[email protected] what hapend to the andr0id? Linux? P0rting for our precious, himalaya,
A fat lot of not a lot.
Linux is (partially) already ported to the Himalaya and can be found in the wiki. As for Android, that is another matter. I've been testing as much as I can but the fact of the matter is I am not a programmer. I know it can be physically done because a company has promised a commercial version on the Himalaya and shown it working. Other than that, I have no idea.
I think Ather had been testing it out too.
yep i have been working, tried 11 diff builds but neither of them booted the OS, until i broke my hima's LCD :/
Tnx for the reply?
@jadel, bro thanks for the reply! Oh bwt the linux thing? I hvnt seen it yet maybe i will, make a glimps of the wiki,
@ather thanks,h0pe for any luck, ahm,, s0ry for the LCD of ur himalaya,
@all, ahm, actually right n0w im using,, a build from DFT, AND i think its already p0rted,from B.A. Build 19588,im knda curious, what w0uld hapen, to the near future for our himalaya,

well , i always love that open source type.
do you all think that someday we would upgrade to android OS instead of WM6.1 or WM7 ( someday ) ?
i love the way it's browsing the net... pretty cool

I'm sure it will be possible but not officially.
Some members have used it successfully but only at 25MB expenses. So if you have few memory available you won't be able to try it.
With ARM knowledge and SPL tweaking i believe that it will be possible to write the OS to the DOC chip and have SPL load it directly (now it's being called from RAM)
cheers
First we need for it to be officially released, because drivers for our mobile phones are missing...
Why can't drivers be either made or found elsewhere? It is linux based, and therefore probably already has a driver out there for most of the stuff in it. Or I am sure there are some good driver hackers here that can reverse engineer the windows drivers for all the system calls that are passed onto the hardware.

i have tried with the kernel here http://linuxtogo.org/~lgorris/himalaya/zImage-himalaya and use the android.bin(set INITRD) from http://linuxtogo.org/~lgorris/kaiser-bootkit/android.bin
The touchscreen and buttons didn't work.
hmm i did try from the kaiser too, but i guess it was the old builds..i found from somewhere a collection of intrids too..but didnt pass the boot screen
hi people, its possible to run Android on Himalaya? I thing mayber after long development?

Hi There,
its gone quiet in this Forum for the Shift,
i want to put some life back in it,
if anyone want to do me a favor i'd like to get the Radio Rom of the shift Dumped. If you could do that and upload it i would be glad.
I learned a lot of stuff about the ARM processors the last weeks and now feeling to get an Radio rom to reverse it !
and compare to the Radio stuff from other devices wich are simmilar to the MSM7200 rom from Shift !!
Kind regards
possibly this could tell us where the limit is that it doesnt accept phone calls.
As nobody replied i dumped it myself, if some of the pro's can help me to cook a flashable romm of it i would be glad.
http://rapidshare.com/files/166050083/files_dumped.zip
mem.txt holds the bases and addresses
Kind regards for your help
Yes it's been really quiet at the Shift front. Either project team is still cooking in secret, or they gave up and moved on to other devices. Anyway, If there's anything I can do to help you test just ask. I am really easy with donating time, rather than money.

Hi,
I appreciate your effort here, as I'm no specialist to radio, but I don't understand why you need to cook a rom if you have the radio part? there are totaly independent AFAIK
Okay im new to embeded reversing but as i have ported tapi and so on to shift and phone still doesnt work i assumed that the radio rom is the limiting part. as i looked for the radio rom version in the forum i found polaris / kaiser roms with that version number , and cause they have the same HW i think there is then point to look iinto to get phone working. so i dumped the radio and like to get somethinbg flashable because if i do wrong i need to "repair! flash" it ...
and if i find the interesting parts and could solve them i need to know how to flash them to others to provide my stuff !
in first step it will be for myself as secure as i can get it back to a working version

Hi Folks,
I use a HTC (Touch Viva T2223), I was not sure if this Vogue or Opal. (I have a RAM – 128 MB, Flash Size – 256 MB). Can you please redirect me to the download link of the Android Kernel.
I am not aware on flashing my mobile. Please let me know, how do I do the same. Will the language setting be a problem? I am referring to the keyboard layout.
Also, it would great if you can share information on how do I go back to Windows Mobile, if I had any problem with Android? How will I load Windows on it again?
Thanks in advance for clarifying my queries.
Cheers'
Vijay
Viva = Opal
At the moment, there are now Android builds for Opal. The only thing on these
forums related to Linux is this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462188
I only got my device less than a week ago, but I'm planning on experimenting with this when I can. However, I'm still far from being an expert. So I'm not sure how helpful I'll manage to be.
hmmmm...Thanks for your reply dude!!
Well, dont we have a kernel for our mobile Yet? Doesnt the same build of Touch fits in?

