Give up? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi, i have been reading these forums for a while now and they have been a great help in first choosing my phone but also fixing problems with it.
However i think my problems have gone too far now. I have had my diamond for 2 months now and it has been nothing but bad news from day one, for example;
No connection to 3 different pc’s even after advice read on here.
Battery only lasting half a day even with virtually no use.
Randomly switches itself off regularly and will restart with hardly any battery after full charge.
Freezes on a regular basis, whether it requires you to restart the phone or wait a few minutes to work
Often when receiving a call it will not allow you to answer
Have twice had an electric shock from it when on charge
just to name a few probs. Also with a daily reminder of some problem with Manila.
I went back to vodafone and the staff said i might as well try and get a new phone.
Anyone one else on here agree or have any ideas what i should do, shall i try and stick with the diamond?

the only way to make it beter is use a cooked rom
look at my sig...for help
cooked roms walk all over standard roms

I agree that you will probably have more success with a custom ROM, but it appears to me that you don't even have the basic functions working to a satisfactory standard.... before you flash your ROM and invalidate your warranty, insist on having the handset replaced.
Then, when you have one that works properly, you can consider flashing with a custom ROM and enjoying better performance.

I own a raph and the battery at first was awful. Now with a custom rom and some tweaking It'll stay on for 2 to 3 days with basic use. Install diamondtweak and enable all the energy tweaks. You getting schocked by your divice is wrong, and install touchlock pro or s2u2 to stop it from answering calls in your pocket. I have my device sync with mac and windows vista, I suspect you are doing something wrong because I don't hear a lot of complaints about not being able to sync. If your decide to update to a custom ROM you can still flash back to your old one for warranty. If you cant find yours on the forum you can always try to dump it yourself, do install Hard-SPL before you install a custom ROM, 12

Cheers guys, it isnt turning off in my pocket, if i leave it on a table and the screen turns off, rather than being able to turn it back on it has switched off! also i bought the diamond because of xda-devlopers cos i wants to update to a custom rom and have you lot being able to help. unfortunately it has be problematic since the first week but i will talk to vodafone again then hopefully i can get down to adding a custom rom etc..

I don't have any of the problems you have got.
I suggest you take it back and insist Vodafone swop it for ones that works properly. You will not be able to do that if you flash a new ROM onto it because that invalidates warranty.

Kaiser wont return from standby.

Before i begin: I apologise if this is a common issue, I have done a couple of searches but as i dont have access to a computer atm this was done on my kaiser - not very easy. There is therefore a very good chance i have missed the solution if there is one. Please don't flame if this is the case.
Hi, I'm have a constant problem with my kaiser where if i put it into standby it won't come back out. I have made no changes between it waking up successfully and it now not.
I originally had the stock 02-uk rom which never caused me any problems. I then decided to flash to dutty's rom which i'd heard nothing but good things about. this didn't suit me so i reflashed to confused stu's mob vista 1.2 within the day. i decided to stick with this rom. a week later and everytime my phone entered standby it was refusing to come out. the phone could still receive calls but wouldnt show any signs of ringing and wouldnt allow me to answer them. I decided that as i was about to hard reset anyway i'd flash to v1.3 of mob vista. about a week in again and i cant wake the device from standby.
this is beginning to become seriously annoying and time consuming. I'm not sure if its rom related. all i can say is it never happened on the O2 rom but has on both 1.2 and 1.3 of mob vista. I can't comment on dutty's as i didnt have it long enough.
if anyone knows of any existing threads related to this that would be helpful.
Thanks a lot.
Ok i kept searching and found this thread which has the solution.. i think.
Its to do with the USB advanced network funtionality. With it turned on the phone works fine, when its off the phone sticks in standby.
Does anyone know what causes this. I have always had it turned off as my computer doesn't like it and yet i havent had a problem until recently. would it be to do with WM6.1?

Anyone else have to do a daily reboot?

