Question about using IE6 - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

How are people using this effectively? It is SO zoomed out for me that i can't click any links or barely read it and the scroll wheel is not working for me. I'm new on the fuze and still getting acclimated. what are others using to browse?

Up until the Fuze, I was using the latest beta of Iris. For some reason, it crashes hard on VGA devices.

I have the same problem. I can't read anything with IE6. I with there is a way to fix that, because its really annoying.

Well, this post shows how to disable PIE6 with a registry change. I like the older PIE, too. It ain't pretty, but it works well, particularly with message boards. I really wish that PIE6 allowed you to set it to a one column view.
Now, I've just got to figure out how to implement the registry changes. I've tooled around with Total Commander, but don't really have a clue what to do, or where to look.

Always using Opera Mini.
Extremely fast, and works just great!
I never use Opera Mobile, or IE6. (OK, just IE6 to download Opera Mini)

Why Opera?

I have Opera on my Kaiser. 26 days to go for free.
But I have problems being motivated to buy the version.
Anybody an opinion?
Have no problems with IE till now. But maybe I am missing some important features.
Huib
Have you tried "Opera Mini" ?
If not, try it, you will never go back to IE
It is super fast, very compact, and works, also with that neat zoom/unzoom!.
Again, the browsing and rendering speed of Opera Mini is superb.
Drag and scroll.
Highlight and copy text
Save images
Successfully renders web pages more frequently than does the IE - IMHO

Try scrolling down a long page with PIE and you will know why Opera Mini is better. PIE almost grinds to a halt after the first screen or two has scrolled up.
EDIT: Update to above entry. PIE now has a fix for scrolling issue - downloadable here: IE Slow Scroll Fix for Kaiser_Tilt.cab

Gotcha!
Tested them both with a longer page and the difference is clear.
Thanks for your input.

Hi!
can Opera-mini and other apps be run from the memory card satisfactorily?
i.e are they slower?
I wonder if my other applications such as Resco Explorer 2007 and Code Wallter can be run from the card too?
Ofiaich
Don't take what I say as gospel but when I had Opera installed on the SD card it didn't function completely correct - like didn't follow email links correctly along with a couple of other glitches etc.
Likewise I have always been a bit hesitant to install things that operate so cloely with the OS, like Resco Explorer, to the card. They have always seemd to work much better on the main memory. Just my opinion.
Thus I have Opera mini and Resco Explorer installed on the main memory while just about everything else I have on the SD card.
jcrompton!
Thanks very much! Sounds good to me, and I have space in the main memory!
I will get on and download Opera mini !

Opera Can Handle Regular Youtube!
Please Dont quote me on this, but if i am correct, Opera (paid version, not mini) can render many types of complicated flash websites including Youtube(Yes the regular one not youtube mobile). I say this because i tested it for myself, a while ago on my mda vario or vario 2 (sorry cant remember). What seemed to be a slight problem though was, it ran out of memory frequently (ram) and as such the program would not start if other applications were running in the background.
Opera users on WM6, your reviews and thoughts on this are much appreciated!

OK - so I just figured out how to get Opera Mini work via the Java app under programs -- have you been able to get email links and other http links to automatically be opened by Opera Mini - I made some registry changes to get Opera Mobile to be the default browser, can you get Opera Mini to do that ? (wasn't sure since it is buried as a Java program)

Well you asked for it. I am going to have to quote you. Youtube does not work on my 8925 in Opera, neither the moble specific version (says media file type not supported) nor the full youtube site. Ugh.
I agree that you wouldn't really want to use Opera Mini on the Kaiser....Opera Mobile though is the bomb! I just wish it was free like the Mini version is, but it's good enough to pay for anyway. PIE just is not very good at rendering most webpages.
opera is very good browser but the built in pie some times show websites better than opera example http:\\www.xda-developers.com

I just hit YouTube with Opera on mine and any 'watch now' links open the video for streaming in WMP. Is that normal?

