This is a rather odd problem im having with my tilt, and was wondering if its just me. Whenever my phone gets a signal, if its within 3 feet of ANY speaker, off or on, the speaker goes crazy! Its the same pattern of tones, sort of like a fax machine handshake. I wear my headphones alot, and can tell when I am getting a call even before my screen turns on, and its rather loud. So, now when I wear my headphones, I need to place it about 3 feet away from me, and the headphone cable. Also, the phone dials up about every 10-15 mins, even when sleeping. I can hear this also. Its also not limited to headphones, but any speaker. I had the phone resting on my alarm clock, and the speaker went crazy when my wife called!!!
This sort of magnetic interference is insane, and frankly not tolerable. I have an ATT Tilt and tried a few different radio's in diff ROM's.
Very common. If you take the cell phone near to a CRT computer monitor (not LCD) right before a call / text, the screen will also show you lines.
My all phones did the same. I bought this AT&T Tilt phone running stock WM6.1 and until I flashed a cooked ROM on it, it did NOT give me these sounds through my speakers and I was amused!
The day I flashed it with a cooked ROM (and obviously a new radio / different radio) the sounds came back. This is purely electrical interference. The only solution is to keep your cell phone away from your speakers if you do not want to add additional shielding to your speakers or buy a different / better phone.

Thanks for the info. I have had a few handsets b4, but nothing as big and complex as the tilt (Razor and cheap clamshell) and none of them gave me the problem im dealing with now. Its rather crazy to think that such a small device is putting out so much magnetic interference!
RF exposure anyone? i've noticed that my tilt causes a lot of interference even when at a distance. I'm getting rid of it as soon as I can.
This used to happen to me, then AT&T upgraded the network in my area to 3G. The band that 3G operates on is different than that of the Edge or 2G networks. I could never have my phone within 6 feet of my computer at work due to the loud noise. Now, It charges right next to the speakers all day with no problems. Hope that helps.

I can barely play a podcast or song without it skipping around and sounding terrible. I’ve looked around for possible a2dp fixes, but cant seem to find anything that works. I tried the cab fix floating around, and it seemed to make it worse...
Anyone else having this issue, or know of a fix?
Ill even try a new ROM if need be. I’m current running the latest stock AT&T ROM at the moment.... haven’t tried any homebrew stuff on the tilt yet. I just broke open my old 8125 and installed WM6.1 with the touch flow cube... that was cool!
Don't use bluetooth headsets, but there is a fix for that in kaiserTweak as far as I remember. Besides, I've seen lots of threads about bluetooth issues here. You should search around.

I haven't had an issue streaming internet radio over my S9's, on the old or new ROM. There are some BT tweaks in advanced config though...

You talking bout the advanced config in KaiserTweak? I just unlocked my tilt and installed Dutty's latest and it still does it...
What advanced config are you refering to?
EDIT:: I just noticed there was an advanced config in system settings on Dutty's... playing with the BT settings now... but even the call quality with the S9 is garbage...

Advanced config is a similar program to Kaiser Tweak. It is made by Shapp's. You mentioned that you saw it in your Dutty ROM. Dutty may have baked that Shapp's goodness right in...

I agree. I wear mine to the gym. I stream internet radio over an HSDPA connection on my Tilt to the S9's. I can't stand when I forget to bring my S9's and I have to use a wired headset with an mp3 player. The wires really annoy me.

I had my bitpool set at 20... Max 80... Everything else the same... Heard lower bit pool was better... haven’t tested your settings yet, but i did notice something strange. I paired the headset to my buddies laptop, and the audio worked fine after a few seconds...
Paired it back up with my phone, and as long as I’m not holing it in front of me (the phone), the audio was actually fine. Holding it in front of me, and having it gripped as if i was just holding it to hold it, covering up the majority of the phone, the audio sucked.... I placed it on the table in front of me, and off to the side, and the audio re-establishes a decent quality... really strange....
do the radio versions make a diff on the BT quality for a2dp? Should I try a different radio....?

I am sure you may have already tried this, but turning of WiFi eliminated this problem for me...Very annoying to be sure.

At least its more widespread than i thought.... is it just an A2DP issuie? it didnt seem to do it with a regular BT headset for talking.... and using the s9 for a conversation didnt seem to suffer the same issuie either... just sterio audio...