I have to reboot my Tilt daily b/c it becomes uber slow. It takes FOREVER to respond to anything. Some things don't even respond. I have taken off everything that wasn't stock. Even reset the phone back to factory settings. I'm on WM6.1 the ONLY program I have running is Active Sync and I have to have that running for work.
I emailed HTC and they said to upgrade to 6.1 to which I told them I already was and they never responded. Is there an app to reboot my phone every day at a certain time? I'm about to throw this thing in the trash.
This is my 2nd one doing the exact same thing.
Oh wait... Can I volunteer my trash can?? I have never had that problem. But then I don't run stock ROMs.
So, if I upgrade my ROM it could potentially fix the isuue? Got a recommendation on a ROM to run? I'm not to up on that stuff.
First step: Flashing your First Rom (For Noobs) "read read & read again"
With regards to ROM choice it's a personal choice and you will find the ROM you like.
Take a read of the ROM threads.

Sweet, thanks!
I never had this issue, and i'm running the HTC stock ROM.
Well, I finally said screw it and decided to quit being a wuss and install a ROM. I wanted to try the HyperDragon IV, but the download link wouldn't work. So, I did this one http://sakajati.com/blogs/2008/11/hyperdragon-iii-raphael/
Been up and running for about an hour. Just getting my exchange email accounts finished and populating. So far so good. We'll see how long between reboots I can go.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
you should reboot daily anyhow
I have had my TyTN II with stock rom for over a year now and I have never had to reboot without it being my fault, ie. installing something that doesn't agree with my device. Mine runs happily along all the time.
I have SK Tools installed and with it comes FreeupRam, which I run periodically to....well....free up ram...hehehehe.
Often some plugins do not agree with our devices, causing havoc, resets etc. This was my problem at one time. Now I am running Spb Mobile Shell and it is sweet, snappy and I have it customised just the way I like it. I found that phoneAlarm and HTC Home Customiser were the biggest culprits. Since I removed them and started using Spb Mobile Shell, I do not have those problems.
I also recommend that you purchase a programme called SafeMode. You set the time in seconds to boot into safe mode. It displays when the splash screen appears. This has saved me lots of frustration and unnecessary resets.
Here is the URL where you can buy it and it is well worth the US$12.95!!!

Never
i never had this problem, i may restart my kaiser after 10 days or more, i am using Athenos WM6.1 ROM
Nope... My last flashing/hard reset was about 4 months ago, I have ~40 programs installed and don't usually reboot more than once every 1-2 weeks, unless it's because I've installed/uninstalled/changed something that requires me to.
Using original stock 6 ROM, no need to reboot. But i noticed that from time to time Kaiser just turns off, wtf?
Is that because of the ROM i'm using, anyone with similar experience?
phone goes off, no questions asked. I tried to shake sim card holder, suspecting it has something to do with it. Sometimes i have to remove battery for a while, then hold reset with stylus, then to turn it off. Can it be fixed maybe, or will flashing help?
Thanks

Could your power button be sticky, or jammed?
Well, I didn't notice, it just sits on the desk, and goes off, then sometimes i just press power and it turns on, sometimes reset button needs to be pushed and/or battery removed, then just power button and it goes on again. I was suspecting most on sim holder, but testing it with fingers couldn't produce similar error. I'm really considering moving to athenes rom, but must figure out backup system in case i want to go back to stock with current settings and programs.

battery life. new rom?

so my rom is stock; infact, i just got the phone. maybe three cabs. advanced config, mobile matt's theme.. .net 3.5? battery life seems like it's going to be a problem. i haven't even gotten it to say it was fully charged.. always still charging.
is it worth going to the "test" rom that we recently received? will that even improve batter life? i had a wizard for years before, and i must have flipped roms over 40 times.. and it just.. it never quite worked right the same after i started dicking with it. and i'm reading in the thread on that rom that some are going back over service issues.
opnions? any general battery life conservation methods?