Opera 9.5 beta is out

Opera mobile 9.5 beta is out
here is a link
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5OBYGJV8
I'm installing it right now. hope everything goes well!
looking good here - cheers
Can this version be uninstalled? Are the icons VGA icons (are they huge)?
use the skin pack supplied. Working OK here, a bit slow and seems to use lots of ram but showing promising signs. I would say the best browser so far, but I have only been testing for a few minutes.
Youtube crashed it out though, perhaps the flash...
for QVGA devices......
for QVGA, there is a skin included in the zip file, don't extract just copy and paste the file in /device/Application Data/Opera9/skin
then start up opera and everything should be good to go.
got the link from "camera" on pda4x
Seriously let's post it 6 times in all different forums (use the search before posting?)
This is not 9.5 beta, it's actually 9.331 . Here's a link to a download that has the QVGA skin embedded in the installer, and you can uninstall this cab, unlike the download linked in opening post.
http://rapidshare.com/files/9192518...lly_9.33__patched_uninstallable_qvga.cab.html
Just install the CAB and you're done.
its too buggy to use...i cant even get to a website, as soon as i type in a URL, and press enter, it just closes and doesnt load...
Same here! How do I get it to work?
guesss we gotta wait until the real beta.
http://rapidshare.com/files/91884767/Opera_Mobile_9.5_Beta_standard_skin__Patch_for_QVGA_.zip
believe this is the actual 9.5 beta
once i had disabled the cube and uninstalled flash its been great. using the pen is better though but with finger its still really good.
be sure to replace the standardskin.zip file under the directory application data/opera9/skin with the one included in the download
I just downloaded the second file Chainfire posted. It works great. I really like it.. Yes it has some slow loading and some bugs but this is a Beta after all. In my opinion, this is very promising.

its 9.33
I've tried and compared a lot of these files... there is NO 9.5 right now ('public'). First file compare, if different, check User-Agent string.
thx for 9.33 link Chainfire,
I've been avoiding Opera but this looks promising even if it isn't 9.5.
Hi everybody,
I'm using it now and for those with QVGA screen like my Kasier here, please use the supplied skin so that you won't be seeing a huge Icon.
Replying to this forum using it now. Great software and connection is OK using my Edge network. I don't have 3G yet.
Regards,
morisa
Okay, just got to work and even for 9.33 version, it is very impressive. I used NetFront, which was decent, but this is definetly something to rub in the iphone users face haha...so the link chainfire posted, is also 9.33?
This browser is pretty great!!! I've been using the new NetFront 3.5 and I love it, but I really like the UI of this browser. This browser doesn't scroll as smoothly as Netfront, but overall its clean and quick.

Opera Mini vs Opera Beta

for those of you who have tried the new Opera 9.33 beta or the Opera 9.5, do you think its better then the Opera Mini?
For those of you who haven't tried it the link is right here
HTML:

and I got a questions about this aswell. i want to install the Opera beta on my phone and i'm currently running Open Touch v3.0 Slimeline, is there a way were i can replace the Opera Mini so i wont have to Opera's on my phone and have it take up even more space?
thanks in advance
I installed the beta but didn't rly like it so i stayed with Mini, i'm running slimline as well
as for deleting the mini it barely takes any space, plus its build in the rom so i dont know if its deletable

yeah, the regular opera sucks!!! i had it before. opera mini like downloads the webpage through operas servers or something, while the standard opera is a standalone which is just as slow as IE. only advantage is that it dosent have to run in java.

The new version is nothing like the 8.XX version. It's supposed to be a billion times better. I haven't tried it, yet, though.
the official new yes i'm sure i'd love it, but for some reason this early beta release is annoying me rly bad
The UI is very nice... you can just read the thread to see the opinions if you really want some more depth. It's a tad sluggish and kinda buggy, but I can't wait to see what the release version will look like--it looks pretty amazing right now.
The icons are pretty huge, I have a feeling that will get changed, though, because it seems like a lot of people don't like that...

No it doesn't.
Opera Mobile is a full browser which doesn't use or require a transcoder/proxy.
I would use both, but be aware that it's a beta.
Try the the new Opera Mobile to figure it yourself.
I'll recommend to make a backup of your device before, as you should always if you test beta software
The bad thing is that the Beta installs itself directly into the \Windows folder and wastes like 9MB.

Wow... that's a big chunk of space... maybe if it was something freeware and cookable (at least legally cookable...) we could replace pocket IE with it...
I installed it last night on my spare wing and didn't care too much for this alpha release. Why?
1) text sections dont fit to screen like Opera Mini, so scrolling is involved
2) very buggy right now, especially the UI components and menus
3) felt sluggish compared to Opera Mini
4) no flash support
5) too friggin fat! as stated its about 9 megs installed
6)The version I dl'd didn't have an uninstall option. I manually deleted all the Opera9 folders and .exe to regain space.
I do have to say I like where they're going with this browser, scrolling is very fast and smooth. I for one will be waiting for this to hit beta and hope all the minor annoyances are cleared up. Unfortunately I don't see it being the iPhone safari killer people are touting it as unless somehow flash works it's way in, and I can finally have my Pandora on the road =)

I gave this version a shot and really like it. Zooming in and out works really well, scrolling is very smooth, it automatically goes to full screen and hides menus during/after loading a page(except on arrow in the corner to bring it back up). User interface is excellent in my opinion. Only complaint I have for it is that text sections don't fit to screen like Opera Mini.

