settings, all the applications with theirs settings, my two Outlook profiles with their on Exchange setups and so on.
Windows 7 itself also responds faster than with Vista. With the same auto-start applications I have more free RAM available and the OS itself looks much better.
So I can only recommend you to upgrade your Vista to Windows 7.
There is no need for a clean install, as long as your current Vista setup isn't anyhow broken.
After this Windows 7 experience I hope that the prejudice against Windows upgrades will be a thing of the past.
edit:
For the Windows 7 upgrade your Vista needs to have SP1 at least. I upgraded a Vista with SP2 and the latest Windows Update patches. The setup has to be started within Vista, otherwise it won't allow an upgrade. And you don't need to burn the Windows 7 DVD. You can mount it in Vista into a virtual drive or you can extract the ISO files to an folder. Before the first reboot the setup copies all the necessary installation files onto the local HDD. So after that the DVD isn't needed anymore.

Well i followed these steps - and when windows 7 boots the touch screen did not work as stated - so i downloaded the drivers from the HTC shift page, installed them. Although they did not error - they also did not work - seems to install properly but still not touch screen.
Also when I put the screen to 1024x600 the device bluescreened as it did in the pre-release versions..
Has anyone got Win 7 working (MSDN Release) and all hardware working; if so please share your steps.
Thanks

MS have stopped distributing the RC now, but they will still provide product keys for it until Oct'09 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/download.aspx).
You can get the full RTM version of Win7 if you have an MSDN or Technet subscription, but otherwise you'll have to search the usual sources for a copy of the RC iso (not promoting warez here!).

Hello,
please try to uninstall the the VistaECDrvV1[1].0.1.10 driver first, then reboot, install it again and reboot again. Afaik I did this to activate the touchscreen driver.
Good luck!
And about 1024x600: That is a known problem. The Intel driver creates a BSOD as soon as you use a resolution higher than 800x480. The current workaround is to disable the Aero effects. With Aero Basic you can switch to higher resolutions without crashing the system.
I hope this will be fixed soon.
