How Many Times Can I Flash my HTC? - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

I am sure like many of you, I am trying different ROMs from the various "chefs" in this forum. I must be on my 10th different ROM version by now (current ROM I am using is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462235, seems quite stable and fast).
My question is; "is there a limit to the number of times the HTC Touch HD can be flashed?", I know from previous devices there is a limit that ROM can be flashed (usually around 600), I just want to know the HTC Touch figure as I will stop playing around with ROMs so much if this figure is low enough.

I would think that there would be no limit as long as your careful and not screwing around with the radio's and SPL too much, for any device.

I don't know if 600 may be the limit, but i know that i've flashed more and more my polaris previous, and now my Blackstone into cooking it!

i think it is related to the question about flash rom life....as mlc memory chip may have lesser rewrite times.
but should be enough for thousands

i was told
100,000 times + so you have a long way to go yet
this has been covered many time in the diamond threads already

Thankyou
Thanks for all your responses, I will carry on flashng then!! Is good to see the roms being developed here, cant wait to see a Windows Mobile 7 Rom in 2009!! Screenshots seen so far look cool.

Benefit to Diff Roms?

Hey guys im new here, just have a few questions. So i've been doing some reading on flashing different roms to the TyTn. Whats the advantage of this? I just got my ATT Tilt a few weeks ago and dont wanna mess it up. Is there a performance benefit? Call quality? Different features. I hear about people loading the default htc rom. Is this better in any way than the one that ships with att? Thanks in advance.
Hi, Welcome aboard.
Actually, by my own (short) experience, using a cooked ROM, can be synonymous of performance benefit, increased call quality, different features, different aspect, functionality and a lot more… I recommend you to read some more things about in the specific thread of a ROM and compare it to the features of your shipped ROM…
But, firs of all, DO NOT FORGET TO READ:

cheers
Some of the new roms on here are such a big difference from the factory rom that you'll feel like you've got a new phone, others are closer to the stock roms. I know everyone is always a little wary the first couple times of flashing (and bricking) their $400 phone, but in reality it's actually pretty safe (just don't do anything dumb with your computer or phone while it's in the process). If you looked at the amount of flashing that goes on in this forum vs. the amount of cases where a phone gets actually gets bricked I'm sure the results would say that flashing is successful 99.9% of the time and the other 0.1% is most likely due to hardware or user error. Long story short, flash your phone to whatever Dutty's latest is and you won't be disappointed!
I guess ill have to give this a try. considering my phone locks up enough to annoy me and calls drop lol. oh and I can barely hear the person on the other side cuz the volume sounds just too low. Im coming from the blackbery curve to this, I never had a dropped call. hopefully a new rom will cure some of my troubles.

Please let me know which ROM you go with, and how you like it. I'm in a similar situation to you, I just bought mine. I had an HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125) before, and did a lot of flashing on that, but haven't tried on the Tilt since it came stock with WM6 anyway I didn't initially see the point. Now I'm starting to hear of a lot of people liking these ROMs better.
I'm running Dutty's latest and let me be the first to say it is great. I have no problems whatsoever. It's faster, easier to use plus with a ton of mods to make life easier all the way around.

Thanks! I'll have to try that out later on. It seems that one is the one everyone likes.
glad I could help.
Just to add another question, does anyone have any experience with different ROM "chefs?" I like Dutty's stuff so far, but I'm hearing things about a "Schaps" and some other chefs.
I'm not trying to pit them against each other (as I appreciate their contributions), but who's your favorite chef, and what is his/her best "dish?"