However, I can see that there might be issues if the phone is directly infront of your head, since the transmitter and the receiver would have your head between them. Doesn't bode well for having the phone in your pocket and using the controls on the headphones does it! I'll see how they fare over the week with normal usage and then see if I'm still pleased!

I found some posts saying to delete the reg keys involving min and max bitpool, and that seemed to help somewhat... and it seem slike after the first bit of skippage, it seems to be fine.... all this and I havent had time to hit the gym to really try it out yet lol... Ill report back when I know more real world testing... on my desk seemed fine...
S9's are just crap. I have a set, and I hate mine, due to the constant interruptions unless there is direct line of sight between the transmitter and the receiver, and the pressure they put on my ears while still being very loose at the same time.

Well, here is the report back! I'm still pleased. Tonight I gave them a real work out streaming audio through WMP since it's the biggest memory hog, surfing the net using Opera Mobile via a WiFi connection, logged into Skype and MSN and occasionally sending/receiving SMS. There was one heck of a lag whilst sliding the keyboard out. i could type SMS, but it took a few seconds for the screen to catch up. Im not dissapointed since all the other apps were running in the background at the time and would have all been reformatting for the switch to landscape mode. However, the S9's were perfect. No jumping, skipping, or lagging at any point, and I could use the headset audio controls without delay no matter what else was being done to the phone.
All in all, a great set of headphones and I reckon will give me 5 days of use based on around 4hours a day of music use. However the Kaiser is only just lasting a day now I'm using approx 5hours of the screen being constantly on, with 3 hours being WiFi use, and 4 being streaming music. Bigger battery time and larger memory card me thinks! (Larger card, cos I want to store more music than a 2GB card will let me!)
Hey guys the problem isn't totally the Tilt's fault. Playing with the Tilt's BT settings will make it a bit better, the real issue is in the S9. The BT radio is not very strong. If you review the S9 manual it will show that the phone has to be put into the "optimized zone' of the body, which is basically above the waist and below the neck and preferably to the left or right side of the body. Yes I know it's BT and it should go 30 feet and does well (not quite 30 feet) as long as the device is not right up next to something, like your body. Also, make sure nothing is covering the back bar of the S9. i can use my hand to cover the bar (where the radio is) and I will get drops immediately. i found this out because the first day I tried to use the S9 I had a jacket with a big thick collar. I would get skips left and right. Once I moved the device to the "optimized location" and made sure the s9 wasn't obstructed then I got good signal.
I think the s9 is great for workouts where you can leave your Tilt sitting on the bench, then you can go without any issue. As long as you don't throw your sweat towel over the Tilt.

That's all I've ever used the S9's for is going to the gym. I usually either have the Tilt in the cupholder of the treadmill, or otherwise I have it on the floor at my feet while I'm using another piece of equipment. Never had any problems with it.

For what it's worth, I own both a pair of S9's and a pair of Motorola HT820's. As much as I love the size and styling of the S9's, they do not hold a candle to the HT820's.
As mentioned in previous posts, I believe that the BT antenna on the S9's is extremely weak, and perhaps they lack a large buffer for streamed audio? What leads me to suspect this is that when using my HT820's, I can go a long distance from my device without skipping or interruption, even having music play on for a few seconds after going outside of what I would reasonably think their range would be.
With my S9's, all I need to do is turn my head the wrong way to have skipping.
If I was buying again, I would never spend money on the S9 headset again. Try as you might, tweaking out out device settings won't really fix your reception.

Not quite the "5min music lag" issue, but seems to be BT problem -
When hooking up the Moto S9 or Sony DR-BT22 headphones, the Diamond seems to have a problem streaming music to them. It stutters often (erratically but on average every few seconds), and depending where I place the phone it loses contact even though it's only parts of my body in the way.
Now, I'm not made of lead, so this shouldn't be an issue. Indeed on the Kaiser - that huge monster of a phone ;-) - it isn't, so what's wrong with the BT on the damn Diamond?
I've tried the 25.05 and 25.18 radios and same effect.
Anyone else having this annoying issue? I had to send the Motos back because they were sh1te unless I held the phone behind my head! (The suplier said the unit wasn't faulty)

ok, so I just noticed something really annoying. I just came back from my daily running and it was the first time I used the diamond with my stereo bluetooth philips headset for this instead of the ipod.
as soon as I started running and the diamond jumped up and down in my pocket the music started stuttering like crazy. like the old days when I had a cd player without shock memory
first I thought this had something to do with sensor lock running, but I uninstalled it and the problem is still there. I now tried to reproduce the stuttering when at home and it seems to be connected to the distance. when I hold the phone close to the bluetooth headset and start shaking the phone like crazy nothing happens. as soon as I move it down to my pockets it begins stuttering when I rapidly move the phone around.
I tried searching the forums but couldnt really find anything stutter related when it comes to motion. I'm not sure if this has something to do with the motion sensor or with my headphones weak bluetooth receiver...
any suggestions are welcome here, I'm a bit baffled by this whole thing.

