Do you prefer a clean version of WM6 or with extra applications?
And which applications do you like?
C_shekar - I think you need some investigation which kind of soft user needs.
So let us post our vision of required soft preinstalled in ROM.
as far as I understand we taking about freeware.
My List:
1. Touch flo (if there are any possibility)
2. Dict
3. Alreader light 2\Hali reader
4. Total Commander Mobile
5. TCMP
6. Pdf - viewer
7. WM5-storage
8. Some sort of timer.
9. ICQ application (qip for example)
10. Gsplayer
11. Rar mobile
1. No RAM disk
2. 24MB Pagepool
3. TouchFlo
I think the ROM should stay clean, so the user can decide what apps he wants to add.
I think one can only add the HTC home tab thingie!
Cheers
divocak
no ram disk ??
man are you mad ?
for what reason you need all amount of RAM ?
Are you know that without ram-disk device SLOW DOWN ??
But I`ve agree to save some extra mem by lowering page poll. (I think 16 mb will be ok )
No, just leave the pagepool at 32 as I think it's neccessary to keep the Rom goes fast. No more software should be added I hope 'cause users can add them in later on. Just all the important fixes and patches. And that's all. Anyone want to personalize the ROM can do that by creating an extendedRom in their SD, is it, so just try to keep the version pure (one of the best exapmle is buzz 3.33). But, the ROMs that personalized before by certain developers are appreciated as well.

Oh i dont know that - i think that ram-disk is only for storage. thanx for info.
I agree. The upgrade rom should be a clean one so a person can choose exactly what software they require and will use. We must also remember that we all use our PPC for different reasons so there will never be a rom with software we all want or need.
Clean and Clear
Hello!!! Yes I think the WM6 should be clean version, if someone wants to install apps they can do so. The reason to keep the clean version is to make the device run faster.
Although there should be a clean version but also there should be a choice of software (seprately given). If need be people can install them on their Device.
Kind Regards
Jay
removing the extra applications will not give more storage
it will not give more memory
it will just mean that the rom part of ones flash is left more empty
some softwares are necessary...
because not all of Himalaya users are goood at play the phone, they need it quick and all-in-one.
may be we can cook 2 ROMs,one clean version of WM6 and one with extra applications

But not installing extra software will give choice to people what to install and what not to install. Dont you think it would be a good idea to leave it to people regardless of space or memory issues?

very very clean please
What I personally use from 2003 and 2005 ROMs is:
phone
contacts
notes
tasks
calender
SMS
activesync
camera
windows media
bluetooth for mono headset, gps receiver, audio over car radio (behaves like mono headset and mutes for phone or navigation)
connection manager
picture viewer
sometimes Word, wouldn't miss it
Never used:
games
download agent
file explorer
gprs on/off
internet explorer
internet sharing
modem link
search
Powerpoint
WM5torage
email
Very unwelcome: certificates
I do use all settings from the tabs Personal and System, from the connections settings I only use Bluetooth
But -although a contradiction to my wish for a very clean ROM- I do believe that not only I, but most of us do like some features like smartdial, TouchFlo, PDF, VERY LOUD ringtones and repeating alerts for notifications, missed calls, missed txt messages and so on. And localisation would be very welcome too.
Theoretically it would be best if either during the flash operation or at first boot after flashing it would be possible to make your own selections using some kind of wizard/script that would be intelligent enough to warn for example that the help files will no longer be available if you remove IE, that probably SMS will no longer be available if email program is not installed (I guess).

Ya but this is personal List of what you use, if developers starts building personal roms, it will be never ending story.
What I suggested is to build a clean rom, Hyman said the right thing. Build one with basic clean rom and the other with fully loaded and whoever wants which ever they can pick their choice.

Personally, I don't think so.
If one wouls want to install some software (common used, for example) he would install it in storage mem. And I could make it into rom instead.
If you don't want to use it - just don't use it
One day we would make a kitchen - and then all could make their own personal rom.
Personally, I can tell you that I'm going to release a clean and speed tweaked rom - once, and then I'm going to start releasing my personalized one.
It seems like we all get the answer now. One pure version and one with all modification that builder desires. No more discussion I guess