i like schaps but i dont like the purple. other than that, no problems with it.
just a personal preference
I cant wait to start messing around with this stuff. Hopefully i stop dropping calls lol as well as gain performance.
Schaps makes good ROMs. But does not have a HTC phone so the support is not there. With the Kaiser i suggest a vanilla (clean) ROM and install the programs that you like to storage card. There is plenty of memory in this phone to do that you need.
Would you consider Dutty's "lite" ROMs to be "vanilla?" Or are you talking about stock ROMS?
Now I'm noticing that there's "XDA Live." Anyone want to explain that to me? Are there certain blokes on this forum who make "official" ROMs for this site?
Confused.
I'm running XDA-Live and it is most like the stock ATT ROM- Kyphur pretty much took the stock ATT ROM and stripped it bare, (vanilla ROM). Graphically it is not at all like Schaps/Dutty's etc. They are using the stock HTC ROM as a base with the huge clock and the HTC Home layout and icons. I personally don't like the visual layout of those ROMs and think that clock is taking up WAY to much valuable real estate. With XDA-Live you have alot of free storage and you can add anything back into it that you want. Really customizable.

How about Custel or Q-Mobile or Sleuth or Alex? Maybe I'll just post a survey...
Is it possible to go back to the stock ATT ROM. Ive had it with dropping calls freezing. Time to flash this thing.
Stock ROM date
I love the ROMs being cooked up here on these forums.
However, before flashing any of the ROMs, I now believe a little research is important. For example, I bought a TyTn II just this week, and its stock ROM shows a date of Oct 29, 2007. Whereas the latest Dutty ROM from December 12 shows a base date of Aug 28, 2007. Thus important official changes from HTC could be lost by flashing to a ROM with an base date earlier than the officially released ROM.
Is there any place where ROM wizards post a ChangeLog in a sticky thread? There's all kinds of new ROM threads floating around, and it's hard for a noob to figure out which version of which ROM to use.
I actually loaded Dutty's latest rom, and my phone is extrememly stable right now. Havent dropped a call, calls have better quality and are louder. Phone moves much faster as well. VERY happy with my phone that i was about to use as a paperweight yesterday. lol.
What is Dutty's latest rom?? Never even heard of it lol link?

Regarding D3D drivers

Hi folks. Sorry to start a new thread but there's something bugging me around here. If by any chance you mods think this post is useless please close it and accept my apologies.
It's known to the most of you that the first version of drivers didn't worked on all roms. That issue forced the developers to do a workaround and slow down the process to get it working on those roms and created a new set of drivers that is not so fast as the first one.
So... i was thinking on this and decided to start a poll in order to give a hand to the developers in wich way they should follow. What do you prefer?
A Gold XDA based ROM with fastest drivers and less compatibility with all roms? (forcing all XDA members to flash their phones - not a big deal i presume)
Or a set of drivers compatible with most of the roms but with slower performance?
I know this is a controversial issue and the urge of the drivers working on our kaisers is huge but i think we would have more if we had a custom GOLD XDA rom
Just My 2 cents
Cheers,
Draco
kinda seems like a no-brainer honestly (unless you're petrified to flash or just despise 6.1). They will develop said drivers and you have a million chefs making a million roms from them...

I have no problems at all flashing my phone. I assume that there are some people who are not comfortable doing that but.... this is XDA. And if they are here that's because we all want to get the most out of our phones. And that is the tricky part of this poll. Developing the drivers based on one specific rom ( a ported one form Diamond or Raphael or an official kaiser one ) will be the more accurate and fastest way to get there.
Again... just my 2 cents
Draco
first:
flashing rom is a non-trivial task for a huge majority of users. leaving them out in the cold sounds like a very selfish position. If not for this reason, maybe avoiding a flood of "I bricked my tilt, help !!!!" threads may be a better one.
second:
Anyway, as i understood it what is slowing down FPS in the new version is the enabled VSync, which yields less tearing and improved smoothness (sounds like a shaver commercial, i'm afraid). I don't know what the refresh rate of a kaiser LCD is, but anything higher than 75fps (ie 15ms refresh rate) is a complete waste.

Not at all draxredd. Although i'm a junior member this is the second time i'm on XDA. I'm here for almost 7 years. Believe me, this is not a selfish position. As i was able to get some help to start flashing all of the members here on XDA will get that help too. The first time i flashed my first phone i was scared to death but... it's all the same. It only hurts the first time.
As i stated before this is just my opinion. The more roms the developers must include in the drivers development process, the more difficult it will be and much more time will be wasted.
Draco
haste... makes waste.
And if only one rom was to be designated as a target for the driver, it has to be the official HTC one, for two reasons:
- enabling driver support for a huge majority of users
- sticking it to HTC, deep.