Sounds more likely to be your headphones. I use Motorola S9 bluetooth headphones and have no issue with the sound jumping, skipping or anything... unless I leave my Diamond in the house and walk down the garden! I'm not sure whether all Diamonds have the same bluetooth hardware. If some incarnations have different hardware, this might be the issue.
Can you 'borrow' a mates' headphones to see if you get the same result?
Perhaps one of the techno wizards here can let us know if there are any differences in the bluetooth hardware between various Diamond devices?

sounds like its a problem with the bluetooth range, if you shake the phone when its near the headset it doesnt make trouble but when its more far away you get problems, so i would think it get out of transmission range.

what bluetooth headset do you have? the weird thing is, if I lay the phone flat on a table I can walk about 10 meters before I get any stuttering. why would shaking the phone reduce that range to about 1 meter?! that doesnt make any sense..
Lay your phone on the table walk around and shake yourself/headset and u will see it comes from ur headset.
Mine is plantronics dunno the specs can look tomorow as there is nothing on the headset.

I have the HD7 from day 1 and as much as I love the damn device; there is one thing I REALLY REALLY [email protected]@King hate about this phone and that is the rat-ta-ta-ta noise that you hear when you have a headset plugged in; like the one when you put the phone near a speaker.
I don't know if it has been mentioned before but I have narrowed it down to the problem and it has to do w/ your data signal. When connected to 3g, the noise isn't present but when it drop to E/G that's when it show up. it get so annoying that I have to hang up, wait until i acquire a 3g signal and then make the phone call again.
I get this whether I'm holding the phone; have the phone on the table or having it my pocket. Emailed HTC but got no response.
if they can fix that, that would be great!

Might Just be your phone, or your headset. Is your headset shielded? I have been using the stock ones that came with the phone, as they are pretty nice and fit well, and I do not have this issue.

i think there's a problem in my i9000;
whenever i make a call, i can hear low static interference in the background.
i searched both on xda and elsewhere, and although some other people complained of this problem, no one was able to determine the cause or provide a solution.
i tried different roms, froyo and gingerbread samsung roms, in addition to cm7, with different kernels and modems, heck i even changed my csc(just for sake of changing everything to make sure.. all for nothing. the problem persists.
Does anyone know what might cause such problem and how it may be solved?
i have exactly the same problem. Like you; i tried every combination which i can. I think main cause of the problem is hardware related. But my opinion is ,it can be fixed with device drivers. I looked at service manual. In the speaker part of the service manual,you can see there are two inductors and one capacitor before the speaker module. You can see the full circuit in Service Manual Page 42.

I think these inductors(L209,L210) are interferencing with the GSM frequencies and making that static sounds on the background.
We need someone who is an expert on linux and device drivers. Maybe he can show us to find a way to break this circuit(temporarily turn off B1 and A2 pins) in a call so it will not make that sounds.
In the other hand we may have defect phones. May be the only way is to change some parts.

I think there's something wrong with the speaker itself.
I'm taking the phone to samsung's maintenance to see what they have to say about it.

Same here, but it's not constant, just happens enough to be noticable, bloody annoying, and only started (or I only noticed it) a couple of days after JVP. Will be interesting to see what you find out...
One possibility, do you have your phone in a magnetic flip case? Worth checking

No magnetic flip case, just a hybrid (plastic back+sillicon frame) cover.
I even took it off for a while to see if it was causing the problem, but no.
I went to samsung service center and they said it will cost about 200$ because the ear piece comes with the touchscreen..
Meaning i would have to pay for a new touchscreen even though i only need the ear piece.. How about that for service.
I checked ebay and found the whole ear piece+speakerphone+headphone jack in one bundle for 15$
so guess what my next step will be??
Buy and install the ebay part, sell my i9000(never liked tw anyway+cm seems a long way from home).. Had enough samsung for one lifetime
are you sure about the sound is coming from the earpiece ? i am asking because few weeks ago i was also assuming that the interference sound is coming from the earpiece . But i realized that it is coming from the rear speaker. Can you test it ?. In a call ,turn back the phone and put speaker hole to your ear. The interference sound is so loud that you can hear it from the earpiece hole.

