After sleuthing through the forum archives I have finally found out why I have not been getting missed call notifications on my phone. The MyFaves collection of programs (I do not know which one) are recording the missed calls in their own log, not the one that the phone uses to give notifications. I am using ultimate launcher and the Myfaves Today-plugin is hidden.
The problem:
When contacts on the "myfaves list" call and get missed, there is ONLY a notification on the myfaves application. If the today plugin for myfaves is disabled you will only be able to see that you've missed a call by looking at your call history.
The suggested solutions:
1) Many have suggested removing "list" from HKLM/security/phones/nolog registry.
What happens to me is that the list file is regenerated every soft-reset!!
2) I have used the deletemy5messagecenter.cab.
The cab, they do nothing. All it did was make my5msgcenter unrecognizable.
3)Flash the wing with any ROM not containing myfaves
Maybe some other time
My own questions:
1) How do I permanently remove 'List'?
2)Is there a way to remove My5App.exe, My5MsgCenter.exe, My5Service.exe from my windows folder? They are always checked as "read only" and "system" files.
Thanks for your help!
Yeah, MyFaves can be managed through my-tmobile.com, and I'd really rather not having the app on my Wing. Many times when I press the Talk button twice (to dial the last person I called) it will dial the last Fave I called... not cool.
I'll prob end up flashing a custom ROM onto my Wing eventually, but if there's an easy way to get rid of MyFaves in the mean time, that would be great.
NS
I found this reg edit in a thread here of people who wanted to use for non-myfave plans.
HKLM > SOFTWARE > HTC > My5 > SMSC > CmdGet > StateRequest
Open value ClientService and change the value from 1 to 0
The above steps work for a while but then the same issue started up even with the myafve app disabled so I tried fooling around with the other settings within the myfave reg sections but they restored to the default setting after a reset & the same problems continued. I finally restored my phone from a back I had & disabled it again. After that everything was in place but I found at the start of my current bill cycle I got a ota that set the myfave display back on my phone. I had to enable it & turn the display off & disable it all over again. So far all my calls are being logged with the custom tones I have in place.
1. Install a custom ROM.
2. Install HTCHome if it's not in the ROM you chose.
3. Setup HTCHome to handle your "top 5".
4. Use tmobile's site or call in to change the top five when you have to.
Now you have your problem fixed and oodles of more free RAM, storage space and a much faster device.
Hmmmm... it does seem like the only way is to install a custom ROM on there. This is because the software is self regenerating. Too bad... I guess the reason I couldn't find an answer is because this problem doesn't exist because everyone has custom roms.