I wanted to give insight in how I use my Hima, it is by no means a wish list for a personalised ROM. (although volunteers are welcome to cook one for me ;-)
I hope others will give similar insight in their uses.
When I flashed to WM5 I thought I was using a clean ROM. It did come with Powerpoint and Exell, IMHO a waste of space. It didn't come with a working smartdial and it took me a full day to find a smartdial that works on one of my Hima's but not on another almost identical Hima. IMHO an awful waste of time unless you like to reinvent the wheel.
I've seen discussions in other threads about what they do/do not call a "clean" ROM. IMHO a clean ROM should offer as much basic functionality as possible. I believe Smartdial is one of these basic functions.
But every piece of software that you can find elsewhere, like Powerpoint and Exell should in my opinion be left out of the clean ROM, right?
A kitchen would be a good idea. A kitchen with a clear step by step manual that any noob can follow would be even nicer. Perhaps such kitchens were around before the ftp site closed, I'm only here regularly since a week or two.
I downloaded two files with the word kitchen in its name and unfortunately neither explained to me how to use it.

Hi,
I think most of you are aware of the Sprite Terminator software ( its sends you a SMS of New SIM # and GPS co-ordinates incase of SIM Change - infact its software for protection )..
Now the question is - Can we include this software in ROM ??? incase if you lost the set and the other person even HARD RESET the device.... so we still remain be able to get the info about the new SIM and GPS location ?
Any Idea....
So, I presume its not possible... And we can not include software in ROM ???
Sprite Terminator is not freeware, and you would likely be violating the EULA by bundling it with these ROMs.

What about the open source utility mJustice (Mobile Justice) instead?
Well I have a legal copy of SPRITE TERMINATOR and i want to include it into ROM for my TYTN II device just to make it 100% anti theft SO that the theif can't get rid of it even after the Hard Reset.... All i am asking that HOW SHOULD I PROCEED ?
Doesn't seem feasible...
Even when MJ could be cooked in ROM, settings (allowed SIM's, phone number to which messages should be sent, etc.), would be lost after a soft reset. I'd say the only possible solution would be cooking your own ROM (including all the settings, of course).
Just my 2 cents
Alex has this tutorial to convert a cab to a oem package...cook it in yourself.

I never tried it, so I probably can't help you much with this.

Hi everyone, here is a package for Sprite Terminator 1.2. Use with KaiserKitchen or RaphaelKitchen. Because some settings are personalised (your parnered phone numbers and password etc), you will need to edit 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu (file is inside attached st.zip) with your own settings. Anything in there with ****** you need to replace with your own personalised settings. To get your personalised settings, first install your purchased copy of Sprite Terminator and configure it.
Buy from www.spritesoftware.co.nz
Then open your registry and copy the config you found into 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu.
Preserve the format in 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu and just replace the **** entries with your own!
Don't forget to:
1. Ensure that there is blank line at the end of the text file
2. Wordwrap is OFF!
3. Save the file as unicode
4. Run the kitchen and cook!
This has been tried and tested!!

Unless you posted a package that requires a S/N to be entered prior to use, then I STRONGLY SUGGEST you take it down. This is considered warez, and the Mods will come down on you hard for it.

Good Point The Package Will be taken down, not because it has a serial, which it hasn't.
But because it is unclear at the moment, allows for the software to be redistributed and hosted on our servers.
The intention of the package is good but this has to be looked at more closely.
Thanks for your consideration.
Attached is the same package but without the resource files:
SGAgent.dll
SGStartup.exe
Sprite Terminator.exe
SpriteGuardResources.dll
SpriteTerminator.htm
This package should still explain how to add a Legal packaged to a ROM that is cooked for Private use in combination with the Legally owned License. (See Post# 8 )
going one step further ...
good idea guys, but i'd suggest not adding the uninstall information, nor adding a program shortcut - this might give you needed time to locate your device. i guess even the most stupid must get worried if it reads "Sprite Terminator" in programs list, why should we confuse people ;-)
greetz peet
the most you need to include terminator into rom is the registry file (rgu) settings and it would be a good idea to remove the shortcut made in startmenu folder, so a thief does not get warned before action has taken place
Remote Tracker is similar to Sprite Terminator but MUCH better. It has all kinds of features that Sprite Terminator does not (ftp, remote wipe, remote execution of mort script commands, etc). Best of all, it is freeware, and even has an OEM made for cooking into ROMS. Check it out:

