"usb sync" speed problem, please help! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

my rom on my diamond is:1.93.456.2 version
Is there any way to speed up my sync speed? when i bought my device i thought that the sync speed on my diamond is usb 2.0, but now i know that it happens only in "disk drive" mode. i'm disappointed very much.
I have more than 5000contacts and it takes a very long time to sync every time and it drives me crazy.
Is there any solution for this problem anywhere? a new rom or a little program? i hope that someone can solve this problem.
thanks for your help!

Why do you sync all of the contacts everytime? It should only sync those that have changed.
The problem is not in the USB connection it is in Activsync software. That why it is recomended to use USB disk drive mode when transferring larger files

hi, of course i just sync data. So, after a hard reset with the 5000contacts it takes 2-3hours to do sync, after it takes only to sync for 4-8minutes, but its is still too long.
Before i bought diamond i tried a sghi-780 samsung. i loved it very much, it was very fast, but 240*240resolution is a big problem since most of the programs i use are not available in this resolution.
So finaly i bought diamond, soon i realised this speed problem. Because in "disk drive mode" i can't syncronise data.
What i need now is a little program, or a new rom version in which this problem is solved. have you seen anything like this?
thanks for your time, Z.

Nope sorry - as far as i know its Activsync, but an expert may come along in a minute with a solution.
BTW yours does seem very slow - mine takes a minute or so to sync, but then I have a dock that charges it as well, so just leave it there whenever I am next to the laptop anyway.

Sync Install and Uninstall problems

Happy New year to everybody...
Mine has started off bad, I just returned from my X-mas/New year break and I can no longer sync, install or uninstall programs ?
when I connect my PDA to the PC it sees it, but it can't sync, if I go to remove/add programs it shows empty nothing installed.
I can even brows the PDA but I can't copy files to or from it?
I'm lost, can anyone help me out on this I really don't want to do a hard reset.
Thanks.
Anyone.........?
tryed to reinstall active-sync?
did you installed some program has to do with network (kind of ftp-server or something else that uses some ports in you network-config)
i had the problem with filezilla ftp-server, using port 990 for ssl-authentification.
the problem was, active-sync also uses this port, but filezilla starting as service was bound to this, so AS could not work.

Hi Edi, No I haven't installed anything, but I think my problem might be something else (worse), I just realised that I can no longer copy move or delete files from either the PDA or the MC, I get an "access is denied" error.
Anyone have any idea what might have caused this? and better still, is there a fix.
I seem to be repeating myself lately with this answer, so I apologise if it seems down-right obvious, but have you ensured you have the latest version of ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre?
The reason I ask this is because I too was experiencing Sync problems using WMDV, but realised I didn't have the latest version (it doesn't automatically update with Windows Update, WTF?). Windows Mobile 6 is obviously programmed slightly different from revious versions, so updating Sync software is a simple step that's often missed...

Hi Audio,
Thanks for the reply, but I do have the latest version and I never had a problem with it until this week.
Just so i can try and help, what is it you are using Dave? AS or WMDV?

Hi Audio, I use both, AS at work and WMDV at home, both used to work fine.
And do you experience the issue on both?
EDIT: Apparently, there may be a problem with ActiveSync 4.5. Just take a look at this list of complaints about it lol.
One user stated:
"I was using AS4.2 with my ETen M700, everything was fine. I wanted to upgrade to WM6 and teh instructions said I needed to use AS4.5 I installed it and tried to connect my device - disaster! The rapimgr.exe process runs at 99% and slows the computer to a crawl.
After 3 attempts, I uninstalled it, and re-installed AS4.2 (available from www.microsoft.com) and now things are working again. "
This may be worth doing to see if this soilves your problem...