What about performance issues? Doesn't that count as well?
Anyway.... i've started the poll just to check your opinion against wide compatibility among all the roms versus one specific rom fully optimized. Let's not get far from the main question
By the way... my kaiser has the official 6.1 rom from HTC... for now

Draco
I'm for Flashing myself, but the in the ideal world both sollutions would be best so no one comes off short. However the kind developers should be aiming at the most stable of the 2 first.
Looking at the driver progress it looks like theyre slowly getting there and getting the driver to work on the latest 6.1 roms
I voted for compatibility with the official ROM, simply because it's an identifiable standard that everyone recognises, and which everyone has on their phone by default. Cooked ROMs are great, but they're all individual, designed by individuals and used by individuals with the same tastes/needs - not one of them will suit everyone else, with or without drivers, whereas drivers released for the official ROM should work with pretty much everything else.
It's too early to say whether drivers developed for the standard ROM will always be slower than those for a cooked version, and I'm sure the very brilliant developer of those drivers will do their best to minimise any performance loss, assuming their is any in the longterm.
Vastly improved performance for the majority (and what that means for sales of the Touch Pro etc) has to take priority over a marginally improved performance in a niche ROM, aimed at an elite few, surely? At the end of the day it's entirely down to the developer what they do, irrespective of any poll here, but that's my take on it anyway.
Maybe i didn't expose correctly my idea.
There isn't any XDA Gold rom nor any kind of perfect ROM. The XDA Gold rom is just a concept and the first name that crossed my mind.
This is a big community and has some big brains around here. The exchange of knowledge bettween everyone is a plus and that opens a big wide world to explore.
So.... let's just imagine this scenario, ok?
The developers will pick a base rom. It really doesn't matter if it is a ported rom or a Official one. Preferably one that is fast and stable enough. The driver will be written over that rom. Users (those who want obviously) will test the rom for bugs and then chefs will try to cook out a 100% clean (note that by clean i mean a rom just as close as an official rom regarding to apps) fast and stable rom.
Of course this is just a crazy ideia but that i was thinking of. Create the first genuine XDA rom based on one device.
Note that there are many roms out there based on diferent releases. Make the drivers compatible with all of them will make the development process slow down and eventualy fail. That's the main reason i started this thread.
Now that the concept of the "XDA Gold rom" was properly explained (i hope) let's get on with the poll.

As long as "XDA Gold" = HTC Latest Official version I cant see a problem. It's when drivers are developed for anything other than the official ROM that we'll encounter problems. All the chefs can base their designs starting with official ROMs and work out from there. In the end it will depend on whether those developing the drivers want to satisfy the larger number using official ROMs or those using Custom ROMs where the chef has not saught to maintain driver compatibility. I've therefore not voted because it depends whether "XDA Gold" does in fact = HTC Latest Official version - we weren't told.
Are you even sure that theifference is that huge?
They might be able to provide two sets to cover all ends without much additional work.

IMO, The drivers only need to be compatible with an official based rom. It's up to the chefs to make the drivers work with their rom. Now, if the root of the compatibility issue can be resolved, I think things can progress forward at a faster rate.