This is the question which i am also looking for answers
Everyday i am searching for answers. Only a very few people experiencing this problem.
I think this problem is coming from the inductors in the speaker circuit part. You can look my first post .

i have this problem too, i live in Romania, i tough my phone was broken, but a friend's phone also does that.
i notice it when making call while 3G data was running in the background. If 3g is off = no noise.
Also i have noticed, the way you hold the phone affects it. try holding it with 3 fingers to your head the covering the mic hole with the other. you should hear some interference right there. so it's probably: speaker+ extra sensitive mic + some antenna things
Also my friend had the phone for some months now and never noticed it i searched the web and we're not alone, i found this discussion on a couple of other forums, still nothing to do, or nobody reported back after they whet to the warranty service. i would go, but i don't have any warranty on mine.
I'm also from Romania and I noticed this annoying issue today. All my other friend with Galaxy S also have this problem, so I guess it's a normal thing.
The only solution, I guess, is to use 3G networks, at the risk of draining a bit more battery.
so bottom line is that on mine, i hear noise/buzzing/interference when i use 3g networks both on the speaker on the back and the earpiece (it's louder if i use 3g data while i'm making a call) - the issues goes away completely in gms(2 g) mode
and it depend on how i'm holding it - it's louder if i grip the phone in my hand (probably the wireless signal is lower and the phone increases the power needed to communicate to the network thus experiencing buzzing sound from the speakers like radios did back with the first cell phones before receiving a call)
so i guess i'm not the only one, right?
This issue is normal I think. No big deal. If the noise however gets so loud that it interferes with your call, get it changed. But the new ones you get might have the noises too. So what is important here is to keep the noise to the minimum.
With / Without the noise is totally an unknown cause now. At least have it settled to the least noisy.

Bought myself my GT-S5570 (Galaxy Mini) a couple of months ago. This is my first Android experience. At first I was pleased, but then I noticed this static noise whilst in call. It's like, suddenly I can have ill-isch, distorted, "noise spikes" sort of things. Left my phone in for service under warranty. When I had it back, it was still messy. Bought myself a GT-5660 (Galaxy Gio) a week ago, thinking that this one would clear the issue. It's still there, though. I'm wondering if this is something that affects the whole Galaxy series, even the tougher models like S/S2.

yesterday my cousin bought i9000 too. First of all i looked for the noise. It is interesting that that phone is nearly noise free. If i gave 10 point noise to my i9000 than that phone will be 2 points. You can hardly hear the noise. After that i get her SIM card and test my phone with that sim card.Noise is still there.I make that phone software same with my phone. That phone still has no noise.
I think the problem is in phone parts. Maybe a defected series of speakers used in our phones. I will buy a new speaker module on internet. I hope that fix my problem.
For me it depends more of the network I use than the phone. It happens sometime with an iPhone.
as i stated in my previous post in this thread, in my case i was sure it was the loud-speaker, i say "was" because i sold the phone, and thats the reason why i didn't come back to this thread since..
it seems there was something wrong with the loudspeaker(on the back of the phone), and it was, at least to me, one of those things where a person might not really notice unless you're looking for it.. my bad luck had caused me to flash a certain modem and the reception was bad, so once i reverted to the previous modem i was checking for the sound clarity and that was when i first noticed the static during calls..
then i realized it was coming from the speaker, as one good man in this thread suggested. i couldn't handle it though, i could hear it every time i make a call..
it didn't make a difference whether i was on 3g or gsm or both, it was always there, unless i went into airplane mode..
so i ended up selling the phone, and bought another, but before i had bought it i put my sim inside and made sure there was no static, and there isn't, whatsoever.. thank god.
i'm sorry i couldn't find any other solution to the problem, samsung service here had said they would replace the speaker, as the part comes on its own, unlike the case for the phone speaker, which, according to samsung, is bundled with the screen, and if i had wanted to change it i would have had to pay something like 200$ to fix...
those who have this problem, check if its the loudspeaker on the back of the phone is the actual culprit, and if it is, try to find a way to replace it or something, that is if it bothers you this much. or you can just sell the phone, there's a 99% chance those who buy it won't notice anything, because they're not looking for it..
