Hard reset. The idea is that if you bypass the password with a hard reset there will be no info on the phone left to pilfer.

um some of those passwords stay I think.. I don't do the password thing on my phone.

Hard reset does wipe the device password indeed, just with every other info on the phone.

It has worked for other people in the past. I think that there are way too many really stupid people in this world not to make a work around for a passworded phone.
I have always said, unless you are carrying your county's nucclear secrets on your phone or cheating on your wife there is no need to password your phone.
Just bury your porn collection deep in an unnamed folder no one will find. Right Chumley?

I've had 2 Hermes stolen - so if it's one of that type just give it back - otherwise, hard reset or take it back to the store.

best "stolen phone" program?

what do you guys recomend for one of those "stolen phone" programs, and tracking your phone if it ever gets stolen?
SPRITE TERMINATOR or WIMP ..... but the programs are only good as long as you don't hard reset the device..... Once the device Hard reset EVERYTHING GONE
Thanks for the tip
There is always possibility to cook program with your settings inside ROM... so hard reset won't help... but cooking with settings - that's not easy.

Now we know that we can cook a program into ROM.. Although i am aware of the fact that there are so many Cooking Guides available here in the forum and that also become a problem for me to choose a best step by step guide for cooking ROM and adding a program into it.... could some one translate this for me....
I use mobile justice. So far haven't had to use it, so I really can't comment on it to much, I did play with it a little and like it.

You must try it Mate... since i myself using Terminator and its quite good.. BTW have you tried to cook any of the software into ROM with required phone numbers ?
On a somewhat related note, generally what happens to stolen PDA/Phones?
The reason for this question was that I was looking at "Ultimate Theft Alert v3" after seeing a link in someone's signature. I thought it sounded like a good idea, but I was aware that a hard reset would kill any protection that the program would offer.
So I was wondering what would happen. If the want the data from the phone they would be hoping it wouldn't lock, because if it does you can't get in to get the data easily. If it does lock and the SIM is still in (or it is taken out and not replaced), I assume there is some way to get round it (like auto-run from an SD card and copy off the data) and it won't have dialled home. Once that is done they can ditch the device....
If they do want the device, they will try and use it and, if it has a lock on it, they will have to hard-reset to get it in. If they had used a similar device before, they might hard-reset anyway.
So this means that most likely the device will not get the chance to dial home given most of these types of software don't auto-cook themselves.
If it is cooked into the ROM it would stand a much better chance of being able to dial home, but if it was not automated I would wonder if it was all worth it. By this time your data is safe (I am assuming you encrypted your SD card and the hard reset will have wiped the device ASSUMING the thief didn't manage to get data off while it was locked) and insurance will no doubt get you a new one.
So.... has anyone managed to use this type of software to retrieve their stolen phone?
GPS
Do any of these programs turn on your GPS and let you know the location of your phone as well as sending out an SMS? I thought I heard there are programs out there that do that.
yeah i heard about a program that would that i dont know if the ones they were talking about above do that thouhg. it was cool u send a text message with a code in it to your phone and your phone kicks you back the location of the phone

The one I referred to (Ultimate Theft Alert) claims it. I don't use it, so I don't know how effective it is.

As i mentioned before, i am using SPRITE TERMINATOR and i do throughly test it. It do send me the GPS coordinates on the given mobile number and i also try the WIPE command from the other mobile phone for Data deltion and that command successfully delete the whole data including the Storage card... But after the deletion it locked the device..... But for GPS the device must be outside otherwise u have to send the command again....

Mobile Justice (downloadable through SourceForge) offers the ability to text message another phone (with the GPS coords or other info) should your SIM be replaced after being stolen or lost. Or you can surreptitiously text message your phone to get the info. There are also a number of paid software options.
Remember - if your phone is hard reset these programs will be gone unless you cook them (and the settings) into your ROM. I've done it with MobileJustice and it's not too tough.
Hi brianmay27
You could try this
I believe that it survives a hard reset too!?

