In Tytn II if you go to ...
Start>Settings>connections>Sms service..
what selection should be done?
it should be GSM or GPRS preferred or GSM preferred?
Actually my problem is that when i check my account balance using the code *123# i do not get response from the service provider.
However if i reboot after
Start > settings>connections> Connection setup>
i get the response for *123# for some time and again the problem appears.
What can cause this....
It depends on your provider. Here SMS over GPRS aren't supported so it's GSM only.
tytn64~
kilrah's right, it depends on who your service provider is....in many cases (i know for unicel and at&t here in the usa) u can call customer service and they will either walk you thru setting it up properly (call form another phone so you can be making the setting changes on your fone) or they can send the settings to your fone (thats the easiest if they can/will)
good luck

It says 'Your current operator (23420) is not supported, you should obtain an update from your device vender.
when i click to select another operator, my country does not appear in the country list...
I am in the UK and have a 3 SIM card, about 2 years old.
Ok well i can send sms and make calls fine...anyone know why it comes up with that error thou
It is trying to setup your MMS and WAP settings but if the provider it detected is not in the list it cant. I think under connection setup in settings you can go to the menu and disable auto configuration. Then you wont get that error anymore.
All it means is you will have to do a search on google and find the WAP settings for your provider and then manually configure them under connections. Thats only if you want to browse the web via your cell provider. If you are just using wifi it wont matter.
For some strange reason my phone thinks I am roaming when i'm not and keeps warning me about additional data charges everytime I check my email. I tried to choose my provider from the dropdown list but there are no Canadian providers listed..... and yes I am in Canada. I don't mind the warning so much but it also won't connect automatically and check my email. How can I fix this?
thanks.
Hi Dongetti
Welcome to XDA-Dev
Your question is fine, but it would be better placed in the regular Kaiser forum as it does not related to Upgrading/Development.
I will move it to the Kaiser Forum with an expiring (6hrs) redirect from the Kaiser upgrading Forum. So by tomorrow you will know where to look for it.
Cheers
Mike
Where in canada do you reside? are you close to a border of some kind?
Roam?
I have that same (problem) with my 8525, after I got the Tilt I added a second line and even though the phones have shared minutes and are billed together the Hermes still thinks it's roaming when the Tilt doesn't.
I called the carrier and she told me it was a fix on their end and that I would have to call back to customer service, it's not the phone or ROM.

I'm running Dutty's WM6 on AT&T Tilt, in Toronto on Rogers, works fine.
Thanks for the replies....
By the way, i'm running Sleuth 1.0 on AT&T tilt and no I don't live anywhere near the US border.
I'm having the same damn problem. In the morning there's a stupid triangle up on my today screen. Is that what you are talking about?
No my problem is this:
go to control panel (start -> settings ).
Then go to the connections page.
Then tap connection setup, it will give you a list of Countries to choose from and and then a list of providers below that. The problem is that my provider is not listed and that makes the phone think i'm roaming when I am not. Even though I enter my connection settings manually it won't connect 'automatically' to check my email. Therefore, I have to go in and send/receive manually to see if I got any new mail and it always warns me that i'm roaming(when i'm not) and checking my email may result in data charges.
That's not your problem, you can always manually configure your connection settings to your carrier's.
The problem is that your phone think's it's roaming based on the wireless signals from the tower...
dongetti, probably you're using fido sim?
if that's the case, then it's not fixable. As you know since Robbers acquired Fido, they have integrated the tower. But for some reason, the code for fido was being left in your sim (they don't change it to Robber's code). No other choice than to use Rogers signal, since that's the only one available now anyway.
Are there roaming charges if it is roaming between rogers and fido? even after the merger?