Yes I have tried it on three different machines, I can see the PDA but it won't sync or let me move or copy files.
It look like I might have to do a hard reset, but I'm hoping not
Also, a chap on a premium (you have to pay for support!) site said the following, which seems slightly similar:
"I've been using ActiveSync for a while now to sync outlook up to my motorola q. For some strange reason it's stopped working. The connection takes place, you get the little signal saying that ActiveSync picks up on it, the "Connecting" message, followed by the "Synchronizing" message... and nothing. It just hangs there. I've reinstalled ActiveSync and Outlook and did a hard reset on the phone. I'm convinced the issue is with the desktop, if I take the same PDA home, I'm able to sync up with my PC there. Does anyone know what happens during the Synchronizing phase and what could be possibly causing it to hang? ActiveSync 4.5 is a new beast, solutions to the older versions don't seem to apply.
If I hit the Stop button, ActiveSync hangs on the "Stopping" message and ActiveSync on the phone becomes unresponsive until I unplug the cable."
So even a Hard reset didn't solve this guys problems...
I would recommend uninstalling AS 4.5 from your machine, and installing 4.2. Reason being, i believe you need your phone connected to the computer when you install syncing software, so it more than likely "fiddles" with some very well hidden settings on the device. If this is the case, 4.5 may have [email protected] it up, but 4.2 may be your savior.
If you decide to give it a go, let us know how it goes...

Hi Audio, I don't know what to do, I started another thread about no longer being able to either copy, move, delete, install or uninstall anything, I really don't think it's a sync problem anymore. I will wait another day or so and then I'm going clear storage and start again.
what really pisses me off is my wife has no problems at all? perhaps my PDA is ******.
Exactly the same has just happened to me - I tried to connect to ActiveSync this morning to copy a file across via bluetooth, but it refused to connect. I plugged in the USB cable, nothing - the phone charges but ActiveSync does not want to know.
I deleted the device in AS, tried to add a new one - nothing found.
I last sync'd up fine 4 days ago.
I am using Dutty's DualTouch v1.1 release.
I am using AS 4.5.0 build 5096
If I discover services via BT from the kaiser to the computer it finds the ActiveSync service.
I have done a soft reset, no difference, restarted the PC, same. I haven't applied any Windows Updates or made any changes since it stopped working.
I might try rolling back to AS 4.2
Edit: Same with AS4.2
Think it might be clear storage time
Cleared storage and then it worked fine...will take the opportunity to upgrade to dualtouch v2
Hi Blaze, damn it's annoying isn't it, my next move is clear storage as well.
Hope mine works again.
It's bloody happened again I reflashed the rom with Duty's Dual Touch V2. Much better rom, but activesync has just given up again via BT and usb. Maybe it's some inherent problem with WM, or with Duty's roms - which are you using Dave?
I've tried it on a fresh build of XP Pro on an old machine with nothing than AS & Outlook 2k3 on - same, AS sees the device, but wont sink. Problem seems with the device...

USB Issue.

Hello there,
I've been searching around the internet now for about 3 hours to no avail, I have even resorted to emailing HTC for help. Thats how desperate I am.
I have a MDA Vario III (HTC TYTN 2) that has worked flawlessly for a long time (since christmas) but has suddenly stopped communicating with Activesync.
Im not bothered about syncing contacts etc, all i want to do is use the file browser to download and upload photos etc.
I have tried all the suggestions i have found so far (enabling adanced network functionality, disabling it, reinstalling Activesync etc.) to no working answer.
Can anyone help me?
raty
Not sure if you tried this or not. Delete your existing partnership and then reconnect it. Good luck. Activesync sux.
Hey,
I've deleted the partnerships off my vario3, and completly reinstalled activesync. Still didnt work.
Ive taken the phone into the T-mobile shop i bought it from, they seem a little too keen to send it off for repairs, maybe this is turning into more of a regular thing that i thought?
Kept onto the phone just for now, I wnt to try and fix it before i send it off.
Uh... why send it off if you fix it?
read through this thread and look at post #10 and see if your computer is detecting the device at all..
also try removing your simcard and microSD card and connect your device to your pc in bootloader mode and see if it says USB on the bottom.