Making Skyfire the Default Internet App

Hi Guys I was wondering if theres a way to make skyfire the app that opens when you click the internet button in TF3D. Now that it actually works on VGA devices I like using it over opera. Is there any way to do this?
The first time you fire up Skyfire it should ask you if you want it to be default. If you happend to have missed that or it did not come up you can do it manually by Opening Skyfire tapping menu>setting>then checking the box next to "Set Skyfire as Default Browser".
This should work. Make sure you dont have opera installed. If you do opera wont work any longer. When it asks to make opera the fefault browser say NO or your email links will not open anymore. Please post results.

Go to settings/installed programs and uninstall it. If its cooked in wont be so easy. On the stock rom and several cooked roms its cab installed during customization and easy to get rid of.
Is that really a good idea.. Skyfire kills the battery quicker than anything else that ive tried.
I did make it the default browser but that didnt work. I'll try that downloadable fix in a bit. To the person talking about battery life, i didnt really notice that. I would actually be extremely surprised if skyfire used more battery than opera, since skyfire does all the pre-rendering on their servers and not on your phone, making your processor work alot less. did you actually do a true comparison? meaning if you were watching hulu on skyfire and just browsing websites on opera it is probably going to skew the results.

I have to agree tha skyfire is harder on the battery. However, i find it a far more superior browser. Ill gladly trade the battery for it.
Is there anyway to undo this and get opera back as default without having to reinstall the rom? Or Opera Mobile 9.5 beta for that matter.

Which Opera version?

There are so many Opera versions out there...
The one I have been using 15316. Before that I was using some other version, I can't remember which.
Anyway, I am tired of this flipping the screen upside down everytime I exit it (in landscape).
Which is the best version to use on a Tilt?

Where can I get it? What is the build number?
Just a tip, build 15233 ripped from the Omnia worked very well in the short time I used it. There was no screen flipping problem, and it was very stable. It also supported zooming by sliding your finger on the side of the screen. I think the real reason I stopped using it was there was some kind of text reflow issue when you zoomed it though. It has no widgets, although it installs a shortcut to the non-existent widgets, so you need to delete it.
However, I currently use NFSFan's build 15316, which I like due to its 10 tab support and speed. However, as a trade off, it suffers from the screen flipping problem if you minimize it or touch the taskbar while using it. And I definitely agree with TelloMan about the widgets, they just waste space and annoy me. Try to keep looking around XDA, especially in Development and Hacking (where I found many opera builds).
Dave
Yeah, NSFan's 15316 is the one I'm using now. The screen flipping is driving me crazy.
It's hard to believe there isn't one decent browser for Windows Mobile. Anyone know what's going on with that Firefox Mobile?
you're referring to "Minimo" by Mozilla. I haven't seen or heard much lately from them. There's some opera builds are fairly close to perfection depending on what irritates you the least amount. Too bad none of them has flash working perfectly yet. If I had to choose 2 browsers for WM, it would be netfront and opera mobile
well... call me heretic, but imho for casual browsing and forums the best one is opera mini and if I need to use my bank's web page or anything more complicated iexplorer is reliable enough. additionally, I have skyfire installed on my memcard just to make sure that I can browse whatever I want.
the answer? opera mini and skyfire in my opinion. I am tired of o.mobile bugs and new builds every few days/weeks.
Actually, I think he is referring to Fennec, not minimo. Minimo was horrible and requires very high specs, while Fennec, which is still in alpha/early beta, is very unstable yet very promising. It will be quite a while before it will be really usable. I would just stick to opera mobile for now. Skyfire works well, but isn't 100% stable. Opera mini is fast, but not full featured.
As I said, Fennec is very promising, but it is extremely unstable and VGA only for now.

I agree about Mini i use it for pretty much everything then for sensitive info use Mobile.

I used to get annoyed by the text flipping, but Manila2D always corrects the screen back to portrait when you hit the homescreen. I've been using that as my bandaid.

It isn't very fast, but compared to IE and the first Minimo, this actually WORKS. I can switch from mobile versions to desktop versions, zoom and scroll, and it uses my IE favorites.