Apparently there are three "Touch"s: "Vogue", "Elf" and "Elfin".
Vogue has a different processor so it's useless. Even though Android can run on it right now.
As for the other two, the difference between them is RAM and ROM sizes. The ELF has less than the min required for running Android so it's a no go.
And nobody managed to get Android to work on Elfin yet (at least as far as I managed to find). Although it's running another Linux build.
Great to know that, the progress is being made..and now we hv a linux on.
Things which amazes me is, HTC touch with lesser RAM, is running Android.!!
Well, Do we have any basic requirements for loading Android OS? I mean, required RAM? Does the email in Android support Microsoft Exchange server?
Heylo Folks.. Any luck on Android for our Opal?
I have one now and guess if its possible.. there is a video that shows it working :S

Android on HTC Touch Viva
Hi guys,
Sorry if any of this was addressed on any other forum (or thread); I looked around for a little while but couldn't find it...
I have a HTC Touch Viva (T2223 - Opal) running WM6.5 after flashing it a couple of months ago. Battery issues appart I'm quite happy with it (sort of, since the only improvement was really the looks on the GUI and now my keyboard is limited to English only). However, this Android thing has been banging on my head and I am looking for a ROM that will make it on my device.
Any clues were I can find it?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
D#1

I think what D#1 is that if Android is available for opal itself right now.
Well to that question the answer is yes and no, yes because it exists and is functional and no because its not complete and has umpteen number of glitches. Ppl have been working on it for sometime now and I think we need to show them some appreciation for their consistency even with no incentive at sight.

Hi, thanks Mr. Zeus... Does that mean I should revert to the original WM 6.1 ROM prior to try to run android on my device?
If so, is there any place I can retrieve the 6.1 original ROM for the touch viva t2223?
Thanks for your time (and patience for my newbie questions)
Regards,

no. there is no need for stock rom. i ran it on 6.5 but it works better & faster on stock rom.
Here is the 6.1 links:http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673631

Once your phone is Hardspl'd , you would have to make a real effort to brick it.
As far as Android goes, all Android for Kaiser is advanced alpha or beta. Again, read..read...read to find what is best for your needs.
So do you recomend to not chose Android, because it is just in beta?
Edit:
What can i do if i dont like Android/WM6,5? How do i find back to my original WM6,1? (With norwegian keyboard)
reflash your old rom.

I started with the tutorial to, and it works completely. if you do it that way.. Its impossible to brick it. Once you installed Hard SPL, it shouldn't be a problem ever, + you have to follow that tutorial once, after that you can just open the exe files, and start flashing fast. Aslong as you are sure that you installed HardSPL, And NOT soft spl. If you want to install a rom, you should read the thread about it carefully. Otherwise you might not have sound, or camera wont work etc.
Okay, but is it a way to get norwegian keyboard on WM6,5 or Android?
Don't know if this will help you:
For norwegian T9:

If missing norwegian language files:

If not.. Just google. I found this by Google to. Google is your friend =]
That was very helpfull! Thanks!
And i wounder, if i install the Android, does the link you gave me, will that be compitable with Android?
_SORRY FOR MY BAAAAAD ENGLISH_ Hope you understand.

I don't know if it is compatible with Android.. I'm not that familiar with Android, I have only tried it once. But in my opinion it isn't a full usable OS
So you dont recommend Android?
Personally Android on the Kaiser is still in the early beta stages, you still can't even boot straight into Android yet,you have to boot WM or Linux and then launch Android manually, plus there are still some basic kaiser functions that are still a little iffy on the Kaiser ports.
If your are a reader and tinkerer then by all means try. But if you are expecting to get a " Hero " or a " myTouch " out of your Kaiser, it is not going to happen and you should just stick with a good 6.5 or an even better 6.1.

Yea right. In my opinion Android is slow on a Kaiser. Because of the slow Processor. Thought it looks nice.. But not fully usable for personally use.