Yes, Remote Tracker has its own thread, but this thread is about cooking Sprite Terminator into a ROM. There is ONE post in this thread about Remote Tracker, and all it is doing is informing people of its exististence, not discussing it.
This is NOT a duplicate.
Seems the new desire hd has this or a very similar feature
Totally worth bringing up a year old thread.
HI.
CommMgrPro is and one year old Hermes project. CommMgrPro is:
1) Automatic profile tool based on Location (GSM cell) and schedules.
2) Battery and Current draw monitory tool.
3) Communication manager.
4) -> It allow to upload cell changes to the server and if you have GPS It can take the coordenates so you can track your movements on the server using Google Maps. Apart of this we are creating automatically a big database matching CELL - OPERATOR - GPS coords.
So.....We are giving for free licenses to people interested on the project and interested on increasing the database. Simply install the program, use it to upload cells and if you ve uploaded cells you will get a free license. More info in www.commmgrpro.com
Thanks
It is interesting. However, I am concern about the privacy. Does the program upload ANYTHING else other than the Cells information?
How do you protect the information which user sends to your server? Can we delete the data completely off from your server?
EDIT:
I just checked your website and seems you allow user to login and check the cell info. However, the login and registration pages are not using SSL.
yes, thats truth.
User can choose which fields to be uploaded to the server (8 possible fields). But you can change the URL to test by yourself the data. At least users should upload Location (Cell/Lac), Phone operator, GPS coords and (owner_name and/or Device ID to identify the user who uploaded the data. Well, you can disable owner name and Device ID (imei) but we wont know who is upload that data). There are two main tables.
1) Cell-operator-gps. Thats the interesting table for CMP. No user data.
2) Location changes. Interesting for user to track movements on google maps. Data's rows are deleted each 72 hours but can be removed more frequently if users wants.
NO Https. Yes, we thought data was critial but We will put an special HTTPS port...

Well, currently It lets you upload 8 fields but I can more info if needed. This project is alive and I post new releases every two or three weeks.....

licenses
Are licenses still be given out for free? I already have a paid licence for bandswitch.
How does this compete with Navizon?
competition
Here's the differences. navizon uses a trial period program that supposedly gives you cash back for usage but the kicker is when the trial expires. CommMgrPro usage gets you a free license to the program itself since the database needs to be updated which is similar to navizon. What you're getting out of it is the difference.
Hi everyone,
i went to a 3store today to get a TYTN 2 on 3 network UK. I thought we could use the free skype minutes they offer on other handsets, but they said no, use the wifi!!!
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to connect to their skype service. Thanks
PS: Please include links to any software or recent methods you might know.
Hi, I'd also like to know if this possible. Have a 3 PAYG sim and get 30 days free skype when I pay for the internet add-on but cannot work out how to use the 3G network for my calls. Cheers
I think fring will do what you want.
The website says you can make skype calls.
www.fring.com "fring is based on a unique thin-client technology that for the first time enables true VoIP over 3G, GPRS and WiFi networks"
I installed it on my stock rom AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) but have not tested.
I hope that helps.

Thanks but i think for that you should have access to the internet. I can easily use the skype program instead. The problem is that skype is not the type of skype 3 network is using ( they use a java based program).
I read an article and someone had used the skype from a LG phones with 3 and Esmertec Jbed, but that was an Australian version. does anyone have a UK version?
This would rock if it is possible! Anyone know where to download a UK version?
I think we need to find someone with a non nokia phone from 3 UK, so he can give us the jar file. preferably LG
What do you think?
anyone from uk? or anyone knows a professional UK website? please
Anyone found this?
Can anyone with a TyTn II from the 3 network confirm if it comes with Planet 3 and Skype software installed?
I use Three...
Ah, you forgot to read the ultra-small fine print that states that the offer for *all* phones has expired and it's now only on *selected* handsets that seem to exclude the TyTN 2, also you can't get the sim-only and install the Three free Skype or Live Messenger on a non-Three phone+rom without some custom ROM hacking.
To make matters worse, if you get the £5 Unlimited Internet Access, the small print is that Three block Skype and Live Messenger so they can't be used (thought I think you can buy the £10 option that allows them?) - even if you want to pay for them outside the unlimited bundle. You can use IM+ BeejiveIM etc, to access Live Messenger though, and as far as I'm aware it seems to be included in the Unlimited access...
Oh, and if you want to access Planet3/My3 on your phone you can do so, but first you need to go into Advanced Config and change your "User Agent Custom Base" to "HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0" and then use the URL "http://mobile.three.co.uk/837_sc/index.do"
The Planet3/My3 will only work when accessing the page though the 3 connection and not WiFI or ActiveSync, but is acuttaly pritty nifty at checking you accound balance, tops ups, addons and such like.