Have you left the Fuze to charge for 5+ hours yet? If so and you can't get it to say it's fully charged, you might want to investigate it further before you start flashing, to save yourself the trouble of flashing back the stock SPL and ROM in case you want to send it back for an exchange.
You're right, the battery life sucks. In Advanced Config, under "Power Management," I have all that stuff enabled and it helps a little. I also set my screen brightness down to the lowest I can tolerate instead of using the sensor.
The radio that's in the test ROM is incredible! I first flashed that with the stock ROM and it did wonders for my battery life. As I'm sure you've read by now, GPS sucks too on stock. The radio also helps a lot with GPS, I noticed a huge difference after flashing. I highly recommend NATF's ROMs, his version 4.5 is based off the test ROM and it is incredibly fast and stable. GPS works even better when the radio is coupled with the test ROM, or any ROM based on it. Battery life is so much better now.
Links to the radio thread and NATF's ROMs are in my sig.
hey
thanks so much for your rapid response. you can say i load that radio with my stock rom? i might be interested in doing that, however; my GPS seems to work fine. no difficulties like other people say. i hate to switch to another radio and screw that up.. but you claims wonders about battery life.
i have been closely eyeing a NATF rom. i've been watchin him since he "proudly got a branded fuze" even tho i didn't have this phone till last week.
i did charge it over night last night, and it did go to 100%.. and within two hours, about 8 text messages and changing my text message sound, i'm down to 86% so anything's worth a try.
i'm just so reluctant to flash to a new rom.. i hate all the bloatware, and the different things.. but it seems once you go down that road, it's soft resets every time something goes wrong, at least once a day. and emails tryin to figure out why my MMS only works when the moon is aligned.. i'm doing this same reflash work to a 2005 mustang GT brain and same kinda things.. now the idle isn't stable, if you drive the car, cut it off, then fire it back up it's touchy to drive.. seems like every time i **** with someone, yeah it flies on that one aspect, but it ends up being like a baby, always wiping the ass.
bottom line: what do i need to only flash that radio? Hard spl?

No prob man. First thing is we gotta make sure you have a GSM phone, so hopefully you're with AT&T and have a Fuze. If you're with verison or sprint, flashing is a no go. I really don't know anything about the CDMA versions of the Raph, but the forum for those are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=465
So if you do have a GSM, awesome. If you're worried about bloat, you don't have to anymore with NATF's ROMs. His standard ROM is loaded with great utilities and tools, no bloat and has about 320MB free "Storage Space" in memory. That's huge leaps over the stock with the bloat, and stock without the bloat it still beats it by 100MB! NATF's ROMs are definitely faster than the stock and are very stable. But if you're still reluctant to flash, I don't blame you, I barely got rid of my stock ROM a month ago; I've had the Fuze since it's launch date in Nov.
Yep, HardSPL is the first step. mskip has a great guide with all the required links to get you going, follow steps 1, 2, & 5 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
Lemme know how it works out for you.
New radio rom helps, as does switching to a ROM that doesn't load as much junk in the background. Also, do a soft reset after you run activesync on the phone - there's a lot of stuff that loads during synching that doesn't properly unload afterwards, meaning increased cpu and memory usage and thus battery.
In my opinion, i think you should get Da_G's 6.5 roms. Yes, they're beta but they run amazingly smooth, with very few glitches. and my battery life is AMAZING with them. I can go a whole day and half with a full charge as opposed to less than a day with all the other roms. and that's with constant texting and phone calls and data connection. not to mention his rom is really fast!
natf 4.5 att
i've decided around midnight i shall attempt not to brick my phone whilst flashin the natf rom. is there a link anyone could give me to a description of the rom?

Can't go wrong with his thread, it's in my sig.
Some things to keep in mind:
Don't forget to back up your PIM, I use PPCPimBackup, you can find it at d0ugie's site: http://blownfuze.org/ If you do not have threaded SMS, change that in Advanced Config after you flash, then restore your PIM. Your contacts and calendar should come back right away after the restore, but the messages take a while to rebuild, so don't touch it for at least 15 mins after the reboot.
Sprite Backup from the stock rom isn't included in NATF's, you can find it here at Da_G's rom thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446652&highlight=sprite+backup

Xperia constantly resetting...

Hey all,
I posted a while ago about my phone having died and only having red flashing lights...I managed to solve that- thanks for you help, but now have a completely different problem.
Since then about a week has passed and approximately every 36 hours the phone seems to crash. When I take out the battery and turn it on again it invariably hangs at the Ericsson logo screen. When I then leave it off for a period of time (between 2 and 12 hours) I either find it starts to work again, or that I'll have the red flashing lights and have to leave it for longer.
When it does start working, it always seem to have been hard reset and I have to go through the set up again.
It's possible heating the battery speeds up how long it takes to start working again (although I've tried it with 2 batteries so I'm not sure why that would work) - and I'm not sure if that is actually the case yet or not anyway.
- It's very frustrating to lose all of my contacts daily, but I don't want to give up on £250 worth of kit... any ideas?
Thanks so much