It's probably the Notification queues have lost their active sync bits
use Pocket IE or Opera (mobile) to download and install something like MemMaid or SKTools
you can then add the Active Sync components back into the notification queues, and then rebuild them
Once done you should be able to sync etc
notification queues! What is that?
First I ever heard of that. I am having active sync issues as well and I have tried everything in this post.
Nothing works, it connected a few nights ago and it all of a sudden stayed connected all night. I am Back to having problems again.
Does anyone know if avast will hurt active sync?
here is your answer...

read thorugh EVERY LINK and you should be good
ive read through those links and none of them have a fix for me.
The computer recognises my phone, in device manager it comes up under Windows CE USB Devices as HTC USB Sync.
i shall try the bootloader idea and report back.
@Kimtyson- if i fix it i wont be sending it off, that would be obsurd
@pjwilkin- i have never come across that before while reading about the titan, fancy sharing some knowledge?
Just got my phone into bootloader (thanks wiki) and when the usb cable is connected it says USB and the computer starts to install drivers etc.
***bump***
sorry thats not proper foru etiquet but im desperate for som answers
Some further things to try
Can you connect via Activesync using Bluetooth? What about on other PCs and on other USB ports on your PC? What happens if you delete that HTC USB Sync listing in device manager, unplug the phone, reboot the PC and then reinstall Activesync 4.5 (I use the CDROM the phone came with the phone for that)? See if you can get the phone shop to plug it into one of their PCs with Activesync or WMDC.If it's showing up in your PCs device manager then it's likely some sort of problem/configuration issue with your desktop PC it's connecting to - not a problem with the phone itself.
this has happened to me ..
i vote for changing usb ports..
you probly already did so..
please post when you fix it..

im assuming that all activesync services etc load up ?

Activesync randomly disconnects....

I've been putting up with this since I got my Diamond, but now enough is enough
Has anyone experience Activesync disconnecting there device after a random period of time?
The device connecs and syncs - no problems - but after what might be 5mins, or 35mins (randomly does this...), it just disconnects!!
Appears to have nothing to do with charging (could be only partially charged or fully) or actual syncing process. Not a real issue as it still syncs initially and even when disconnects it still charges up from the USB but...this appears to be a flaw with the s/w of diamond or WM6.1 (to me...)
If this is an issue perhaps someone from HTC might read this and note same!
Happens to me too. Not all the time, not often... exactly random, as you said. Quite annoying
I'm sure there can't be just two of us! This happens to me for nearly every connection, the difference is sometimes its in 5min, sometimes 5hrs
BTW, this happens with both my work and home PC......
Surely there are others with this issue???
now i cannot even connect but when i can never it will never doconect except when you turn the screen off
Hi,
I have the same disconnect problem, varies every time.
Looks like I'm not alone... Every 5 mins I need to turn off and on my screen t to reconnect, no matter at home or at office.... you guys are right... ANNOYING