Hi guys,
This is a solution for the Skype on Three network issue. I had placed it on another forum (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?p=385677) and one guy has reported it working, but apparently, it might not work with WM5, only with WM6. Please give it a whirl and let me know if it works for you.
Feedback is great for both me as well as others

Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum
(I have great and joyous news)
I believe that I have succeeded in getting the native Iskoot WM6 client for Skype to connect to the Three/3 service. I am still testing it and would appreciate your feedback.
Steps
a) Download and install the Iskoot client for Windows Mobile 6 . Try the direct link here (http://www.iskoot.com/pc_download/Wi...1.54_WMpro.CAB)
b) After installation, start the application, but DO NOT sign in. Instead exit it. The reason for doing this is to create the default registry entries for Iskoot.
c) Now start your favourite registry editor (I personally use Resco Registry Editor, but you should be able to use any. Please do not ask me how to use the registry editor. This is not the appropraite forum.)
d) Head for the following location in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE
e) Update all the following entries to the same value "http://mobile.three.co.uk/948" (do not include the "double quotes")
BackupHost
CallUrl
DefaultSkHost
Pushhost
f) Exit the registry editor of choice and start and log into Iskoot. This might take some time. It took me about five minutes.
It should now be configured to connect to the 3 Skype service. To cross-verify, check that the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE\Cal lNumber has the value +447838333894 (the 3 Skype dial-out number). It should be automatically added by the software.
As I have mentioned earlier, I am still testing this. However, with this implementation, it should not use your included minutes, but the free Skype allocation. Please test the same and let us all know if that is the case or you have noticed that your inclusive minutes have been used up.
I do not know how to modify cabs. But if somebody can rebuild the original Iskoot cab with these settings built-in, that would be great.
I have noticed that the sound quality on this is considerably better as compared to the Skype Java client.

Thanks for the information. I tried it on my Hermes and it worked great.
Unfortunately, when I tried the same thing on my Kaiser, all I ever get is "Currently unable to connect".
I can't see why there would be any difference between the two phones, but the Hermes never fails and the Kaiser never succeeds!
Any suggestions?

For Windows Mobile 6.1, MS .net Framework 3.5 is required, otherwise, "Currently unable to connect" error might appear
SkypeOut is officially supported (if not, very soon) by 3UK,
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/3skypephone/overseascalling/
with some restrictions (read the small print!)
I failed to get Skypein to work, however.
And Skypeout is a bit unstable at the moment, might be 3UK is upgrading their servers...

I think what some people did is to download a java version of the iskoot (for other non-WM phone) and decompiled the java class/jad file and find the URL string. I guess if you can somehow intercept the outgoing network traffic from a 3 customized iskoot client running on another phone (perhaps on a Symbian phone trying to communicate to the server via wifi, which wouldn't connect successfully I believe, but still let you), parse the network packet to find out its intended destination will do the trick too.

Thanks for the tip, but the problem is that the only phone with skype is the amoi 8512 (http://www.3skypephone.com/english/index.html have you ever seen it?) I do not have x-series with skype, but a specific offer wich works only with this phone. This phone does not have wifi, so I cannot sniff packet through network, and the iskoot client is not java, but specifically made for it (when I run it, the Java log does not apper), so I do not know how I could extract the url. The only thing I have done is to get its user agent to replace it on the Tytn II, the Amoi 8512 user agent is " Amoi 8512/R22.0 NF-Browser/3.3" without double quote, of course.

I was in your situation until a week ago when I found the 3 UK setting. It is so frustrating that I knew all it requires is a correct URL address yet I didn't know what it is!
What you may want to try is to first identify which X-series phone that 3 Italy support apart from the skypephone. And then change your Tytn II 's broswer agent string to one of those phone that use a JAVA iskoot client instead of a native client like Symbian client. Then use your phone browser to 3 ITA portal and try to download the iskoot (Skype) software. 3 ITA server should now think that you have a compatible phone so it will present you with the Java client. Once you go the .jar file, you can proceed to extract the URL from there...
I think people used SEW910I to get the 3 Australia client.
Try this for the Browser agent string:
SonyEricssonW910i/R1CA Browser/NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
I tried the above suggestion myself to try to get the URL from 3 UK's client, but I can't remember why I stopped, and then later I found that the URL is already know on some other forums on the Internet...
Good luck!