Heh, don't know.
Maybe some other rom's installation messed up something....
hmm... I faced the same problem...
So.. I did have to send it for repair :S ....
maybe i have the same problem... many roms tried, many soft and hard-reset, but the lifetime cycle of the phone before to re-flash the device is at maximum 1-2 days... now i'm trying the tips about quickgps (maybe could be correlated) on the thread in this forum... but the most probably truth i think that could be an internal memory rom damage... if anyone find a soluzion about this problem via software i'm here...
I seem to be having the same problem.
A week ago i tested the latest roms with winmo 6.5.1, after several roms i settled with a rom with build 23081, enabled htc sense, played around abit and went to bed and put the phone to charge. when i woke and touched the screen, the phone immediately froze.
After removing battery it froze again in SE boot screen and after second removal of battery the phone hard reseted it self.
The phone has been freezing and flashing itself ever sense, sometimes the uptime is minutes sometimes over day.
Currently the phone has survived 3 days without a spontaneous flash, the only difference is that i didn't bother to enable htc sense last time it flashed. So i enabled htc sense once again and will see if the phone survives a day.

i had approximatively also the same problem... i'm trying to understand what is the reason of this instable situation... gps location? memory? graphic instance that use HTC sense? is heavy to understand... if anyone could also find the right solution...

I tried the method suggested but no change besides hard reset. And the X1 froze about 12h after that...

ye mine did it again aswell this morning
i just tried hard reseting then install a stock rom then hardreset again and install a custom rom, will let you know if it works
Do you guys often use Opera Mobile?
Ahah!
Very encouraging to see other people had the same difficulties... and I suppose that it's just a question of making sure a fresh ROM flash works properly.
Sadly mine has reached the stage where it's no longer working for 'a day' before crashing... it's just pretty much dead.
Now I can bring up the tricolour screen if I'm plugged in, the ROM then begins to flash off the memory card, but crashes half way through every time.
I have tried this with 2 batteries, one of which (which I have used once and was working fine but only lasted 2 days before breaking) now does nothing whatsoever. The other lets me get half way through the flash every time.
- I can't send it back on the warranty until I reflash it myself (and I don't have a receipt anyway) so I'm going to go find a high street mobile fixing place and see if they can help.
hardresetting then flashing a stock rom (R3A generic) then hardresetting again then installing custom rom and hardresetting, definately fixed my phone, has been working for more than 2 days now it usually stops in less than 1 day.
FYI - high street phone guys managed to reflash the device for £15....it lasted 4 days but has just died again.

[Q] I'm finally asking for help

Ok, A few months ago I got an old(ish) Tilt. It was heavily used and I wanted to install a fresh operating system. I figured if I am going to flash it I might as well instal WM6.5 on it (it had 6). So far so good. I got HardSPL on it, flashed my ****, all good. My phone was working fine. My issue is in the fact that after a few hours though, the phone will slow down or die or something and I will restart it, and then it will not pass the splash screen. At first I figured I bricked it because I tried one to many ROMs and maybe one was bad. I left my phone alone only for a few months later be in a need of a phone so I searched all over these forums, googled my problems, and found out I can actually flash my phone without starting it by pressing the power and camera buttons. I started doing that, going through tens of ROMs but tey all seem to have the same problem. After a certain amount of time they will not boot up again. I unlocked my phone, I even tried cooking my own rom which failed. I am just lost. Why wont any of these ROMs last for more then a few hours?
The phone is am HTC Tilt, HTC Kaiser, It has been unlocked using the KaiserUnlocking utility, has HardSPL, and right now has WM6.1 on it because I needed it to unlock. I am not certain if 6.1 has these same problems as this will be the first time I have installed it. All I am wondering about is why wont these ROMs last after a few resets and a few hours of use. Is there some "anti-piracy" thing built in the kills them? I don't even know. Please if anyone knows anything and can help me out, all I want is a clean, vanilla if you will, phone that doesn't need to be constantly re-flashed. I need a working phone. Preferably WM6.5 but at this point I will settle for anything that isn't too unstable and slow.