No there wont be any roaming charges.. for more info on this check the fido section in the howard forums website, also you can check with fido's customer service about this issue
i've been with fido for about 3 years now with an unlocked phone right from the start and every phone i've had has the little roaming symbol at the top, but i've never seen any roaming charges on it yet
I just got about 500 of these phones on a deal for a business venture....
I want to give there phones to employees as there out selling but i want the ability to disable the phone from my employees to make calls. If they can receive i wouldn't mind or if not i can live. Or to put a password on each section of the phone.
Start Menu -> Settings -> Personal -> Phone
Now, in the "services" tab you can set "call barring" settings (allow/disable incoming/outgoing calls).
And in the PIN/PIN2 tab you can set the PIN code so useres won't be able to change the settings unless they have the code.
However, all of this will only work if the mobile service provider supports it. It's better to check with them first.
Service Provider does not support this. Checked into it already thanks for a reply though. After posting this I would probably prefer away to lock most of the feature on the phone or disabling them. I really just what the sellers to be able to use the program im creating for this platform and to receive calls. The big thing i need this phone for is a mobile device with bluetooth that was cheap that i can sell items and have real time updates on my server thru the data network provided by my phone provider.
I own a t-mobile version of the nexus one. I can connect fine to their network with no problem, however i do find myself in a complete t-mobile dead zone sometimes. When im at that location other people with AT&T devices have pretty good service. I noticed that in the Wireless & Network settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators, it does find AT&T on there. However, when trying to connect to it, it gives the following error:
"Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
At that location, i was also with someone who had t-mobile with a Motorola Cliq, who was able to access this AT&T network without a problem (although it was a G connection)
Is there something i can do to access this network with my phone and sim card?
Maybe some sort of sim unlock code i need to get from t-mobile?
same here/..
actually.. im having that problem right now! O.O;
I have full bars yet i can't send txt msgs or call anyone.. and when i try to turn on wifi it says updating wifi then turns off... wtf?
anyone have any ideas?
Are you on a pre-paid account? Sometimes the pre-paid accounts do not support roaming (even though you aren't paying roaming on a contact account).
Also; it depends on the freq of that network. Ummm; if the phone is unlocked or not.
There could be a number of issues. You could try and call T-Mobile and ask them. But it just could be that it's At&t and that specific area might not be roaming enabled.
Just my 2-cents.

Check your logic. I'm sure that roaming would be enable in big NYC. WE are in two different areas also. Plus I am on postpaid. Also the phone is QUAD band, it does not need 3G to roam on AT&T EDGE network...come on now.
I ended up contacting google phone support about this. The tech i spoke to on the line was able to recreate the issue.
When he contacted t-mobile support for us t-mobile said basically if they own the property rights for the area you're in (disregarding your signal strength) you are unable to connect to any other network. If you are outside of a t-mobile coverage area, you are then able to roam.
Hi,
When I boot up tmobile with sim card of india it brings me to android image screen. If I choose menu nothings shows up. As I touch the android image it leads me into gmail setup wizard. When I choose MENU I see wireless settings as only option. I am not sure how I can get the usual settings menu option from home screen what people talk about in all their instructions/blogs/articles.
Regards,
Miten.
You need to finish the registration cycle before you have access to the regular system menus.
I think in unmodified rom, the setting to skips registration/login of gmail is still not implemented, so you must login first and then get into the menu
Go through the gmail setup then everything will work.
MTNL carrier GPRS not working
Hi,
I have call plan from MTNL service provider (Dolphin plan). After putting my sim in since the phone does not let me proceed I am unable to make calls. I thought may be I need to do the gmail registration so I enabled GPRS with MTNL provider. The wireless settings MENU which I get I thought I can get it to set me up but I am unable to get GPRS working. Some APN setting I guess means Access Point Node I tried setting with what information MTNL provided me.
Apparently it is not working so I am unable to activate it.
You can search for "mtnl mumbai dolphin gprs" to get some details of what information MTNL provides for gprs.
You can see GPRS settings and at bottom on the page there are phone specific settings. There is none for HTC / Tmobile G1 so I choose manual common settings and tried to setup APN in G1.
So for now I dont have GPRS working. I don't get Wifi \ WLAN related option else I could have used it.
So I think I will have to use a carrier other than MTNL and activate the phone.
When I activate using a sim card from different carrier then when I try to use different sim card will it be fine ? is the gmail account linked to phone or to sim ?
You guys agree ?
Regards,
Miten.
u can just use any other simcard with data plan supported and then login to gmail. after that u can just change the simcard. As far as i know, the mail is bounded to the phone, not the sim.
I just talked to one of my friend who has Airtel sim card with data plan (GPRS). He said that GPRS was activated on his sim card by sms and he does not know what settings they are. When I use his sim in tmobile G1 (my phone) will it be all set or would I have to configure wireless settings ? I hope it auto detects and configures things else I will have to setup APN and hopefully its straight forward in working.
Regards,
works now
Hi,
I used my friends "idea" service provider card which has data plan. He used it on nexus one. I was able to complete gmail account setup. Now I put my card and then went in to register on network to get calling going. Without registering it would not let me do calls/sms. Yet gprs on my MTNL/dolphin service is not working.
Also the bluetooth H700c Motorola headset is not pairing with G1.
Regards,
t-mobile setup for MTNL
Hi,
MTNL dolphin automated process to activate GPRS/3G does not work for HTC dream/Tmobile G1. So needs to ask the customer care folks to manually instruct the exchange to activate it. Ask for expert / supervisor and talk to him to get it processed else you will not get any where.
Once you have your sim activated for GPRS/3G you are all set. You can use it to boot up android. If you cannot get it activated then arrange for one like I did and then you can move on.
The settings are all standard listed as common settings on their GPRS page. No need to setup server, mms etc. Enter only upto name, apn, proxy host, port, user/password.
So let me state that GPRS works fine with MTNL and HTC G1.