You are right, it is frustriating knowing I cannot use my Kaiser just because I do not know a simple url!!
I will have a look at this right now. Thanks for your help
Hi! Check this out, it comes from the LG Incite.. explains a ton of the variables involved with the GPSOne chipset.. part of it is passworded, i'll dig the password out in a bit
This lets you tweak pretty much any variable involved with the GPSOne chipset internal to qualcomm msm7xxx devices.
Copy the .dll and .exe to the device in any folder you like, and run the .exe (it's hidden so make sure you have show all files on)
http://rapidshare.com/files/192175960/GPSOneApp.rar
Dood...YOU ARE THE MAN!
In helping people out in the threads on GPS issues, I was JUST THINKING I WISH I HAD THIS! I'm running tools from from other chipset vendors with so-so NMEA parsers and no access to binary or advanced chipset commands.
Installing...
*EDIT: This little app has a lot of potential. I'll need sometime to test and play with this.

LOL I gotta try this...
EDIT:: Threw together a quick cab file to install this. It creates a shortcut in Start Menu\Programs\Tools
can't launch it (i yet know it is hidden, but i've made a custom shorcut pointing to the hidden .exe).
it gives an error:
the file gpsoneapp cannot be opened. either it is not signed with atrusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. if the problem persists, try reinstallling or restoring the file.
Did you copy the .dll to the same folder as the .exe or in your system path? (\Windows)
Thanks for the .cab dharvey4651 Although it's not HTC soft so i duno about the \HTC folder..

yes i did. dll and hidden exe is in its own folder. Custom made shortcut is rechecked for a typo. but everything seems fine.
edit 1
...now trying the cab.
edit 2
cab works! don't know why but now it works

Yeah I didn't know who really made it so I just guessed. Ha oh well the cab file works. I tested it personally
Aside from the dll I included, all dependancies are on windows system files, so unless your system is missing something..?
with the cab, it works.
thanks to all
So now that we have established that I'm the man, let's get that password
lol
I won't have time to check that out for a while, i'm working on porting other drivers etc. from lg incite to raphael.. whee
I almost feel dumb for spending the time to look... I guess I just like doing things the hard way
The password is all 0's

what part needs password? I played a little this morning, I wonder if we can disable the static nav like w/the sirf tools. Or can this tool only read stuff? Any luck yet Da_G?
it definitely writes, it doesn't write directly to NVRAM though, only through IOCTL's.. nothing to disable the 'static nav' like behavior though, that'll be in NVRAM. Gotta find the memory address for it so we can use RegisterEditor.. or get access to the radio ROM..
The passworded part(s) are the system settings menus.. the first "user setting" menu is tied to the LG's gpsid (it stores the registry entries in a different part) so you can't toggle the menu options there and have them take effect.. but it at least explains what the options do and you can find the corresponding registry entries in HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS.. but the system settings.. in particular UMTS PDE IP, port, url are persistant through a hard reset.. stored in MFG partition probably.. using this you can change the AGPS PDE server you're talking to.. i have good results with supl.nokia.com 66.35.236.25 port 7275..
Oh wow, this is a great little app. Thanks to Da_G and dharvey for getting this to us. I bet now we can get our GPS to funtion like its supposed to.

What do you mean DA-G? that if we use these settings we will get a working AGPS service in our devices in any part of the world and with any operator?
I won't say that (as I cannot test to verify)
But you will certainly have a better chance, as supl.nokia.com is open to worldwide use, whereas the default AT&T servers may not be.
It might be placebo, but when I have gpsoneapp open a gps connection, with my system settings set to what i mentioned above, it seems to be using the assistance servers (as I get a sub-30 sec fix on cold start)
I don't see the same behavior with htc gps tool or any other gps program, so i'm tempted to think gpsoneapp issues an assistance IOCTL that kicks things into gear..
But again, i'm gonna call placebo effect on that until I do many more tests

I have to concur with this. Completely. I am a US T-Mobile Customer and I'm using an AT&T Fuze. When I got the phone nothing worked(data, GPS, etc...). Since then it seems I've gotten everything figured out. Data works with a simple registry change. GPS works AWESOME now. I can now lock from a cold start(right after a reset) in less than 20 seconds(a minute in my bedroom with no visibility) and I'm a very happy man.
I just want to say thanks to everyone here at XDA!!! Especially Da_G for this post here. I used nokia's servers just now and changed my AGPS connection to T-Mobile Data and now my GPS is super fast!
Thanks again!!!

I'm also a USA T-Mobile customer (on an unbranded phone). Would you mind sharing what settings changes you made? I'd love to have the same GPS performance you're seeing.
If your changes are the same as what you put into the .cab you posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478199
then I've done that, and thanks already. Non-technical types like myself definitely appreciate the hard work of yourself and everyone else here.