FALSE. Two separate issues.
First, is dlls load differently between stock or hacked/cooked roms due to memory mangling by G'realoc going into cooked roms. An attempt to fix that was in the updated release.
Two, the screen update style in the first release was really just a hack that hijacked DDI's screen refresh routines. The 2nd release finally got the 'official' way to work so the hack was removed.
I voted faster...there isn't any other reason I came to XDA other than customizing.
Anyone who doesn't want a faster cellphone won't appreciate the new D3D drivers anyway.
There are may reasons the XDA Gold Rom (HTC Original 6.1) may be slower. Cooks reduce the software on the rom and use newer software versions, these may be faster than the previous ones.
Also this software is not from the Kaiser sometimes these may be causing the incompatiblity problems with the drivers.
The HTC original rom is slower to start than most cooked roms anyway, so way wouldn't the 3d drivers also run slower.
I decided not to vote, I think speed is a non issue as long as the drivers work on the HTC original rom, and are stable. You will always get rom's that perform faster, that's what cooks do round here.
I also don't think you would get a big jump in performance writing for just one rom, the hardware is the same in all the HTC Kaiser's handsets. Software can only make small difference to the performance of hardware if the drivers are written correctly.
personally i would love the drivers in a rom like dutty's diamond v1, but i think building them into a standard(ish) htc rom is best for the comunity; it sticks it to htc best as it shows u guys can do what they couldn't(or wouldn't), and makes flashing a rom feel safer to noobs.
and anyway we all know within hours of a rom with the drivers being released there will be dozens of cooked versions for all tastes with the drivers included too.

I'm getting my MDA Compact IV tomorrow...what to do?

Hi all,
Well after much deliberation and hard choices I decided to go for the T-Mobile Compact IV due to being the best deal. I am returning to WM after 18 months ditching my 02 XDA mini s
I have been scouring these forums for weeks now to see what I can do right away to my new phone...
I want to obviously get rid of the Tmobile branded touch flo 3d..
Can you please report what best SPL's, Radios and ROM's are best for this particular device (i understand some radios work better for different carries, so obviously would like to know from experience who has best performance for tmobile).
I have searched and searched the forums, and with it being a MDA compact the answers are less definative for whats best and I just want to make sure.
I am aware of mikes thread with the compact he got for his gf but would like info in addition to this.
Would you reccomend me opening up the box and then just wiping the phone right away without using the tmobile version
Thanks for your help
Granty
I have had a UK T-Mobile MDA IV for about a week now.
I used the SwiftBL 7.5 ROM with no difficulties. Upgraded the same day as I got the phone after it had charged a bit - the T-Mobile ROM really didn't have much going for it. Didn't try the other ROMs though. No problems installing the hard SPL (jockyw2001's HardSPL 1.24), it just worked. I did briefly consider sticking with the T-Mobile ROM with a bit of debranding, but it really is awful and I don't regret upgrading now!
Upgraded the radio to v1.00.25.05 as recommended in the SwiftBL thread and it worked well. Later upgraded radio to v1.00.25.BS14 and I think it works better, but that's a bit subjective - I haven't been running benchmarks and formal tests! Pretty easy to downgrade if you have to though.
I think "what's best" is pretty subjective. From the few days I've been in this forum it seems SwiftBL is like a slightly tweaked HTC ROM with some useful tools on it, and Dutty's is more of a hardcore tweaked ROM built for speed, but I might be wrong on that
all i can reccomend is Dutty's lite (+, of course, all what you prefer, all tweaks and other "must have")
radio? .05, .07, .08, .14 - it depends on many factors (country, city, operator etc) so we cannot surely say "this radio is THE BEST!
one is as sure as ****: debranding is necessity, radio rom .03 is the worst, T-Mobile ROM is also one piece of ****
Thanks for both of your replies. I have downloaded SwiftBL 7.5 while I was waiting for response, seemed one to go for. Download HardSPL - Diamond - Olinex- Hope thats the one to go for and also downloaded the radio .08 and BS14, will probs bang BS14 on and give that a go. Will let ya know my experiences tomorrow!