sounds like the device is turning off (not just the screen off)...this will of course disconnect ASync
OK, USB power off is not the issue here as with power manegement off it still disconnects.....
....anyone familiar with asynckiller? Built into SwiftB ROMs and is always running...what does this optimise? Could it be the culprit
Asynckiller the culprit...testing now...
could be getting closer now....I reckon its this Asynckiller built into the ROM
see here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386948
Have shut it down with task manager and see if the sync holds....stay tuned
hey guys i've had the same problem too. the answer to your question is simple: if the screen turns off, the device goes to sleep, the activesync connection is terminated. simple as that. in most cases however, my diamond never goes to sleep mode when in activesync... so if yours does, that's a newer problem
Hi,
I have the same problem with activesync by usb. This is very annoying especially if you have to transfer large files, like maps with TomTom-Home.
It is not the standby-mode which causes the problem. Even without going into standby the connection get loss.
My solution for the problem is to use bluetooth for active sync. I never get disconnected even I stay connected for hours!
I assume it must have to do something with the usb-controller. When I connect my device as mass-storage with my linux computer and transfer much/large files, I can see a lag in transfer after some time. The transfer stops for some seconds and then it goes on again.
Maybe this is the reason why activesync lose the connection
Have ruled out asynckiller....this is not the issue. Brief correspondance with SwiftB and he thinks this issue has been around as long as WM6.1 as been i.e. MS Activsync issue (another one!!) oh so frustrating
I was having this same issue when using a generic cradle I sent off for to sit my HTC Touch Diamond in. I've gone back to the cable that comes in the box with it and suddenly no more disconnections! Are you all using cradles too?
Yep. Have the same problem. Using Vista and 6.1. It wasn't a problem with XP and WM 5, but has appeared with 6.1.
I don't think it is Vista, as it also happens on another machine with XP and 6.1. Also not to do with the power saving, screen sleep or 'phone sleep. I disabled these in turn and the 'phone still disconnects (it does seem to be the 'phone, not the PC - both Vista and XP work fine with two other WM5 devices, although Microsoft is as confusing as ever by saying that AS is no longer required with Vista, whilst selling WM that always requires AS, thus ensuring that AS on the 'phone has to sync with Mobile Connection Centre).
It has got better and worse during the 8 weeks I've had the 'phone - not clear whether this is ROM or application related, as I'm changing so many things at once. Clean ROM install seems to help, but then the problem reappears when all apps are back on the 'phone. Maybe it's not getting a necessary data connection signal from the PC? I'm running it from a Dell M1330 USB2 port.

What happend here? time for a new phone?

Dear All,
I am now reading over the forums for about three days. But still I dont have a solution for my sync problem. The problem is that after I flashed my kaiser it won't connect to activesync. But the STRAINGE think is, that when I put it in bootloader the computer does regonize my kaiser, and I can flash another rom on it.
I also got a MDA touch and when I am connecting that one to my computer, everything workes fine. So the problem is not in the computer. What did i already tried:
- turned off the advance USB settings on the kaiser
- reinstalled my whole WINXP and try to connect
- reflash in VISTA and WINXP
- Put the original ROM back
- check if the repplog is in the Windows file
- Put the firewall off
- Googled on every thinkeble words
So i think that the problem is in te phone, because my touch is normaly connecting. The only thing my kaiser is doing now is when i put in on the computer is recharing.
Does sombody have the knowlegde of getting my kaiser back to sync? It will let me sleep a lot better!
Regards,
Gertjan
usually truing off the option (Enable faster data synchronization) fix the problem...
this is the first time time I read about such problem that was not fixed by all you did...
there are some other things, they may not work, but they're worth of a try:
1. try flashing different radio, not only ROM
2. try changing the USB port on your PC
3. did you try syncing with another PC?
I had a similar problem with one of my PCs, it used to sync with no problems, then it stopped! the other PC i have syncs with no problems
all I did is disable the option (Enable faster data synchronization) in USB to PC in the connections tab
I really hope you'll find a fix soon
Do you use Dashwire? I have to kill the Dashwire process to make sync work... Just wondering?
If I understand your post correctly, you have 2 active sync devices. Are they by any chance named the same? I had that problem with my HP 3955 which is nothing more than a universal remote now but I charge it with my computer and it connects to active sync. Anyways long story short I named my phone Ron_Mobile when I got it which is what my PDA is named and I had active sync problems.
Sorry didnt help

Dashwire? didn't know the existing of this service, so i searched it up. This service is a very good alternative for the time that I dont have activesync to work.
you might want to reflash the rom. i had the same problem after using -G- series 4 for almost 3-5 months, all of a sudden activsync stop working for some odd reason. so i reflashed with the latest -g- rom and now everything works.

I had the same problem. It happened when I flashed one of g-roms on my vista laptop. what I did was uninstalled and then reinstalled wmdc because apparently what had happened is something messed up with the drivers that recognizes my phone. I also hardreset just for good measure. I hope that helps.