Well... under hklm/services disable the SMSC something or other...
Then under \windows\startup items, rename the my5 item. Powercycle then delete the item. That should disable it from turning itself on. A custom ROM will always be better, though.
If I had two phones, I'd make a video comparison of a stock ROM and a custom ROM...
As far as VGCats go, they do rock, and I haven't gone to his site in a while because I noticed he stopped updating it. What's up with him?
Thanks for the reply my friend. I'll try it out.
Scott from VG cats got busy with his personal life, but he promised regular updates a few weeks ago.
Update:
Okay, So I had already removed the my5 link from my \windows\startup folder. Then I Changed the registry entry at hklm\software\htc\my5\smsc\cmd get\staterequest. I changed value of 1 ==> 0 for "ClientUIOnOff".
After a soft reset The ClientUIOnOff was still set to 0. I no longer had a myfav icon in my today tray.
After calling my phone and initiating a missed call. My phone would still not notify me of a missed call from a fav of mine.
I'm going to try and delete the "list" registry value I mentioned earlier... stay tuned viewers of few.
update to my update:
"list" still returns! oh dear... I'll have to work on this tomorrow. Thanks for everyone's help!
So I went into the registry and went to HKLM > SOFTWARE > HTC > My5. I changed the name of the "My5" folder to "disabled My5" folder. soft-reseted and upon reset I deleted my "list" entry in the registry. Wahlah It worked. A missed call from a myfav was notified by my phone!
Did you remove the SMSC service from the registry? Oh and I forgot, also from the hklm/init
Hello guys,
My Kaiser, a few days ago, started to crash every time I try to see or download my emails...
I can open the Messaging center, see the messages, but once I close it or try to download the messages, it crashes and do not open anymore, unless I soft-reset.
And more, every time I try to download the messages, it simply stops...
This issue start from nowhere... I tried to hard reset, reflash, flash new ROMs but this continues...
Actually I´m using a Dutty´s ROM, the April29th . The Kaiser goes fine, but only the messaging issue does not work.
Everyone has an idea? a clue? What can I do?
This email stuff is very important and I really need it working.
Thanks a lot.
i never had any issues with dutty's hybrid release. check the rom thread and see if there is any discussion on that topic over there
Hello,
I already checked and there´s no issues related.
I personally think that is something about the operator, but I am not sure...
The same problem with any ROM...
Another thing:
When I first close the Messaging Folder, I am unable to restart it again, unles I go to Task manager and finish the tmail.exe.
Only with this, I can can start again the Messaging Center.
And if I start the Send/Receive comand, it simply crash...
I tried everything with no results... I just don´t know what to do anymore.
Has anyone managed to stop SMS from working? Something I've tweaked or installed is preventing me from sending messages - when I tap the SMS option nothing at all happens. I don't seem to be able to receive them either. With all the fiddling (Kaiser Tweak, GPRS Monitor, SBP etc) who knows what I've done. Just hoping someone else may have stumbled over the same problem before I have to reset everything back to original (It's the only fault).
Thanks
Are you able to compose an SMS at all?
Have you verified that your Text Message Service Center number is not blank?
Please provide more information. Phone, ROM, Carrier, etc...
Thanks for the interest,
I'm using WM6 standard ROM 1.82.707.0.WWE (ie not cooked) on the Tytn2, the service centre number is there and is correct according to the carrier (Telstra Australia).
It used to work fine so I'm assuming that I've tweaked something I should have left alone, or one of these installs has jammed it up - just no idea what!
If I pull up a contact and tap the 'Send Text Message' option nothing at all happens, just sits there looking at me! I don't seem to be able to receive texts either.
Installed are the standard apps plus Google Maps, GPRS Monitor, Kaiser Tweak, Resco File Explorer, TomTom, SPB mobile Shell and Diary, QuickMenu.
I know it's a tricky one to fix from a distance (so many settings, so little patience) but any thoughts would be appreciated.
I had the same problem a few months ago and tried everything. Defaulted my tweaks and adv config etc. Eventually I had to reinstall my rom which is a cooked rom and all came back and have not had any problems since then. Hpefully you do not have to do this. You should try a cooked rom.
Ok I want to take a shot at this.....
Ok Does Telstra have the ability to send SMS to mobiles from their website? If so try sending one to yourself.
Next. Go into Messaging, Menu -> New -> SMS. Type in your mobile and Send.
Oh and Uninstall The SPB product Soft Reset and try again.
Let me know If that works.
Can't find a way to send sms from telstra (easily) so tried from another mobile. The other mobile says it can't send the message. I'm (almost) sure this is my phone rejecting it rather than a network of other phone's fault.
When I tap on Messaging in the menu nothing happens - doesn't take me anywhere at all. Same thing if I tap on 'send text message' option in contacts.
Removed the spb stuff, did a soft reset, still no go.
Keep the thoughts coming though. In the end it would probably be easier and quicker just to hard reset now, but it's the challenge of figuring it out that's interesting isn't it? It's going to be one of those dead simple slap your forehead things I reckon.
Thanks for all the help so far.
Have you tried reinstalling the Arcsoft SMS/MMS client? There are many different versions floating around XDA.
OK it's fixed. Here's what I did:
Discovered that the 'Messaging' menu item in the start menu pointed to a file called tmail.exe
Used file explorer to navigate to tmail and ran it directly
Fell over laughing when it actually ran
From that time on it works via any link, such as the start menu and contacts option to SMS
I have no idea what that's all about but I'm really happy to have it back - although I haven't tested sending and receiving texts yet
Interestingly a very similar thing happened to Mortscript - I have a script that rotates the screen and runs TomTom (not mine, found on xda-dev) and it wouldn't work either after all this fiddling until I ran it directly rather than through any links. Now it works fine too.
If anyone knows /why/ it happened I'd be interested.
Thanks for all the support. Really great knowing there's such a community around.
Alrighty then, spoke too soon. Now it works when the sd card is out, but not when it's in. Same old problem, tap on messaging and nothing. With the card out of the slot, messaging appears. What the heck is this?! Could it be something to do with where messages are stored? I'm also getting this storagecard2 problem each time I take the card in and out which is easy enough to fix but could be contributing I suppose. Any more ideas?
Edit: I repaired the storagecard2 directory issue, cleaned up all the references to storagecard2 in the registry (about 4), unticked the option to use the card to store attachments, and it seems to work. I've also re-synched and re-installed spb mobileshell. Last time it seemed to fail at that last step but this time is still working. Even after a final soft reset. I haven't reinstalled spb diary.
Has me stumped but works again now. Sorry to bore you all with this but someone may have a simple answer and the ordeal might help someone else I hope.
Based on all of these issues, I would definitely suggest re-flashing your current ROM again (not just a hard reset), and do a full format of your SD card outside of the phone. It sounds like you've got some major corruption going on...