Went through it with WIMP too. Nothing out there (that I know of) survives a hard reset unless it (and your settings) are part of your ROM. Thus, any knowledgeable thief will just hard reset the phone once they have it. Personally I don't believe that many thieves will be that knowledgeable, but it is a danger. FYI.
Since all were virtually the same as far as protection, I went with MobileJustice because it's free. However, a free key to one was offered on here a while ago. I got it and may check that one out when I cook my next ROM. FWIW, this has been discussed many times before. Look here for other options - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365054

Tmobile Wing Security boot code password FORGOT!

Hi, I have a tmobile wing and I set up a security pin code but can't remember it! I keep all my school work on here in word docs, and presentations MY LIFE is in this phone so I can't do a hard reset, its just, out of the question. Anyway I can bypass this code? Via software maybe? I will do anything to make this work!...funny thing is if I go to menu and cancel it actually lets me get a peek at what's behind this enter password screen! Its like throwin it in my face that I can't get past aargghh!! Any help, greatly appreciated.
Have you tried to access it from a PC? If you have connected it before, filled the password and checked to remember it, you could download the files and HR the machine without fear.
Aren't you using a Storage Card? I can't see you having all those school and general files stored on the device itself. If you have them stored on the card, then a hard reset won't effect them in any way.

I'm an idiot yes, I know, I just recently got a 1gb card but just filled it up with music. I'll try what CommZ suggested, thanks for the help.
Damm...didn't work...any other suggestions? How about uploading something to edit the bootloader into an sd card? Is there anything there that may lead to a solution? I mean, if they can unlock the iphone...let's be for real here.

Here's a simple thought, have you tried contacting T-Mobile. Yes i know that virtually they are useless, but if you assert yourself and have a 'Don't-take-no-for-an answer' attitude, you may eventually end up talking to a 'helpful' tech support person, who, if doesn't know the answer - might be able to point you in the right direction?
Just a thought.
i think there's no way to erase that password without erasing all device
maybe injecting some proggy as a nbh file, perhaps, u could reach password
How do you erase the whole device? I have the same problem. Some prick put a password on my phone without me knowing, I guess he thought it would be funny and I can't use it anymore. I dont really have anything valuable on the phone so I dont care about resetting the whole thing. I can't access it from a pc for some reason I get an error message but im sure there's a way to do a hard reset without accessing the phone itself, right?
thanks for any kind of help

Upgraded SX66 To WM6 (Helmi): Device Passcode No Longer Works

I'm hoping somebody here can help, because I'd hate to have to get rid of a device that I really love...
Used Helmi's WM6 (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...angel_WM6_Home) to upgrade from WM2003SE and everything was working beautifully!
I was absolutely LOVING the new software until my device just stopped accepting the passcode that I had been using for 2 years. What I don't understand is I had to use the passcode a few times after the upgrade and all was fine. What could have happened for it to suddenly change by itself (because I know it wasn't me)?
Someone at the PocketPCAddicts forum suggested that I locate an original factory ROM to wipe out everything on the device and try again from scratch. I've searched the web looking for such a beast and can't find one (since the manufacturer/carrier no longer support it).
Can someone here help?

Just so you know, you are in the wrong thread. There's a whole section for WM6 for Blue Angels...
Anyway, what do you mean a passcode? Passcode for what? Reason i am asking is because I too have a SX66 (have had it for 3 years) and I have never seen it asking for a passcode (and I have flashed the bejesus out of it)
EDIT: the guy from PPCAddicts might be partially right, you may need to reflash your device, but you can do it with WM6. I don't think there is any need for you to go back to 2003
(Sorry about posting here. I thought a BA upgrade thread was the proper place. I apologize.)
It's a passcode that you can set to lock entry to your phone's funtions. Kind of like a parental control feature you would put on your cable box. It's just a simple 4-digit code that I set up when I bought the device and I have never had to change it. I will try to do a master reset again when I get home, since I'm back to using my SX56 for the time being.
Thanks very much for your quick reply. I'm so glad there are forums like this out there.

Password trouble

Hi, first of all... I'm not sure anyone can actually help me on this one, but all and any input in the matter is desperatly needed...
Problem is this:
I've password protected my Diamond for, well, the reason one password protects stuff... and now it refuses to let me in!
I do know the password I put in! I'm damn sure of it, but it won't recognize it.
Is there any way I can get into the phone without making a hard reset or otherwise just flushing everything?
Stupid question, hung over, frustrated and just annoyed... but in desperate need of help!
-Pumbz