I too have had my mdac4 for a week or so. I tried the Swift rom and it was great to start with but then I lost all sound, although I did install other stuff afterwards which may have been to blame too. I ended up installing the paonosha rom and it has been very good so far, very quick and no gps lag
I'm using 08 radio
Well its here, TMobiles ROM is awful. If i didnt know about this site i'd have sent it back right away, so slow and unresponsive.
Gutted mobile.co.uk announced xperia today but oh well what can you do?
At least I got a decent deal on mine on a 12 month contract I suppose as opposed to an 18 month
I wouldn't go with the xperia even if the price is the same as diamond, touch pro would be the more reasonable choice to go.
had my MDA C4 for just over a month now and i can say a few things:
* I'm using Dutty's rom which is nice and stable and has all the default apps i need. Do not stay on the stock rom unless you have a death wish
* In terms of radio's, i'm on .08 at the moment but i'm just about to switch back as i can't seem to get a GPS lock on and i need it for TomTom. I was on .05 radio before and this was working perfect, and the battery life was also around the same as this .08
* If you have a later ROM version than 1.37 then please try and make a backup, i haven't come across any so far and it would be nice to have one if i have to revert back at some point!
* Play around. There is most likely going to be more than one ROM that will suit your needs, so it's all about what you really want from it down to the skins they have tbh. Most of the ROM's at the moment seem to have pretty much the same speeds and tweaks, and the only difference being that they customize it (whether it be custom manilla icons, start menu, etc).
That's my two cents

As someone who is in a very similar position to Addictedddd, I echo his words of playing around.
I agree that most ROMs are similar with respect to tweaks, etc. Personally, I'm using Version 7.0 of SwiftBLs ROM. I know that this is not the latest (I think I posted somewhere recently that "newest is not necessarily the best") but it's the one that I most prefer - The one that feels right, if you like..
I've tried countless others but I always keep coming back to version 7.0..
I'm also running the 1.00.25.BS14 Radio on mine. Again, the 05 seemed OK, the 08 didn't change much but I pesonally noted a slight increase in signal with the BS14 so I stuck with it.
You need to play around with the Diamond and experiment with different programs and ROMs. Only this way will you find out what is best for you.
Finally, Don't forget to read. The Wiki has a great introduction for flashing. I've added a link below:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Diamond
Read it - I'd hate to see a post from you tomorrow saying "Help - I've Bricked it!!"
Take care and happy experimenting..
Right oh my findings..
Tmobile ROM...super slow, would have gone back if I didnt know how to change.
After much confusion of the guide saying there was a 1.40 SPL that wasnt developers I found out it was actually 1.30....
I tried installing BS14 radio with 1.30 but kept erroring at 0% (i wasnt even sure the SPL was installed right as it only took literally a second to update, even though bootloader confirmed it)
So after reading a few more peoples reports I went to HardSPL 1.40 developers (just make sure I don't do any dodgey roms) and installed the BS14 radio no problem, again the SPL updated quick taking only a second, then about a minute for the radio.
Installed swiftblade 7.5 which installed very quickly too, about 2 or 3 minutes, so much quicker than the Tmobile ROM.
Not sure how GPS lock is, havent got any sat nav software on, tried google maps which was instant but I take it that is using A-GPS.
Signal strength is not very good, 1 bar, might be my area, all other phones around here have full signal though so may just be tmobile. Will trial it for a bit but if it causes problems try 08 or 05.
I too have had my Compact IV for about a month now, also returning to WM after a stint with a Nokia N95 8Gb (Glad to be back!!). I did manage to refrain from flashing the ROM until today. I didn't have any problems with the T-Mobile ROM but have been reading the forums here and at Modaco and was interested to see if there really was that much of an improvement to be had. I have gone with TLR's Diamond ROM 3 and all i can say is wow!!, its only been a few hours so far but the entire phone is much slicker and quicker, there really is a big difference. I really must say thanks to Jockyw2001 and TheLoanRanger for their excellent work, and to everyone at XDA Developers and Modaco for sharing their experiences. I may well go on to try a few other ROM's but for now im glad to have taken the first step.