Yes delete the storage card directory, if it gets corrupt the unit won't send or receive SMS.
Speaking from experience here
Thanks guys,
I've re-done the storage card and all is still working ok. I'm reluctant to reflash while it's working so I'll wait to see how long it keeps up.
Thanks again.
Okay, So, from the other thread, I upgraded to the 2.00.XX rom as listed in my signature form the HTC website, as it was really really out of date. Since then, I am not having some issues with the text messaging, and they are odd.
I will receive a message, so, in the TF3D scree, it will say (1). I will go to it, there will be a message, and I will reply to it. Here is where the problem starts.
Upon opening up the threaded SMS message, the keyboard will appear, then it will disappear. I will have to click on the keyboard multiple times for it to stay. Once it says, I will begin to type, and the T9 will show the word, but the word will not appear in the window. Ever. Only when I tap the "space" bar will I begin to type out words and they will appear. It's very strange.
Also, once completed the SMS message and its sent, I will close the message, and close out of the Messaging program all together. Only to have the (1) appear again. I will go back into the message, and the new message...is mine. The one that I sent. I will have to go into the message, move the scroll wheel up and down to "clear" or "read" the message for the notification to go away.
So, I'm wondering if I should try some of the cooked ROM's, seeing as people are loving those up left and right, to see fi that clears a lot of the problems that I am having (and I'm assuming that the Sprint-packaging/cabs have a lot to do with the phone being slow, and locking up for about 5-10 seconds here and there.)
Any advice or a quick-start guide that someone can provide on how to get the HardSPL that is right for my phone? It's gotten to the point where I am not concerned about losing my data. I just want a phone that works flawlessly. Of course, still having the radio issues that were mentioned in the (somewhat dead) thread about upgrading the radio.
(and mods: if this thread doesn't belong here, it can be moved, I just figured this is a diamond CDMA, so it should go here?)
Thanks!
Try out groove rom, its a great 6.5 rom or hit up ppc geeks and find one you like
I've tried alot of different ROMs on my HTC Touch Diamond (CDMA) and so far my favorite is the newest EnergyROM is my favorite.

..and I'm interested in that one as well, but I can't get it to flash.
it stays at 0%, then coems back with a "communications error".
I've followed the instructions to a T in this thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35839
I don't think it has to do with windows mobile on the PC, because I can flash and re-flash the rom from HTC for this phone over and over again. I'm doing something wrong, and I don't know what.
Wait..found this:

it seemed to take that DiamondUnlocker.exe RUU.
stay tuned.

took the words out of my mouth was going to post this link. lol.
Yep, took the grooveROM like a child to candy. Running that now. Just having the issues with Picture mail. Seems to hang when I launch it (or think I am launching it.)
Lets hope this thread is a lesson and a guideline to those running CDMA phones.
Hi all,
I have the HTC Pure. I got a few text messages at once and my phone slowed waaay down. I deleted the 3 messages that I had, however all but one of them were marked as read.
I called AT&T who in turn called HTC and said that this is a known issue but they have no fix in place and not planned.
So now, my phone always says I have one new text message, and I went and "cleaned" all of my messages; sent, draft, inbox, and deleted.
Does anyone know of a fix or a registry key that I can edit so that I don't have to do a hard reset?
Thanks!
I think it is just a problem from your current ROM .
Like such question , I will suggest you to flash a new ROM or install a new SMS APP.
it is easy to fix the problem after you change ROM
I've been having the same problem, and we are not alone...see thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584623
I know I can cure the problem by re-flasing the ROM, but I was hoping for a less painful solution......plus there is no guarantee the problem won't happen again.
I have had this with emails before. Here is a program which fixed that. I'm not sure if it will work with SMS, but you can try....
Looks like a DB corrupt... The count is in the registry but also in the DB...
If you have a DB browser you can try to find the entry and change it....
Or you may also delete the DB, Windows will recreate a new one for you...

Nope, that's not the solution. And what kind of new SMS APP do you suggest?
Instead, try to hard reset the phone (Settings > System > Clear Storage), but back up the data (phone numbers etc) wih PIM Backup or alike into a microSD storage card.

Thanks for the suggestion. May I ask wha the "DB" is? I am somewhat familiar with the registry and I use Total Commander to edit it if need be.
I think it is in the registry as well; one value I would think. If not, do you think reinstalling the MMS software would work?
there use to be a hot fix for this on htc.com but it was for 6.1
not sure if they still have it up
well i had that problem in the past, it seems i had deleted an unread sms in the "deleted items" folder. After i deleted that one...i didn't have an unread notification...
other than that, i can't think of any solution
Had the same thing. As was suggested do a backup of all your personal data and then hard reset. No ROMS to play with no software to install (except any you already have) clean easy and cheap.

I know this is a problem with WM 6.5 and not Manilla/TouchFlo 3D. I was thinking that maybe if I can find the cab that runs when you do a hard reset if that will reset it and just install the standard stuff on top of what is there already.
On WM 5 it was easy to find that CAB file in the Windows folder but on 6.5 I can't seem to find it...

I Ran FixUnreadCount, and it worked a treat! Did a soft reset and the counter disapeared.
Thanks again!
I met the problem too, and I reset to the default configration, then restore the contact list and reinstall programmes
hello i got the same pb on my sfr 6.5 today on text message :
to supress it i have tries the fixunreadcount then soft reset but no résult
then i have wrote a mail to my mobile phone mail account ; recive it then read it and tadaaa the unread notification on sms have disaper
Fixed too
Hi, I had this problem once before (last year) and ended up having to do a hard reset.
Got problem again the other day and really wanted to avoid another HR so did some digging. This utility worked a treat.
Ran it, counter still said 1 unread message; turned off and re-started, counter unchanged; happened to receive a call almost immediately so let it go to voicemail, checked voicemail and when I'd finished the notification had gone!
From what the previous post mentioned about sending self an e-mail, I guess it had something to do with the notification system receiving a prompt?
Anyway, sorted and v.happy!