Same problem
Yes, I had the same problem as you. Some ROM will do that and some will pass that ActiveSync with no problem. Personally, I had to go back to the ATT original ROM and ActiveSync works again. Strange, but true.
I had the same issue a week ago...it ended up being the usb port on the phone...had to have it replaced. But--since you can still flash via usb, that probably isn't the problem.
I would uninstall active synch or mobile device center reboot and reinstall...then connect the device.
ok I had a strange problem last night with my wife's G1, it made me think of this thread. I solved her problem and I doubt you have the same problem but here goes anyways.
My wife just got a G1. I plugged it into my computer to load some MP3's on it for her since the G1 is supposed to act like a MicroSD card reader. It started charging but no USB connection was detected. It worked on her computer but not mine. After an hour or so I finally figured it out. The USB cable I use for my kaiser has a 3 foot USB extension on it. after using a different cable without an extension it worked. Try another USB cable.
P.S. "load some MP3's on it for her" HAHAHA I just wanted to play with her new toy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Broken?
Thanks for all the reply people, but still no succes Can the damn thing also just be broken??

Toooooo long loading times...

Hey guys,
I bought a HTC Touch Diamond in Dec 2008 and it was more or less fine until a few weeks ago when it just messed everything up. I brought it back to the store and got a new one last Friday. I was busy setting it up the whole weekend (installing Skype, Palringo, Fring, registry editor, .cab-file to get rid of the problem that the keyboard is not changing back to letters (was stuck in numeric mode), Google maps didn't work etc etc.
But now I have a new weird problem. After all the installations, everything worked fine. Then I started to put some pictures via bluetooth on the device, all fine, but out of a sudden, it's so sloooooooow!!! First I thought it's not working at all anymore, but by now I found out that it just takes ages to open programs, e.g. File Explorer, Browser, Settings... or when I receive a sms or email and click on it to open it fully... doesn't matter what I do, except using touch flo, this is working fine. And when the programs are finally running (after no joke about a minute), they are running very fast.
I have a Vodafone branding but am using it with an o2 sim. I never did a rom update or anything.
Does anybody know what that could be and could you help me???
Of course I could just return it again, but it would really suck as I just set it up, put all the contacs on etc (Active Sync isn't working as my pc has vista...), so it would be really great if anybody could help me!!!
Cheers,
mondiera

To save you a lot of time. You do not have to install some kind of ActiveSync on Vista. It is included and called DeviceCenter. Just a new name but with the same functionality as ActiveSync.
Did you soft-reset the device when noticing that it takes to much time to load an application?
Did you disable TouchFlo (eats a lot of RAM) for some time to see what happens?
Hey,
Thanks for answering so quickly... Yes, I did MANY resets, but it doesn't help. I also deleted a lot of files again, but didn't help either, and there's not much on the device anyway (data storage 51.45MB full, 34.37MB free, program storage 64.14MB full, 46.90 free, internal storage just 37.72MB full). And yes, I also enabled touchflo but it didn't help as well. As I said, touchflo is working fine, when the programs are running they are very quick within the application (quicker than my old device was), but UNTIL they are open, it really takes about 40-60 seconds - just not acceptable!
And thanks for the tip with the Vista Device Center, but I just connected the phone via usb, opened this Vista Device Center, clicked on settings, chose usb/bluetooth etc, the device asked whether to connect via Active Sync which I confirmed but now nothing is happening? And Vista Device Center says it's not connected...? This phone is really driving me insane! Seems like I have to return it again because I really can't work with it being sooo sloooooow :-(

I think you should. Maybe you should first try to connect to ActiveSync with your next device and after that start installing.
I'm sorry that I can't help you out.
You hav a faulty memory chip. Get it replaced.

Thanks guys, I think I will... I really can't keep it like that. And if even you don't know a solution, I will get it replaced. Thanks anyway!!