(Scared of bricking my new Juwel) ;-)

Well, the official ROM is usually somewhat slower and could have some 'problems' diamond users experience. Although sometimes an official update is available which could solve some stuff.
The main advantage of using a custom rom is that it's pre-tweaked. Has some tweaks you cannot get unless you flash a new ROM (so the tweaks are in the ROM itself). Take a different pagepool for example. Try and do a search about what that it.
Usually a new ROM also combines a set of the newest software from HTC. So the newest keyboard app from another HTC update, the new TouchFlo from somewhere else. And that combined gives you the latest software and tweaks.
Also, when you dont like touchflo 3d for example, there are custom roms that have removed that. And perhaps remove all other 'extra' software as well. Those are the so called 'light' roms. Those give you max memory and max speed (if possible) at the cost of less applications running thus removing certain functions. You can then add those functions as you please. So you don't end up with a phone that has stuff for 20 things, while you would only need 8 or something (just a random example).
In the case of the TouchFlo3D, if you dont like that and want something else as your today screen you want to get rid of it to free up some memory!
In all my experience with a lot of HTC phones, the 'best' roms were always custom ones. But it's getting harder and harder to see what's good and what's not. As you have probably seen already there are a lot of roms out there for the Diamond. I can only suggest you go and read what the differences seem to be between the roms.
Also read the comments on the roms and try to get some understanding of the changes made to the different versions.
Try to remember though (and this is always the nasty part) you can remove your warranty by flashing another ROM. Also (with the diamond in rare cases) you could 'brick' your phone. Which is no more than a failed update which makes your device unusable. I must say, with the Diamond that almost seems impossible when you just flash normal custom roms. But the 'risk' is always there in some way.
Read about the correct hard spl when you want to flash (need that one before you can flash a new rom, the hard spl unlocks your phone for custom roms). That would be the first step anyway.
And well, after all this info which isn't a lot at all (but it is!) and might or might not help you, the ROM I use is: Duttys V3.6b Final, the 12mb pagepool version.
You can find it here.
Read the howto flash part! It's in the second post all the way below the changelogs.
Obviously everyone has their favourite rom they use, and they all say theirs is the best. So you should really find that out yourself.
In every rom thread you will find things like 'I tried a lot of roms, but yours is the best!'. Try em out yourself and let you be the judge of that. Just take some time to try them out and see what you think is important in a ROM.
Thanks... answered my questions
Thanks alot for your answers it made it all clear for me now... !!
Now i only have to wait for my diamond ... and i have to say this Forum makes the Diamond even more usefull and valuable...
Thanks again...
Is there a preferred custom ROM amongst users here? BTW, which tweak program are you referring to? I've seen quite a few on here? Thanks.
i would def load the "background on all tab pages" tweak...this allows you to have your Home wallpaper on all the other tab pages.

That's what I've been doing for the past couple of hours lol. Some of these threads are HUGE. I still cannot decide which one to try. Looking at the radio bits too. Also curious about landscape keyboard. From what I understand...keyboard is only available in portrait mode but there are some fixes for that?

Is that part of that Advanced Config application?
"What Custom Rom is the best" and "What tweaks should I use" are both very subjective so we don't allow them for this reason.
Best recommendation I (or anyone) can give is to read about the things you think you want to use and ask for clarification in those threads.

Question from a noob.

Hi all, I have had a search around and cant find the answer to my question. I expect to get flamed, but here goes.
Having access to all the great roms here, I still dont know which to go for. Many have asked the same thing, but the answer is always the same try them out for yourself. I appreciate the hard work that goes into cooking the roms (or maybe I dont as I would never attempt it) and no one wants to say which is better, but to those of us who are either noobs or just want an improved kaiser the time involved trying them all out can be prohibitive.
I would love to have a new rom that does what I want and then to be able to donate to the chef for the work they put in to developing it. I use my phone so much I really cant be bothered saving data/programs and then re-stalling them until I find a rom that suits. I appreciate the problems that everyones needs are different, but are they so different? Full of features, reliable, fast as poss and looks good, this may describe most roms but I dont know without trying them all or be told which people prefer. If a chef knows that most people dont want a particular feature but definately want another they can see by the downloads which rom is the most popular. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (coupled with innovation).
I have an unlocked orange UK, WM6, rom 1.81.61.2 WWE (dated 09/20/07), Radio 1.27.14.32, but really dont know what would be the best feature rich, fast, best looking, impressive rom.
I stand ready to be charred
Just randomly install one..
That is your answer.
There is no straight jacket answer because truth is like a diamond. did you get it my friend..
So if I happen to install one that Im not happy with, I may think "oh is that the best on offer, I wont bother again". Im afraid it seems like everyone has to re-invent the wheel in trying a rom out.
Have you installed a rom and then thought wow what a load of rubbish? If people dont know then more will have the same experience, just trying to avoid that. Dare I say that the cooking of roms is not my main interest, but appreciate that it is to others and also appreciate the work that goes into them. Am I being selfish in wanting something that is stable with as I said lots of features etc? Probably, but the same can be said about anything if your not an expert.
Im not trying to be a pain just want some advice to save a lot of time and messing about
Can't give you more info than others as it's all a flash try if don't like flash something different.
If don't have the time to do this the best bet is just to stay stock.
We all install ROMs once in a while don't find it fits our needs yet the one thing we know is that it takes the flasher about 10mins to flash then an hour to play compared to the average ROM taking days to build with having to flash @ every change...
Hey
No need to fear as I was also the same like you when I joined XDA, it is overwhelming seeing the number of custom ROMS out there as well as the extreme amount of information on XDA itself. But after a while you get used to it and draw a simple conclusion, you simply cannot absorb it ALL unless you dedicate your entire life to it.
However you can slowly learn the ropes about the ROMS and proceed.
To answer your question: at the moment it seems like the WM 6.5 roms are the best looking, most feature rich and quite quick to boot, however to me they seem to a bit more unstable and open to flaws than the WM 6.1 roms which have the benefit of being cooked for longer and thus have had the number for bugs reduced. I have used two 6.5 ROMs and have not been able to get them to work with complete functionality I require. So I've decided to wait a while.
So to start of with you should probably find one of the popular WM 6.1 roms (just sort the rom forum by views or replies and you're bound to see whats popular) and flash that to your phone. I am currently using Sakajati's Hyperdragon IV and it is awesome and stable, but you can look around as there is no guarantee that that will work as excellently for you as it has for me. However by using the 6.1 rom I have learnt a fair bit also with the help of the XDA forums and search function. I am now competent enough to solve issues that arise from newer buggier roms etc.
So yeah as the previous guys have mentioned, its trial and error to a certain extent. What works for me may not work for you and it is best to start of with something a bit more stable in favour of features etc. In addition once you find out about the best applications to enhance the phone and use it in conjunction with the cooked ROMs they become even better. I for example am using the 6.1 ROM with SPB Mobile shell which really makes the phone IMHO so awesome that I don't feel the need to move over to a 6.5 rom as everything on my phone works and it provides me with the perfect and efficient functionality that I require.
In the end if you can't land on a custom ROM to your liking, don't give up there might be one out there that works, it just takes patience and a bit of work.
Thanks for the replies, fishzn appreciate the advice, tried looking for the hyperdragon rom but appears to have been taken off. Not sure where to get it from? Tried the authors site, but log in problems seem to be affecting many there.
Thanks again.
Here is the thread on sakajati's forums with the download links for the ROM, you need to register on that forum to download. Don't know about the login problems though, my account is logged in with no issues really. Anyway YGPM
i have gone back to a 6.1 rom having tried several 6.1s before then a few 6.5s.
i found the 6.1 more reliable and stable (never got messages working properly on 6.5). i avoid the lite/fast ones also now as i didnt really notice any speed increase but did notice that i was forever looking for cabs to add back in what was missing. i have a 8gb card loaded with apps and expect them all to work.
just give one a go. you get a feel pretty quick for how it runs you own stuff.
use a good backup program (i use spb backup) and keep a full copy (or 2) on a pc of your sd card.
WARNING: changing roms is very addictive, it will take away your free time (but it is fun)
Stop being a little girl (unless you are one) and jump in..
Each rom has a thread and in that thread people talk about it. Read or jump in head first, either way you could have found the rom of your dreams by now..
